Others say...
"High ROI" For such a reasonable price, and ease of installation (to Vista-32, no less), this sound card is sensational. This is the best ROI I have ever experienced in a hardware product. Intuitive directions and the software installation wizard made the entire process clock in at about 30 minutes.
The sound improvement from motherboard to 5.1 is absolutely astounding!
"Lots of promises, not much to back it up" This card simply does not perform to it's product specifications and marketing claims. This can mostly be attributed to the terrible sound drivers that cause a multitude of problems. Such problems include random sound distortions, popping, broken microphone input etc. Yes that's right this XtremeGamer sound card does not currently feature working support for microphones. Customer support is also rather terrible so no one on the support forums has received any support for these problems. Do yourself a favor and look towards the Auzentech or BlueGear range of sound cards, as they actually function.
"Hit or Miss" I'm giving this item two stars since the majority of reviews have liked the product. However, I could not get the system to recognize the card in either of my two open PCI slots. Setup simply stated "no SB product detected" and immediately closed. Amazon only offers a refund on this type of product and not an exchange so there's no way to know it was a bad card or indicative of the line as a whole. Given the fair number of reviews citing compatibility issues I'd have to say this was most likely the cause.
The main problem with the board, though, is it's almost total lack of documentation. The only instructions including on the package is a basic quick start guide. No troubleshooting information whatsoever is provided out of the box. If you do have a problem, there's almost no way to even begin to know where to check. If there had a been more documentation, I would have spent more time working on the issue.
The setup program also could have offered additional options when it did not see the card. This is actually a rather silly oversight on Creative's behalf. Why would I put an SB disc into the machine and try to install drivers if I didn't actually have an SB product? The logical conclusion is that I did install the hardware but something is wrong. Rather than simply closing the setup program should provided suggestions or at least directed me to a troubleshooting guide.
Bottom line: it's a generally well reviewed card when it installs correctly. But you are taking a chance it won't work in your system.
"Best Sound Card " I came through this card while I was checking on Amazon about Creative products, and after reading the reviews, I decided to order one, after few days I received it, was surprised that the card looked kind of small and nothing special, so I installed it, and it was easy to install took me just few minutes, after that I tried to test it, I am at the time been using headphones and the results were fantastic, the sound is clear and the bass and treble are high. Can't wait to try it with 5.1 system. Now have my headphones on all the time :)
"known issue with many games, file name ha20x2k.sys" after many crashes and calling dell and reading my error log and game web site's ,i found out it is the creative lab driver "ha20x3k.sys" was the problem. creative has not fixed the driver yet and the file is a known issue. june 1 2008

What our customer's say!
"great for games and ASIO support is good too", I needed a gaming card and one with ASIO support for home based recording. All my music hardware is USB based and I've got 7ms or less of latency with all of them. This includes an Axiom 61 midi controller keyboard, Guitar Rig 3 software edition without their Rig Control unit, and Line 6 Toneport UX2. So far I'm totally satisfied and don't expect to have to buy a 'pro quality' soundcard which is BIG bucks. All my games sound great. Highly recommended for at home musicians and gamers.
"WOW! What Sound!", For the price, you cannot beat the quality of sound this card produces, even with your standard computer speakers. Installation was a breeze and there is an automatic update service that keeps drivers and programs current.
You cannot go wrong with a Creative product! Even if you don't want to spend the extra money, it is well worth it to upgrade your standard sound card to even the lowest price Creative card!
"Wow! What a difference.", I upgraded from a Sound Blaster Audigy Value. Wow, what a difference in Mass Effect. The sound from this game is now pretty incredible. I did not notice much of a difference with music audio, but if you are a gamer, this is definitely worth the investment.
"Great card, good software, annoying installation", The sound from this card blows onboard audio away. I couldn't believe the difference when I first tried it. Music is clearer, video game sounds are crisper, and overall everything just sounds a hundred times better. There's no way to describe it in words; you really just need to listen for yourself. I've also found that my games run about 10 to 20 fps higher now that I'm not using onboard audio.
I've watched a few DVDs with the included PowerDVD program, and they sound just as good as games. The same thing happens with music, it's just better!
This card features an Intel HD Audio front panel connector (not compatible with the AC'97 audio connector) which is nice. It seems like very few cards offer it.
On the downside, installing the drivers and software is like pulling teeth. The software installation alone took longer on my computer than installing Supreme Commander (an 8 gig game), and required 3 reboots. Plus there's a driver updating utility that needs to be dealt with, and the ever-present "Register Me" notice.
The Creative software itself is a little bit unnecessary and the interface can be confusing. Instead of having all audio options built into one single program, Creative broke it up into many programs. To change options for Game Mode is one program, to change options for Entertainment Mode is another, to change general options is yet another program. The programs link to each other, but its still annoying.
Overall, I highly recommend this card. Games, movies, and music all sound fantastic on it.
(Side note: when installing the software, choose "Minimum Installation". The full install includes tons of stuff that you don't need.)
"Works great with vista", Excellent sound, way better than my onboard sound card which i was using before. Works great with vista, just make sure you use the drivers online.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Problems wirh Windows XP SP3 and latest (June 2008) Drivers", If you are using an analog microphone with this soundcard and are using Windows XP with service pack 3 you will not be able to use your microphone plugged into the back of this card. However, the front panel microphone connection will work (if you have it hooked up to your case).
The microphone connection on the back of this card is the white top-most connector (not the pink connector, which is usually the standard). This white jack is called a "flexijack" by Creative, and it is supposed to sense what type of device you have plugged into it and allow you to use it as a microphone jack. It doubles as a "Digital I/O" or "Mic in / Line in" jack.
The current drivers for Windows XP from creative (as of June '08) do not work properly and you will not be able to configure the "flexijack" as a microphone connection.
Aside from the microphone issue the soundcard works fine.
"Has "What U Hear" (Stereo Mix or Wave Out) for Vista!", This review is intended to help those who, like myself, have been pulling out their hair, looking for a sound card that provides a means to record what is heard through the speakers, directly from the system, in addition to the mic and line-in jacks. Among other names, this feature is called "What U Hear," "Stereo Mix," and "Wave Out."
I love my Gateway GM5632e (with Vista-32 Home Premium) in every respect, except for the on-board Sigmatel audio. Other than sounding good, it lacks the tweaky features of a decent sound card that I not only like to play with, but NEED. The feature I missed most was the ability to record streaming audio. There is much written elsewhere online on this subject, so I'll simply sum up by saying that acquiring this ability has been no small matter for many. Everything has been tried, from installing older sound card drivers, to Virtual Audio Cable(s) (and similar), to patching together the headphone and mic jacks. Well, you folks will be happy to know that your search can end here.
Over the past three days, I tried Sound Blaster's Audigy SE, XtremeAudio, and their Live! 24-bit External. None of them provided the ability to record "What U Hear." Then, I bought the XtremeGamer. After installation, and a search for online updates, that formerly elusive wave recording feature finally appeared. I installed it, and am now a very happy camper. It now works just like it did under XP.
Hope this helps someone. (Incidentally, I love everything else about the card.)
"Pairs nicely with Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX speakers...", I had a Bestbuy gift card burning a whole in my walet, so I decided to go out and get me nice soundcard. Would've been nice to get the Fatal1ty version but funds weren't permitting. Instead I went with the next best thing, the ExtremeGamer.
I'm loving it.
Physical installation was a breeze, I actually like getting into the case and looking around. Also gives me a chance to blow some canned air in there and get all the dust bunnies out and get a good look at the other additions I've made:
4GBs RAM (4 x 1GB) Crucial DDR2 PC2-4200 Linksys WMP54G Wireless-G PCI Card/Adapter MSI (ATI) Radeon X800 256MB GDDR3 PCI-E x16 (and now) Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer
All built around an Intel Pentium 4, 3.0 GHZ chip.
I know none of it is top of the line, but at one point it was a pretty decent rig.
Anyway, this audio card sounds great with the Klipsch 2.1 set up I have, and both of them being THX certified makes sure I'm getting great sound fidelity.
The DLing of the drivers was a breeze, cancel the attempt to search for drivers online and install disk (XP in my case) and a few clicks and about 15 minutes later. You're done.
This will be the last addition to my rig and I hope will last me for another 2 years or so when I'll hopefully build a new one.
(Ignore the name Lillian up top, that's the wife lol)
"Perfect Card", The extreme gamer X-Fi is a killer sound card, between the EAX 5.0 Advanced HD and the software features like game, audio, and entertainment modes it really enhances any audio one wishes to listen to. Creative includes an autoupdate program which is really nice because it's much faster than downloaing updates from directly off their site. I noticed few people commented on nvidia chipset incompatabilty, fortuantley im running a amd/ati mobo along with vista x64 and have not encountered any driver problems. Good investment. Especially for gamers
"Sound Blaster X-Fi review", Had a bit of difficultly with installing card because of interrupt problems with my Nvidia 7800 GS. Good overall perforance and good sound.
