"An Incredible Pain in the Rear"
If you thought Norton or McAfee are intrusive when they want you to run an update, you haven't seen anything yet. Norton will pop up once a few minutes after start-up, and (so far) it won't update when you tell it not to. McAfee will update anytime you're on the internet, even when you tell it not to. This is a pain for those of us with no access to broadband (yes, there are such places) as it slows everything else I'm doing online to a crawl. Aside from the once-daily reminder, though, they leave me alone when I'm not online. Not Computer Associates. CA pops up every few minutes wanting to connect to the internet -- even when I've turned off the automatic updates. This, by the way, was after the first installation on a laptop, when it had spent the better part of two hours downloading updates. It already was up to date, and its status box even said so. But did it let me work? Nope -- every few minutes it popped up on the screen wanting to fire up the modem and tie up my second phone line. News flash for Computer Associates: I have better uses for that phone line than making your program happy. The cherry on the sundae is that you have to click the cancel button TWICE to make the connect to the internet box go away! End result: I've uninstalled CA, trashed the CD, and written the whole thing up to learning a lesson about software from Computer Associates.

"ca anti-virus "
So far it seems a lot faster loading up on start and is somewhat faster thaN NORTON.

no quick scan like norton but can pick files to scan........

full scan is is 30% faster and does not slow the pc down

"Meh... had to install three times"
Quirky. I downloaded the Vista update and installed. First reboot made my computer hang. Not a big deal... I reset. Hung again. Got into safe-mode and uninstalled. Installed again, same problem. Third time was the charm.

Strange, since this is the software Microsoft uses internally.

No issues since third time. Besides those issues, fantastic. Uses very little resources and does not take over your computer (ala Norton Anti-Productivity). Great bargin as well.

"Does not play well with others Oink Oink"
I got this as part of the whole suite when I bought tax software.

The first problem I had was the firewall was stopping all internet access. When I asked tech support how I was supposed to configure it to work with Firefox, they responded how to get it to work with IE. Why doesn't technical support read questions before pasting in standard answer #38a??? Until I could get if t figured out, whenever I rebooted, I simply disabled the firewall down.

The major problem is when virus scan ran, or updates are downloaded, it completely hogs the system. I mean pegs CPU at 100% for an hour or more. Pegs, system uselessly slow. Come on, anti-virus software should be seen but not heard. This is not the highest priority task in the system. Temporarily solved this problem by letting it run while I go to church. On days I didn't go to church, standby when you start up the system.

In complete frustration, I tried to un-install. I used control-panel / add/remove programs and removed all remnants. Did this remove the product? NO. Irony of ironies. Can't even delete the programs because they are always "IN USE." Looks like I'm going to have to hire some pencil-necked guy with a pony tail and pocket protector to rid me of this vermin. That is because I never got a response from tech support on how to remove it.

My only positive side was that I only installed it on one system (and not all three) until I was satisfied that it worked OK.

"great product with great flexibility"
The best about this product is that you are allowed to choose what to install. For me, I always feel the windows firewall is as good as if not better than the third-party firewall. And I don't quite believe in email blockers. So I just installed personal internet antivirus on my computer. and I have had no problems so far. And I know my computer's speed will not be affected since only one function is installed. I used to have Northn Antivirus, my computer becomes extremely slow because Norton use up so much system resource. So I don't like it.

The USB drive is cute and more important, it's free to keep. The installation from the USB flash drive is easy. And you can use it on 3!! computers.

Overall, I strongly recommend it to everybody, especially someone who likes to micro-control their own pc and prefers a better system performance.

What our customer's say!

"Does its job. Can find at reasonable price", I buy this software for really cheap - about $3 I think. It is one year old when I buy it but you get free updates to the current software for a year.

Seems to do its job and doesn't interfere with the computer.

"Not worth trying this one on Vista OS", I bought this in May 2007, and installed it on a machine with Vista OS. Right away I experienced problems with the firewall blocking all internet access. Then I was getting personal security alerts. I tried all notion of ideas and finally called Customer Service. After an eternity I chatted online (using my laptop that was working ok with XP) with someone who figured out that even though this version is supposed to work with Vista out of the box it really does'nt. She advised: 1. Goto Control panel. 2. Click on Network and Sharing center. 3. Click on " Manage Network Conenctions " to the lehthand side. 4. Right click on Default Connection and goto Properties. 5. Uncheck the options "HIPS HIGH FILTER" and "HIPS LOW FILTER" and click ok. 6. Try getting online with the Firewall turned on.

Well that fixed the issue but ever since the computer runs in slow motion whenever I am trying to access web pages. And the durn PARENTAL CONTROL wants to keep me from normal, mundane websites unless I put in an access code, even though they were normal sites like CNN, and had it turned off. FINALLY I uninstalled CA Internet and installed Embarq security, now my internet blazes fast!

"Customer Support???", This company has no customer support. It blocks your internet access. Shutting it off doesn't work; you have to uninstall it to get your internet access back. Then if the FAQ page that they have for customer service doesn't help (which it won't), the require that you fork over 19.99 for help!!! Stay away from this!!

"Same issues with Firewall not working with IE/Renewal $$$$", I had the same experience with one of the other reviewers, the firewall occassionally blocks my IE access. I had to do the same thing - turn off firewall and then it worked. It has also affected performance.

Plus, this was a renewal from software I purchased last year. It cost me $42! That's more expensive than if you bought it off the shelf.

"great software", I bought this software after reading other reviews. It was delivered very fast and I had no problem installing it on my computer or my husbands. Very happy, working without any difficulty. I'm only semi computer literate so I really appreciate not having problems.

"CA Antivirus 2007", After using Norton Antivirus for years -- and putting up with its many quirks -- I followed the advice of a friend and of a trusted web site and recently switched to CA Antivirus (2007).

I've been using the product for about a month and it seems to work just fine. Very transparent, behind the scenes. In fact, one of two "dings" I give the product is that, in my experience, it's a little TOO transparent. It's apparently difficult to actively use the product -- it runs best when it's in "automatic" mode. I'm used to Norton which gave me lots of latitude to interfere, so to speak.

The other "ding" is that, when CA Antivirus updates -- and it appears to do so at least daily -- it often slows down my computer while doing so. Again, Norton gave me the option of choosing when to update. (Perhaps CA Antivirus does, too, but that checkbox must be hidden away somewhere.)

HOWEVER...overall, the product appears to work just fine. My computer had few viruses before I installed CA Antivirus, and presumably none since. Considering the nature of anti-virus software, I suppose "no news is good news."

CA Antivirus also offered a nice rebate or additional software upon purchase, and I'm very happy with the software I chose.

"Great Anti-virus Software", I have been using CA Anti-virus probably for over 3 years now.Never had any problems with it.It doesn't require a lot of CPU usage,it's really light-weighted,it loads fast, you don't even notice you have it.I even have it running when I play video games .The auto-update works well.Every now and then I get paranoid and try to update it manually, but every time I do that I got a message saying that the software is up to date. That makes me feel comfortable...
I have tried both Norton and McAfee and was really dissatisfied with their performance. They both are bulky, eat so much CPU,which causes the computer to slow down big time. It's like you're trying to burn a disc and at the same time trying to browse the internet.McAfee always try to block safe softwares.I had to unblock them every time manually. That's pretty annoying. The CA Antivirus doesn't do that. It's sitting quietly, while still being active and alarms you ONLY when it catches a virus. You don't even have to scan your hard drive, you won't find anything anyway, cause the product finds "bad guys" itself in real time,in LIVE mode, let's put it this way...I guess ,depending on the strength of a certain virus the CA Antivirus might ask you to reboot the computer, but sometimes it just deletes the infected file and you just keep going. So,If you want your computer running safe all the time ,get CA Antivirus.Don't go for anything else. It's cheap ,small, doesn't leave a big footprint in your registry, though very powerful.
In addition to that I use Spyware Doctor and CCleaner-CrapCleaner.That is all you need.

"So Far, So Good.", I love this anti-virus. It is perfect for a home with multiple computers. Best of all, it is easy to install and it doesn't have annoying add ons that infiltrate everything you do. It does it's job and stays out of your way. It updates itself when you're online. It's perfect.

"COMPUTER ASSOCIATES ANTI-VIRUS", THE PRODUCT WORKS WELL AND IS VERY GOOD AT NOT HOGGING RESOURCES FOR DAILY ACTIVITIES LIKE SOME ANTI-VIRUS PRODUCTS CAN.

"CA Antivirus review", 3/23/07
CA Antivirus did not work very well. I always have been a Norton customer, I do not know what got in my head and tried the CA product. It was a mistake that cost me dearly, it did corrupt some files, and I had to reload the Windows XP Prof.
Was a mistake that CA is as good as NOrton. I got Norton 2007 now and got ride of CA.
