"Go get 'em, Red", Working with a near perfect balance of action, humor and charm, the first of the Hellboy series to reach the big screen is a highly entertaining flick. While Ron Perlamn's effective performance as the gruff but warm hearted red monster centers the film, he is surrounded by a phalanx of supporting actors that give "Hellboy" its broadened success.

In particular, John Hurt as Hellboy's father figure caretaker, Dr Bloom, exudes a strong intelligence and sense of purpose to avoid his character being a scientist cardboard cutout. Rupert Evans plays a befuddles new handler, newly exposed to the top-secret paranormal agency that Hellboy dwells in. Add some angry Nazis and one p-o'd rasputin who want to destroy the world, and you have a firecracker of a fun film.

Written and directed by Guillermo Del Toro, the script pops at all the right moments all while adding character touches. The action sequences are a rollercoaster of thrill and scare (and the box of kittens is a hoot), along with a terrific visual sense. Even Jeffrey Tambor's sourpuss gets a good lesson in accepting the unusual before the film ends. For fans of the resurgent comic book movie genre, "Hellboy" hits all the right notes.


"A Blast to watch!", This movie is a lot of fun. The picture quality is top notch as well. The sound on a good system will blow you away!!

"Pleasantly surprised", The picture quality was very good although better in Hellboy 2. The audio used the surrounds often but once again Hellboy 2 made even better us of the surrounds. After watching this I decided to get Hellboy 2 and I'm glad I did. They are both enjoyable movies

"One of the best looking blu ray discs out there - and a good movie", I love Hellboy. I have it on dvd. But this blu-ray is how it needs to be seen. The picture is stunning. I would call this blu-ray "demo quality". If you want to show off your high def set up, pop this blu-ray disc in. The sound is great too. But man, that picture. If you are a fan of this film and have it on dvd, and have a hi def blu-ray set up but aren't sure you want to buy this movie again... don't worry, it's worth it.

"Hellboy is one great movie.", Hellboy (Director's Cut) is one rollercoaster ride and an unexpectedly good movie. Ron Perlman is great as the lead character and the images of the Cthulhu creatures are very realistic. This 3 disc special edition contains a new film cut of 13 minutes of footage not seen in the original version.
Hellboy is a creature brought into our world by the Nazi's. He is raised by a scientist and now works for a secret government agency that takes down paranormal activity. His love interest is a young lady (played by Selma Blair) who is a firestarter. All hell breaks loose when Rasputin (the man that brought Hellboy into our world) returns to capture Hellboy and open a rift that will unlease the Apocalypse on an unexpecting world.

"A good idea that's poorly executed", At the end of WW2, Hitler attempts to open the gateway to Hell in order to bring back a weapon that will allow him to win the war. He is stopped by the Allies, but while the gate is open, a baby demon, Hellboy (Ron Perlman), comes through. 60 years later, Hellboy, who has been raised by the Allies and is now fighting on the side of good, must go up against the people who brought him to earth in the first place and stop them from bringing about the Apocalypse.

"Hellboy" is a really great idea for a film that is let down by its poor execution. The idea of a demon fighting for good has so much potential, as does the idea of him having a pyrokinetic girlfriend (played by Selma Blair), and as with all Guillermo del Toro films, this one is also visually stunning, but once I got over the initial "wow" factor of the special effects, I soon realized that the plot is pretty thin, the characters are boring and the good ideas are underdeveloped (I thought it was criminal that Liz, the pyrokinetic girl, should really only use her powers about once in the whole film). The ending is also a major let-down. It just isn't big enough for what went before it and my father, who saw the film with me, actually said "that's it?!" when the credits started to roll.

Although I haven't seen it yet, I have heard that "Hellboy 2" is an improvement on this film, which doesn't surprise me, considering the fact that, after a film this disappointing, the only way to go is up.


"Action, oh yes, but it's a love story.", When you meet our hero, you should be shocked, but his character melts you, as he plays a charming soul. The action is different, but never the less required to give this film an edge, and the end can only ever be done in this movie, cool yet hot.
Nope the guys won't see the romance, just the well hard action, but you girls will see his soft side, and oddly admire him.
If you want a SCI FI film with a difference even a bit of, should I say cuteness?! He could be your hellish hero too.
Always worth a watch, just see him get love advice from a kid on a roof.

"Great Fantasy Movie", Love this movie. Ron Perlman is great as Hellboy. Can't wait to buy the second movie in this series.

" Good And Dark, This Superhero Movie Is Not For Kids", It is a well made movie with a good and hellish storyline. But it is too dark to be family viewable, discretion is advised. If you like the gene, devils and monsters, it is a great movie.
