"Quick question about a song"
I was just wondering if someone could help me identify the name of a song. What song intro is played (in harmonica) when right before Shrek and Artie's heart to heart chat by the campfire? It's the one merlin queues with his nightlight when he tries to set the mood. I think it's from the seventies. It plays at about 47:04. I would REALLY appreciate it if someone could get back to me. Thanks so much

Sam

"my 3 year old daughter LOVES it"
My 3 year old asks every day for her "Shrek music". Great tunes, very entertaining to pre-schooler and parents alike.

"Nothing beats the original"
The original Shrek Soundtrack was the best soundtrack ever. I still listen to it and it has a permanent slot in my car's cd player. The 2nd soundtrack blew. The 3rd? Eh. I haven't bothered. 9 Crimes by Damien Rice, however, is a great song. The woman singing in it is Lisa Hannigan and the song is available as a CD single and as one of the tracks on his "9" CD.

"A disaster of Soundtrack... For such a funny and entertaining movie!"
How can you mix in one album, a new "Barracuda" version by Fergie, with Led Zeppelin's "The Immigrant Song" and McCartney+Wings superhit "Live And Let Die"... In addition, with a weird version of Sly and The Family Stone's megahit "Thank You (Falletin Be Mice Elf Agin)", this time sung (?) by Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas???...
Whew, this people in DreamWorks are great in making this animated series of movies about Shrek, an ogre that makes a continuous effort on being unpleasant to everyone, but with a certainly funny attitude... But in making soundtracks, DreamWorks music producers certainly made an OGRE one with this CD...!!!!

"For retro rockers.... only."
These tracks may have worked as snippets in the movie, but in their entirety bereft of images, they're a bit tedious, unless of course you're Wayne;-)

What our customer's say!

"Reason for omission of "9 Crimes"", I agree with a previous reviewer about the omission of "9 Crimes" by Damien Rice. The song has explicit lyrics, and the producers may have felt it was an inappropriate choice. However, why they chose to keep it in the movie we can only guess! I got the song from iTunes. Beautiful!

"FYI", Just so you know i think the reason why 9 Crimes wasn't included in the soundtrack was because of the lyrics. It's a kids movie remember. The lyrics talk about cheating and uses the analogy of a gun and how the reciprocated offense is like pulling the trigger and if it's Alright to do the same. It's a beautiful yet very sad song. I don't think Dreamworks would care if you chose to find that song elsewhere yourself. Then again, the artist may appreciate it more if you go out and get his CD.

"Good but a bit disappointed", This is good overall. But, where is 9 crime as other people asking the same thing? It is not included!! I am a bit disappointed in that.

"A Tragedy That 9 Crimes Isn't On It", The Shrek soundtracks are always fantastic because they include every amazing song from the movies. This soundtrack is fun with a definitive retro flare, but the the fact that Damien Rice's "9 Crimes" (from one of the most touching sequences of scenes in the movie) is missing leaves a gaping hole!

"Thanks Reviewers", I like the songs that are on here, but I have to agree with the other reviewers. Why was 9 crimes left off? I heard it in the movie and LOVED it,so I got the soundtrack looking for it, but it wasn't there! Then I read the reviews and looked up 9 crimes, and it was the song I had heard and loved. Thanks fellow reviewers!

"Not As Good As The First 2 CD's", The CD is good, but in my opinion, it's not as good as the first 2 Shrek movie CD's.

"4 and a half stars!!", The soundtrack to Shrek the third, like it's predecessors, features a diverse array of artists. While not as good as the first (which was brilliant - by the way, to the other reviewer, it DID have Rufus Wainwright singing "Hallelujah" on it, I have the cd), this is still very good. Having not seen the movie yet (so I don't know what was omitted), and having already owned "9 crimes" by Damien Rice (on his "9" album) whose omission bothered most, I'm writing my review based on the music on the cd.

Appearing again (he's been on all 3 soundtracks) is Eels, opening with the upbeat "Royal pain", and appearing again the sunny but merlancholic "Losing streak".

Black Eyed Pea Fergie does a chugging version of the Heart rocker "Barracuda". "Best days" by Matt White is sunny and upbeat, the choppy rocker "Joker and the thief" by Wolfmother (with wailing vocals), the jangly, midtempo "Other ways" by Trevor Hall (great voice), and "What I gotta do" is a soulful ballad by Macy Gray (also featured on her superb new CD "Big").

We get the singing donkey again, Eddie Murphy (with Antonio Banderas), on a remake of the funky Sly & The Family Stone hit "Thank You (Falletin Me Be Mice Elf Again)". "Final showdown" is a showtune like piano ballad by Maya Rudolph and Rupert Everett, and "Charming's plan" is a sweeping cinematic instrumental by Harry Greggson-Williams.

Some oldies show up; "Immigrant song" by Led Zeppelin, "Live & let die" by Wings, "Do You Remember Rock 'N' Roll Radio?" by The Ramones, and the lovely "Cats in the cradle" by Harry Chapin.

Good, 4 and a half stars really!

"Thanks to other reviewers", This is not so much a review, but a message to the folks who compiled this soundtrack. After seeing the movie, the song I most wanted was the Damien Rice song 9 Crimes. Why on earth was it left off of the CD? I wouldn't have even known what the song was if it weren't for other reviewers, whom I would like to thank for the information about the song and for saving me the money. I will purchase the Damien Rice CD, but I will not purchase this soundtrack, at least not at full price. I'll wait until I find it in the cheap bin at the local record shop.

"Don't buy", Music sucks the first 2 movie soundtracks had good music but i don't heir one on this cd.

"Not really a review...", This isn't so much a new review as a correction of Amazon's Editorial Review. I just didn't know where else to put it.

The original Shrek soundtrack did feature the song "Hallelujah", but it was not by Rufus Wainwright, rather the song was originally written by Leonard Cohen and the version on the soundtrack was a cover by John Cale (The Velvet Underground).

As for this soundtrack, it's very good and the music was used quite well in the film.
