"Norton AntiVirus 2007 (Old Version)" 1. I did not know this was the old version when I purchased the software. 2. I made my purchase in September 2007. The software key was previously registered on April 30, 2007 so I could not register the subscription and it expires in April 2008, not September. 3. I requested that the product be replaced with an unregistered product, which did not happen. Amazon did give me a full refund for the product.
"What a piece of utter garbage!" I have been a long time user of norton anti-virus, but their 2007 edition is utter garbage - nothing but error messages when I tried to install it on a brand new XP Pro PC that vastly exceeded the min installation requirements.
I rang the customer support line, but when an announcement said that, '...a credit card number is required', I put the phone down.
So, Norton now writes garbage software and has the audacity to charge their loyal customers when there are (inevitable) problems.
I am a long-time loyal Norton customer no more...
"Norton Anti-Virus 2007" Product was easy to install once I removed the 30-day trial of Norton Internet Security. So far...so good.
"Works for me" After using Norton antivirus for several years on multiple computers with no problems and the 2006 version ever since it came out, also with no problems, I thought it would be interesting to see what the state of the art was in AV software so I did some research on the Internet. I think complaints about Norton slowing computers are exaggerated and I have never considered my computers slow, I just wanted to see what was out there. Generally, Norton gets decent reviews on most web sites but Kaspersky was often rated higher so I thought I would try it since my Norton subscription was expiring in a few days anyway. I ordered Kaspersky version 6.0 from Amazon for $50 with a $50 rebate and I thought it doesn't get any better than that. I uninstalled Norton and after installing Kaspersky, my computer continuously restarted. The manual tells what to do in such an event but their solution didn't work. I called their tech support and spent two hours on the phone trying to correct the problem. I downloaded and ran the Norton uninstaller, I downloaded and ran the Kaspersky uninstaller, I downloaded and installed Kaspersky version 7.0. We tried everything that the tech could think of, same problem. I asked him if this was a common problem and he said yes even though the manual says it is rare. It was late in the day and I was tired from the effort so I asked the tech if we could continue the next day and he said he would call me at 8 a.m. the next morning. Well, I've been around awhile and I doubted that he would call, and he didn't. After reviewing everything I had read about antivirus software and considering my experience with Norton, I downloaded and installed Norton antivirus 2008. It was easy and it's working perfectly. I'm sure that Kaspersky is excellent software if it works for you, but it didn't work for me and I'm not interested in going to all the effort it would require to try to make it work. I can count on one hand the number of times I have needed tech support for hardware or software so the fact that Norton charges for tech support is not important to me since I've never needed it anyway. I may try a different program someday, something like Nod 32 if they fix their interface, but for now I'm going to go by the old adage "if it ain't broke don't fix it".
"WORRIED and WARY OF NORTON!" I will be filing a formal complaint with my State's Consumer Protection Division to investigate this product and Norton's methods of coercing users to renew their product, quickly on an annual basis.
I have been using Norton anti-virus protection on my computer for at least 3 years.
Since then, I have noticed a pattern of serious computer crashes within a few days of the annual product expiration date.
The cost of repair each time runs me about $150.00. So year after year, I rush to purchase the new product update.
Until this year, I wondered about the pattern of annual crashes, then was forced to conclude that my observation of the correlation of serious/expensive computer crash and its timing was not random, but predictable.
How did I draw my conclusion?
My spouse's computer is protected with Norton. We do not share the same product copy. I predicted on September 10, 2007 that her computer would have a very serious Crash within a few days of the expiration date of the Norton Product. On September 18, 2007, about two or three days after receiving the expiration date notice it Crashed.
Now bear in mind that, the computer in question is not frequently used.
In 2006, I was forced to replace my laptop, due to my Norton experience. I wondered then about the pattern, but simply dismissed it.
Well this year, I will ask the Consumer Protection Division in my State's Attorney General's Office to look into the pattern of the problem observed and help to verify if the problem is more widespread.

What our customer's say!
"Excellent Tool!!", This product helps to protect and safeguard my computer from unwanted attempts at hacking into my system. A must have for the mobile professional.
"Decent, but not as good as the old NAV", This is a decent version of Symantec's Norton Antivirus line. It did slow my XP system down at first, but has run well on my laptop's Vista system. I got it to work well with XP by disabling some of the alerts and reducing the threat levels to medium. Thus said, it's reliable and it has done a good job of blocking two threats. However, my only drawback is that you have to pay extra to get a multiple user version whereas the old days it would install on all my computers without having to purchase extra licenses. In that respect it's a ripoff. Also, I think from reading other reviews that the older Norton versions prior to 2005 were much better and I will admit that I dread each new version that comes out. Thus, I would suggest buying a slightly older version and just pay for the renewal instead of going out and buying the latest version every year.
"worst software ever written", too many pop-ups. CCAPP.EXE is still the bigger POC ever written. It hangs once or twice a week. LiveUpdate notice is a new feature that will give you pop-ups on your desktop about new products, new features, upgrades etc. I guess too many people opt-out on email notices, so they decided to just put it on your desk top... advertising about their products. It will also be in 2008.
I would rather take my chances with nothing, than ever use a Norton product ever again.
"Imagine everything that 2006 was and NAV 2007 has more bloat to spare!!", I am so disgusted with NAV 2007. I do not advise anyone to waste their money on this bloated product. I installed it 3 days ago and I wished I had followed my gut feeling to not buy NAV anymore. I have been a faithful NAV customer since 2001, but that will change when this version expires, or I decide to chuck it and the money I invested in it, sooner. This 2007 version has slowed my computer down so much, it is appauling. My computer crashes and I have to reboot to be able to search the web. My computer is new. DON'T waste your money, I reccommend a free antivirus(AVAST or AVG) over this crap.
"Honest and Intelligent Review", I have read many people have had serious issues with this software, however, that mostly stems from computer and software ignorance rather than Norton 2007 being a poor program. Many people complain this program slows down their computer to the point they cannot use it. First of all, you don't need to set this software to run a virus scan when you turn on your computer. If you do this, you're simply an idiot. This program prevents you from acquiring viruses in the first place so running a scan at start up is completely frivolous. You only really need to run a scan maybe once a week and that's just for the heck of it really.
This anti-virus software has blocked at least a couple dozen viruses, trojans, and port attacks on my computer. I've had this software since the beginning of 2007 and I've been nothing but pleased with its performance. Any anti-virus program (when running a scan) uses up a large chunk of system resources. However, as I stated before, there's no reason to run a scan at startup or more than once a week b/c this program prevents you from acquiring any virus or trojans in the first place. Remember, don't set it to run a scan at start up and if you do run a scan, don't do anything else that's system resource intense while running it.
Another major point, make sure you delete your termporary internet files at least once a month. All those old web page pictures and such, from sites you'll never go to again, end up getting scanned b/c they are saved on your computer. Norton having to scan all this old junk takes a lot of time. If you delete this once a month, you'll cut down the time of the scan by almost half...seriously!
Also, make sure you defragment at least quarterly during the year. Installing/uninstalling programs leads to slower performance b/c files get fragmented. Also, make sure you have a decent hard drive in the first place. You should have at least an 80 gig by today's standards...and if yours is smaller, make sure you've got several gigs of free space at least. If not, of course your computer is going to run slowly no matter what you're doing...especially during a virus scan. It's up to you to take care of your computer and keep it running efficiently. If you don't, it's your fault not the software you're using. If you're hardware is out of date, it's time to upgrade and get with the times people.
If you're using an old/weak computer, of course you're going to experience a great decline in your system performance when running a scan. That's your problem for not having an updated system not the software's problem. If you aren't running a scan, this program does not drain your system resources and sits ready to stop any intrusion attempts when they occur. I'm using a P4 3.2 gig HT with 1 gig of RAM. Pretty basic tech by today's new duo and quad cores being the new standard. If you don't have at least a P4 that's running at least 2.8 gig...you're way behind the times and need to update your pc or laptop. Don't blame the software for being slow when it's your pc or laptop that's egregiously out of date.
Bottom line, Norton 2007 has proved itself to be a great product time and time again. It has saved me dozens of times from viruses, trojans, and intrusion attempts. Stop blaming this software for your ignorance and out of date computers.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Its good for a basic computer", Product worked good and installed easy. I don't like the way Norton works in the back ground and slows down the whole computer.
"Renewing NAV-2005 AGAIN -- Norton has fallen FAR", Funny thing: I saw TONS of the SAME CRAPPY REVIEWS FOR NAV-2006 a year ago, chose the slightly-more-expensive path of renewing NAV-2005 back then ... and have had two happy computers all year.
Since those PCs both get replaced next year, easiest thing for me is to re-renew NAV'05!
"So far so good.", Loaded the program onto my computer. Everything arrived fine, I thought it would have a box or something but all it was was the cd rom.
"BLOATED resource hog, near impossible to uninstall everything", Just like my title says, Symantec is the most awful AV software around. You'd think with all their R&D they would have automatic updates set to more than once a week by default, and actually fix the problems their software has had for the last ten years.
NOD32 blows this out of the water, uses no noticeable resources, and scans 300GB of data in eight minutes. It also updates continually and has a far greater ability to spot patterns of malicious code that are not in virii definitions yet compared to Symantec.
Sorry Norton, you're more useless than anyone can imagine.
"I decided to uninstall Norton...", Just last night, I decided to uninstall norton, as it was causing my Dell 8200 to freeze up. Heck I notice dell does not even use norton anti virus for there newer computers they sell now, there using the McAee Anti virus software. So Im finish with Norton, I've been a Norton user for many years, now I going for a change, as of now Im running no anti virus software, but I plan to buy some other kind in the upcoming days. I notice my PC boots faster now that Norton is off, and programs load faster :D
