"Purchased for use with my Canon Hv10"
I bought this thinking that I needed to upgrade from premier elements 2.0 because 2.0 doesn't support HD. I found out afterwards that my camera (canon HV10) can play back in SD when downloading to the computer. Duh! Oh well... I am trying out this software and it seems pretty good. I think it is geared more towards the basic user. I personally like the layout more in 2.0 where everything is not readily available (i guess i just like nested menus).

It seems to run a bit quirky at times, but all in all its a pretty good buy and has a lot of potential for you to make some pretty professional looking videos. I never had it crash. But just an fyi, if you plan on working with HD video, make sure you have the computer HP to back it up. HD video takes a lot of processing power to work with.

"Awesome Product"
Have used other production software, but this is far superior to them. Not the newest version, but a great product to use with many of the same effects available on the newer versions. There is virtually no documentation with the product so it is in your best interests to buy a book such as Hollywood Special Effects w/ Adobe Premiere Elements 3. By using the sample files on the disk in the book, I was able to learn how to create great special effects. If you're looking for the Wow factor from family and friends, you'll get it with this program.

"Not good, not bad, BUT"
Well, at first I installed it on my PC, but I guess you'd have to have a good amount of space on your com otherwise it'd be lagging for every clip you drag on to the scene line. I use to work with it on my pc, and I would want to save and export it after COMPLETING IT, the program shuts down on me... They constantly have these AUTO saving, but when you try to open it... Nothing you were working on appears to be seen anywhere. So I don't know why they constantly auto save. Other than that, directions just pains you. You go through the booklet expecting a good direction, but it's just not that simple to follow and figure ( BY NOT TELLING YOU MUCH ). You just need to mess around with it to figure yourself. If you install it on a new laptop with plenty free space ( what I did ) then the lagging is all gone, and you finally can do stuff with it that don't concern you every move you make, and every clip you take. So I got to learn more of the program when the lagging is gone, that nearly exploded my head every time I want to work with it. Just takes from like approximately afternoon to night time. In other words, FOREVER. Once I get to learn the program without lags, it was more acceptable. Still not the BEST program i'd go for, b/c they have tis 2 process when saving and exporting and stuff, which takes forever on a regular computer overloaded with crap. Still a too long process of saving, quality sucks. Even with the best megapix camera, things are not clearly detailed as it should. Overall, an ok program, nice video effects to play with. Words don't do cool jump and explode stuff like movie maker, but you can give it a different look and stuff. You'll just have to figure a lot on your own, so g luck with it. Not worth the EXPENSIVE costing, for a hard to use program partially.

"Fool"
I bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 a couple of months ago and it works fine. I spent two months creating 8 slide shows with over 200 slides total after spending hours fixing up each photo. The slide shows are complete with text, narration, and music. Those slide shows work fine. They're just the way I want them and they look great in Photoshop. Then I found out that I can't export those slide shows to a DVD unless I buy Premiere Elements. So I did (3.0.2). Then I exported the slide shows to Premiere, only to find out that all the frame times and transition times and transition styles are all changed. This means another 6 months changing those in Premiere. I can't even see what I'm clicking on the time line to do that. And guess what. After I do all this, the resolution is so terrible that I would never show the DVD to my worst enemy. And I've spend hours checking the "Help" to no avail. One more thing: I find out that I can't get any help from Adobe unless I pay more money to join a "Support Program." I can't even get into a users forum unless I pay more money. It has got to be the worst program ever developed and sold. I can't even upgrade to the newer versions unless I pay full price. I've suffered a $90 loss.

"Simple enough for a beginner with impressive performance"
I have NEVER done any video editing before. I got this product primarily to be able to do take clips from DVDs we create at church and use in sermons while I am preaching. Then I discovered my MPG2 videos weren't working with PowerPoint, so rather than try to jump through hoops to fix the codec problems, I just opened Premiere Elements 3.0 and dropped the clips I needed in, then exported them as .avi files and they worked great. Then my wife handed me a DVD she wanted to use a clip from at church in less than 90 minutes. I had spent less than 30 minutes with the software up to that point, but I started dumping the DVD onto my hard drive while I went to a meeting. I came back in an hour, and everything was rendered on my hard drive. I played around with the interface for less than five minutes, and within 10 minutes had exported a three minute clip from the DVD into PowerPoint. I still don't claim to know much about video editing, but I don't know how a piece of editing software could get easier than this!

"Technical Assistance left wanting", I upgraded to Adobe Primere Elements 3.0, since the company seemed to have a good reputation and version 1.0 worked flawlessly on my computer. From the beginning (May 2007) I kept getting error messages when reading in from my camcorder. They had me buy another Gig of memory, load minor patches, get upgrades from Apple, but nothing seemed to work. We checked by loading DVIO.exe and the camcorder would down load just fine, as it would via the windows application. Their technical help said they would escalate this and they would call back. Several months later I called and they had closed my request without a call to me. So we reopened it, re-tried a few things, then escalated it again. Several months later I called again and found out it was closed again without any contact with me. Again, we re-tried a few things, escalated it and NOTHING. It is now January of 08, I called again and the next day they called back and told me to delete everything ADOBE on my computer - then reload the operating system (which means I would have to reload all my software). When I called a talked to a supervisor, I asked if ADOBE really cared if there software ever worked on my machine and he indicated that they really did NOT care if I continued to be a customer. So if you buy an ADOBE product and you have problems that are not simple - you are on your own!

"Good software, but a bit stripped down.", I really like the ability to scrub from frame to frame, but APE is only limited to 30fps, and I need to be able to scrub at a selectable framerate. The fact that I can't makes this software almost useless to me, and the fact that the audio placement feature is kind of buggy made the software useless the rest of the way. I've given it a fair shake, but it's not on my list of favorites.

"MPEG 2 Deficiant.", If you have a Sony camcorder, plan on buying a plugin that costs as much, if not more, than this software. I love the interface, love the extras. This is definitely and Adobe product, it just doesn't natively edit MPEG2's.

"Horrible Stability", Software is good but we have constant crashing problems. We have a 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, 3GB RAM, RAID 1 hard drives and windows XP. My father-in-law attempts to use it on a Dell system with the same issues. I concur with the other person who questions whether Adobe performs enough testing or QA. It is also ridiculus that Adobe wants full price for an upgrade after just a year.

"Magnificent for home or educational use - very happy", I purchased version 3.0 after newer version came out, and am VERY VERY pleased with it.

I am a Science teacher, and primarily use this to adapt my own travel video for use in my classroom. I have some artistic chops, so my video projects are on the ambitious side. I don't do hokey stuff -- my work comes out pretty stylish and very engaging.

This editing software will allow you to make extraordinarily elegant videos (DVDs I should say), including musical backdrops, voice-over work, replacing existing soundtracks, adjusting sound levels and all other details on a clip-by-clip basis, etc. etc. etc. If you have home video where some voices are hard to hear while others are very loud, you can easily break the clip, invisibly, into as many bits as you need, in order to make some sections louder or softer as needed. You can do all the fades, wipes, etc. just by dragging and dropping things where you want them. I've put in long sequences of subtitles on some clips where the person is explaining something but it is difficult to make out due to windy weather or ocean waves in the background.

My projects run from 30 minutes to around an hour, and the program has shown no signs of gagging on the size of the files or the number of effects and adjustments I make.

You should DEFINITELY go through the "live" tutorial that comes with the package -- it puts you through all the basic steps -- and after that, you're pretty much on your own to figure out all the things you can do; however, I've found the program logically intuitive and I was doing what I consider very good work on only my second project.

I've heard some complaints about version 4.0, and I can't comment on that. But if you can still get 3.0, I'd say it will be one purchase that you won't regret.

People will tell you your DVDs look good enough for TV -- this is going too far, but the results are certainly as good as I have ever expected to see in home video. At the price they're asking, it's a steal.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Great Looking - Difficult to Use", Great looking, marketed with nice features. Hard to use, instructions are poor, support documents are difficult to navigate. Owned 3 months and still having trouble burning DVDs with the software.

"Nice UI but poor DVD quality", I have a brand new Sony DCR-SR200. The videos are very good. When I burn them to DVD with the crummy software included by Sony they look fine. When I use Elements they are terrible even with all settings set to highest quality. There is a ghost image when the scene pans, i.e. the edges of things like rocks and trees get a pixelated ghost edge trailing them.

The software design is great. It's easy to use and does some cool stuff, but I had to return it due to this problem.

"Easy to use software", I have edited camcorder videos for many years. I have used Video Director, Dazzle, and Pinnacle Studio. I decided to try Adobe Premiere Elements because of the good experience with Adobe Photoshop. I find Adobe Premiere Elements to be straightforward to use.

"Very Unstable. Save Fails. Huge Work Loss Risk.", I forgave Adobe when it didn't run on an Athlon XP, even though this CPU is not that old... I forgave partly when I lost hours of work to a crash that shouldn't have happened... The crash was due to an Adobe bug, but I had to take some blame for failing to save. I was surprised to find that auto save was set to the default 10 minutes though, as it sure seemed like I lost more than that.

So, I set the auto-save to 5 minutes... In fact, I started seeing the "Saving" progress bar start showing up about every 5 minutes. Then it crashed again today.. I thought I was covered, but after relaunching all my work was lost. Again, I though maybe I was doing something wrong. So I looked in the folder structure and found an "Auto-Saves" folder. It even had some very recent "project files". But guess what... I opened the most recent of them and found that none of my changes for today were there.

So aside from the unnecessarily complicated user interface, slow performance, and severe instability (all shown to be Adobe's fault by testing on several different systems with no difference in behavior), this software will also throw out hours of your work after pretending to let you save it.

This is so bad that I am going to take another serious look at finding valid alternatives for my other Adobe software. I used to think Abode was one of the better companies. But this shows that they are willing to release dangerous junk... How can I ever trust them again?

"Very Powerful and Versatile", I spent a lot of time looking a various products, trying them out (soooo glad that is possible) and comparing features and usability. I found this to be simply the best in new-user friendliness and in features. The ability to get compact, high quality flash video (flv), multiple tracks, chroma screens... it will have all I need for a long time. Premier 3 lost a star because it seemed relatively slow to render (I could be wrong about that) and the video titles do not seem as sophisticated or varied as in some products. Also, the audio editing is minimal. I also own Photo Elements 5 (IMHO 5 stars), and strongly recommend users look at the new dual package. It is a bargain for someone looking for an image package as well as video.
