"Iomega External Hard Drive", I have owned both these Iomega drives and the SimpleTech drives, and I am convinced that the Omega drives do indeed last longer, meaning that they don't develop disk errors as quickly as the SimpleTechs. With that said, these drives are not perfect, but there are 2 things you can do to avoid problems: (1) purchase a small table fan to blow air over your drive(s). The metal exterior of these drives, will become quite hot to the touch during extended operation; this is normal and is meant to radiate the heat outward away from the inside to protect that actual drive, and a fan can certainly help this process. Secondly, I have found that the power switch and/or power plug hole (they are connected) of the Iomega drives in particular are not very durable. Try NOT to unplug/replug the power cable over and over again; instead, leave the power plug connected to the drive, leave the power switched on, and simply unplug from the wall. Finally, whatever you do, don't ever drop these drives! Even a short drop from ~ 4 ft off of a desk or table can be a fatal blow to your data. My advice: keep the drives low, close to the ground, on a lower shelf or short stand (with a separate small table fan for cooling!).

"Exactly What We Needed", This item is exactly as described and reviewed on the Amazon site and has fit our need perfectly. It is dependable and easy to use.

"Excellent back up drive", It is true plug-and-play, the drive was immediately and quickly recognized, no problems there. I reformatted from FAT32 to NTFS for XP. Primarily used as a backup drive with Acronis true Image software. Backs up easily and I have had to restore my drive (operating system) once already. I have not had any noise problems or case heating up. The best part is that this drive can be switched off, and turned on only when needed.

"External hardrive", This product is really easy to set up and holds so much. My lap top started working faster right away.

"Iomega 500gb Drive - An excellent Choice!", I purchased this drive to tranfer several large files. The drive with the shipping cost less than $100 and I am thrilled by it. Good choice, especially for the dough!

"Where's the CD for the Hard drive", When I received the Hard drive, I ASSUMED it came with a CD, it did not, and therefore I had to go to the Iomega website to download for this hard drive, and there were 100's of options, of which I had no clue which one to select.
I attempted to download one of the options, but it never completely would download my data, only partially, so I gave up after 3 seperate attemps and returned it.

"Great Drive", I think this external hard drive is great. There's been some comments that it makes noise but i didn't hear any type of noise. It's easy to setup. Just plug it in and you're good to go. It's worth the price. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a decent external hard drive.

"Nice, Quiet, Lots of Space", I read the other reviews before buying, and I got one of the quiet ones. Just remember to reformat it to NTFS before trying to copy things over, especially large files.

"Just what I expected", Popped it out of the box, encrypted the drive and dumped all my data on it.
During this process the device was completely silent and was warm to the touch... Not hot.
I don't regret purchasing this HD and would recommend it to anyone looking for a 500 GB HD.


"Easy to use, lots of storage", I needed to get more storage for my old desktop and was so confused on what to get or even how to use one.
I bought this after reading the customer reviews and have found it to be the perfect external hard drive for anyone to use.
I just plugged it in to the wall, then connected the USB to the computer and it was ready to be used. Can't be any easier than that.
I have backed up my computer and am storing all my picture files on it as well. It is very sturdy and I have had not troubles with it. I have been transporting it amoung several places ( school, work, and home) and it still looks good as new.
