"AppleCare...a must have for laptops", I had the AppleCare plan on my Powerbook G4. The laptop was 2 years and 9 months into the warranty when the hinge loosened up. The lcd lid would wobble back and forth about an inch. Not a big deal but since I had the warranty I sent it in for repair. Three days later it came back with the hinge tightened up but a couple weeks later it was loose again. Sent it back again and this time they replaced the hinge and three days later it comes back with a new hinge. Unfortunately in transit some dirt had gotten behind the LCD panel and so back it went. This time on the fourth day I got a call from Apple saying the new replacement LCD panel was delayed and asked if I wanted to wait or accept a brand new MacBook Pro instead. It took me all of about a NY minute to make up my mind and I'm now typing this ion a brand new MBP. The initial frustration was minor compared to getting a three year newer laptop with twice the RAM and HD space and, four times the processing power.

Apple then called to say that the remainder of my AppleCare warranty on the old computer would be refunded. I don't know how their math works but I was refunded a third of the AppleCare Plan cost. As I said, I only had three months remaining. I used that refund and applied it to a new AppleCare warranty for my new MBP.

I am still amazed at the turnaround time for the repairs. Three days from my door to my door is incredible.

Three Thumbs up for AppleCare.

"AppleCare Review", If you get a Mac laptop, in my case a MacbookPro; you need the AppleCare.
Repeat, you need the AppleCare. Same goes for the iMac. I used to think you didn't need it for a tower; but I may rethink that.
My only pick this time around is that the TechTools app that comes with it does not work "completely" with the 2.6 GHz model MBP. Whatever completely means.

"AppleCare Protection Plan", Always buy this whenever I buy a laptop, since laptops have such an immense amount of micro engineering and gets a lot of mobil use. Worth every penney if anything goes wrong with the laptop. I've used AppleCare in the past and have never had a problem with them.

"A must have for laptops", I ma on my 3rd Apple laptop and AC has saved me more than what it costs with replaced Hard Drives, power supplies, disc drives and even a motherboard. I would never buy a laptop without AC.

"Great. I would recommend it for all laptop owners", This protection is a must because laptops are so vulnerable to things happening to them. In addition to physical repairs, you also get all your questions asked for three full years.

"Extends your warranty, but I'd like to see more options", Although this extends your warranty on a laptop to 3 years, it only covers parts that fail over the next few years. For $350, I'd like to seem them offer some accidental damage protection.

"AppleCare Replaced my Powerbook G4 with a new MacBook Pro", The backlight sensor on my PB G4 (2.5 years old) became defective and I sent it to Apple to fix under AppleCare. The sensor was backordered and after several weeks I called to complain that it was taking too long to fix. I spoke with a Supervisor who said that since the sensor was backordered and they could not fix the PB G4 in a timely fashion they would give me a new MacBook Pro instead. They shipped me the MacBookPro several weeks ago (latest version and not refurbished) and then they sent me my PB G4 so I could transfer the files and then after deleting files I sent the PB G4 to Apple (all shipping was at Apple's expense). I must say that I was really impressed.

"Good Deal if You Get $49.00 Off the Regular Price", Amazon is the only place I have found where you can get a discount on the Apple extended warranty. So if you are interested in getting an extended warranty for your MacBook Pro, this is the best deal you will find.

"Essential, yes... but good luck getting through...", I agree that, although expensive, this is a great service to know you have three years of protection and phone support. Here's the problem. I've needed the support and have three times waited over 45 minutes on hold before finally hanging up in frustration. The one time I did get through I was told the issue needed to be handled by a higher level tech. Fair enough, but they just put me back into another loop -- another 35 minutes before I finally hung up. Get it together Apple, "it just works" is supposed to be your thing...
