"Reunion - The Software for any Macintosh Computer"
I am just starting to use but as promised have found that is easy to use and provides a very easy way to put information about your family tree into very readable and organized way for others to understand. Which is great but it also allows you to edit and see the connections on screen before printing out a hard copy. It allows you to import and export GEDCOM files which is important when working with others on family history. The ability to include photographs is also a plus. If you are looking for a software program for genealogy and are using a Macintosh computer this the program to have in your hands. The best part is the company only produces it for the Macintosh and has kept their focus to one computer platform. If you like the ease of working with a computer that is user friendly like the Macintosh this program pushes all the right buttons. It is very user friendly just like the Macintosh.

"nice interface, well-imagined program"
I bought Reunion because I needed a way to be able to see and add to my recently deceased grandmother's substantial PAF file on my Mac. Reunion is a lovely program, and much easier to move around in than PAF (which I find cumbersome and clunky, although necessary for LDS genealogists). I recommend the program for people in my same situation.

"You sometimes get what you pay for"
Jimmy Dean's grandpa said it years ago, and it's true here too. The only serious negative I have found with Reunion 9 is it's cost, but "you sometimes get what you pay for." It was true with Jimmy Dean's sausage and it's true with genealogy software for the Mac. After I got over the pain in my pocket book, it's been wonderful ever since. Go ahead, you know you want it. Get it.

Like many folks, I came from the Darkside and started with Family Origins, switched to Family Tree Maker, didn't like it and went back to FO, then when FO sold the farm to FTM, I changed to PAF. On coming to the Lightside, I started looking for Mac genealogy and tried about everything out there that didn't cost $100. I tried all I could find including Ohana's new product that lock steps with New Family Search. I tried them and finally bit the credit card and bought Reunion, and I haven't had an unhappy moment since.

I have used Reunion an average of eight hours a day for the past month, and the only time I communicated with anyone was to see if I had missed being able make entries in Pedigree format. I hadn't, all entry is done in Family view, but there is an Overview feature that provides a pedigree view from where you are in your tree, and you can double-click on a person in Overview and it takes you right to the Family card.

As far as having to communicate with anyone regarding how to do anything, including highly technical stuff, I haven't needed to, the Manual is that good.

Five stars, folks. Quit wasting your time and buy it. If you are not convinced, download a trial copy and check it out for yourself. I did that, but I purchased it form Amazon because I like the way they do business.

"Satisfied with purchase"
Add me to those who are satisfied with this software. I find it easy to navigate and easy to enter data. With a little time investment you can learn a few shortcuts to enter data even faster. It prints results in many different formats and exports data as mentioned. I like the report of how each person is related to you. I'm happy I went with Reunion 9.

"So far, so good"
I'm just getting started compiling genealogical data from several sources into Reunion and, so far, it seems remarkably intuitive. I haven't yet tried to integrate images, but the advertised capabilities of this software are impressive, and to date the claims have proven true. I have also purchased the Reunion app for my iPhone, though I haven't tried synching them yet.

What our customer's say!

"Super Software!!!", I am very pleased with this genealogy software. It is very easy to learn and use. It has helped greatly in organizing my genealogy material. I highly recommend this software.

"Great Product!", Reunion is a terrific program! It's intuitive and creates all the reports and graphics anyone could want. I wish that Mac products were as cost effective as those for PCs.

"meh.... not awful but not great either", if you want a mac computer, you are stuck with very very limited choices on genealogy programs.
having used PC genealogy programs for 10 years, i can honestly say that reunion for mac has some big big flaws.
1. it is cumbersome to use. hard to navigate, difficult to search effectively.
2. it really does not produce usable reports, especially not pedigree charts.
3. you cannot change the data fields that show up on the interface page.
4. the help manual is not user friendly, or detailed enough to be useful.
it's not horrible, but it could be a lot more useful and user friendly. if you do not know genealogy, i would not recommend starting with this program.
ifamily for leopard is better for source tracking, better for user interface, but far worse for creating decent reports and forms.

"Overpriced and Cumbersome", I've been doing genealogy on- and offline for many years, and this is my third program, from several PAF versions to several FTM versions to Reunion with a switch to Mac. I would not buy it again.
Reports are hard to format, and it seems to be geared toward graphics. For trees that go far back and don't contain a lot of graphics, I don't think this is the best choice. I want to get good reports, Good merging and checking, and easy entry. I don't want a lot of color and photos on every report (but then I'm a purist who uses a b/w laser printer for genealogy/.
Maybe with time and experience, I will like this better. I would prefer to be able to set things to bare bones, and embellish as I learn.

"VERY disappointing", I wanted and needed a program that was very user friendly because I am a stark novice, new to genealogy and not a professional. I have spent two months making a tree on Ancestry and needed software to send the tremendous amount of stuff I had accumulated.

After a lot of time spent researching genealogy software, it seems as if I was lead down the garden path once again! The reviews I read on Reunion 9 for Macs were so glowing that I said even though the price was a bit large and the OTHER reviews said it was as good as sliced bread or canned beer, I took the bait. What a waste of time and my money!

Program is tedious, NOT user friendly, extremely confusing and has a VERY steep learning curve for ones who are newbies. The software mfgr should warn folks who are new to the family history game about the learning curve! I guess they just assume all who buy this piece of junk know all about data entry and such for family trees! There are some of us who DO NOT and it would be nice to be warned before hand! The price is way way over the top and overall not good value! My dislikes are so many I can't list em all! But one GLOWING complaint- no delete function for wrong entries! You gotta open a clipboard and navigate this to delete an entry! Where is the "save as" button? You gotta be joking!
Did I mention NO paper instruction book? They want you to PRINT your own, and it is LONG too! Guess printer ink and paper costs are best left to us unsuspecting customers! Thanks a lot!

I have been diligently trying to figure out this program for three days and have given up in disgust!
Hard to believe this is a MAC program! It will now sit on my hard drive unused till I decide to take it off and give it to my grand kids in around fifty years IF anyone in my family ever becomes interested in genealogy.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROGRAM TO ANYONE WHO IS NEW OR HATES STEEP LEARNING CURVES!

"reunion software", I have been using the Reunion software now for about two weeks and find it very user friendly. It is very easy to move around from place to place, make corrections, and go back and make additions to something already worked on. I would highly recommend it to any Mac user.

"Dissapointing!!", Waste of money. Program is so dated, very tedious, confusing, boring and bland. Hard to believe this is a MAC program. Price is way over the top and overall not good value. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE.
I bought IFAMILY FOR LEOPARD-that gets a definite WOW from me.
Don't waste your money on Reunion, buy ifamily for leopard.

"Very solid (from an admitted amateur)", Caveat: I am relatively new to genealogy and not as well versed in the other software. I also only have a Mac so my software selection was limited.
That being said, I am very pleased with Reunion 9. I have an lot of family data readily available (multiple bound volumes heading down multiple lines) and I have an eventual eye on putting it all into an electronic format so I wanted a very solid and sophisticated program. I also wanted a program that was generally easy to use but not at the expense of functionality.
Reunion is quite easy to use. It comes with a manual (electronic) and tutorial that helps you get started. Some of the options seem a bit odd at first but after some practice and more experience, it becomes clear how they fit in. It is clear that the writers of this system are versed in complicated family trees. I did get prompt and helpful customer service when I had questions about the best way to integrate 2 large already-completed family trees. I am impressed with the lovely reports and they way it quickly sorts through loads of data to make it understandable.
Other amateurs should note that the program (and, indeed, probably no program) will be able to substitute for careful attention to detail. I was hoping that whatever software I bought would be able to somehow magically know if a "John Smith" was the same John Smith in another branch of the tree. This is practically impossible barring some gift like birthdates that happen to match in both. Reunion can easily merge records (if, indeed, the two Johns end up being the same), so it makes fixing those issues painless. It can also do a lot to flag potential duplicates. You, however, need to make sure it's all accurate.
Overall, I'm pleased.

"Disappointing", Since I didn't have the time to test all the Mac genealogy applications available, I went for the most expensive one thinking that it would also be the best one. Well, Reunion 9 might be the best application for Mac, but when I saw Family Tree Builder for PC (which is free), I regret not having a PC.

Reunion 9 has a nice interface and it is easy to navigate, but it still needs some polishing (after 9 versions!). Clicking on a table does not let you edit it, (source) lists are sometimes missing scroll bars, drag and drop is very limited and clumsy, chart editing is rather primitive, and adding information about a marriage is simple ... if you know you have to click on a hidden button. There are tens of configurable options that I've never used, and the ones I need are missing.

And worst of all: there is no UNDO button!. Make a mistake and, if you are not able to reconstruct it, there goes your database.

Reunion 9 would be a nice application if it was free, but for $99 I feel very disappointed.
Add to this all the missing features available in Family Tree Builder (multiple languages, maps, and above all, automatic search of relatives) and you get the picture.

My advice: get something else.

"Review of Reunion 9", I have been using Family Tree Maker on a Windows machine for as long as 15 years. Although I was very used to it and satisfied with it, I find that Reunion beats it hands-down with the additional benefit that I no longer need to use two computers.
