"Fun and easy to pick up.", Got this for my wife's birthday (who loves her DS) and she really likes it. So loves to decorate the Sims house, dress them and to all the little side missions. I chose this over Sims 2 for just those features and I think as far as my wife is concerned - I made the right choice.

I too found it fun, though a little simplistic. I play a lot of Xbox 360 and the games I play are usually NOTHING like this. But it's still fun if I'm just sitting in bed or want something to do on a long trip.

Definitely recommended.

"My 7 year old son loves it!", I have not played it, but my young son really seems to enjoy it. He says it is like Animal Crossing without all of the rude, insulting characters. He has been able to customize his own character and engage in many tasks in his make-believe town (such as planting flowers, making necklaces, catching fish, etc.) all in an effort to improve the happiness of the townsfolk. He would play it all day if I didn't encourage him to do other things. In my opinion this game is superior to Animal Crossing simply because he is not upset by rude comments from some of the characters as he was with Animal Crossing, which he now refuses to play. The best part is, he seems to enjoy this game very much and he does not get frustrated with it as he does with more challenging games.

"MyReview of MySims", I bought mySims, even after reading the reviews, because I enjoy just about any Sims game I've ever played. I own Sims 2 for the SP, SimCity for the computer and SNES, and I just bought Sims 2: Castaway and SimCity for the DS.

I throughly enjoy the game. It may not be as advanced as other Sims games but it still has a place. I enjoy easy mind-numbing games when I want to relax and this is definately one. I find the way the Sims look adorable. They're cute, there's just no arguing about it.

The four mini-games I've unlocked so far (racketball, parasailing, fishing, making leis) are all fairly good. I have the most problems with racketball, but I think that is less about the controls then the fact that your playing it on a small screen.

Both of my kids have tried it. My 9 year old had no problems with it, but my 6 year old had a few mostly because he is a beginning reader. The only thing I would caution a person on who is buying this is too make sure your buying it for a child who can read.

Overall, if you enjoy other Sims games I would reccommend this game.

"Is My Sims for you? (by Laura)", My Sims can be a fun game. Whether or not it's for you will depend on quite a few things, however. Anyone who doesn't like Animal Crossing had better leave now, because this game is practically the spitting image of it (save for the facts that it's simpler, and you're communicating with humanish sims instead of animals). Here are the cons and pros; read them carefully before you decide on this purchase.


Cons:

1. I can see where the game has been geared for little kids. It's pretty basic and quite easy. If you're looking for a challenge that will make you pull your hair out, then I don't see you enjoying this game.

2. Can be repetitious. You may find one minigame you're good at, and play it over and over when you need money. That can be annoying. Also, you're normally stuck talking to tourists and moody shop owners, and sometimes they're aggravating.

3. The fishing system is flawed. The instructions teach you the controls, but nothing else. If you move the float, it plays music and I don't know why, or even how you use it; simply because it doesn't explain that part in the directions. If you are lucky enough to get a fish interested, then you still probably won't catch one. I tap on the float like mad trying to pull the fish up; but it usually takes too long, and I come up short. Bottom line is, Animal Crossing's fishing system is much better developed; and, unfortunately, fishing is a small part of My Sims.

4. I don't think the sim's speech was fully translated, but I'm not sure. After you finish cheering up people with the seven expressions (laugh, converse, listen, get angry, cry, encourage, and comfort) they talk in a language you can't understand for a short while. Maybe it's just muttering and meant to be cute; but if it's untranslated Japanese, it shows developers didn't work very hard on the game. Personally, I like understanding everything people say, so this can be a bummer; even though it's cute to watch the sims converse.

5. Some of the minigames don't function well, but that could just be my opinion. I can't do anything with raquetball, because it seems that the controls are flawed there too; as you can't manipulate the ball like you should.


Pros:

1. The game's design is pretty good. It's pretty, and you can customize your character at the game's start. It's not a huge selection, but you can buy more clothes and furniture. Overall, it's just pretty; not exceptional, but pretty.

2. Most of the mini games are entertaining. I enjoy making leis and I make a lot of money off of them. Paragliding is fun, Tic Tac Trump is fun, and even Racquetball is fun if you can withstand the control flaws.

3. Most of the sims are lovable characters. There's only one sim out of about twenty who I loathe. In Animal Crossing, the neighbors are easier to hate than to love...

4. It's addictive... Maybe it's too simple, and the principles aren't completely in place; but the game manages to hold my attention for a while each time I play. It's fun to charm the tourists if they take to you kindly.

5. The storage systems are better. In Animal Crossing, one of the things I despised was that there were so many clothes that looked good on me; but finding room for them was murder. Same goes with furniture, stationary, wallpaper, carpeting, and even knicknacks you carry around with you all of the time. In this game, you can buy as much stuff as you want, without crowding your house. There's still a limit on how many pieces of furniture you can put in your room, but it's a pretty lenient limit. You have so many pockets on your person, that even the biggest pack rats can travel comfortably. If you run out of space on your person, there's even more room in you're chests!


I think that's all I have to say. This game has many pleasant surprises that I haven't even touched on this review; but these are the main points in a nutshell. If you want something that will entertain the younger, and relax the older, this game is for you. The bottom line, however, is that this game is a lot like that Chinese cake that the chef eventually makes; either you will taste it and love it, or you will taste it and never want to see another videogame again.

"Mysims Review", MySims

If you want something different than the Sims you've played before this is the game. Little adorable characters help you in your goal to make a tourist spot out of a lonely town.

For those looking for something like the original Sims, this i nothing like that, and focuses on simple tasks that help you to build up the town, with the different choices of interactions between Sims very limited. Overall a fun game, though a bit repetitive.

"My Sims: a mixed review-but still worth having", When I first heard of this game, I was very interested, after hearing it likened to Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing, and of course as part of the Sims game family. When I finally did get it, I had mixed feelings about it, still do, for that matter

1) It does say its a Sims game, but frankly the only similarity between the classic computer game and this is the spinning green diamond over the head of the player's character. The characters, both player and NPC, look like they stepped out of a Lego game...not that this is a bad thing, just unexpected when you are accustomed to the 'real thing'/the PC games. The main difference between the Lego people and those in this game is that My Sims has a very 'chibi' look to it, compared to the more realistic characters of other Sims games. They are cute, just startling in a Sims game.

2) The appearance and overall feel of the game would lead most adult buyers to believing this is a game intended for the preschool/grade school set. While a bright child of this age could play this, I believe it is directed more to a preteen on up to adult consumer. The premise of the game is not explained well in any of the ads or sites I have yet seen...the player's character comes to a resort area, presumably to live, and winds up catering to the whims and requests of an ever growing population of tourists in 6 different areas.

You must carry cake, flowers, and even jewelry to cheer up/placate irate, disappointed or heartbroken tourists. You do this by speaking to them, then offering the appropriate gift, then conversing with them by means of watching their reactions to your use of small emoticons at the bottom of the touch screen. Choose correctly, the tourist cheers up and gives you a hefty tip (your main source of income in this game). Make mistakes, and you are likely to have a furious tourist who yells at you. You have another chance to give another gift, etc, when the game time changes, but until then they won't speak to you. This is the part that I believe would make this game very difficult for most children, because of the necessity of watching closely the NPC's visible emotional signs, and responding to them correctly. I would also imagine it would be hard for younger children to cope with having an NPC angry at them, when the child had been trying to be kind.

3) Most games today have players guides both on and offline, well prepared official sites and so on, that a stumped player can turn to when unable to figure out what is to be done next, or how to play a minigame. Not so My Sims DS... There is very little game support or info out there, nothing on the official game site, and what little I have found is all tips from those who are playing it themselves-which can be good info, or not at all. So the player is left with the option of trying to figure out on his own something that isn't clearly explained in the game, or just ignoring it, which is really too bad, considering that the mini games are also good sources of income. Again, something with the potential to be very frustrating for a young child.

4) While this game seems to be very open ended, the goal is to acquire 5 star rating of your skills with the people of the town and tourists, as well as gaining gold star rated friendship with all the residents. So the player could stop when reaching the five star level, and call it quits, but there is much more to do beyond that, so this game wears well.

5) There are a number of cute little Easter eggs in this game, little extras that bring a smile or a giggle, or a 'neat! Look what I found!' moment, such as when you reel in a large fish....which winds up being ginormous compared to the character! Or feeding the wild animals, and having the deer rub its head on you in thanks. My favourite is the nightly hunt for 'glitters'- sparkles on the ground that indicate that a surprise is there to be picked up. It might be money, rare wallpaper or flooring, fish, flowers and plants for the house or garden, or gemstones that can be later set in rings to give to tourists, or just to decorate your home with.

6) Last, but not least: ***this is not the same game as the Wii version.*** Anyone buying My Sims DS, and expecting it to be a pocket version of the Wii game is going to be disappointed. I have not had the pleasure of playing the Wii version-yet!- but I gather it is significantly different from the NDS version, and really shouldn't be compared. Different mini games, different NPCs and layout make it a very different game, from what I hear.

So, this is an odd game, to say the least, but it is one I have no problem with recommending to anyone above the age of 10 at least. Its pretty, relaxing, no real pressure or time constraints to accomplish different tasks in the game. Its a game that can be picked up and played for a few minutes or a few hours.

"Definitely for the younger audience", I tried this game out on a whim from a coworker and it was an extremely boring though decently made game. I suspect someone a lot younger would enjoy mindlessly planting flowers and very slowly talking with people that say very obvious and over-enthusiastic things to you.

On the other hand if I was pretty young the simple interface would have appealed to me quite a bit and I might have enjoyed wandering around the town and playing the game. It does seem like a very clean game (making it hard to get things wrong) which would keep someone entertained for a good while and let them feel like they're playing 'daddy's' Sim game. :)

Just don't get any wrong ideas about it or you'll be quite disappointed. In retrospect it seems obvious due to the designs of the characters and all, but there have been a lot of childish-seeming games written for adults so the line is pretty blurry anymore.
