Others say...
"just a little short" Just about everything a shooter should be, good graphics, good story line, good weaponry, but really seemed short on the number or length of missions compared to other games in that price range. Even at the hardcore level it moves along rather quickly; not that I wanted the game play to be more difficult, I just felt like it was the shortest game to date.
"Horrible game" the game is horrible because you cant talk online and the weapon-aming system is also horrible, you cant zoom in realisticly, instead, a circle with a reticule just pops out...story line is boring
"Incredibly Nonsensical" Frontlines is, without a doubt, one of the most frustratingly bad games I've seen for the XBOX 360. Most of the problems stem from lackluster level design and a complete lack of logic in the game world.
For example, vehicles have a tendency to appear from nowhere at designated spawn points. They are not moved airlifted into position, they just "pop" into existence. I cannot remember the last time I was as frustrated with a game as when one of these suddenly appeared and crushed me beneath it.
Characters in this game tend to absorb ridiculous numbers of bullets before being killed... even rounds from .50 cal sniper rifles which would normally cut a human being in half. It's unrealistic, frustrating, and slows the gameplay to a crawl. And when you are killed, the game gives you a finite number of extra lives with which to keep going and complete the mission. There are no in-game saves.
And yes, you read that right. We are in 2008 and there is still a game anachronistic enough to count your extra lives. This is a convention that went extinct with Wolfenstein 3D!
Vehicle controls are awful. Tank control is not entirely bad, except that a real-world M1A2 could out-perform your allegedly futuristic vehicles. The jeep controls are completely baffling, because you will always drive in the direction your turret is facing. The tanks don't suffer this handicap. Why the vehicles needed such different control schemes is beyond me.
Friendly AI is completely useless. After playing the entire single player campaign I can only recall a single instance of my allied troops killing an enemy soldier. Although you usually have half a dozen troops around you, trust me, you'll be the one doing all the work. I noticed more than one occasion in which my men seemed to magically teleport into enemy lines ahead of me. On the other hand, there were several major battles in which my supporting soldiers completely vanished, leaving me alone against dozens of enemies. (Not that they would have helped)
Level storytelling is nonexistent. In each level you are pitted against 50-100 enemy soldiers coming at you from every direction. They run around apparently at random, and have no sense of higher organization (such as squads). There is no problem-solving to be done and no deeper story beyond killing everything you see. After playing the virtuoso "Orange Box," this was a major letdown.
The cut scenes are skillfully animated, but I couldn't stand to watch them. Almost every character is a swaggering, testosterone-laden body builder attempting to look as comically macho as possible. I am convinced that anyone who watches these scenes will actually be dumber for having seen them.
There is one saving grace to "Frontlines." It is pretty to look at. Unfortunately, it takes more than that to impress me.
"Starts out quite fun... faded fairly quickly" The short story:
This is, generally speaking, a fairly fun game. It didn't really break new ground for me, though, and there are so many shooters with online capabilities already out there. The fact that they added quite a few options as far as vehicles and weapons did give it an edge up on some other online shooters but after about a month it kind of wore out for me. I've heard this from some others as well.
I'm not sure I can put my finger on exactly why the fun factor faded but part of it might be the maps. At first I liked how open some of them were and then later I started feeling like they were TOO open.
My opinion... rent it and really get into the online play before buying it.
"A very underated game. The best for Adult war gamer on the Xbox" I'm writing this review soley because I am so impress by this game I am hopeing that the producers will make more maps available, I would pay for new maps and maybe some follow up titles. BTW I don't work for the company that made it. Now that I got that out of the way, I would say the single player is interesting, but the Multiplayer is where Frontline Fuel of War shines. What makes this game different then the hundreds of shooters out there? Armour...Tanks, APC's Helicopter that actually once you learn the controlls are a breeze to fly and really give you a sense of helicopter combat. Then they include air and ground drones. I cannot think of any game that has this feature. Also this game is fairly good learning curve on it unlike other games like the battlefield series. I think this game is oriented to a more adult audience and it shows, it's not a run and gun like Halo3 or COD4. Large maps in oil fields and solar farms. The military equipment has a realistic look to it unlike similar games with a more "far out" astetic to there designs. To sum up, if you are looking for a realistic war game with armour, helicopter, jets, drones, emp.If You are not interested in hearing the kiddies screaming while your playing, If you want a multiplayer that is more then a speeded up crack dream then Frontlines Fuel of War is your Huckleberry. A side note, the game centers around the story of "Peak Oil" a very serious issue wa all will have to confront. I gurantee that once you get in a multiplayer match you will just be focusing on the game.

What our customer's say!
"Hardcore First Person Shooter", All I have to say is intense!!!! Having played many other shooters this one ranks with the best. From Black, to Call of Duty, to you name it. This is right up there. What impressed me the most was the intensity of the combat scenarios. Awesome job!!! Controlling the vehicles takes a bit getting use to but once you have them down you are ready to take on the Red Star Alliance and kick some ....
Great game!!!!!!
"Stray Dogs--Advance!", "Frontlines: Fuel of War" is an excellent game for the Xbox 360, otherwise known as X360 (if you didn't already know that). Let's do this in a pros and cons format, which is beginning to grow on me.
Pros: Great Graphics (playing as a Stray Dog in 2024 was incredible and utilizing all the futuristic weaponry and vehicles was VERY fun) Excellent Audio (the sounds of battle are done very realistically) Good Plot (the plot was very good but the only thing was that, for the life of me, I couldn't figure out exactly who I was playing as; there was no names and the character's attire changed from mission to mission, so I never figured out who he was and what rank he was) Fantastic Levels (there was a HUGE variety of battlefield environments and each one was brilliantly detailed and laid out)
Cons: Failure to Figure Out Character (see above) Too Short (could have been longer and the ending is kinda wierd, leaves room for a sequel, which I hope they make) Failure to Develop Plot Fully (they could have tied off all the loose ends to make the plot perfect but they didn't)
I believe that's all, pros and cons. Now that's is cheaper on Amazon [..] I suggest you get this, if you like first-person shooters and especially futuristic ones. Go, Stray Dogs!
"I love this game!", The amount of enjoyment this game has given so far blows all the other multiplayer games i have played for the 360 out of the water.
I loved Battlefield 2 for the PC and this trumps even that. Really my only big complaint so far is a bit of lag here and there on certain dedicated servers but this has already been adressed and will be fixed. Oh and a few friends and I tried Vegas 2 last night for a few hours and thats about all I could stomach...the no jump, slow as molasses, warp speed engage run effect just make Frontlines all the more appealing. Smooth multiplayer graphics but compared to the overall package that is Frontlines it is inferior.
"russians? again? oh brother....", Pros:
- standard FPS elements work well: shoot, duck, zoom in, yadda yadda, standard weapons function well
- map seems fine. stuff is were it says it is. objectives are marked.
- sound is top-notch, Battlefield: Bad Company quality.
- wide-open levels
- feels like a Battlefield type game (same dev as previous titles - but not Bad Company)
- some minor amount of destroyable environments
- drones (tiny vehicles) implemented very well. This is probably the game's one hook. The drones are a real pleasure to use (maybe the controls could be better for the rover you have to drive) and hopefully more developers will work these into their games...
- 50-player online matches
Neutral:
- no cover system, but so what
- number of re-spawns per level. Yikes, that's pretty idiotic. Especially if you plan to play this on the most difficult setting. I put this in the neutral category because it never affected me (only died a few times on the normal setting). But it's a frightening prospect if you are a noob gamer. Want to reach the very end of a level after an hour of play and have to start from the beginning?
- graphics and textures are okay. But there isn't much wow or zing here. No color or pizzazz. I realize we're in the desert much of the time, and much of the cities are bombed out ruins, but gimme something pretty to look at once in awhile.
- some minor framerate or pop-in gripes. I don't recall if page-tearing was an issue.
Cons:
- some odd engine behaviors. Step out of a tank in a certain place, it automatically blows up. Vehicles spawn in and out like that. These don't really impede progress in the game, but they are extremely goofy.
- odd enemy spawning. They seem to spawn from nowhere, sometimes right behind you.
- Halo-style vehicle controls, which is normally fine, but they work very clunky here. Often becomes awkward or impossible to back up in a vehicle, especially a tank.
- little in the way of options and customization of controls (or anything). Don't like the control scheme? Tough luck buddy.
- Cannot perform simple functions that most FPS games have, such as pick up enemy weapons, swap, etc.
- Friendly AI can't hit the broad side of a war. I think the kill ration was me: 99.99%, friendly AI: 0.01% (sometimes shooting at me or my vehicle trying to hit an enemy in front of me).
- Friendly vehicle AI can box you in sometimes. If I'm trying to move my tank, please get the hell outta my way.
- Enemy AI seems to be able to rush right out of a structure, blind fire and automatically hit you several times before you can even remotely react...
- AI in general is goofy. You'll often have enemies and squad mates running right past each other or standing right next to each other, never seeing each other, never firing.
- Very poor availability of the machine gun (my favorite). It was only available in a couple of levels from memory.
- Only 8 levels. The ones they give you are large, yes, but those are still over quite quickly, say 20-45 minutes per level (depending on your skill level). The game can be beaten in a few short hours. This is the game's KEY flaw. They probably figure the multiplayer makes up for the short campaign. They'd be wrong.
- Lack of online game mode variety.
- No offline multiplayer whatsoever. No offline co-op. What's that about?
- The story. Sure oil is a hot-button topic, but war with the Russians? Again? People need to stop recycling old bogeymen and enemies. Battlefield Bad Company (a much more fun game) also did this in 08. Of course, if you are a Republican, you'll probably love this theme (especially considering current events with Georgia), you'll be afraid of Russians (and everything that ain't just like you) and this'll be right up your alley.
"Good Game : )", This is the Xbox 360 Version. Great Video and Great Weapons. It's not to easy and not to hard to play and figure out what to do. Don't think anyone will really need a "Guide Book" to complete this game. Would recommend this game for anyone that likes the shooting class type of games.
You might need this...
Read this reviews before You buy..."Nice Idea, Bad Delivery ", When I played the demo for this game, i thought it looked awesome. The graphics where good, i like the idea of the drones, and i thought the story looked pretty complex. But once i bought the game and started playing it, i quickly became bored. Every mission all you do is capture enemy positions and blow up artillery pieces and you don't have any variety of weapons and vehicles. Not to mention the story, which is that the US and England is fighting Russia and China over the remaining oil wells, has only two characters and is very slow. And to add to that the controls suck. It would be a huge waste of money if you buy this game. And don't forget that the game is short. "Frontlines: Fuel of War", An okay game, I wish they had spent more time on the single player campaign and not relied so heavily on mulitplayer. Even though the game was based mostly off of multiplayer, it was still an enjoyable game while I had it. "Modern Warfare", Great Game. I traded this game in for a credit towards another game and now I'm missing it. I want to play the campaign again. This is one heck of a game Intense battles Great graphics Neat Storyline Awesome Weaponry This is an "own" type game you want in your library with tremendous replay value. This is a AAA game, but for some reason the game has not garnered the acclaim it should. "Great multiplayer", Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1DF99DTZIZHMX MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER --- Up to '' 50 PEOPLE '' in one game ( depending on the map ) and maps are covered with tanks and helicopters. "A front rank for Frontlines ...", I am early in my experience with the game but the quality and scope of the game are great. The action is immediate and it's hard to take a breath for the first half-hour. Graphic content was the reason i purchased an HD TV display specifically for the 360 output. Graphic quality is evident from the opening scene. Detail close to what we experienced in COD 4 does not slow the frame rate adding to the joy of the experience. WCH
