Accounting, purchasing and sales transactions work well in multi-user mode, but inventory transactions don't.

Enterprise does not recognize that material movement transactions are not directly tied to A/R and A/P transactions. As a result, timing of material reciept, use, and shipment relative to vendor billing and customer invoicing creates some very strange results.

If you set up an item as an "inventory item" Enterprise attempts to track unit record balances (qty. on hand).

If you receive an inventory item on an open purchase order, use it, then ship the end product to the customer before you enter the vendor "bill" (invoice), Enterprise may automatically (and without telling you) reverse all of the production and invoicing transactions related to the received part. Entry of a vendor "bill" date later than the use date (common in JIT environments) will cause this reversal. The problem is compounded if you use the Enterprise bill of materials to consume inventory balances of related parts, since it will reverse the transactions on all of the related parts.

All of the sudden, your customer invoice disappears, and the component parts all appear to be back in stock.

There is also no record kept in Enterprise of actual receipt date for purchases, or actual ship date for customer shipments once a vendor bill or a customer invoice is created. (There is also no way to make a shipment without immediately generating a customer invoice, which may be a problem if you don't want your shipping dock to be invoicing your customer.)

We changed all item types in Enterprise to "non-inventory" and quit using the bill of materials. We continue to handle inventory quantity balances manually.

"Fantastic Upgrade to the QuickBooks Premier", We had totally outgrown the Premier edition with a 250 MB company file and an accounting staff of 6. The Premier version became very sluggish over time and every single day we were kicking people off the program since we were limited to 5 concurrent users. We now have 11 or 12 concurrent users on QB Enterprise, it is much faster and the entire staff is thrilled. It is possible to make the user privledges very granular - so we were able to allow our account management staff to view customer billing info without the ability to change it. This alone freed up our accounting staff from daily requests.

It was easy to install - even though it is a SQL version - you don't need to know anything about SQL - the program simply walks you through the install process.

And - moving our data over was painless. The program recognized that we were upgrading and it all went smoothly.
