"Perfectly named Simple Start is just that - and more!", Our home business has been going for years on Quicken and Excel. It wasn't a great solution, or a fast one, but it was cheap and I didn't have to spend a ton of time learning a complex new program.

Last month my need for invoicing, applying discounts, and keeping track of individual parts and selling units outweighed the abilities of our current system -- so I went looking for an inexpensive and easy solution.

I'd used Quickbooks Manufacturing at work, and it's a behemoth - definitely does the job, but not easy to learn all it's complexities very quickly.

I was worried that Simple Start would be a pared-down version, but still not easy or quick to learn. I also wasn't ready to pay the $70 price tag for the 2008 version.

Seeing the 2007 version available for a much cheaper price, I was willing to give it a shot. I'm very happy I did.

Simple Start was installed, data was entered and I was printing invoices in 3 hours!

"Too limited.", Not suited for any business that does much volume or has employees. The ads didn't clearly tell me I couldn't add Payroll over this version. Ended up having to buy the full Quickbooks anyway, wasting money.

"Quickbooks", Guess I didn't read enough. If you already have QB and do payroll, this is not what you want. Now with the 2007 versions - if you need to do payroll, you'll need QB Pro. Fortunately, QB did an upgrade for me at an upgrade discount, so I didn't loose the $ totally.

"Steep learning curve for non-accountants, Installation, support issues", I was looking for a simple package to keep records for small non-profit. Everyone advised me to get Quickbooks. Tried the free version first, but it is too limited. I can't even imagine a business so simple that version would work for. Tried Simple Start 2007, installed OK on first attempt and used the package for around 6 months. Learning curve is steep but manageable for non-accounting types. Biggest problem (and so far unsolvable) came about when I contracted a virus on my PC. After clearing off the virus I had to reload most of my applications and all came back up fine. Quickbooks will NOT reinstall. I've tried all their fixes from the Intuit website and nothing works. I called Intuit Quickbooks, turns out this is a known bug and they still wanted to charge a fee to allow me to talk to a customer service person. I've decided to write off the $100 for the Quickbooks and use the free Microsoft Office financial package. I won't be buying anymore Quickbooks packages.

"Easy to use", The product was easy to install and populate. If you want to import Quicken files you will need to upgrade to the Quickbooks Pro version.

"Fabulous", I am a bookkeeper and the product we use at the office for all of our bookkeeping is Quickbooks Pro 2007. So, when I decided to start my own business from home, I instantly thought of Quickbooks. This product is easy to use and simple. It is definitely made for a small start-up business. I talked my mom into getting it for her business and she is able to use it no problem with no prior experience or accounting knowledge. Plus, since our tax accountant is a Quickbooks Certified professional, she will be able to easily and quickly prepare our business returns at the end of this year because we are both using the program to help us keep accurate business records. I do highly recommend this program to everyone I can.

"Solid Product, Does the Job", I run a small business and my accountant insisted I get out of Excel and into QuickBooks. I'm pretty happy that I did. While I'd love it if Simple Start did inventory management (it doesn't -- you have to upgrade to the 'next level' for that), my inventory tracking needs are pretty minimal. I've got better clarity into my financial records now, and a number of useful reports for seeing how my company's doing overall. Very nice.

"Does the job", I found it hard to work with and was disappointed that it wasn't more versatile. My needs are not quite the same as a standard business, however, and I have friends with businesses who like this very much.

"What they don't tell you.....", It seems that all previous Quickbook versions will not run on Windows Vista and I had upgraded my system. So, I bought Simple Start as the least expensive way to get a Quickbook product to run on Vista. Turns out Simple start runs fine on Vista BUT you cannot load a company file from earlier versions. Thus, Simple Start was simply useless to me. When I called Intuit customer service they said that for another $100 they'd give me a license number that would unlock that feature. By that time I was committed and had no choice. Talk about getting ripped off!!!

"flippin awesome", It has made my bookkeeping for my small business soooo easy. Invoices in a flash,keep track of your expenses so easily. This program was the best investment and tax deductible! Very easy not complicated!!
