Others say...
"Decent game; not so decent controller..." I must admit, I'm new to the Time Crisis series of games, but have been a casual fan of light gun games over the years, including Duck Hunt, Area 51, and various others that you find in movie theatre arcades these days. I bought this game during one of Amazon's DotD (deal of the day) promos, so I got it for $39. I'd say it was worth it for that amount, but I would not pay much more for this set.
The game is fun, it's another light gun shooting game. The arcade mode is pretty much a typical light gun game, pretty fun, with variable difficulty and two characters to choose from, so there's plenty of gameplay there. There's also a "Complete Mission" mode that uses the additional controls on the Guncon 3 to make an FPS/light gun hybrid game. It's decent, although the character movement is a bit sluggish, but it is otherwise okay. Don't expect a deep story, it's the same tried and true good guys vs. terrorists that you get in a game like this, but hey, that's what this genre is about, mmkay? The target practice minigames are fun, and one of the only ways you can play multiplayer with only one Guncon.
The game is only half of this package, and I daresay the better part. The other part is the Guncon 3 controller, a lightgun in a series of three that Namco has made over the years for the various Playstation Consoles. This newest addition to the lightgun lineup is different, as it uses a system similar to the Nintendo Wii sensor bar to triangulate the position of the gun onscreen. They have to use this method because many modern TV's don't work with the older light guns because of the way that those older guns work by using light from the screen to detect the position of the pointer. The Wii sensor bar seems reasonably accurate to detect the pointing of the Wii remote. The Guncon Sensors are not. It's jittery, inaccurate, and requires constant calibration to get working. It will work, but get familiar with the calibration screen, you'll be using it a LOT.
This is a decent package, with a decent game, not great, but decent, and a sub-par controller. As I said before, if you can get this package for less than $50, it might be worth your while, but don't pay much more for it.
"Time Crisis 4" This game is awesome. An innovative way to play a first person shooter with a gun controller. With the guncon 3 it allows you to play this first person shooter with more action adn detail than any other game. I just hope that they bring out more games that are compatible with the gun. The plot is thicker and seems to jut add to the game play. Also the stunning detail and resolution of this game make it the best gun game out thus far. The price was completely worth every penny.
"Great Game!" Its a great game... a lot of fun! My only major complaint is the Guncon3 setup... to run the wires each and everytime is a bit annoying...
"A Mediocre Game, Which Should Have Been More" Time Crises 4 developers spouted raves about how great the game would be, stating the the GunCon would be the most advanced gun accessory for any home video game system. Well, they stated such claims prior to the release of Time Crises 4, at least.
The graphics are decent. Nothing to fancy, but it does remind me of actually going to the arcade. Unfortunately, that's where the allusions to arcade brilliance draw to a close.
The GunCon setup is needlessly difficult. You have to set up sensors on top of your TV, then you have to calibrate the gun every single time you play the game. Now, I won't berate the whole need to use LED sensors. Such is life. However, the need to set the gun up each time you fire up the game is indicative of how annoying this game is on multiple occasions.
Also, the gun isn't very accurate, which is never a good thing for shoot 'em up game.
All of that aside, the worst thing about the gun is that it's needlessly complex. Really. It has two small joysticks, which are locate in an awkward position, and a two buttons located on the front, back and left hand side. Yeah, that makes six small buttons to give you some hand cramps.
Last, but not least, the gun requires you to be a good distance from your TV to even use it. Particularly for HD TVs. In order to even play the thing, I ended up needing to stay behind my rear speakers. Only then would the gun even register.
So, all in all, my advice would be to pass on this game, unless you're desperate for a shoot 'em up. If that's the case, I wish you the best of luck, and would still advise you to wait for a sale. Maybe you'll get your monies worth once it's relegated to the bargain bin.
"A Fun Time" Time Crisis 4 has plenty of action and excitement enough to keep you intrigued for a long time.

What our customer's say!
"Good.", its a fun game, but a little confusing at first but then you get the hang of it. graphics i feel could of been a lot better. i consider it a hassle to aim the gun every time you play or having to set up the infrared sensors. The gun is not cordless whitch was not appealing, together with the gun color(bright orange). other than that is a fun game to play.
"Can't Save in Arcade Mode", This game had great potential to becoming one of the funnest game for the PS3 system. The graphics are okay and the Guncon is accurate if you know how to calibrate it right. Now, let's talk about the gameplay, and here is where the developers screwed up (hope there is a patch that can fix this nuance someday). Let me explain, first TC has always be a gun on rails arcade game and they should've left it like that. The FPS mode is cumbersome, the controls feel clunky. Not a lot of fun for me.
Arcade, here is where they really messed up the game. Come on, who had the brilliant idea to limit the number of saves to 3?? Imagine you only get 3 saves to beat the game in Arcade mode. Since when TC only allowed people to put 3 quarters before they had to start the game all over from the beginning. And this is what the game does, you only get 3 saves and believe me when you have to re-start the game for a third time it gets old very quickly. I'm a casual gamer and I don't have the time to master this game to the level that I would make it through the end with only 3 saves. I just hope there will be new games that will make use of the Guncon in the future.
"old game better graphics", this game was ok but nothing inovative about it and got bored of playing it after a couple of times. i bought it for 49 dollars on a GB special and got about my money's worth back as a tradin at a local buy sell and trade store. overall atleast i didn't waste my money on it.
"It would be Good if it was a $60 game But $80 is too much", This game is a port of an arcade game. One of the features is the included light gun that requires a ugly tangled mess of wires and a sensor array that you have to hang on top of your television. It takes about 5 minutes of setup to play this game if you don't like ugly crap hanging off your HDTV. The light gun and the sensor bar each also take up a usb port on your ps3. Now once you get this mess of a device set up you can begin playing the game.
The Guncon has an number of analog sticks and buttons on it for switching to the different weapons, and a button for reloading and hiding. I found holding the second handle to be uncomfortable for long periods, and you left handed shooters are out of luck. This is a bad un-ambidextrous design for the gun. The game itself is pretty fun, but just simply mucks up the fun with having one button to switch between the different guns you may carry. I really like Time Crisis 1 and 2 much better due to the simplicity of weapons and not having to deal with an uncomfortable posture holding this gun.
There is also a side game that uses the analog sticks to move around like halo, but I found the level design really un inspired. The control scheme sounds great on paper, but do to having to aim with the unergonomic design of the light gun, playing in this mode got tiring after a while and actually hurt my wrist, back and shoulder.
On the bright side, the game itself is pretty good for a light gun game and contains your usual point and kill style of game that you are expecting. Overall the game is a pretty big dissapointment due the the implementation of hard and is way overpriced. If the gun was one handed and didn't feel like I was operating a belt sander I would have scored it better.
"Superficial and short-lived.", If you think that playing this game will fulfill any of your overly nostalgic memories of playing Time Crisis at the local Golfland, then you'd be sadly mistaken. The gun does not seem very accurate, and has somewhat of a lag time between where you aim it on the screen and where the reticle appears. Plus the arcade-shooting portion of the game is very, very short. The added FPS mode is insipid, and feels like it was just tacked on to make this a complete game. All-in-all, just a two-star product. I would only purchase this if Amazon (which is rockingly awesome) had it for about $30 again.

"Great shooter with limited game play", My only experience with the Time Crisis series goes back to the original title that was on Playstation 1. My friends and I had a blast playing that game over and over.
Time Crisis 4 is similar in its game play but the graphics are obviously much better. Actually, I was surprised how good the graphics were as they appeared to be much better than any first generation PS3 game. There are essentially two ways (storylines) to play this game. 1. The arcade way which is like Time Crisis 1 on the original Playstation or 2. a much longer version that is more involved and breathes new life into the Time Crisis series.
The 1st way is a lot of fun and will no doubt be the storyline your friends will play when they come over and visit. You merely start shooting and ducking which is easy and why anyone can play this game. There is a new element that allows you to take on enemies coming from multiple directions, meaning you have to turn your character to the left or right (very easy to do) to gun down your foes. You can also pick up 4 different weapons which you can cycle through while you're ducking/hiding. You can get through this entire sequence in 35-45 minutes if you don't die.
The 2nd way involves you walking through the game like any first person shooter (like Resistance: Fall of Man). There are two toggle joy sticks on the gun that you use just like in any other shooter. The difference is you don't have to hone your aim using the joysticks, you merely use the joystick to get your target on screen and then you aim the gun and fire. Your health level increases as you stand still for periods of time. This makes it initially pretty easy, but when you find yourself in a heated firefight, it can become a little dicey. The first level I thought was pretty boring and I was beginning to dread the game, but after that, each of the following levels were much more engaging. I don't know why they made the first level so dull with an environment that has no interaction with your character. You can also jump, crawl, and zoom-in (sniper) much like any other shooter game. It will take you about 3 hours to get through this without dying.
There are also several mini-games you can choose from the top screen. They mostly mimic skeet shooting with discs or balloons and provide a good challenge, albeit it a frustrating one. (Frustrating because I'm not too good at it)
Regarding the accuracy of aiming the Guncon, I found the system to be nearly dead-on exact. Any slight discrepancy (and were talking centimeters here) I attribute to my own inability to correctly aim the gun when setting the 5 point targeting system. I play this on a 50 inch LCD rear projection Sony while sitting about 7-8 feet away from the TV. The aiming is just as good if not better than the original installment, which I always thought to be flawless.
I picked this game up on Amazon when they were selling it for the crazy price of $49.99. It was definitely worth the money considering you received the Guncon (about a $30 value in itself) with the game . I don't know if I would pay $90 or possibly even $80 for the same game though. This is primarily because I'm not drawn to play the game again now that I've beaten it...though that is probably because I spent so much initial time playing the game that I'm burned-out for the time being. I'm sure in a month or two I'll want to pick it up again.
"pretty fun", i had to replace my first order because the light sensors were defective. didn't know that sensors were supposed to light up (hard to see). once i got a set that worked, it was all game. haven't really tried any time crisis game before, but so far it kept me going for more.
"Far better than the reviews lead you to believe", Despite horrid reviews and people bashing this game for bad accuracy and a cheap gun, it's really not as bad as they say. In fact, it's not bad at all, it's great.
Starting with the gun itself. It very accurate. You can do a standard or 5 point calibration which works very well. You can make the gun as accurate ( or inaccurate as you like). One thing i've found though that may lead people to think it has poor calibration is the tv, not the game. Look at the screen used in the arcade. It's small and square. When you take into account a 40 plus inch widescreen tv, you've got more screen space to shoot at which means you must move the gun to a greater degree that in the arcade. If you unintentionally just move your wrists to aim the gun like i do sometimes, the accurracy is horrible ( so it seems) But it you were to look down the sights of the gun while you had your wrist flex over, you'll realize that it's shooting exactly where your pointing. SO you have to shoot the way you calibrated it. If you hold it like a cop does and shoot the five targets looking straight down the sights, you need to play the game like that. If you lax your grip and lower your gun, then yes, it's not going to be accurate because that's not the way it's calibrated. I believe this is where the whole "horrible accuracy gun" claims derive from.
As for gun quality. It's great. It's definatly not like the arcade, but then again if it was, you would be paying a whole lot more that $75 for it. The bright orange color is the main reason it seems cheap. The plastic casing on it is quite well, the seems are quite smooth and the texture of the plastic is unison. It doesn't have the platic swirls that cheap plastic toys do. The buttons are fine and very functional. the only thing I don't really like is the joysticks. The knobs that pop out are small and they aren't rubberized so my thumbs slip A LOT. But overall, the guns fine.
The game itself is fun too. For all those that complain about bad storylines...well, you don't play a light gun game for the story. It's basically a straight port from the arcade. So if you like the arcade version, you'll really love this because you don't need to constantly feed it quarters.
The FPS mode is unique. It's nothing to write home about. But it's definetly fun to try out. But it gets tiring quickly though because unlike something like Resistance, you have to constantly hold both arms up to shoot.
Overall, if you like TC. This is a no brainer. If your interested in this, you'll definetly find something to like. But if you have no interest in light gun games or TC.....then why are you reading this? =P
"Time Crisis 4", This is not what I expected. I was thinking I was going to enjoy one of those old school Guncon 2 Games that I bought for my PS2. It was actually a First Person Shooter using the Guncon 3 as a controller. Graphically it reminds me of the first generation PS2 FPS. It does bring a new way to play a FPS but it is poorly polished. The AI is the same as playing a Guncon 2 game and not the average FPS AI. Enemies will spawn from thin air to attack you. You can check an area throughly and next thing you know, you are back attack from an area you already checked. The Guncon3 (Far as I tried) is not backwards compatible with the Guncon2 games. The Guncon2 games do not sense the Guncon3 is there. I still havent tried to use the setup with a Guncon2 instead of a Guncon3 to see if it works with the Guncon2 games. On a Hi-Def television, the Guncon2 guns do not work. The Guncon3 does come with some light sensitive TV mounts to compensate for that, but I have not tried them with the Guncon2 to see if it works. Overall: If you are expecting that Arcade experience, (House of the Dead series or Time Crisis 1-3) you are in for a bid disappointment. If you always wanted to play a FPS with a Guncon then you will like this game. Just dont expect the quality the last few years FPSs.
"Cool game", Overall good game, the multiplayer feature is cool. Really two games in one since you have arcade mode. Might be a little on the easy side - completed the arcade mode in a few days. The led sensors are not long enough for a 46 inch TV - good for small TV sets.
