"Warranty Program is Flawed"
I initially liked this monitor very much. Easy set up and an exceptional value. The problem is that the monitor failed and to have it repaired under warranty you need to ship it back to them at your request. In my case, including packing meant those charges would be over $60. So what was a great bargain suddenly had 25% added to it sales price and was no longer such a bargain. Caveat Emptor

"Nice and Simple, Good Price"
Works just great! Price very reasonable. Great free shipping- three days earlier than estimate arrival. I now have two 22" monitors. The only negative about this beautiful product is lack of swiveling up and down.

"Wayne's Acer"
I experienced a very short delivery time after placing the order. Plugged the monitor in to the port on my Acer 2441 Laptop, set the resolution in Windows XP and was up and running. I found no dropped pixels or any other malfunctions. The colors are Great and response time excellent. Overall, I am very pleased with this new product from Acer.

"Excellent, but I chose its newer brother"
BACKGROUND

As the IT person for a small research network, I get to use several LCD monitors. On two of my work workstations I have two each Dell 24" widescreen LCDs. On the third work workstation, I have two Dell 20" LCDs On my home workstation, I have a Samsung 24" widescreen LCD and a Dell 20" widescreen LCD.

I was building a new workstation for a client and I wanted to offer the option of an upgraded LCD in the $250 price range. I found the Acer AL2216Wbd here on Amazon and decided to give it a try because of the overwhelming good reviews.

EXPECTATIONS

[1] Sharp colors
[2] Decent response time
[3] Relatively large screen area
[4] Limited functionality from the monitor stand
[5] Significant backlighting when the screen was black
[6] No dead pixels
[7] No usb ports or other "gadgets"

RESULTS

[1] I read the reviews concerning the colors and contrast, but I had no issue with either of these. I used one of the programmed settings and was quite pleased with it. During testing this monitor was adjacent to my Samsung 245BW. The 245BW is bright and I mean BRIGHT; I am continuously amazed by it. Side-by-side, the 2216 compared well; it was not as bright, but the picture looked great. I was using the DVI connection. You may have read or heard differently, but DVI cable quality does matter; I have seen it with my own eyes. I use the Belkin high performance DVI cable.

[2] I am not a gamer nor am I a photography expert. However, I do a lot of CFD meshing and 3D object manipulations. The 2216 did not display any unusual artifacts nor did it seem limited by its response time.

[3] I wrote above that I have access to several 24" LCDs. That being said, the 2216 screen space is HUGE. Again, side-by-side with my 245BW, the 2216 only seemed a little smaller. I was amazed. More on this in the afterthought section.

[4] I am going to cut to the chase, the OEM monitor stand lacks imagination and functionality. End of story. However, you have to take into consideration the price point for this monitor. In doing so, you can understand the substitution of the inferior monitor stand. For those of you who are living with the OEM stand, I cannot encourage you strongly enough to pay the $32 for the NeoFlex stand. You will gain a new appreciation for the monitor.

[5] Yes, when the screen goes black, you can really see the backlighting. My response? So what. This is not a problem when you are using the monitor. Again, consider the price-point. You cannot have a low price and expect all of the features of a more expensive monitor. Besides, if you are sitting there fretting over your monitor when it is in sleep mode, you have entirely too much time on your hands.

[6] Thankfully, there was not a single dead pixel.

[7] Two comments here. I am one of those computer users with the philosophy that you use specialized equipment for required functionality. I rather have a nice, full powered, separate usb hub, than use the usb ports on the side of a monitor. My Dell monitors have usb ports and I have never connected a usb cable from the computer to the monitor so that I can use the monitor's usb port. One last time, I refer to price point. For the price, the 2216 is an excellent monitor to do one task .. serve as a monitor.

AFTERTHOUGHTS

Generally, I try to keep my reviews focused on the product. I find it to be a disservice when someone supposedly reviews a product, but gives it a poor rating based on their problems with the Seller, shipping, or personal technical shortcomings. However,I must add here that Amazon should receive kudos for their excellent shipping practises. Most places will save on shipping by sending you the item in its store packaging. I really dislike that practice. Amazon shipped the 2215 in a separate outer box and with packing material. Again, kudos to you, Amazon.

Back to the review. I read many user and website reviews of this monitor prior to ordering it. Once I received it, I was extremely happy with it. I was researching something else and I came across an article that suggested the 2216 was a slightly older model and was being replaced by the Acer X223Wbd. I did not want to buy a monitor and have it become last year's model so quickly so I returned the 2216 and purchased the X233. An important note is that the X233's specifications are nearly exactly the same as those of the 2216. However, the X233 screen does not appear as large to me. I was really impressed by the 2216's screen estate and I felt that it were huge. I was using the 2216 with it sitting right next to my 24" Samsung and I still felt that the 2216 screen size was large. The X233 is sitting in the exact same location and my 245BW looks a lot larger.

SUMMARY

This is an awesome monitor especially when you consider the price point. Yes, the stand needs to be replace in order to realize just how wonderful the monitor is. The colors are sharp and you get a lot of screen estate for your money. I bought the X233 because it is reportedly the 2216's newest brother, however, I would wholly recommend the 2216 to others.

"A Beautiful View"

What our customer's say!

"Excellent value", I have been using this monitor for about two months now, and I'm impressed. I have fairly high standards when it comes to displays, so I was hesitant to purchase a monitor that may cut corners to trim the price by a few dollars. After all, many of us spend hours each day staring at a monitor, so it better be decent; and, for its cost, this display is excellent: colors are crisp, contrast is great, standard resolution is nice (1680 x 1050), and we're given both both digital and analog inputs. I've experienced no blurring and no defects of any kind.

The monitor also provides you with complete control over color temperature, contrast, and brightness, and a handy little auto-adjust/quick-switch feature that lets you swap settings on the fly (if, for example, you go from reading a book online to playing a video game). There are no fancy controls here, but I haven't needed any.

I only have three complaints, and none of these are deal-breakers:

(1) The monitor is very slow to wake up. In both Windows and Ubuntu, when you move the mouse or press a key to wake it up, you'll have to wait about 5 seconds before it turns itself on. That may not sound like a long time, but if you're used to your monitor waking up immediately, it can be really annoying. I wouldn't even mention this, except that this is the first monitor I have ever owned that does this. It's strange.

(2) The backlight bleeds through around the edges when the screen is black. This is mostly an aesthetic flaw, and I don't believe it affects the quality of the picture, but seeing a strange halo around your screen definitely makes it look cheap. But you won't notice this when the display is lit up, so don't worry about it unless you're a perfectionist.

(3) The housing is cheap and unstable. Of course, this is a value monitor so we can't expect Apple's aluminum housing here, but this monitor wiggles like Galloping Gertie if you bump it. And it doesn't give you much flexibility when positioning it. While adjusting it, I worry that I'll break it.

Overall, this is a great monitor, and you're hard-pressed to find more bang for your buck in the 22" widescreen category. This is a great find!

"Great value with some limitations", I purchased this as replacement for my 20" boat anchor CRT at work. The color is great. No dead pixels. The price was very reasonable compared to other, similar models. If it was more adjustable I would give it 5 stars. You can only tilt it vertically.

The only problem I had, and I totally own this since I should have checked, is that my Asus motherboard does not support the best aspect ratio for this monitor. It is a two year old board and is not very high end. I plan to pick up an inexpensive graphics card to solve the problem and keep the monitor.

"Kush", This monitor was purchased as an upgrade for my 17" CRT and I'm totally happy with my decision. For the price it has good features and I was able to fix it to my fairly old system with minimum hassle.

However I was not able to get the optimum resolution of 1680x1050 on DVI with my Matrox G550 VGA with 32 MB but it works fine on VGA at the same resolution.

It came without any dead pixels has excellent colour balance, I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in a 22" at a budget price.

"Great value for money", No dead pixels so far. But one kind of notices that is not a high-quality monitor. when I extended my Sony Vaio into this Monitor, you could clearly see the difference in resolution, brightness, etc. But still, it's very nice, very cheap and very useful. Last problem: you can't turn it, the base is fixed.

"Big, bright, clear, cheap", This is a nice, cheap monitor that competes in picture quality with much more expensive ones. It was a nice touch to include both DVI and VGA cables so that it's easy to use the monitor with any computer. I haven't used the monitor with any first-person shooter games, but it's plenty fast enough for watching video, even sports, so I imagine it would do fine. Only downside is the fixed base, so you'd better put it high enough to comfortably look at.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Wow, colors are great and it's a full 22 inches!!!", Wow, colors are great and it's a full 22"!!!

The Acer x223w is bigger than the Samsung SyncMaster 2253LW 21.6" which makes it .24" wider in portrait mode and this makes all the difference. The Acer's adjustment buttons are also really easy to use because they're real buttons!

The Acer x223w is also much better than the Acer P221W 22" because there's no white lines underneath small fonts that has a gray background which was really annyoying.

"Great Value and Very Nice Monitor but Hey Amazon!! ", Let me first start it by I bought this monitor @ local Office Depot. I've wanted a bigger monitor for sometime and I was reading many reviews on line. Not this particular model but many others under $200.00. Started off with 19" but when I can get this size for under $200.00 I started to do little more research. There were many sites were selling it under $200.00 but reading some reviews items arrived either has a dead pixel or some just did not work. As you all know what happens when you buy on-line and if your item comes defective, it will take weeks to get a new one and you have to cough off the shipping cost which is kind a dumb business by mfg. people would buy alot more if they have a return system like major golf company or even Dell. Sure they might charge little more but they would sell more product and that should keep the price down a little.
And what is the most funniest thing is Amazon or some other major sites that sell some item is not even cheaper. I bought this from Office Depot for $179.00 plus tax. And I can return this if it is a defective. even it's not defective I could return it within 15days of purchase without giving them any reason and get my money back. All of it. No excluding shipping charge or restocking fees. Hey Amazon! if you are reading this maybe you guys should do some research and suggest better price for your vendors. Don't get me wrong I like Amazon but sometimes I wish when I come here and ready to purchase I like to see the deal I can't refuse. Even with taking a defective headache chance, I would buy it here if price can not be beat. Several items I bought from Amazon I was fairly happy but price is not really awesome.
Oh yeah, Monitor.. it is good monitor. I won't go into details since who ever bought through on-line with couple of dead pixel monitor can not return it. It's not good enough reason for them to take it back. But local store will. Great size, I kind a like the stand cause it takes very little space and sits low and tilts back. It's like a huge book. I don't know what others are complaining. You pay less than $200.00 for a 22" monitor and you're complaining about a stand? Your lucky stand is included. They could have sold the stand separately and I'm pretty sure you would have bought them. Hows that a marketing idea? Monitor for $200.00 and selection of stand for $19.99 for cheap one and $49.99 for stable and multi adjustable neck? Seems good idea to me.
Still good monitor, looks good and it's clear and bright.

"Great value though not as good as expected", After researching this monitor extensively on the web I chose it for my office. As far as value goes it was the best choice. The picture quality is not quite as good as the 15" Samsung it replaced but the vast acreage it provides more than makes up for it in this situation.

My disappointment is that the stand is not adjustable. I confirmed that with Acer tech support. Apparently they used to make them adjustable because a number of people have commented on how it was rather flimsy. Unfortunately now they are in a fixed position and even worse it leans slightly towards you. I've had to place a notebook under it to get it to lean back a little. It is not as stable as I would have liked. If you have the money, I'd suggest a Samsung for the better picture and better stand. If you are willing to put up with some limitations to save some money then it seems workable.

"A great value", For the price, this is a great monitor. I went to all of the stores on line and in person and couldn't find a better deal for a 22" monitor.

"Great Value", I placed an order for 2 to replace the bulky monitors we have here for over 10 years. What a difference the panel screen makes. Its sleak size allows more usable space on our desks. It provides more viewable space when surfing the net and much easier on the eyes when we have to stare at this for 8 hours a day.

I plan to order 2 more to replace the rest of the dinosaurs in the office.
