"Not what I expected but good entertaining DVD"
I purchased this DVD to test my new Samsung HD LA32R81B LCD TV. I own a huge collection of DVD's which show amazingly when played on a standard DVD player thanks to the high resolution of the TV screen.
I then thought about obtaining the optimum and the best resolution of my old discs. So, the following purchase was a Samsung DVD R155 recorder with upconversion to 576p, 720p and 1080i to insure a compatibility with the TV.The picture of my DVD's became unbelievable and also the sound using the HD cable included with the player. I didn't rush to a HD player as the dilemma between HD and Blue Ray isn't solved yet. I found this combo DVD at Amazon.com and decided to get it thinking about the face playing on any DVD player since the upconverter doesn't play high definition discs of course.
What I got was a nearly standard picture even not comparable to many old DVD's. Trying to upconvert the 480i standard picture to 720p or 1080i doesn't differ a lot. I thought I'll get a better resolution since the scenes were shot on HD. The 4 tanks are beautiful, and also the sound is OK since you can choose between 4 audio tracks (water bubles Dolby Digital stereo, Seascape, Relaxing and Classic all 3 on Dolby Digital 5.1). The menu works well to me as many reviews complained of the difficulty using it.
OK, this is a start for trying and testing the new era of high definition picture, but I think I'll have to wait until everything will become established, so I can obtain the expected high resolution picture I'm seeking for.

"Fabulous"
I am so pleased with my purchase of this video. I play it on my Blue Ray player and the colors are spectacular, the fish are beautiful and so calming and peaceful. Everyone loves all of the different scenes and the sound effects are terrific. I've had several other DVD's, similar to this one, but this is "by far" the very best value for the money. Buy it, you won't be sorry.

"Not too bad..."
Not the best HD material I've seen, but some of it's not too bad. There is a huge difference between the 480p side and the 1080p side. My favorite is the coral reef, as it has the best image.

My main goal for this disc is not to show off my system, for which I have other, better suited titles for, but rather to play in the background during parties, and for that, it's does a great job and is very pleasing.

Yes, the menus are very slow and brutally simple, but they get the job done. If they don't work for you, then you might need to update the firmware in your player.

I think it was worth the 16 clams. (Pun intended ;)

Panasonic 50" plasma (50PZ750U, recently calibrated by a highly regarded ISF professional)
Toshiba A20 HD DVD player
Onkyo TX-SR705 receiver, using HDMI


"Slightly disappointed"
DVD is not bad, although I'm less than thrilled with the HD picture quality. It didn't blow me away as much as some other titles have.
I've had no problems with menus as others have and it plays great on my regular DVD player.
Overall it's kinda cheesy and a little overpriced for what it is.
My kids seem to love it though.

"Ok I Guess"
It's ok I guess something to leave running in the background when you working or busy. Some of the HD is not up to snuff and this by far no Planet Earth. Planet Earth - The Complete BBC Series [HD DVD]
