"Best thing that ever happened.......to Apple."
After getting a new computer at work complete with Vista and Office 2007, I've decided that I won't be upgrading my home computer or my laptop computer any time soon. I used to upgrade every 2 or 3 years, but if I have to work with this garbage, I'll use my old hardware with XP and Office 2003 as long as possible. Then I'll make the move to Apple. Sorry Dell, my complaint isn't with you. From a simple productivity point of view, Vista (and Office 2007) are HUGE steps backward. And to think they're actually charging for these upgrades. They should actually be paying me to use them.

"Horible Experiment gone bad"
Vista should get no stars. We are all beta testers for Mad Doctor FrankenGates. I hope he burns inhell for all the trouble he has caused with this junk known as Vista. Microjunk is so worried about themselves and their profits, they have forgotten how to take care of their customers. Don't waste your money on any more micro-junk, buy a Mac like I did. You will not be disappointed.
Microsoft vista......What a joke!

"USELESS TRASH."
Internet explorer is worst. It crashes for any reason on Vista. You cannot watch sopcast on Vista.

The list goes on and it is the worst piece of crap.

"Works well VMWARE "
It gives me no trouble on my Macbook Pro. I'm using it through VMWare Virtual Machine. I am not a PC person, but had some programs for school that needed Windows. I can't compare it to previous Windows versions, but for me, it works great.

"Benchmarked against XP, this dog don't hunt"
I just purchased a Dell XPS-M1530 laptop. I bought it for its size and hardware features; unfortunately the only OS choice was Vista.

After five years waiting for the brain trust in Redmond to ship a "killer OS" to replace XP, Vista is a complete let-down. Think Windows XP Service Pack 3. All they did was pretty up the windows - ooooh, transparency! - and add so-called "security" features that put the onus of keeping the operating system from being invaded on the user.

Not much else has changed except the speed (way slower), amount of RAM and processor resources it uses (way more), peripheral compatibility (have an HP printer older than two years? Good luck!) and the locations/names of often used components ("Add and Remove Programs" is now "Programs and Features"). Not exactly worth the $350 price tag.

Boot-to-Desktop takes four times longer than XP on the same machine. Shutdown takes five times longer. Opening Word 2007 takes ten seconds in Vista; the splash screen for Word barely appears when launching in XP.

User Account Control - Microsoft's primary solution for security - is a huge annoyance for experienced users and a confusing mess for non-technical users. It's also a slap in the face - "Oh, you want more secure operating system? Our huge team of developers and engineers couldn't really come up with any ideas, so we present a new acronym: UAC! Have fun, and if you let a trojan take over your system, it's not our fault! Love, Microsoft."

I won't get into great detail here. Suffice it to say that Vista is incredibly slow compared to XP; requires an inordinate amount of RAM and processor to accomplish this reduction in speed; still requires 3rd-party antimalware software to be secure; and is a ridiculously expensive bloated behemoth of an operating system that has very few merits that aren't already found in XP.

Stick with XP. Maybe Windows 7 will be better.

What our customer's say!

"Vista Ultimate", This, being a bargain, was the original version. I had to do quite a bit of updating to make it current. However, I am happy with the cost, the delivery, and even VISTA! I had read a lot of bad, but I really like it.

"Is this supposed to be an improvement?", I have countless issues with Vista Ultimate-without Service Pack 1. My "Vista-certified" hardware is always having trouble functioning. Downloading new drivers has proved futile. I fix one problem, and then another shows up. I thought this was supposed to be an improvement over XP? What a downer... Get a Mac, they work far better.

"Not what you want", They took away all the things you were used to and replaced it with slowness. Why???

"Great OS, only one compliant", There are some quirks to Vista. It's not always very intuitive either. But then again all things have some learning curve to them. Generally I have been very happy with Vista. If I had to guess why there are so many problems with other users is they use Vista as an upgrade, not bothering to flattening/formatting their hard drives and beginning afresh. There are plenty of tips that can be found online to solve most problems otherwise and most of these tips are just familiarizing people with Vista.

The only real compliant I have about Vista Ultimate, and maybe all the Vistas, is that although you are listed as the administrator, you're a protected administrator without true full rights. I used Spybot SnD and it would not allow me to remove all the adaware because I was not a true administrator. Only after unlocking the full rights and logging on the true administrator could I remove them. YUCK and what a pain.

"went back to xp -- forget trying to do pro audio with vista!", do not buy this.

fewer software/hardware companies really care enough to release working drivers for vista because they know its a flop.

i got this with a laptop, and i wish i had the option to take xp, but certain laptop manufacturers are in bed with microsoft.

dont be an annoying jerk and need to impress others with how much like a mac your pc looks. you want to use a computer because it works, not so you can pretend you are doing stuff and look like a moron who paid too much for their equipment... (like a big portion of mac users are!)

i went back to xp and didnt look back! dont be fooled by the nicer looking solitaire game and whatnot. believe me, its not worth it.

forget doing pro audio on vista, by the way. you will meet only frustration.

""Windows is looking for solutions to your problem"", Every time this message comes up after some sort of crash (and it happens alot) I always half expect it to tell me to trash this PC and go to the Apple store. I have a Dell PC and also use a MacBook Pro with Leopard. the similarities are near the surface but it's the inner stuff that really is the downfall of Vista.

Apple's OS is full of eye candy (much like Vista) but it comes through with a level of brilliance that Vista can't match. I have to admit that Vista looks great in the store on those screens -- way better than XP and frankly I ditched XP and use only Vista. But several times a day I'm cursing it.

Crashes are numerous and usually it's windows explorer or internet explorer that does it. I've run every utility, keep my disk and registry clean, virus software up to date, etc etc. Never had so many crashes under XP.

Performance is also an issue. With my Mac i can usually start using it within a minute of turning it on. With Vista i start it and go do somthing else like make dinner since i know it won't be responsive for about 15 minutes.

I've had pretty good luck with compatibility in hardware. Everything worked. Software -- not so much. Games, especially older ones... well, you might want to just turn them into coasters.

this Ultimate version is what I have and really can't see why it was worth the title. the Extras are puny and haven't been updated in a year. nothing really makes it worth buying the more expensive version in my mind.

Even with all that -- if it didn't crash so much it would be a nice OS. I do like it at times, but if you spend any time with Leopard you will be more critical of it's faults.

Hard to recommend it but it's not all bad. Just be prepared for some swearing.

"Truly Horrible!", I "upgraded" to Vista on my desktop, and spent the next two months trying to fix all the problems it caused. I finally uninstalled it -- no easy task -- and have never loved XP more.

My daughter then got a new laptop with Vista pre-installed. Surely there would be no problems with compatibility -- or so I thought -- and I could finally see what Vista is capable of.

Answer: absolutely nothing.

It is slow. It is unstable. It blocks Facebook and Limewire and many other popular programs. Installations take forever, as the screen goes black, and then Vista asks you if you really want to do what you've just commanded it to do. Norton Systemworks -- the savior of Windows on many occasions -- is incompatible. Graphic quality is poor. The ONLY improvement is you can see a miniature version of open windows by dragging the cursor along the taskbar. Wow!

Do NOT buy this software. Do NOT buy a computer with Vista preinstalled. Stick to XP. Maybe the major update scheduled for mid-March will fix some of these problems -- after forcing us to live with them for only a year or so -- but based on what we've seen so far, the odds are very, very low.

If it were free I wouldn't install Vista. There's absolutely no reason on the world to pay for it...unless you're a PC repairman in need of business.

"Bad Vista", Vista is only a bloated piece of software. I recommend you to just stick to XP or upgrade to OS X.

"Vista is failing me big time!", I got an HP laptop loaded with Vista Ultimate from Amazon. I have problems after problems with this thing. I got 11 automatic updates last night and now my laptop is going nuts.

I should have gotten XP instead.

"Even worst than Windows ME (Worst experience ever)", I know this is the END for Microsoft. Windows Vista has got to be the WORST OS I have experienced in my life. I bought a new computer from DELL at almost $3000,oo with dual core Intel chip and 4 gigs of RAM and this machine is runs slower than Windows XP and beginning from day 1 I have experienced computer freeze ups and almost once a day I experience a problem. I hate it and can't understand how if this OS is newer and my system is so expensive I am now worse than I was before!!
