"Get the glue out!!!"
This was a fun thing to put together for my son's social studies project. There are over 10,000 pieces which we separated into tupperware bowls with lids. Be careful not to lose any pieces because it can compromise the entire structure. When transporting the tower from one place to another, put a solid piece of wood under the base. The middle and top parts are separate and can easily be moved. It can fall apart with a good bump, so you might want to considering gluing the pieces.

"This set consists of 6 gazillion pieces, all of them gray."
Okay, okay, I'm exaggerating: it's only 3428 pieces, and only 3027 of them are gray.

This is an incredible set, and looks amazing when finished. It's the most difficult build I have done, though I hear that the Ultimate Millennium Falcon is even harder.

The almost completely uniform color scheme demands a disciplined approach and plenty of multi-compartment trays. I hate to think what it would be like if I followed my usual habit of ripping open all the bags, dumping all the pieces in a pile, and building the coolest bits first regardless of official sequence. Some of the parts are packed in sorted bags (eg. the 230 gray 1x4x1 fences are packed in three bags). Other pieces are mixed in together, which means you have to sort them out, all the while grumbling about why they didn't sort all the pieces. Seriously, why sort some but not all?

The middle and top sections of the tower are relatively simple, and very sturdy. The lower section is both fragile and tricky. In some places the pieces are not so much locked together as balanced against each other. It is vital that you make sure all the pieces are aligned and tightly connected. A slightly loose piece in the bottom of the structure can be a huge problem for the pieces a foot above it. It's not easy to tighten two pieces after the fact without disturbing lots of other pieces.

For the first time ever I found some of the instructions hard to follow as the uniform color made it hard to figure out the perspective in the instruction drawings. Twice I found that two parts which were meant to join up were a tile-thickness different in height. I had to go back through the steps to figure out which teeny-tiny piece I had put in the wrong place, then dismantle and rebuild. In one case I had put one too many 1x2 plates in one of the legs; in another I had a 1x3 plate one stud out of place. You need to be methodical, gathering all the pieces for a given step, paying careful attention to the diagrams, and making sure all pieces from a step are accounted for.

I also strongly advise keeping small children at bay. My 5 and 8 year-old sons thought the Eiffel Tower really needed a train station under it, and track surrounding it, which might have been workable had not a dispute over the exact placement of the station led to a massive engineering catastrophe.

As others have said, I would love to see more world monuments. The Colosseum, Taj Mahal, Angkor Wat, or Ely Cathedral would be awesome. The Seven Wonders of the Lego World would be a fantastic series.

An update (May 11, 2008): According to brickset.com Lego will be releasing a model Taj Mahal later this year! No pictures or a release date as yet, but the set number is 10189. Bricklink hears about new sets several months in advance so I imagine this will be a Q3/Q4 release.

"Great Toy for my 10 year old Son"
My 10-year-old son got the Lego Eiffel Tower for Christmas and he worked diligently on it for the next 3 days. He completed it by himself, working approximately 20 hours on it. It is a great looking finished product. He is hoping Lego will begin producing other landmarks, such as the Empire State Building, etc.

"Lego should make more sets like this"
I purchased this set a couple of weeks ago and just finished building it today, I must say I haven't been this impressed with a lego set in many years.

You don't understand how large it is until you have finished it. By the time I put the spire on I was amazed.

The actual building of the set isn't complicated, you can actually figure out how to build the different levels by building the first couple w/o the instructions, but can be frustrating due to the thousands of tiny pieces that comprise the set. Three or four times I spent 10+ minutes searching the sprawling pile of pieces for the elusive piece.

You build the set in three stages. The first stage is the base and is the only section I have any complaints about. The base is very fragile, don't even think about trying to lift it up by any way other than the base plates. The fragile nature is a consequence of just how well the set resembles the real thing so it is acceptable, just be careful. The middle and top stages are much more sturdy and easy to handle.

I was missing 15 pieces which made finishing it complicated but Lego is very good and prompt about replacing them so it did not turn out to be an issue.

I highly recommend this set if you are into the model sets, not much fun for playing.

"My son really enjoy this!"
My soon to be 16 year old son got this as a Christmas gift. He started working on it the night he got it and finished it two days later. Total working time was somewhere between 6-10 hours.

What our customer's say!

"Class Project", Well my class decided to buy this tower and give it to our French teacher. Building it together was the best part. For about 9 people it took us about 5 hours to finish. The only problem we had with this Lego set was the base. The base seemed kinda fragile to us and we had to glue the base together.

"4 missing pieces, yet completed after receiving 4 replacement pieces from Denmark", At long last, I have finally completed my Lego Eiffel Tower model yesterday. Soaring 3 and a half feet above my folding table is a thrill to watch. It took 8 months and a lot of patience to create this must-see Parisian landmark with over 3,000 plastic pieces. The only disappointment is that towards the end of constructing the top portion of this tower, I shockingly discovered last month that 4 pieces were missing. I had to temporarily halt construction as a result of this. Every piece makes a difference when constructing with Lego bricks.

"Beatiful, magnificent, must I say more?", I've been saving up to buy this for a long time, and now that I've got it, I couldn't be happier. Fully built, it stands 45" tall (The box says 42", but I measured it myself)!!! It was much bigger than I expected, and I had a blast. It won't fall apart as long as you don't do anything crazy to it.

Here's some tips as to when you're building it:

1. When you get it, it'll be 10 pounds, so be prepared for hauling that to wherever you're going to build it.

2. I'd say to have plenty of space. I'd suggest about 4 feet of flat space in every direction.

3. When you open it, take out all of the bags. Organize the bags into piles of bags that look the same or just about the same. I'd say that the bags are organized well. There not organized chronologically, but by piece, which is better in my opinion.

4. Lay the organized piles in a circle, with enough space in the middle for you, an instruction booklet, and 4 base plates sitting edge-to-edge.

5. Cut open the bags and NO MATTER WHAT keep all of the pieces still organized. It will be much easier to have them organized than to have a massive pile in front of you.

6. Tupperwear (spelling?) bowls are not necessary.

7. Get in the middle and start building.

8. The above technique isn't suggested if your back and neck hurt easily. If that is the case, lay the pieces out ORGANIZED THE SAME WAY on a table in a crescent shape.

9. When you finish each section, set it aside instead of building the next one on top of it.

10. When sticking pieces together, try to push it down with your thumb and push the below piece up with your index finger to keep anything from falling apart.

Mainly JUST DON'T THROW ALL OF THE PIECES INTO ONE BIG PILE!!!!!!

Have fun building!

"This was a great team building project with a 16 year old", I have no idea WHY purchasing this seemed like the "ideal solution" for dealing with a cantankerous adolescent but...amazingly, it worked! Instead of the "parent", I was assigned the role of "occasionally helpful assistant". I was wowed by my offspring's persistence, guidance and skill in putting this together. Meanwhile, there was some chat here and there, all appreciated (by me, at least).

It was a learning experience....and I'm not talking just about the task of finding exactly which pieces went where. That was indeed a challenge! More important? Getting outside our usual routine and doing something different. He was the seasoned Lego pro and I was the apprentice.

Some words of advice about building this truly amazing structure: it is delicate but not complicated to complete. We did have part of one level come apart, temporarily, when applying pressure to get a piece to stick. That only happened once and we upped our learning curve.

You need to pay attention to the height and width of every piece to make sure you do indeed select the exact...right..piece... and the drawings and instruction booklets could have had more details, although my son didn't find them impossible to follow. I have no idea why the pieces aren't sorted so that you can find them when you come to the next step of the directions...but they aren't.

There are three books of directions for this one. It doesn't come together quickly and having a partner sure helped when piecing together some of the more delicate and flimsy sections.

It actually looks nice when displayed too! I don't think I could have done this on my own.

"Lego eiffel tower", As your building it's not sturdy at all which sucks because while i was putting it together 2-4times it broke on me and i had to hit some walls and damage some personal items before putting it back togehter.

And I would say this is probably the hardest lego to build considering i haven't attempted and not going to attempt the star wars lego ship that has the most pieces that lego has ever put into a set and costs 500$

But overall if you want a challenge purchase the lego eiffel tower. I LOVED IT LOOKS AMAZING!!!

"Better than going to Paris?", Wow - this thing is big! Have you ever put together a puzzle where alot of the pieces are the same colors? This is a 3D version of that challenge which makes it more rewarding, but, be prepared to search for the pieces needed with each step of building -
At least half of the nine hours it took me to put this together were spent hunting for pieces and that is the main complaint I have about this set - 3400 pieces is too many to just dump out and search through, so I left them in their bags and assumed they would be somewhat related within their plastic bags as to when you need to use them - but they're not. Most frustrating is that they are not logically in the correct bags and some multiples of pieces are spread across different bags. You must be very patient at the beginning to find all the pieces needed for each step.
Having said this, the finished product attracted neighbors that wanted to see it (I put it together in my garage and they saw me working on something big) and it was a satisfying project to work on. It truly feels like a piece of Legoland is in our home now :) Problem is, my wife wants to go see the real thing now; and so do I just to see how my build compares :)

"A triumph in Lego engineering", I've been a Lego fan since I was a child and bought this product the moment I saw it. It took me and my girlfriend about 10 hours to complete. The final product is very tall (box says 42" tall, but mine measured about 45") and absolutely beautiful.
Amazingly there was not one point in the instructions that was in any way confusing. Only difficult part of building it is digging through the 3400+ pieces to find the one you need.
For years I've wished Lego would make models of real-world skyscrapers. I guess the Eiffel Tower probably falls more into the world monument category. Either way, I look forward to more world monuments and skyscrapers in the future.
Worth every penny!

"Challenge but Fun ", My son (age 12) and I assembled this item together during the Christmas. It was challenge but fun. We helped each other to find the pieces and read the instruction. It took us four days to finish it (2 - 3 hours per day). I wish I can upload the finished tower on the website for you to see.

"My 9 year old son is loving this product!!!", My nine year old son is loving this Lego kit!! He dug into it immediately!! He loves to build Lego creations and is quite creative with Lego's. When he asked for this product and I mentioned it is recommended for sixteen year olds and older, he still wanted it. He is about 1/3 of the way through it already and knows he can complete it!!! Great gift for him!!!!

"Spectacular model", This is a spectacular model. I agree with the other reviewer, I wish they made more monument kits. It needs a little patience to build (3000 parts), and an attention to detail, but the experience and the results are great. Since this tower was originally built of stock railroad-bridge materials, there are some really cool alternatives to build out of this kit.
