"What's not to like?" I didn't play the previous versions of the game, I started with 6. It is a BLAST. The planes are cool and the fighting is FUN. The graphics are AMAZING. I don't understand some of the other negative reviews. Yes the cut scenes are silly but they have a certain melodramatic humor to them, and we buy video games for the game play, not the cut scenes.
I needed something good after BioShock, it took me a while to find this game and now that I have I'm digging my Xbox again.
GO ACE COMBAT 6!
"Good single player" This is the first Xbox 360 edition of a franchise I have played since PS2. I enjoyed the single player campaign quite a bit. Handling was decent and controls made a good transition to the new platform.
"Fun - but not a little too short" I think I pretty much agree with everyone else who reviewed this game. It's a fun game, especially when you consider that there aren't very many flight combat sims/shooters for the XBox. And one can't get over the beauty of the photo-realistic scenes you're immerse in at every mission. I'm not ashamed to say that I almost cried the first time I played a demo of this game on my 42" Plasma HDTV. However, the game is a little too short. Plus there isn't much replay value. In addition, the cut scenes (that help fill in the storyline) used dated graphics that really pale in comparison to the graphics used in the missions.
Overall, I'd still enthusiastically recommend this game. It just could have been better.
"You will be dancing with the Angels in this game" GOOD: - A good mix or simulation style and arcade fun. - Photo Realistic aircraft with planes that actually show damage when shot at. - Nice mission variety (although for some players, some missions can be pretty dull and other to over the top). - Decent music and voice work. - Good mix online gameplay with versus mode (up to 8 players in either battle royal or team mode) and even a co-op mission mode.
BAD: - Might play too much like arcade or to simulation type game for some people. - Story can be bland and can also be pretty confusing to some due to the fact that it focuses in on secondary characters that play no actual role game but they live in the world in which the game takes place.
IF IT FITS YOUR TASTE: - Plays very much like the past few Ace Combat games on Sony's PS2 - Takes place in a fictional world similar to our own (but not like ours in many ways) but with the same aircraft as our own world. So the while you might recognize planes like the F-14 "Tomcat" (the same jet from the movie Top Gun) you won't recognize any of the peoples or places in this game. - Game is broken up into missions (about 15 levels) in which you follow objectives and earn points to unlock new aircraft, during most of the missions you will have a few objectives (like helping the tank squad or taking down long range missiles) after doing a few optional objectives you mostly have to engage in a mandatory objective like taking down a enemy ace pilot or enemy base. - After doing a few of these optional objectives you get an option to call all the ground/air units you have helped out from earlier in the mission to destroy enemy/enemies that you select. - Certain missions are much easier with certain aircraft, example slow ground based missions' call for the A-10 "Warthog" and fast air-to-air missions call for the Y-F22 "Raptor", but you can still use any jet fighter you want on any level (so you never feel pigeon-holed using a jet you don't want). - You have to unlock then buy (with money/points you earn in game during missions) almost all the aircraft you can use in the game. Also note that all planes come with a few different paint jobs and different types of secondary missiles/weapons that you can buy as well. - All planes come with a primary two shot standard missile. You also even get to select a secondary type of missiles/weapon that can really help out in certain missions like a multi-lock-on missiles for air targets and even a cluster bomb for ground based targets, later on one jet can even have twin rail guns as your secondary weapon.
GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO: - Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War (PS2) - Blazing Angels 2: Secret Missions (360)
ADDITIONAL NOTES: - All the fighter aircraft in this game are replica of real life fighter aircraft (there is only one made-up fighter aircraft is the CFA-44 "Nosferatu" which is the last plane to be unlocked). - There is plenty of online downloadable content for this game, form lot of new unique colors for your fighter aircraft (these newer paint jobs even give the jets different abilities) to new stages for verse modes, and even a few new missions for co-op mode.
"Not that Great" I've been playing games for a while now, and my only experience with ace combat was the original ace combat for the Playstation. That game is better than this one. While the planes, environments, and scenery are all lushly detailed and such, and the simulation of flying is quite fun, the rest of the game is just bad. Cutscenes involve characters that have nothing to do with your character, and the dialogue could not be less interesting if they had just left it in Japanese. Your wingman is an idiot, who refuses to provide any cover. Your allies are idiots that will most certainly die without your guidance. Certain enemies are nuclear physicists who can fly rings around you and destroy you in a heartbeat. Missiles lock on to you and your ever helpful wingman yells that they've got a lock on you in your ear, if the red screen and annoying buzzing noise wasn't enough. But the main problem in this game is that it simply fails to capture your interest. The story isn't engaging and neither is the gameplay, leaving very little to do once you beat the game. It's a mediocre sequel that really could have done with some A.I. and cutscenes that that actually made you care. This game is worth a rental, if you're into aerial dogfights, but it's simply not worth buying. Maybe they can clean up 7 from the uninteresting mess that is Fires of Liberation.

What our customer's say!
"Totally Excellent!", I cannot say enough about this game! After not having flown flight sims for many years, I bought this for the low price ($28) they are selling for now and was very pleasantly surprised! The story-line in the game is engrossing and I couldn't wait after each mission to see the next part in the series. Some have expressed the opinion that the acting is bad, wooden, etc but I thought it added so much to game and really pulled me in. I felt as though I was actually helping free Gracemeria in each mission.
Unlike some of the PC flight sims I flew before, this requires only to go through the tutorials to get you ready for flight and combat. Each mission is detailed out for you and then it's off to the hanger to purchase/pick your plane. Each have different strengths and weaknesses and it was fun using the different planes for the different mission types.
The single player mode is excellent, I can't say enough about it. The multi-player mode was a little tricky to start as the manual didn't cover enough of the details but after a few tries, my brother and I were having a blast on the co-op missions over Xbox Live. Real team-work (one flying an air-2-air platform covering for the other flying a slow air-2-ground platform)was required for some of these missions.
Buy Ace Combat 6, you won't be disappointed!
"Ace Combat 6 - fun", The game has a lot of fun graphics and is fun to play. It is a simple flight system - so not too sophisticated. Good for a game console - would not be acceptable on a PC.
"Great Flight Game...!!!", Excelent Game... I love to play war flight games and I think this is one of the best games I've ever played.
"It'll change your life!", During the summer I got bored staying in my house all day long, I was stuck at my Parent's all summer long till Colledge started up again. I ran out of games to play so I needed some new ones. I'd played fighter games before like blazing angels but I didn't think it was cool. I eventually bought this and GTA 4
Immediately I was in love. I would send hours on end not leaving till I ran out of food. It was great the graphics were impressive, I swear everytime I play it I feel like I'm stepping into a fighter jet to fight enemies in the. The plan selection was great by the way, with my favorite plane being the F-15E Strike Eagle. Controller scheme is like none you've seen before, realistic handling, high G turns.
After I was done I bought Ace Combat Zero for the PS2 for the split-screen multiplayer, and I still play the game and it will likely never get old. Don't listen to me try it out for yourself. Trust me it will change your life forever.
"Great flying but...", This is a great flying game, very kool graphics and game play but...The story line is pretty bad and way to much talking going on. Plus i'd love for it to have a mode where you can doigfight someone in free flight with two controllers. Its only one player but you can dogfight online if you want, which requires an Xbox live account, i guees its all about the mighty dollar. The game costs enough as it is, can they at least cut us a break on something, i want to dogfight my buddy sitting next to me, not some stranger thousands of miles away.

"Impressive graphics, good gameplay", Once you get over the fact that this isn't a traditional flight sim by any means, you can have a lot of fun with this one.
The graphics are superb. I am suprised at just how good they got them to look and still manage and excellent frame rate. Lighting effects (flare) and smoke/particle effects really build a realistic atmosphere.
What is not realistic is the fact that you can carry a couple of hundred missles to shoot the bad guys. Also, the flight model is not that accurate. This game is more about having fun flying around and blowing stuff up rather than trying to be an accurate sim (in fact, try not to think of it as a sim at all).
One gripe I have is that it seems that you could easily use just a handful of the available planes to complete the missions - completely ignoring the strengths of some of the less overall capable planes (I really wanted a mission designed just for the A10 for example).
Enemy AI is ok, with the harder levels providing a challenge for seasoned gamers.
One problem I have is with the cut scenes. They are beautifuly rendered but clearly the story line and the dialogue was written by adrunken 4 year old. Surely they could have come up with something more compelling.
Overall, this game is worth it. With multiple difficulty levels and online play it has some lastability.
"It's ok I guess...", The game starts off well. It's immersive and entertaining. The graphics are stunning and the music adds a nice touch. However, this game all of a sudden falls flat on it's face. I did not play the other games. I'm new to the series, but not to flight sims, arcade or not. The game made for a fun experience but then it just becomes almost impossible. The alerts for incoming missiles becomes so annoying that I thought about throwing my controller for the first time in 20 years. The wingmen and the rest of your squadron are completely useless. The wingman also doesn't shut up the entire time. It's such a disappointment because you go from an absolute winner, to some of the worst gameplay in recent memory. A game is supposed to be challenging, not ridiculously repetitive and aggravating. Also, don't even bother paying attention to the story. It has all the cliches of a bad writing and voice acting. Just skip it all together and play the missions.
Fans of the game will probably love this game, but if you're new to it, be warned. It's pretty and fun for a while, then falls apart.
"Realism to Unrealistic", Overall the game is fun but the storyline in the campaign mode is a bit corny. For a good bit of the game it is mildly realistic but in the final battle it is totally ridiculous. Flying an F15 at 1500 knots and the enemy planes fly circles around you. You watch the radar screen as they pull away from you at three times your speed. That means they're flying at 4500 knots? The game does not autosave your progress when you reach checkpoints throughout the game so if you choose to end your session and do something else like go to bed, when you start again you'll have to fly the entire mission again . . . and again. That gets rather boring and tedious. To really enjoy this game you have to have absolutely nothing better to do but sit and play it for hours on end. I would rate it a 4 out of 10.
"WOW...", This game is a very good game for a few reasons. The first reason is the graphics, I cant believe the graphics on this game it looks so real (especially the airplanes). Second reason is the game play, The missions vary so you never do the same thing over again. The third and final reason is story, the story makes sense and it is understandable.
There is only one con to the game but it isn't a big one the dialog is stupid and corny but i don't play games for the dialog so it doesn't matter.
"great game", This is a great game, but the story is simple, too simple. The plot is sometimes touching, but mostly plain. The graphic is fantastic. I'll recommend to get a widescreen LCD, the graphic detail will look amazing.
