Others say...
"Works well" The product works fine. The volume on the phone is slightly low. Not sure if it the skype issue or handset issue.
"Awesome Phone" This phone is quite awesome, is sad that Linksys stop making it anymore, This little phone not just is DECT, cordlessly covers over hundreds of feet. This phone can also supports landline just in case you're not Skype ready yet, but overall one thing I dislike about this phone is there's no volume control although the sound quality is excellent. I was lucky that I got this phone for $107, although now is over $240 everywhere. So does many other Skype phones as well... So I would recommend this phone if the price is still low, but now, I would rather recommend the Phillips Skype phone...
"horrible phone" This is my second phone, and it is doing the same thing my first one did. It works fine for a week, then all i get is "system is starting up" and stays that way. If i push any button, I get "unavailable". If I disconnect it from the computer for a day, it works for two days, then repeats. I can't rely on this phone, calls to linkskys are not productive. When it works it's great, but mostly when I reach for it I know it will be two days before i can use it again.
"Linksys CIT400: Good for a week, then it failed" SHORT VERSION: Do not want.
LONG, EDUCATIONAL VERSION:
The Linksys CIT400 has seen a lot of mixed reviews on the 'net. Reviews from places like ArsTechnica are solid reviews. However, the problem is that these reviews don't capture long-term, real-world usage. More specifically, they don't capture the problems that people are likely to run into.
The Skype forums and reviews found at Amazon are good resources for what real users have experienced with these devices. However, many of these reviews are old---one or more years old. But, as I've now discovered, they are 100% relevant. The reason for this is because the software running on the phone hasn't been updated for a long time... the last update was over a year ago. This means that any problems people were having a year ago are still relevant today, because the software hasn't changed.
(At least, I believe this is true to the best of my knowledge.)
However, this wasn't completely clear before I bought the phone. I hoped many of the problems I read about had been fixed---they were *old* problems, after all. So, I ordered it, plugged it in, entered account information... and we were good to go.
The phone worked great for a week. Calls were reasonably clear, SkypeOut worked a treat.
Then, it started into some loop where it was constantly trying to retrieve contact information. We rebooted it. It kept going. We reset it. It worked for just a bit, and then it started trying to retrieve contact information again.
The phone went straight back to Amazon.
The appeal of the Skype phone is that it is brain-dead simple to set up. The downside is that it is closed-source and proprietary: the only people who can fix it are the people who made it. This is bad, by-and-large. All of telephony works on *standards*. Your landline, your cell phone... these things work because the signals (be they wired or wireless) are standards that must be adhered to, or the FCC will get very, very angry (and your phone won't work).
You see, SIP phones are based on standards. Just like your browser uses HTTP (a standard) and HTML (a standard), SIP phones use the "SIP" protocol (Session Initiation Protocol) to do "voice over IP" (or "voice over Internet Protocol"). Ten years ago, SIP had a hard time with all kinds of things. Now, the technology is more mature. Certainly, it is more widely implemented (there are many, many SIP phones, and only a few Skype phones), and the technologies involved are all standardized technologies. And, in some cases, they're even freely available and open-source, meaning there is a community behind them, not just a single private company.
Although setting up a SIP-based VOIP phone is a bit more work, I've decided it is an adventure I have to take. I want my internet-based phone to work well, and the CIT400 Skype phone does not.
Last I checked, it was already several stops along its journey back to Amazon. I'm sad it didn't work, but it isn't easily fixed (if it can be fixed at all), and as many other people have found, Linksys support can't do anything for the phone owner who is having the problems I encountered.
"Best for voip telephony" This is a great phone for voip, the quality is great, battery lasts long, and lot of options on the menu, the porcess to create a skype account is very easy and you can save a lot of money on international calls...

What our customer's say!
"saves me a ton of money", i'm definitely impressed with this phone, but even more so with the skype service. i have a one year skype in number and a one year skype out subscription. together, they cost me about 90 dollars A YEAR. its a really great way to save. another great feature of this phone is that you can plug in your landline connection to it to make emergency 911 calls even if you dont have a plan
"Wonderfull Discontinued Skype Phone", I have been use this Voip phone for more than 1 year. I love this phone. It has been save me a lot of money in local and international calls. I have also a income phone number sold by skype and the quality of calls are amazing. According with some informations this phone is already discontinued from linksys. The good news is that the same phone is now been sold by Netgear without the iPhone trademark. The Linksys CIT400 iPhone is now available as the Netgear SPH200D.
"Great Skype Phone, but a RIPOFF price by this amazon "third-party merchant"", I bought the CIT400 just a few months ago from Amazon.com for $79. I'm talking Amazon.com prime... the real Amazon. The phone works well and I am very satisfied.
However, this Amazon third-party merchant, "Toyzz", is just ripping you off at this outrageous price of $329.99. What a joke.
Do not buy from price gougers like "Toyzz"... and shame on Amazon for allowing their customers to be exposed to this type of nonsense.
"Great but do not overpay for it", I bought this Skype wireless phone in may 2008, and at the time I paid 90$ for it on Amazon (with free shipping). Now that Linksys has discontinued it, you can only find it above 200$, and that is outrageous. Last week I needed to buy a second one for my parents and I got lucky: for a few hours, it was available again directly through Amazon for around 120$ with free shipping. My patience paid off. As for the phone itself, I am very satisfied with the call quality (about the same as when running Skype on a computer). The only minor glitches I found are: sometimes the clock resets itself without any reason and needs to be manually adjusted (automatic syncing over the internet would be nice); entering long user-names or passwords with the alpha-numeric keyboard can be fastidious, especially given the fact that logging-in is required after a power outage (of more than just a few minutes); check your privacy settings frequently, because this phone tends to reset to allowing all incoming Skype calls rather than, say, just those originating from your contacts. One more caveat: if you plan to use this unit abroad, be advised that the power supply is 120V/60Hz only.
"Good Job Linksys", I am happy that I found this product. I have been shying away from Skype because I did not want to be tethered to the computer while I make calls. This product has made calling as seamless as using a traditional wireless phone. The call quality and feel of the phone is great. I would recommend this phone with out hesitation.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Excellent product; great value", I love my new Skype phone by Linksys. Been using it a few weeks now and here's what I like:
1. It is a standalone phone which means it operates without your computer turned on. You don't even need a computer in your home to set it up. However I prefer to manage my Skype contacts using my computer (i.e., using the Skype software on my computer). Other than that, I get everything I need done (making calls, checking voice mails, etc) just using my phone by itself.
2. Call quality is very good, because (1) the phone itself is good, and the (2) Linksys base station is good, and (3) the Skype network is pretty stable and reliable. I did a test call as soon as I hooked this up, and was told by the person I called that I sounded better than when I call with my cell phone.
3. Can hook up headset to this phone. Easy to talk forever, hands free.
Overall this was a great purchase. I highly recommend this phone.
"Linksys CIT400", Pros: Free Skype Calls Hassle free design / easy to use Saves your username and password does what its supposed to do Works on any router brand (ive used netgear and linksys)
Cons: Sub-par battery life Backlit numberpad not really visible Skype sometimes hangs (needs to be reset) needs to be charged for 14-16 hrs out of the box
I'm currently studying in the USA, and my girlfriend is from the Philippines. I bought her this phone so that we could save on the international phone bills and time spent on the computer chatting. Skype was very convenient but you had to have the computer on and our timing had to be synchronized.
Now with this skype phone, she can have her computer off (saves electricity) and I can call her any time I want to for free. I personally used the phone for a few weeks and I did not find anything bad about it. It basically did what it was supposed to do. (I did some research and found out that 3-way calling between skype and phone users are only available on the GE Skype phone - a feature we didn't need but you might want to consider).
Anyway I plan to purchase another of these phones for myself so that I can keep in contact with my girlfriend. I am overall satisfied with my purchase and Amazon's service.
"Cheap but solid", Nothing bad to say about this phone, except that occasionally Skype craps out and you get errors making calls or having people call you. But for $5/month compared to regular phone service or Vonage, I can't complain. Definitely happy with the hardware, sound is strong and clear, has plenty of features I will never use.
"Skype it!!", It really cuts long distance calls costs down, with a very acceptable voice quality. Wi-Fi connectivity to basestation works perfectly, and does not interfere with my other wireless stufs.
"3 star phone plus 2 stars for allowing you to use skype", Ok, I have a nice Cisco office phone on my desk at home which this phone does not come close to matching in quality so I can;t say wow to the phone like it's the greatest thing ever. What I can say beneficial is that this phone works comparably bad/good as most any other portable but allows skype which is nice. For some reason my international calls show a tremendous degradation of quality sometimes but i have no idea if this is the phone but I never have this problem on headset. Overall well worth it if you prefer skype, and if you don't prefer skype you should.
