"Interesting Language Learning Possibilities"
I am very pleased with the features of the product. Usually, language programs require you to just listen and write. This program uses speech recognition technology, and you speak as you go along. The program prompts you if you are wrong. It's enjoyable! -Gary Ciesla

"Immersion software that really works!"
I've been working with the Rosetta stone software for about 3 weeks now, as little as a couple of hours a week, and I am already noticing remarkable results. For example, at the grocery, I can pick words out of packages that are bilingual. The seemingly simplistic activities are really sticking with me! I have a heck of a time with pronounciation, though. It will drill you and drill you until you get that part right. :)

I wanted to note also that my copy came with a set of headphones in the box, I didn't know it would have them, so I ordered an extra set. If you're looking to save a few bucks, keep that in mind. :)

"Excellent addition to a learning program"
My Spanish has always gotten me around Mexico and South and Central America OK but I always stumbled through anything much more than getting on a bus or ordering food. Since I am giving serious thought to retiring in Central America or Mexico I decided this was a good time to pick it up a few notches. I also frankly find it embarrassing that when working in other countries all educated people are multilingual while I am stuck with tourist Spanish and English. The Spanish Latin America V.3 has been an excellent resource for me. As several reviewers have pointed out, no one book, CD, etc. is going to teach most people a foreign language. However, I have found it to be a great underpinning of my study. I combine it a Learn Spanish in your Car CD series, dictionaries, TV, Spanish language newspapers and forcing native Spanish speakers to endure my grating speech. What I have found most useful about RS is that it has made these other resources much more helpful. The Learn in you car CD sat around for years without much use but now I find it useful when combined with RS. Much the same with other resources. So pick up a copy and then immerse yourself with as much written and spoken Spanish as you can from all avenues.

"Product Support is Essential!"
I recently purchased Rosetta Stone Spanish from Amazon.com. I was initially delighted by the product and its approach to learning a new language. I then started having problems. I realized that an essential part to writing Spanish is the inverted question mark at the beginning of every question. I could not determine a way to make this symbol and I contacted Rosetta Stone Support via the internet and via telephone. I was amazed to learn that the normal level of support could not solve my problem and was told I would have to talk to a supervisory level. I was finally contacted by supervision 4 days later. In the meantime, I decided that this was not going to work and returned the product to Amazon.

"muy fabuloso "
This is a very good product, I've already learned so much. I didn't realize it was a total immersion program, some translation would be nice but they use so much repetition that I can eventually tell what it means.
I really do enjoy it, I go to Mexico on medical missions trips, which is why I got this. So now I'm even more excited to go to see how much I really did learn :)

What our customer's say!

"Rosetta Stone, a language teaching tool, requires commitment.", You have to commit to this program, at LEAST 2 hours a day, or you won't learn anything. If you are commited to learning a new language and have the time to sit down with the program, Rosetta Stone is a great way to go. There is no english at all throughout the program~ You will have to use a translation method if you don't understand the meaning of a word by the clues/pictures provided.

Grab a pen and paper, memorize, speak, and learn a new language.

"Rosetta Stone V3-Spanish (Latin America) Level 1,2,3", I purchased this for my college-aged daughter so that she could become proficient in Spanish. This has given her the practice she needs that the classroom (high school) did not.

"Great Addition to School Learned Spanish", I took 17 hours of Spanish during my undergraduate degree, but could not speak Spanish. I could read Spanish, but I could not understand it when spoken. Rosetta Stone takes a different approach to teaching Spanish than my university. It has made understanding and speaking Spanish within my reach. I had a strong vocabulary base, but Rosetta Stone has helped me to be able to speak and use this vocabulary in everyday conversation. This is a great complement to any Spanish curriculum. It is a wonderful option for those who couldn't learn Spanish "the old fashion way."

"WIsh I could actually review the product but...", I'm sorry, but this isn't a review of their actual product. It's a tale of virus infected software and terrible customer service.

I purchased Latin American Spanish Levels 1, 2 and 3 from a Rosetta Stone Kiosk. When I loaded on the first level, my virus software (BitDefender) notified me that 7 of the content files were infected with the Exploit.SWF.Gen virus. Not a huge deal, but it quarantined the files so they couldn't be used. I sent an e-mail to their customer service asking if they had received any other compliants like this and what I should do. Their response? (after thier automated "thanks for your question, we'll get back with you as soon as possible") Nothing. Sent a follow-up e-mail. Nothing. Call me crazy, but when you spend $450 on a software package, a little customer service would be nice.

I'm in the process of returning the software. Can I return it to the Kiosk? Nope. Company policy. I have to mail their junk back, on my own dime. To rub salt on the wound, you have to jump through several hoops to return the software and have to listen to their unbearable customer service recording (over and over since it takes quite a bit of time to actually speak with a person) about how much Customer Satisfaction is important to them, how they understand how valuable my time is and how an easier way to contact them is through e-mail. Hah!

"Good solid program", This is a good solid program but without my having taken a Spanish course before, this would have been a lot harder. Taking a begining Spanish course either before or in conjunction with this would help a lot. I would recommend this as a supplemental program. Covers a range of skills needed to learn a new language.

"Excellent program, though very overpriced", Hola! You truly can become fluent Spanish with this product, and in relatively very little time. They have made learning a new language by yourself as fun and easy as it can possibly be. Instead of just rote memorization, they've turned it into sort of a game, and they very cleverly use heavy repetition in a way that doesn't seem repetitious at all because the images and situations are always different. For example, you have a lesson which focuses on pronunciation in which you speak into a microphone and it judges your accent, then there's a lesson that focuses on writing in which you write down what you see (image of an apple: right down "una manzana"), etc. Each little lesson builds on the last, so you don't just forget everything after you complete a lesson and take a few days off. There is a huge amount of information that is poured down on you, but it's done in a very manageable way that allows you to actually LEARN the material instead of just memorizing it for the purposes of completing each lesson. If you have taken Spanish in high school then you will have an easier time, but even if you don't have a background in Spanish, if you're willing to work hard at this and have fun with it and look forward to doing it every day, then you will learn Spanish fast.

I took a star off because of the price. Get it used if you can, because honestly it's not worth the price for an average student. If you are a person who gets paid by the hour, then it probably is worth the price because it'll save you a lot of valuable time in learning a new language.

"Horrible for preteens and teenagers", I teach high school Spanish and my school system (without consulting the Spanish department) decided to unilateraly expand Spanish to the junior high where students would learn using Rosetta Stone. Kickbacks anyone? The students are expected to get an introduction to the language from this product rather than from a qualified teacher. It is atrocious! This program might work mildly for an adult who will actually really work at it and not take shortcuts but for adolescents ... por favor. They answer correctly by memorizing picturs or just the first letter of certain words, finish quickly and then goof off with the pronunication function.

On another note, the U.S. government supposably recommends this or uses it. That is such a joke. Is that even a good recommendation? Are Americans good at languages? Are government employees good at languages?Last time I checked the only bilingual people in the U.S. were immigrants.

Finally, so as not to be too harsh, I recommend hiring a private tutor for a time and then travelling abroad. The problem with all these snake-oil miracle cures is that they can (I suppose) work but only if the person using it is the most dedicated, academic, psychotic language learner ever. 98% of the population will not get much from this book or any other self-learning academic product. Take a class! I seriously question the high reviews on this page (planted?) and even if these are real satisfied clients and not employees I doubt they even know if they are good at the language. They have succeeded at the program and feel like they are learning but how can a monolingual individual really know. Wait until they travel abroad and don't know squat.

"Don't buy from Amazon!", I purchased V3 of Rosetta Stone on Amazon because it was nearly $100 cheaper than on the Rosetta Stone website. When I got the package three of the CD's were not in plastic. I was told by Rosetta Stone that I would be able to download it onto two computers. Well, I tried downloading it onto a second computer, and it wouldn't let me. I called Rosetta Stone, and they said it had already been downloaded twice! I supposedly purchased it new on Amazon. I think Amazon is selling this item already used and saying it is new. Return it if any of the CD's are not in plastic! I came to the conclusion that this is why they're selling it for much cheaper!

"Good, but not Great", This is a reasonable tutorial for (my choice) Spanish, but I think the designers focused too much on flash and not enough on pedagogical content. The presentation is fine and you can learn much from it. It's just that it isn't as good as some people seem to believe. I think that the Pimsleur audio tapes (3 volumes), although old school in approach, are still the best Spanish learning tool available.

"Extremely frustrating", I purchased this product because I wanted to brush up on my Spanish. As a graduate student I passed a fluency examination in Spanish. However, I found Rosetta Stone extremely frustrating to use. One, many of the lessons are repetitive on a level that is just too simple. They could be given to a person with zero knowledge of the language and they would pass with flying colors, but have no idea how to speak or write the language. Second, the program has you repeating very basic sounds and often the sound response the user speaks is rejected by the software. It quickly becomes a game, where the point is NOT to speak the language with the best possible accent, but just to get past the Rosetta accent gateway. Also, so many of the sounds are just too basic. I learned nothing after hours of painful repetition. I know that I have at least a very decent accent, because of my past education and my travels in Latin America, but time and again, the software stopped me, until I just had to skip the lesson and once you start skipping lessons, the application has you re-doing earlier lessons, if you follow its internal logic.
After trying it for about three weeks, I just became too frustrating for me and I'm returning it. I'm also rather amazed at the plethora of good reviews this product has received. My experience cannot be unique and it makes me a little suspicious of the veracity of the other reviewers.
