"Great Gaming Headphones"
These are absolutely awesome for use with Ventrillo or in game chat function on World of Warcraft...also the sound quality listening to ITunes is incredible...well worth the purchase.

"Great product, great sound!"
I really love my headphones.... a lot. My gaming experiance has totally changed and I really have an advantage now with this precise sound. I can easily pick people up walking into the room and hear them sneaking through the bushes/around walls/etc. I don't have any of the microphone problems other people have (I doubled the mic input in windows). The only thing I need now is the Razer sound card that works with this headset. I could do a lot more sound configuration with that card.

"Meh, for the price get something else."
I have had these for roughly a year now.

Pros: They sound pretty good but not fantastic, but you'll expect that from a headphone in this price range. Comfortable to wear for extended periods. Microphone is detachable.

Cons: 1.The volume control brick is just that a BRICK, way too big and obtrusive. In addition, the wire going in and out of it is oriented wrong when clipped to your belt or pants. This is a huge design flew.

2. The microphone only sticks out about 2 inches. It picks up a lot of static and doesnt do a great job of picking up on your voice. So called noise cancelling mic feature does not work. It also easily falls off.

3. Sound adjustment. There are 5 sound adjustment dials on the volume brick. Front, rear, center, bass, and master volume (big one). The center and bass dials does absolutely nothing. First I thought I had my plugs connected wrong but it wasnt that. It just does not adjust anything. May be a defeat.

4. Terrible customer support. "For Gamers by gamers" guess their customer support is too busy playing games to help customers. Good luck getting hold of one.

Conclusion: Buy something else, they now sit on my shelf and I no longer use them. Would highly recommend getting a good quality stereo headphone instead like Steelpad 5H or going with a Sennheiser.

"Not so good."
First off. My fisrt set had a bad mic out the box. I had to call support to figure out that they had a 10% failur rate. I went back and exchanged it hopping for a non deffective Unit. The second set worked fine. Untill the metal part that hold the right earpiece broke. Completly Snaped This was 3 days after getting the headset. It broke when i was getting it of my head. No more for me.

I was very upset becuase the hole motife of my computer is the razer logo i have the mouse the keyboard stickers. But now i am rocken a diffrent headset.

Pros':
They look nice
Have nice specs

Con's:
Cheap manufacturing and shotty workmenship
10% failur rate

"This headset sucks!"
Usually Razer products are above average in performance. but the Razer Barracuda Gaming headset didn't do any good. and if you wear glasses the headset pushes your glasses into your temple, causing bad headaches. hope someone finds this review useful -Gube

What our customer's say!

"Great sound - good looks - but what is up with those screws", As you can see the reviews are mixed with these headphones. Audio quality is always going to be subjective. I think the headphones sound good compared to most mid range 'phones. For game play and movies the `phones give you a great directional 3D effect.

But construction is not subjective. Either something works or it does not. Either it stays together or it does not.

I love these 'phones, but I have had to return them twice because various parts stop functioning, such as the mic or a speaker. But the worst part is those ridiculous microscopic screws that hold the actual earphone on to the headset. It is impossible to find them when they fall out. You have to disassemble the earphone to re-install the nut inside. You can't locktite them in place, and no hardware store on the planet has a flat head screw that small.

So I love these head phones as much as I hate them, and that is why you are going to see mixed reviews.

"A critical review", I have been using these headphones everyday over the course of over one and a half years, and since I will be retiring these headphones in favor of a new set that will perhaps fit my needs better, I have decided to give my thoughts on these headphones...

I had bought these headphones for a couple of reasons, one was that my old pair of $50 RadioShack headphones were falling apart on me, and the Koss 4AA Pro Titaniums that I had replaced them with were skull-crushingly heavy at 21 ounces, so I wanted something that was light. I also wanted a pair of headphones that would give me my own personal 5.1 space, so I would not need to crank up the speakers to hear 5.1 audio. However, since I am not that much of a gamer the novelty of 5.1 wore off pretty quickly, so I will focus mainly on the sound quality, the build quality, and the quirks and annoyances of these headphones.

First off, these headphones will only work properly only in very specific setups. Do not plan to hook these headphones up to an MP3 player or anywhere you cannot get a USB port... The amp on these headphones requires a USB port (or Razor's proprietary interface) to power them. Also if you do not have the audio jacks for subwoofer/center and rear do not expect them to reach their fullest potential... The subwoofer driver on the headphones will not work if there is not anything coming from the subwoofer/center line, so do not expect to hear bass if that is not plugged in. If you do not have anything coming from the rear speaker or the center speaker on the lines, turning the rear speakers and center speaker all the way down on the volume controls will cause the front to play the front and rear drivers, so you do not have that 'hollowness' that results from only having the 'front' drivers playing, fortunately.

The headphones are quite light and fit my head well, so they are quite comfortable to wear for the long periods (4+ hours) of time I listen to them. However, the top of one of my ears gets bent which makes them hurt after a few hours, but since not many headphones have cushions on them with a greater diameter it may be more of a problem with my particular anatomy.

The volume control / amplifier brick is pretty annoying on these headphones. Although it provides a great degree of control over the headphones, it is way too close to headphones on the cable, which needlessly weighs down the left side of the headphones. It has a clip on it, but the cable from it to the headphones is simply way too short, so you will have to place it in your lap at all times. The main volume control on the headphones has been a bit static-y from day one, and if you turn it up too loud will cause the audio to lean towards the right side, causing problems if you are trying to play from relatively quiet sources.

The bass feature of these headphones is worth talking about on its own: the bass drivers are weighed down, a feature that I have found are unique to these headphones. This causes the bass frequencies to vibrate the headphones, adding extra depth to certain games and music that trigger those frequencies. This will be very annoying at first in a ticklish sense, but you will quickly get used to it. However, it seems to vibrate at times when the driver cannot actually be heard, seemingly giving you the idea that there is a lot more missing aurally than from what can be 'felt.' It seems to give you the illusion of having bass without actually giving it to you. I have experienced headphones that do not vibrate that give you much better bass than these headphones at around the $70-$90 range.

The biggest reason why I am giving these headphones a two (I would rather give a two and a half) is because of the build quality. The subwoofer drivers will start to rattle after using them for awhile, which can only be relieved by letting them rest for a day. Also, the amplifier/volume control brick will cause structural problems with the headphones. After a year, the plastic holding the left speaker snapped due to weight from the volume control brick, which I fixed by using superglue. Just recently, though, the entire piece holding the left speaker together started crumbling apart and only the wire was holding it together. I then had to superglue on all the crumbled plastic parts and tape it up with duct tape. I guess I just go through a lot of headphones, but it is disappointing that something this expensive would fall apart so quickly.

Anyway, there is no doubt that you will enjoy these headphones when you first get them, assuming you have a 5.1 sound card! However these headphones have many shortcomings, and I can *only* recommend them for the use for which it is advertised: 5.1 audio for gaming. There is lots of room for improvement for a future model, however, and if Razor can address these issues with a future model it will definitely be worth looking into.

"It is like having your entertainment system in your ears", One of the best headsets around. Feel the realism of your games and movies. The quality of the materials are very good. The ear foam are really comfortable for long hours of use.

"Headset Review", The Headphones are good they have great sound but they are advertised as directional. I play online shooter games and was hoping that these headphones would help me pinpoint the direction I am being shot from but they fail in that catagory.

"Good sound and quality for me.", I love these headphones. It should be noted I have both the headphones and the sound card and that is the difference I think. The directional sound is good and I have had no problems with any of the drivers or speakers or the mic.

As for negatives if you play with these for some time over time they are not comfortable forever. I notice my ears start to hurt as these headphones fit snuggly and despite comfortable ear pads the actual speakers sit too close to my ears which then hurts after a time. It is not actually that bad. The real problem with all Razer products is their customer service. Vista has been out for 1.5 years and still no WHQL drivers for the AC-1. The Razer site continues to say soon and Razer works with Microsoft to make products! I was a big Razer fan and I still like their products I own, but I will not buy from them anymore unless they get better customer service and support.

As for these headphones they are much better than most and certainly better than the Medusas or any cheap headsets. I would not recommend these without the AC-1 sound card as the two together really make things work perfectly. I gave these a 4 out of 5 due to Razer support.

"Great Headset", The Razer HP-1 Barracuda headset is very good headset, It sounds excellent with my Creative X-FI using the attached Dongle, but even better when paired with the Razer AC-1 Soundcard, It does however have a weakness in audio quality and "3d" sound when used with only stereo input "as on my laptops built in audio" so if you are to purchase this item make sure you have 5.1 capable sound card. As for comfort it is Good for long term use. The Microphone is kinda cheap feeling and plugs in on the bottom of the headset.

"Would not recommend", I purchased the HP-1 headphones and was very disappointed. I could never get the microphone to work correctly, even after returning it to Razer for a different headset. It took Razer one month to exchange my original headset. Entirely too long in my opinion. I'll look at products made by other companies than Razer from now on.

"The same as the Turtle Beach Earforce HPA2", The same as the Turtle Beach Earforce HPA2 expt it has the fancy connector that plugs directly into the back of the Razer soundcard. You can save yourself $30 or more by ordering the The same as the Turtle Beach Earforce HPA2 instead.
Nice bass, good sound separation and fantastic sound quality - even better now that I bought a Razer soundcard.

Headset is comfortable enough to use for hours at a time - most other headphone I've tried make my ears ache after 30 minutes of use.

"Sweet!", This headset is one of the best I have ever used. I have 2 complaints. The adjustment dials don't lock into place and are easily knocked out of prime settings. Once you get used to handling the volume module it is easy to avoid touching any dials. Second, the interior of the headphones rub against my ears. I don't have big ears but even for me extended use can cause some irritation. Other than that these things are the greatest!

"No Customer Service at all", Got a defective unit(horrible noise when adjusting volume),after several e mails never got a response from their customer service. The sound is great as long as you can ignore the terrible interference when adjusting volume.I'll never buy from them again.
