"WORRIED and WARY OF NORTON!"
This software worries me. After almost four years of experiencing its abuse to my computer system and the related loss of critical data, I have become extremely wary of Norton.

I will be filing a formal complaint with my State's Consumer Protection Division to investigate this product and Norton's methods of coercing users to renew their product, quickly on an annual basis.

I have been using Norton anti-virus protection on my computer for at least 3 years.

Since then, I have noticed a pattern of serious computer crashes within a few days of the annual product expiration date.

The cost of repair each time runs me about $150.00. So year after year, I rush to purchase the new product update.

Until this year, I wondered about the pattern of annual crashes, then was forced to conclude that my observation of the correlation of serious/expensive computer crashes and its timing was not random, but predictable.

How did I draw my conclusion?

My spouse's computer is protected with Norton. We do not share the same product copy. I predicted on September 10, 2007 that her computer would have a very serious Crash within a few days of the expiration date of the Norton Product. On September 18, 2007, about two or three days after receiving the expiration date notice it Crashed.

Now bear in mind that, the computer in question is not frequently used.

In 2006, I was forced to replace my laptop, due to my Norton experience. I wondered then about the pattern, but simply dismissed it.

Well this year, I will ask the Consumer Protection Division in my State's Attorney General's Office to look into the pattern of the problem observed and help to verify if the problem is more widespread.

"Works well for me"
To install new properly, uninstall all/old A/V. I use Norton Removal Tool available on their website for download. On reboot I run Registry Mechanic (optional) to clean NAV reminants. I did do a reinstall following an unexplained error. No problem using the Removal Tool and reinstalling. It did ask to login. Ad Aware is my A/S and no interference. Left it on during install with no problem. NAV does occasionally run in the background doing whatever but a minor problem. Slow running scans. System is XP Home. Used NAV for several years and it has performed well. No router. Two others have installed and no problems.

"Norton AV 2007 3-User Worked OK, but mighty slow!"
I am editing an earlier review of NAV 2007, 3-User (NAV), a CD we bought from lowprice_blink for a total of about $32 including shipping. After two months to make sure no problems surfaced like some described by other purchasers, I commmented that we put it on two computers running Windows XP. With first uninstalling previous Norton versions, plus uninstalling and later reinstalling both Spybot Search & Destroy and Spywareblaster, plus temporarily disabling our Windows XP Firewall, and whatever else was recommended, including restarts, the whole process took at least three hours. But except for slowness, we only had one significant problem with NAV, where I had to use SmitFraudFix to get rid of some spyware/adware, because NAV didn't recognize it. Now, 10 months after uninstalling NAV and 2 months after installing Kasperskly IS 7.0 (KIS) 3-PC, 2-Yr license in its place, I realize that NAV interfered with other programs to such a degree, that one couldn't use the computers for around 6-8 minutes after each startup. Once the computers were on, however, NAV generally seemed to work OK. I should also add in favor of NAV, that when we bought new computers and uninstalled NAV from the old ones, that our remaining license time transferred over to the new computers without a problem. Re-reviewed May 2008, and change our rating to 2 or 3 stars out of 5.

"Terrible Antivirus Software. DO NOT BUY IT!"
Norton Antivirus 2007 is a terrible software. I tried to install it under Win XP. It is extremely unstable. There are so many "unexpected error, please bala bala ....". Everytime there is an red-x error sign on the icon, I can't figure out if it is working or not. If there is a time to consider buying NAV 2007, DON'T CHOOSE NAV!

"WORKS FINE ON MY 3 COMPUTERS"
However, once you install it (and register it with Symantic) on one computer, the 1 year clock begins to countdown,
even on the 2 remaining installs.

So if you wait 2 months and install it on a 2nd & 3rd computer, you only
have 10 months left on each.

Also, if you have any time remaining from the previous install (2006)
- you lose it!

I had 2 months on one and 1 month on the other and all I got was a total of 1 year each on all 3 - so they will all expire on the same day!

I also had to uninstall Norton's own FireWall before the Antivirus could be installed.

Apart from all of this, it works fine and seems to get along with the Norton SystemWorks Premier (with Ghost) on all 3 machines.

Hopefully, by 2008 all the bad Press will be removed as well.

What our customer's say!

"Works fine with XP and Vista", I am overall satisfied with the product. It warks fine with my XP and Vista PCs, and I did not have any problem in authorizing. The only downside is it uses a lot of memory. You may not want to run the scan while you are working on something.

"you can't use this product on a 64-bit system", Even though there is absolutely NOTHING on the packaging to indicate this software is only compatible with a 32-bit system, it would not allow us to install it to our 64-bit system. Customer-no-Service was an absolute joke.
The individual we dealt with did not have the best grasp of English and it took several tries to explain the situation to them. Their final suggestion was that we purchase Symantec's 64-bit software version. Well...we will purchase someone's 64-bit virus protection software, but I am fairly certain this is the LAST Symantec product we will purchase for quite sometime.

"It is worse than a Virus.", Shortly after the installation program started, I got a message box stating that the Norton Suite 2007 is not compatible with Spybot program (a freeware and excellent product) and it has to be removed. After removal and the needed reboot I started the install program again. Subsequent to copying some files somewhere another message box was opened informing me that instillation has failed due to an error.
Following few minutes of "gathering information" a report was generated. Installation program did not show me the report nor did it display the error. It sent the report to Symantec for "analysis" and informed me that "To fix the problem you must uninstall and reinstall this product"!

At this point installation program asked if I like to remove the program using a utility called AutoFix. Running this program resulted in a message stating that it can not fix the problem. Re-running the installation is not possible since there are temp files stored on the system.

I was directed to Symantec support website after going through the report generation process, to remove the installed files I was offered to run -yes you guest it- AutoFix again. The program also warned me that all Norton 2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products will be removed and (I quote from the program!) "Also, if you use ACT! or WinFAX, back up those databases and uninstall those products." -Unbelievable-. This time AutoFix hung and after five minutes I had to kill the process manually.

I uninstalled WinFAX and other Norton products. Now installation from CD does not run and Norton suite 2007 uninstall program from Windows control panel takes me back into the same loop as before.

It is my practice to make a disk image before installing a new program. At this point I restore the image. If you are installing Norton 2007 suite make sure you make an image of your boot disk

"good buy", norton 2007 is good but it is not as compatible as 2006. i love norton but sometimes, they get over their head as far as revisions and inclusions are concerned!

"Norton AntiVirus 2008", I've used Norton AV for years. Now also have a laptop so needed a 2nd copy of the AV. This was only sold in 3's so I loaded the 3rd copy on my brother in laws laptop. Was a bargain for 3 copies.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Norton Anti-Virus 2007", I ordered this product for three downloads. So far I have used two of them. After reading some of the other notes regarding this product, I deleted any Norton products left on the computer and then I downloaded. I had no problems. Last week I did have to redownload the product on one of the computers as Norton wanted me to download again. It took a while but wasn't really that bad. This was definitely worth the money that I paid. I also received it in a few days.

"Much better than NAV 2006", It works to protect against viruses without constantly bugging me like the competition. I used this product to upgrade from NAV 2006 & it loads a lot faster on startup. Runs fine on my older system with only 512MB of RAM.

"Do Not Buy ANy Norton Software", Not only does Norton software slow down computers and messes up programs, but they support service is disgusting. I bought Norton antivirus one year ago. I renewed my subscription, in the meantime my computer crashed, I junked it, got a new one, and trie to re-download the Norton Program, (note my subscription is valid for 11 more months). Well, after a 30 minute on line chat I was informed that I have to fork out more money and buy an upgrade. Does that make sense?

"Norton - Bugs and all", Norton has struck again. I have loaded two of the three licensed instlls of Norton and am thus far batting .500. The version in my laptop XPPro, works very well. The version on my desktop is irritating the daylights out of me as it keeps asking for the virus update to be run as it claims to be outdated. OK, I will play your game once or twice, but even after running and getting an all-current response the prompt comes up immediately to update because you have not updated since Pluto was a pup! ARGGGGGHHHHH!Norton AntiVirus 2007

"Does what it says...", I have been using the Norton AV for a while now....does what it says. Got a good price for 3 systems license, the rebate came on time. The only little gripe is that Norton products hog a lot of memory and they need to do something about it. For this particular version, after reading all the reviews and elsewhere, I contacted Norton and they also suggested to uninstall any previous versions and then install fresh. Followed that and did not get any problems. They even have a uninstall utility for the previous version. Beats me why they cannot have a clean upgrade path but thats how it is.
