"Nice option for older equipment"
If you have older musical equipment with a MIDI physical interface and want to connect it to your current computer, this is an excellent option. It is very compact, scarcely larger than just the cables, and the activity lights are a very useful option.

If you don't have current equipment with MIDI connectors, however, you probably won't need this. Most newer electronics will support the MIDI protocol via a USB or Firewire interface.

"The PERFECT Midi solution"
If you're in need of a well-made, easy-to-use Midi Interface, look no further than the E-MU EM8180. It works. Period.

Currently I am using Logic Pro on a PowerMac Dual 1.8 G5 with 2GB of RAM. Previously I'd composed music on a Sony Vaio, which utilized a totally different Midi Interface connector. Obviously I needed a USB-powered Midi device for my Mac, and immediately found the E-MU EM8180 on Amazon. Very simple, very easy to hook-up, and begins working right away.

Highly recommended.

"Better price than compeditors"
This MIDI interface is priced much lower than any other competitor I have found. Works well, and is plug-n-play on most OS. Would have liked to see cable gauge a bit heavier on the din-connector end, but this does no seem to affect performance. Good product for a Good price.

This basic midi interface works great. I used it to connect my E-Mu Proteus keyboard with my Mac. The connecting cables are long enough to give you some flexibility with placement of whatever it is you're connecting.

"This really wasn't what I thought it was....", Well it was but it wasn't it doesn't do exactly what I thought it would do I wanted this to try to pull recorded music off my Yamaha keyboard but instead it only hooks up to a computer to record new music that you play not prerecorded stuff that you already played.

I am running Windows Vista and did not have any trouble with the drivers. I use Finale and did not have to do anything to the settings for the MIDI input to be recognized. This is a great product.

"Nifty way to drive & receive MIDI signals from USB port", The cable provided a nifty way to drive and accept MIDI signals when you only have a USB port on your computer. I did notice a bit of lag in the action when pressing a key on the Roland MIDI keyboard and then hearing the sound from the speakers on the computer. But considering that I had no other method at hand for using MIDI with my computer it works pretty good.

"worked perfectly first time", I plugged it into my Yamaha PSR - 340 keyboard, then into my Mac computer and started playing and recording instantly. It works every time. And it works great with Mac's Garage Band. Of course it works, that's the joy of a Mac and the new leopard system. Sorry to all you who went with Vista.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Gets the job done.", This little guy does exactly what I need it to. It takes my electric keyboard (any keyboard with a MIDI in/out will do) and seamlessly connects it to my computer and turns it into a MIDI controller. I give it a five-star review because it is hassle-free and latency-free. If you're looking for something with a few more bells and whistles, or you need multiple MIDI outs, then this isn't for you. But if you're like me and you need a cheap, yet effective, way of using MIDI...THIS IS IT!

p.s. Just in case you didn't read it in all the other reviews you need to put the ins in the outs, and the outs in the ins. No biggie.

"Unhappy customer", Product didnt work and contacted support and they still havent returned my call for 2 weeks!

"Worked as expected", The product isn't too fancy, just does what it's supposed to. Worked in Windoze XP as well as Ubuntu 7.10 on a Thinkpad laptop.

"Not compatible with Win XP Media Center", This product is not compatible with Windows XP Media Center Edition. Wasted many days to figure out. Should have mentioned in the product requirements/description. Too bad that I am returning it back.

"a w e s o m e for the price", works good .. almost returned it because you have to put the midi in and out into the opposite prongs, and then have your keyboard sound all the way down .. overall though, its a great deal .. works with reason 4.0
