"Very Disappointing!!!"
As a loyal fan of EA Games and previous versions of NCAA Football, I was very disappointed in this game. I was blown away by all the features that they left out from NCAA '07. EA has always done a good job in the past of paying close attention to the small details, but they missed the mark on this game. I think in their haste to get this game out, they have upset a lot of people who paid good money for a game that is in my opinion, inferior to the '07 PS2 version.

For starters they left off all 1AA schools, create-a-team, and many features from create-a-player. The new recruiting mode is well done, but is very time consuming. It takes longer to manage your recruiting then it does to play a game during the season. Another thing that I found very annoying is the unrealistic high number of turnovers. This game is definitely geared towards a defensive minded player. Which I realize some people may enjoy, but I definitely don't. It is almost impossible to throw a deep pass on this game. Which I realize is realistic in some cases, but when you have a standout receiver going against a sub-par cornerback, you should be able to complete a deep pass every now and again. I also found that it is very difficult to control the actual throw. In previous versions you could easily throw a dart or a nice lob pass, on this version it is almost always a dart. I have also noticed that the game AI definitely increases to an unrealistic level once you reach the red zone. You will definitely be kicking a lot more field goals in this game then you have in previous versions...Which I don't like!

I also believe that the overall speed of the game is way too slow. The players look and feel like they are in slow motion. The juke moves are decent, but the controls are slow reacting. You have to initiate your juke move long before you get to the defender in order for it to work.

I also found that you have an overall lack of participation in this game. You might as well just call the plays and sit back and watch what happens when you are on defense. For someone like me who likes to be a part of the action, this game is very frustrating.

Amongst countless other details, the commentary is off in the game as well. The announcers will still be calling a previous play when you have moved on to the next play.

One thing I do like is the fact that they changed the way you call plays. While I still don't think it's perfect, it is much better. It is nice that you can call a play in a manner that a second player won't be able to watch your screen and determine what you called. One thing I think they need to add is an extended play clock. The current version is somewhat cumbersome and is very difficult to find the play you want in a timely manner. I would also say that about 40% of the plays are worthless.

Overall I think the game totally missed the mark. While the game is still better then most football games on the market, I think EA took a step back from their previous versions. I am hoping that in '09 they will bring back all the features that they took out and bring some of the control back to the player. They definitely need to bring back create-a-school and create-a-player (with even more features and options). If they keep the game play the way it is on defense, they might as well change the name to NCAA College Coaching!

"Unless you're a college football fan, you shouldn't get this."
The only reason I keep coming back to this game is because I am a huge Trojan fan. If I was just into any kind of football, I'd stick with Madden. Madden has way more options, and probably the only thing that NCAA has over the Madden series is the recruiting system and the spread option offense.

What I don't understand is, why am I so good at Madden, and yet, on NCAA, I can't throw a pass without fearing for my life that it will get picked off? Even with a top team like USC, you can still struggle to beat teams like Idaho.

The other thing is, the game plays so slowly. Sometimes, you swear you're not hitting that Sprint button, because the players are running as fast as tanks.

And on pre play snaps, you don't have the formation audibles that you get in Madden, so you're stuck with the same 5 audibles you always have, and you can't exploit the holes you read in the defense.

On the flip side, the recruiting system is awesome, and especially if you're into the draft/recruit parts of the season mode, you'll like the game. Also, the punt coverage is a lot better than Madden's.

This game is enjoyable to me cause i like the recruiting system and I'm a diehard USC fan. If it wasn't for that, this game wouldn't be on my list.

"Versus Mode unplayable"
The Graphics are cool, the Campus mode is great but the game is missing the most importing thing in a football game and that is hiding your plays. This game is not playable when it comes to versus mode, because you can see what plays your opponent picks and they can see yours, this is the dumbest thing to have been put into a football game. I really like the College Football atmosphere but having someone be able to see my strategy and being able to prepare for it kills the game completely.

"Very disappointed"
I just brought NCAA Football 2008 for my PS3 which I recently purchased. I was so excited until I popped the game in. First off, there is only camera view you can play on. I've always played the "side view" because it looks like your watching it on TV. Second, the characters look a little pudgy and too "comical" if you ask me. They look like they came off from some anime movie. However, the tackling was awesome and gameplay ain't too shabby. Has anyone played it for the xbox 360? If so, is the side view still available? I'm going to keep my PS2 version for now since its way better than this one.

"PS3 NCAA Football"
Just when you think it NCAA can't get any better, they came out with NCAA 08, there are a few controller changes but the game is much better once you get the hang of the new changes.

Why I buy this one ?
- Create and manage your team - Take control and make the play
- Relive Highlights
- Home Field Advantage, composure ratings, and an all-new fatigue system, plus new trick plays like the Statue of Liberty and Hook and Ladder make this the best NCAA Football game ever
- Auto Motion Plays - Sounds simple enough, before the QB snaps the ball a receiver will go in motion automatically. Think about plays like WR sweeps, reverses, end-arounds, and other types of misdirection plays have all become exponentially more effective. In previous editions, plays like end-arounds and reverses didn't work because you had to wait for what seemed like an eternity for your WR to get the handoff. But now, with auto motion, that receiver gets the handoff quickly and already has a
- Trick Plays - If the auto motion plays aren't enough to catch your opponent off guard, then the new trick plays in NCAA Football 08 are guaranteed to do the trick (pun intended). The double pass play has you first throw a screen pass to your wide receiver. When the defense converges on that screen, the ball carrier tosses it to another WR downfield, hopefully for a TD. When used at the right time, a double pass can be deadly effective. We also got the Statue of Liberty and hook and ladder play

It's better to buy this one too...

What our customer's say!

"why cant i create", i think the game is great in all aspects except that EA did away with creating a school put that back on the game EA.

"Screen Pass Glitch", I have been a fairly loyal fan of the NCAA Football series since the 2003-2004 version. Most of the other reviewers have hit the high and low points of this version. After having played four to five versions of this game I cannot understand why the haven't changed the code which has the AI team execute a screen pass on third down only to have the running back step out of bounds and loose a couple of yards. Are the play testers at EA that bad? Maybe they just laugh as hard as I do when this happens over and over again. Whatever the case, it would be nice if they actually fixed this glitch.

"Awesome game for PS3 minus 30fps rate", I've been buying all of the NCAA Football games for the past 2 years. This one for the PS3 was great with the exception of 2 things.

1. Having 60fps would have been much better than the 30fps.
2. I miss the home crowd effects from previous years and momentum builders. I think they are bringing it back for 09, but it really makes the game more exciting.
The graphics get better and better each year.

To me, this is a must have for college football fans.

"Good Game ---Way too many turnovers!", Basically the same as '07 --except you can't create your own team but the graphics are light years better! Gameplay is much the same however the number of turnovers in every level except Heisman is ridiculous. Brad Nessman's play by play is behind the action such as in previous editions, commentary is largely verbatim from '07 except for a few new observations which keep Lee Corso's banality intact. The refresh rate on my PS3 stalls often when you break the huddle pausing for a second or two and the most annoying thing is the player's of the game banner which covers much of the screen while the game is still in progress.
Stadium rendition at least for Commonwealth stadium and the other SEC schools is pretty accurate (the ones with which I am most familiar)which is good b/c you get sweeping views of the stadium during every break in the action (end of quarter, after a PAT) and the rendition of the UK Wildcat mascot is great especially compared to '07.
As another has said the player power ratings are pretty much right on. I've yet to figure out how to customize my playbook and while I selected a coach visage to represent myself I've yet to see him on the sidelines or in cut-aways like in '07.
All in all a fun game with much improved graphics although 5-6 pics in a single game by one team is absurd! My defensive secondary is famous b/c of it but it's not at all realistic.I won't even mention the average number of fumbles per game.
Recruiting is much enhanced & somewhat more fun and realistic although much more time consuming than NCAA '07
If you can find it cheap it's a good game.Don't pay full retail however.

"why the neg reviews???", I bought this game despite the negative reviews and low star rating. Not sure what the fuss is all about - this is a solid game - the gameplay is fantastic and the player rankings is excellent in terms of speed and overall ability - someone at EA did some serious research to provide all the information on the players

Download the player names from ebay (paid only $3.00) and you got a great game. The recruiting is fun - like a reality show - you're doing what the college coaches do - the control of the players in the game is smooth and it feels great to go r2 with a burst of speed after an interception for a touch or a long run or pass.

Only problem I had is that the PS3 Version has no special classic teams like the PS2 Version - big letdown here - wanted to play wiht the classic players of the past, REggie bush, vince young , herschel walker, desmond howard, deion sanders - they should have added classic teams to the 08 game.

"There are flaws, however this is a very fun game!", First of all I've had this game for about 2 months now. I am into my 4th season in Dynasty mode. I feel that the AI is much better this year because I haven't went undefeated every season. I actually haven't went undefeated yet! The recruiting is great and adds depth to an already very fun part of Dynasty.

I do feel that EA could have put out a MUCH better game, however, if you like college football and enjoy the depth of dynasty mode then definitely get this game! The flaws are apparent, but don't take enough away from the game to make you regret buying it.

Some of the things that I dislike are:
-No Create-A-Team
-In Game Stats are very random and don't designate if they are career, season, or game stats. You have to judge that on your own.
-Some uniforms look very glossy and unrealistic
-Can't save more than one dynasty at a time. It will overwrite your current one.

I'm trying to think of other things that I dislike and can't think of any others at the moment. I could go on about things that I wish EA would add to next years game, but I can do that with every game they come out with every year.

Summary:
If you are wanting a fun college game with a deep dynasty mode then buy this game. Its a blast to play and looks very nice on the PS3.

"Sloppy sloppy sloppy", God where do i start. I was so geeked about ncaa 08. I love the ncaa football series and its annual july release is something to look forward to. Well, that was until this summer. I even went and bought a PS3 in giddy anticipation for madden and ncaa. I wish i hadnt wasted my 60 bucks on this paperweight.
First thing, no create-a-school. Why would EA drop this feature? These developers are more worried about motion capture i guess. The absolute WORST thing about this game, by far, is the AI in campus legend mode. Jesus Christ i almost broke my controller in frustration. See, in legend mode, first of all, is that terrible close-zoom first person view where you only control your guy. Second, the computer picks your plays. and by "plays" i mean like 3. three! i swear to christ it chooses only 3 plays over and over again. sometimes, it calls the same WR screen twice in a row...on 3rd and long! its HORRIBLE and whoever OK`d this GARBAGE should be FIRED from EA. i owned this game for 3 days and hawked it for 20 bucks. what a nightmare.
I still play my PS2 NCAA 07 on my PS3. Comments on my waste of $600 ill save for another time.

"NCAA Turnovers 08", After my fourth fumble of the half despite protecting the ball I pulled this piece of junk out of my ps3 and took as hammer to it. I have never seen even the most fumble prone backs fumble that many times in a whole game. I went back to the ps2 game. My receiver would beat his man deep by 5 yards, I would very lightly tap the button to throw a bomb with some air under it, but no, the stupid game throws a bullet right into the beaten DB's hands every other time. The graphics are great, but the all important gameplay is 50 times better on 05,07,08 for the ps2. Where's create a team EA? I hated this game

"Dust off NCAA 04.", Horrible attempt on improving the Franchise. I have been liking this game series less and less as it progresses toward a simulator instead of a game. The recruiting on this game is ridiculous. You can spend 30 minutes between each game and an hour at the end a season. 6 hours of recruiting in one season is too much and if you leave it up to the computer your draft classes can suck. Why isn't this game in 1080i or 1080p?

There are features missing that were in previous versions.

O-Line shift is missing, but the defense can still shift so you are at a disadvantage on offense.

Custom Playbook...this is not an option and there are like 400 plays, but half of them are play action so they are useless 80 percent of the time. I should be able to make my own playbook.

Formation subs...can no longer make permanent formation subs, such when you have two good running backs or want to use your fastest linebacker on nickel and dime.

Campus Challange...is missing and you really need the fumble cards.

A season mode would be nice for those times you just want to play a season with a team that you know you don't want to use in a dynasty.

Don't buy this game unless it is used. Be prepared for turnovers and injuries.

"Best NCAA game ever and still terrible", There are a lot of great things about this game but I am going to just focus on the things that are wrong. First of all, every linebacker is Ray Lewis and can pick off a pass that comes within fingertip reach of them. That however, is just a mere annoyance. The more glaring turnover issue is that someone failed to tell EA Sports that the ground cant cause a fumble. Time and time again your QB will get sacked (more on that later) and will tumble head over heals 6 times before losing the football while the guy who sacked him who is now 10 yards ahead of anyone on your team will scoop is up and take it to the house. I have seen this repeated multiple times in a single game and occurs probably 8-15 times per season.

Meanwhile, the words "pass", "playaction" and "blocking" can not be used in the same sentence. Even if you change your snap count which supposedly is supposed to make it hard for the D-line to jump your snap it doesnt matter, you will get sacked on playacion 50% of the time you do it before you even turn to be able to throw. Meanwhile, if you drop back to pass all you need to do on defense to stop a pass is blitz 2+ guys and you will get to the quarterback with ease. Blitzing is so effective its a wonder the snap doesnt get intercepted. Meanwhile, campus legend mode, which is a great concept is still flawed. Since you cant control anyone but your own character you get to watch while your running back takes the ball, decides he cant gain yardage going forward, so he turns around and runs backwards 5 yards then turns trying to find a hole but instead gets taken down 10 yards behind the LOS.

Injuries also happen at a rediculous rate. A hip pointer will not keep someone out for 9 weeks. Neither will having the wind knocked out of you keep you out for a game. Not only are the injuries rediculous, but they happen with such frequency that it alone can ruin the game. In one game i lost 3 running backs, 2 recievers, a tight end, a D-tackle and my quarterback.

a potentially great game that is ruined by poor execution.
