"Got the new Falcon!" I've heard a lot of different opinions from different people about whether the new Falcons are really that much better than the old iterations of the 360, but just newing that I have the newest version makes me feel a bit more secure.
I chose the Xbox 360 over the PS3 because it seems like every good game I'm interested in either comes out for Xbox 360 first, or comes out for 360 exclusively. That, and hearing that 360s have begun to outsell PS3s in Japan makes me think this system on the whole is better. And besides that, as a long-time PC gamer who's purchasing his first console since the Sega Genesis (which was an awesome console), I find that the 360 reminds me more of a computer, and interfaces better with a computer.
The 120GB hard drive has already begun to come in handy with downloading demos, extra songs for Rock Band 2, and basically anything I want. It's nice knowing that with such a large drive, I'm not likely to run out of space anytime soon.
I certainly wouldn't say that the PS3 sucks, but for me, the choice was the 360.
"xbox elite. a sexy console." I definitely recommend this product over the core or pro versions. With the new xbox experience, you are going to need space to store all of your game demos, videos, and arcade games. Also it just looks extremely nice. It has that WoW factor that you get when friends come to your house. If you are wondering whether or not to get a xbox this holiday season, i say do it. it the best investment and great gaming opportunity out there!
"Sweet Deal" I got this and 13 month xbox live card all for $399. Awesome system i already had an xbox 360 pro, and bought this for the extra hard drive space and of course the main reason was because it was black.
"XBOX 360 Elite Rules" I bought this for my son's 13th birthday and he loves it. He is able to enjoy the games with his friends from school and I don't need to have a house full of kids. Thank you Microsoft.

What our customer's say!
"Awesome!", Just a great system!! Has the games that I enjoy playing. I do prefer the 360 controller as opposed to the PS3, that's just me. So after having the console for over a year, I enjoyed playing it more with the recent games that came out. Not to mention the update on the dashboard. A little kiddie for my taste but the layout is straight forward. Flipping through the tabs are much crisper too.
Overall, a great system to have with a lot of cool features. Xbox LIVE is a great experience to play with fellow gamers online. The addition of streaming movies through NetFlix is a plus. I have tried it and the quality is dvd-like. I haven't bought into the HD movie as of yet since I have a ton of dvd library invested that I just don't see the point of me buying HD-DVD or Blue Ray.
"Ring Of Death in 10 MINUTES", Got this POS hooked up and as soon as I finished the initial setup the thing bricked on me. Called Microsoft and they want me to send it in and wait 2 to 4 weeks for them to repair it (and I've heard it takes even longer than that). So basically they want me to pay full price for a refurb that will likely take a month (or more) to get back. NO THANKS! I'm returning it to Amazon for credit and getting a PS3. I thought about trying to get another one but I'm not going to take the risk of getting screwed again. Amazon is being GREAT about returning it. I talked myself into thinking that all the ring of death stuff I was hearing about wouldn't happen to me. Well it did and in only about 10 minutes! Don't think it won't happen to you!
"Xbox 360 vs PS3", I have owned an Xbox 360 Xbox 360 Elite System Console Includes 120GB Hard Drive for over a year and a PS3 Playstation 3 80GB for several months. This review is a short comparison. I prefer playing games on either console over my PC.
Xbox 360 Pros: - more games available - prefer the controller (not a major difference) Cons: - unable to play Blu-ray movies - concerned about red ring of death - produces so much heat that I cannot use it in summer (it is like a space-heater) - the loud fan is annoying - there is a fee for multi-player
PS3 Pros: - plays Blu-ray HD movies - produces much less heat - quiet - free multi-player Cons: - not as many games available yet - prefer the Xbox controller
I generally prefer the PS3 by a wide margin. Unfortunately, at this time, one almost needs both to play the best games.
My suggestion to Microsoft is to include a Blu-ray player, fix the red ring of death, improve the hardware so that it uses less energy & is quiet, and make multi-player free.
My suggestion to Sony is to improve the design of the controller and make more games available.
"Wait for the Jasper!", This is my third XB360. I had two 20GB versions and recently upgraded to this Elite model. My first console died (RROD) and was promptly replaced by the retailer (Amazon). My second console lasted fourteen months before it died (again, the dreaded RROD). Microsoft repaired it free of charge. However, it did not have HDMI output, so I sold it after Microsoft returned it to me. I bought this Elite last month (October, 2008) to have the bigger drive, but more importantly, to be able to use HDMI.
The XB360 offers a lot of entertainment. I do not play first-person shooters, but I do enjoy Japanese-made games like Eternal Sonata and Soul Calibur IV. I also purchase and download various digital content from the Marketplace. Being a member of Netflix, I look forward to being able to stream video content directly to my XBox. The latter feature will become available next week to users who have a Gold membership with XBox Live. You have to purchase a Gold membership in order to be able to use this feature. For me, this will be worth it. I love movies and being able to stream the video to my console will be a blessing. Just bear in mind that you need a FAST internet connection for this service to work for you.
Why did I make the choice to pay extra for this bundle? Because of the 120GB HD and the included HDMI cable. The Pro and the Arcade packages do not include an HDMI cable. I recommend this package to you if you purchase a lot of digital content from the Marketplace. The extra hard drive space is a blessing. The included HDMI cable also comes in handy if you have an HDTV. Now, having said that, most people will probably be happy with the Pro bundle. The Pro bundle is fine if all you want to do is save games and download movies (the movies "expire", so you will have no reason to keep it on your hard drive). I don't really recommend the Arcade though, since it does not come with a hard drive. In my view, you need that hard drive to fully enjoy what this console has to offer.
The newest XBox consoles are being made with a new motherboard and chipset, called the Jasper. Supposedly, this new design is less likely to suffer from the dreaded RROD (Red Ring of Death), which is basically the common term for hardware failure. The Jaspers are designed to operate at a lower temperature and therefore, will have less tendency to overheat. The Jaspers are also designed to be more energy efficient, using less power than the previous models. And, I have read, that they are also quieter. Perhaps the disc drive has been improved, and also because cooler operation means that the fans do not have to spin as fast.
Unfortunately for me, my console came with the older Falcon chipset. My console was manufactured back in February 2008! Basically, my console was already 8-months old when it came to me, brand new! My advice to you is to wait until the supply of the Falcon consoles have dried up before you purchase an XBox. As you know by now, the XBox 360 is notorious for having one of the highest failure rates in a modern consumer electronics product. If you were to purchase an XBox today, the chances are that you will get one with a Falcon chip, not the newer Jasper. Jasper production supposedly started two months ago. But as you know, most retailers will try to move out old inventory first (FIFO, in accounting terms for those of us who have taken an accounting class in college!). If you want to be reasonably assured of a reliable console, my suggestion is to wait until Spring. Also, you might increase your chances of getting a Jasper if you buy the other bundles (Pro and Arcade), as they seem to be selling faster than the Elite. The faster an SKU is selling, the higher the likelihood that all of the Falcon units have been sold off.
XBox 360 or PS3? I recommend getting both. If you are serious about playing video games, you really should have both. I'm planning to get a Wii as soon as they become available here at Amazon.
What if you could only have one, which should you get?
The XBox, if you subscribe to Netflix, you don't mind paying for a Gold membership at XBox Live, and you have a fast internet connection. Also, if you like first-person shooters. The XBox has a bigger library of games at the moment, having had a one year head start on the PS3.
The PS3, if you have an HDTV and would like to experience Blu-Ray. By the way, Netflix do rent out DVDs in the Blu-Ray format if you like getting your movies through the mail. The PS3, admittedly, is a more reliable console and not likely to suffer from hardware failure. So if you do not have the patience to deal with tech support people, you might want to go with this route.
I cannot comment on the Wii since I have no experience with it. But it is selling like hot cakes. Nintendo must be doing something right!
In any case, I recommend the XBox 360 Elite to anyone who needs the hard drive space and HDMI connectivity. Also, the all-black design helps the console blend in better with your typical audio/video set up, in terms of aesthetics.
"I'm the Mom and I love it!", I bought the Elite because my brother has one and he loves all of the cool online gaming you can do. I got mine so that we could share games. Well, it has been just a great machine. My husband is medically retired and plays driving games on it with the steering wheel option. My two kids play old Xbox games and some of the Xbox 360 games on it. I prefer role playing games. This poor machine works it's rear end off in our house. I have had it for 1 year now with no problems.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"I'll play LIVE for Five hours a day......and never get tired", I already have 10 xbox 360 games and I luv the Elite console. I put a Turbo cooler fan on the back and I let the fan run for five minutes even after I turn the console off. This should extend the life of my Xbox 360 Elite. There's an abundance of cutting edge technology games being released in these next three or four months, so this was definately the right time to go Xbox 360.
"my pc has a 500 gig drive", Why did I just pay this much money for a PC with worse controls, much simpler games, and fewer functions?
I'm really disappointed in myself. I thought I should bite the bullet and get a console, but this thing is terrible. I already have a computer, dammit! All the good games for this system are already out on PC, and when you use a mouse, you don't have to rely on auto aim to compensate for the crap controls.
Check eBay. Mine will be cheap.
"A-1 Entertainment", As most of us with children know, it can sometimes be difficult to have little ones focus on one thing for an extended period of time.
Forget about that with this video unit. It's ease of use, variety of built in programming and large selection of all types of games available for purchase make this powerful unit worth 10 times the investment.
You will have to make the kids go out for exercise once you get one of these.
By the way..it's very addicting for adults too.....LOL.
A quality item from Microsoft.
"Awesome", I've had the 360 Elite since October 2007, and its up and running.
The best part of the 360 is Xbox Live, and it's huge library of games. 45 bucks are worth every penny, when it comes to Xbox Live.
There's a new thing coming, called the "New Xbox Experience", which is a major update that will go on Live this Fall. So i would recommend that right now is the perfect time to purchase this console.
"Great console, nearly infinite entertainment at this point", Games, games, games.
The Xbox 360 has the broadest selection of games and the most highly-rated, or AAA, titles. A quick look at Metacritic will point any core gamer in the right direction. Achievements are supported in every game and really add some fun/cohesion to the gaming experience. Many great titles are also heavily discounted at this point, and the Platinum Hits collection is certainly worth a look.
Xbox Live Arcade has an equivalent "Arcade Hits" program with great games at a low price. Puzzle Quest at $10 is worth a particular mention. The XBLA version is not only the best version of the game, but it is also the cheapest, as Puzzle Quest on the other platforms runs $20-$30. Even with the XBLA-exclusive expansion pack added-on, it will be under $20.
Casual gamers are worth a mention in regards to this console. From what I have observed, the 360 is very friendly to casual gamers as well. Puzzle games (such as the aforementioned Puzzle Quest), board games, and card games are all readily available on Xbox Live Arcade. They are cheap, fun, and great for casual gamers. Retail titles such as Viva Pinata and Banjo Kazooie are huge games that many people enjoy. The upcoming Xbox Live Primetime looks to be a boon for game show fans with the allurement of weekly shows and real-world prizes.
Media is another topic to examine. I personally consider this console a gaming machine first and foremost. It can be enjoyed to the fullest without ever watching a movie or TV show. However, media is certainly an added bonus and I have no doubt that many people use the 360 heavily for media purposes. There is a huge selection of movies, music videos, and TV shows on the Marketplace. The Netflix integration will provide thousands upon thousands of movies/TV shows available for watching any time, for free (with Netflix subscription of course - $8.95 per month), with no commercials.
Lastly, I will give a quick mention to the RRoD. I don't like having to mention it because the whole thing has been so overblown that it seems like I'll just be talking to a brick wall anyways. The RRoD has been a wonderful target for games journalists (to garner website hits) and especially rival console devotees ("fanboys"). The latter in particular love to perpetuate the RRoD to no end, posting comments about being on their "sixth" Xbox 360, or claiming that they know many people, all of which have had multiple failures. The actual situation is no where near as bleak as one might suppose from all the attention given to it. With the new chipsets there is only a very slim chance of experiencing a failure, and this would most likely be after at least a year. In such a case, let the 3 year warranty handle that and pay $0 for a smooth repair in which a prepaid box is shipped out to collect it. Also, perhaps 2 months after this review date, any consoles purchased will be the next chipset (Jasper), which will take the chance of RRoD down from maybe 3% to 0.001%.
In short: Buy the console, it is worth every penny, and won't be regretted.
