Liked it a lot.. very comfortable.. but now its in the trash.. doesnt work.. I dont know what broke it.. the receiver doesnt catch the mouse signals.. dunno whats wrong.. will buy a simple $15 mouse now..
"What a wonderful piece of equipment" I have been working with computers for the last 20 years, and have known a number of mice. Tired with my old 5-button optical corded (however excellent)mouse, I went shopping for a programmable wireless mouse. I considered the Microsoft mice but was disappointed with the reviews. They seemed to have ergonomic problems. I finally came across the MX Revolution. After some investigation I decided to give it a try. Man, was it worth it! I have read quite a few of the reviews shown here in Amazon, but have seen no one mentioning one of the most impressive features this thing has to offer: It actually has over 10 programmable buttons (if you include the tilting wheel and the thumb scroll wheel, excluding, however, the left and right buttons which are not programmable). Now, that is impressive, but what is more impressive yet is that you can assign any of a very large number of actions/commands to these buttons, and program the mouse independently for ANY program you may be using the mouse in. It senses which application the pointer is in and automatically switches according to the configuration you gave it for that program.
I spend some 12 hours a day sitting in front of my desktop, doing mouse-intensive work. This beauty will truly make my computer life easier and enjoyable, make no mistake.
As to battery life, I have seen a few reviews saying that battery life is poor. I charged my mouse overnight after buying it. I have been working my butt off with it for a week and a half now - without charging it and without turning the thing off during the night - and as of this writing I still have 20% battery left, and counting.
Couldn't be happier.
"ComputerGeeks mislead" Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse
ComputerGeeks sent me only the refurbished (and quite dusty and dirty) mouse and USB receiver. Great. But, how am I supposed to use it without the charging dock? It is a completely useless piece of plastic. No where did it say that it would not be included. And on top of that the package did not include a Logitech CD or owners manual (which isn't that bad but they are still listed in the product description). I am extremely irritated and now I will have to spend the next two weeks I have before I go off to college messing around with extra shipping costs, returns/exchanges, my own personal time and customer service. At this point I do not plan on returning to ComputerGeeks as a customer.
"I hate mice - well, I used to - WoW! An 11 button mouse!" I hate mice. always have, since the early 1980's when I had some clunky mouse on my PC/XT for Windows 1.0. When I had to have a device that allowed me to do what a mouse does, I by far preferred the IBM Trackpoint, a little joystick that sits right on your keyboard between the G and H keys. Or a touchpad. Or a ball. There was no payback for moving my hand off my keyboard to the mouse.
But this mouse has changed my mind. I've been playing a lot of World of Warcraft lately, and, while you can play that game without a mouse, the mouse works better. This mouse has software that allows you to send keystrokes from the mouse buttons. All of them. 11 of them:
Left(1), center(3) (click the top wheel down) and right(2). Lean the top wheel left(4) and right(5). Top center behind the wheel(6). Left edge front(7) and back(8). Thumbwheel forward(9), back(10), and in(11).
All the above and you can roll the mouse wheel forward and back. And the mouse moves and tracks accurately on any surface - no matter how uniform in color it appears to be.
But that does not mess the mouse up for normal use - see, inside WoW, I use the thumbwheel for targeting - forward targets enemy, back targets friend, and clicking it sends an escape to break the targeting. If I'm using the mouse in some other application, no problem. The definitions change based on the program I use.
So the button on the top gets me on and off my mount. The left side roller targets. The left side forward button bubbles me. The left side back button opens my backpacks or my map (if I hold alt). Leaning the top mousewheel left does a "tab" to roll around enemy targets and leaning it right does an assist (which allows me to assist a party member or heal whoever the mob is attacking). And I still have my left right and center mouse clicks as well as my mousewheel with their standard functions.
I play WoW a lot - but any other application I use that much can get their fuctions improved - like if I was editing a lot, I could use the side buttons for cut and paste, or undo and redo or next find - anything that has a keystroke binding can be done off the mouse buttons.
But there are some built in definitions - like the one that allows you to magnify or shrink web sites - or the one that many other people have talked about that allow you to flip through all the apps you have open.
So why do I love this mouse? When I play WoW, I keep my right hand on the mouse. I can do a lot from that mouse - in combat, my left hand punches a few keys on a N52, and my right hand stays on the mouse - and that is all I need. A mouse with 4 buttons would not be enough, but 8 buttons over the standard three and wheel (11 buttons plus a mousewheel counting the thumbwheel as three buttons) is enough to do everything I normally need to do.
Editing is the same why - some redefinition, and I can keep my hand on the mouse until I need to start typing text again. Browsing has always been a mouse activity, but you need to find click spots on your screen less often when you have this mouse.
RIGHT HANDED with a VENGANCE. If you can't yse your mouse right handed, don't waste your time. If you have not gotten it, you really can't use this mouse left handed, not in the way that it was meant to be used.
When Apple brought out the Mac, they made a big deal of only having one button on the mouse. Simpler, they said. Everything you need, they said.
At one point, I was almost sold by the one button hype. But as I use this mouse, I realize that they were wronger than I had ever thought before. :-) The more buttons on the mouse the better - provided that the buttons are easy to hit and tell apart by touch. Logitech may have hit the limit here - but they have not surpassed that limit. This is a great mouse.
"Solidworks or CAD user? Then do yourself a favor and get this mouse!" I work as an architectural engineer in AutoCAD and Solidworks all day. Because of the nature of my work, I do a LOT of zooming/panning. I am only 25 and I was starting to worry that I was not going to be able to keep mousing much longer without giving myself a nice pile of carpal tunnel. After trying some different mouses, including the oddball Perific, I stumbled on this mouse.
All of my problems are gone. If the scroll wheel is your archnemesis on a daily basis with what you do on a computer, buy this mouse immediately, even if it puts your bank account into the negative. Zooming and panning are now effortless and much more elegant. Modeling large scale objects (corporate skylights in my case) is now a breeze.
In short, for CAD users the freewheeling scroll wheel is an indispensable addition to your selection of input devices. This more than makes up for any shortcomings this mouse has. Also, you can completely disregard any reviews that complain about not enough programmable functionality in the included software. UberOptions is a free modification you can find easily on the web that more than makes this mouse as customizable as you want it to be. Do yourself a favor, and go get this mouse!

What our customer's say!
"Fantastic mouse!", Very expensive for a mouse, but well worth it. I have small hands, and it is one of the most comfortable mice I have used. The absolute best and most frequently used features of this mouse are the back and forward buttons and the scroll wheel. You will have to customize the scrolling options to suit your preferences, but I love the two different types of scrolling. The battery lasts a long time and the charging station is very cool.
"Unreliable parts, works on Linux", I have this mouse for like 8 months now, and it's worked ok except for two annoyances.
First, you have to fiddle with its position on the cradle so it begins to charge. When I first got it, more than once I left it to charge overnight only to find the next day that it didn't charge at all. So now I always have to make sure the mouse is properly seated and charging. This is oh so annoying.
On the plus side, after all these months, the battery still lasts a long time, like a week or so. And I never turn it off, so that is impressive.
Now, for the past couple of months, the left button has started to act funny, and now, often when I click it, it performs a double-click. Extremely annoying.
You must know I'm not a heavy mouse user, as I use the keyboard a lot, so this issue is surprising.
The only reason I'm going to purchase another of these is that I just love the free-scroll wheel.
Oh, and it works great on Linux. Using btnx you can configure all of its features.
If this mouse was better built it would get 5 stars. Note that it doesn't feel cheap at all, I just say this because of the issues I mention above.
"best used as a professional tool, simply outstanding", No one on here seems to truly understand WHY this mouse is worth every penny. It's not the fancy scrolling, it's not the alt-tabbing thumb wheel, and it's certainly not the auto search option. Quite simply it is the fact that this mouse has more buttons than any other on the market as far as I know of, and they are all easily changed to perform any task you want. Let me run it down the line:
Before I bought this mouse I had used a Microsoft 5-button Intellimouse for years. I loved it and never wanted to change to another mouse. However, this mouse was irresistible for one reason: 11 customizable buttons. ELEVEN BUTTONS! (left click, right click, wheel button left, wheel button middle, wheel button right, search button, back button, forward button, thumb wheel forward, thumb wheel in, thumb wheel back).
These 11 buttons are customizable for any and all of your programs! (For example you could easily set the search button to perform copy in notepad, paste in mspaint, and search in internet explorer). It's perfect for designers, as you can customize mouse click shortcuts for common commands.
The SetPoint software that comes with it is easy to navigate so that you can customize the 11 buttons you have at your disposal to perform clicks, keystrokes, or hotkeys (IE ctrl+c, atl+tab, etc). Please note that there is an "uber-options" third party software available that is better, but if you don't want to get it, it's not a necessity.
I have had no range or battery issues. I use it heavily 8 hours a day at work and 1-2 hours at home, roughly 4 feet away from the USB dongle. It never lags and I charge it once a week.
I disagree with just about all the cons that I see others have had. The battery life is fine, the range is great, I have not once had the cursor skip or lag (and I've used it with games), the software is good, I don't "accidentally" hit buttons, AND it works on my XP workstation and my Vista laptop.
The ONLY complaint I have is that the thumb wheel could have a bit more "sandpaper" grip to it. I have my thumbwheel programmed to toggle ortho, move, and create polygon for AutoCAD, so I use it a lot and it gets slippery.
Other Thoughts: Combined with autohotkey (a freeware hotkey script creator) and to some degree the uber options SetPoint replacement software, this mouse is absolutely indispensable at work if you are a power user who wants to optimize your work time. If you work at a computer 40hrs a week, I'm sure you can come up with at least 5 repetitive keyboard tasks you perform. With this mouse (and an autohotkey script) you could simplify those 5 text strings into button clicks, plus have room for 4 more. (That's a total of 9 programmable strings per program - I'm not counting right and left click).
This mouse is a HUGE potential upgrade for your workstation. Don't doubt it, add it to your cart.
"Very comfortable - no horizontal scroll wheel", I bought this mouse because I thought the side wheel could be configured for horizontal scrolling. I was very disappointed when I discovered it wasn't really a wheel but a button. I do a lot of work with spreadsheets and the sideways motion of the top wheel does not work as well as my previous 2 wheel mouse. The other thing I noticed is when the top wheel is put into non-click mode it tends to pop back into click mode.
On the plus side the mouse is very comfortable and works well on my mouse pad. Lots of features and the docking station is a nice plus.
If I had known the mouse didn't have a horizontal wheel I probably would have just purchased the MX600 which is also a very nice mouse at half the price.
"Spactacular Human Interface Device!", Seems like there is a few negative views on quality for the MX Revolution. I hoped that wasn't true when I bought it. I've used it at work day in and out for 6 months and it works as good as new. The interface features are superb! The programmable button features per application allows just about every keyboard operation to be done while mousing. If you have ever been stuck with repetitive mouse to keyboard gyrations, it's such a smart relief with the Revolution! Prior to this mouse I was aggrevated that Logitech would not bring out a new version of the Trackman Marble FX. The ergonomics of a heavy track ball were unbeatable, so I thought. But The revolution's scroll wheel employs needle bearings which provide the gliding scroll action like a heavy track ball. But the other buttons of the mouse, unlike the trackball, make this a fantastic upgrade from my expectations. And the quality, contrary to other posts here, are typical Logitech high grade.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Great mouse!", I have repetitive stress injuries to both my thumbs/wrists to the point where they just fused the joint on my left thumb 3 weeks ago. it's in a cast, but I am a DBA so i still need functionality. This MX mouse, with all its programmable features, is really helping me continue to perform my job. Programming the various wheels and buttons to do copy/paste/forward/back/search, etc, was fairly easy. the ergonomic shape gives my bad right hand some relief too. I highly recommend this mouse even for people with two hands!
"The Perfect Mouse", After 2 decades of using mice, this is perfection. I put them on every computer. The heavy scroll wheel and the amazing grip and controls are legendary. I've never had any issues with the wireless. Surfing the net with this is fantastic and FAST. In short, this is nirvana.
It is painful to use computers at clients that haven't been enlightened.
"Great mouse with its quirks", Pros: 1) awesome scroll wheel for lightning fast scrolling for long documents and the ability to stop on a dime when needed 2) rechargeable battery + battery gauge 3) super smooth teflon feet 4) configurable buttons and jog wheel 5) fairly accurate compared to an optical mouse 6) solid build quality of the housing 7) weight well, not too heavy, not too light
Cons: 1) inconsistent travel for the buttons, sometimes the buttons stick 2) battery life could be better 3) logitech's software was horrendous (osx and windows) 4) choppy performance when there are other devices in the 2.4ghz range nearby (wifi, bluetooth)
This is a great multipurpose wireless mouse. You are able to scroll tho documents quickly. The teflon feet allow very smooth movements even on poor surfaces. Its weight and solid construction reminds you of the premuimness of the type of device you are using. However, there are some operational issues. Logitech's software is just the worst (lag on windows, and crashes os x). Forgo that and find yourself some free button management program out there. The issue of choppy performance may be attributed to wifi and bluetooth in close proximity of the usb transmitter. After turning off my wifi, i no longer had performance issues. My last gripe is the buttons. None of the buttons have a tactile feel to it, some have different stroke and travel, while others just feel like they want to stick. The buttons appear to have come from cheaper MX mice. Overall the strengths of the MX Revolution gives me enough reason to keep it as its fairly utilitarian and stylish. Most of the weaknesses could be avoided.
"best mouse i have used", i have used several different mice over the years and this is my favorite so far. comfy ergonomics and the free spinning scroll wheel make it a winner. you can customize every button making it the perfect mouse for whatever your work flow might be. i use this with a 24" Intel iMac with no problems at all.
"Excellent product", I bought this mouse about 4 weeks ago. Since it came almost fully charged, I had to recharge it only once so far. Hence, the battery is very good. However, as in all devices where the battery is irreplacable, I worry that it will die eventually. I think the mouse is of a great quality. The software should offer a little more flexibiliy in defining the functions of the many buttons. Before I got this mouse I tried the Logitech New G5, which I returned because of the weird surface. This mouse, however, has a very nice surface and it looks very nice. The laser seems to be less precise than that of the G5, but still good enough. The range is amazing. I could use the mouse from about 10 meters away from my computer. Overall, I think it is a great product with some potential for improvement.
