"ScanSoft PDF Converter 4 Professional ", A great program for the money. Would purchase new version in the future. Arrived in a timely manner.

"OK. Note, version 5 comes in march 2008", Works OK. Some of the reviews compared to open source programs that are less expensive. Often they do not have an "EDIT" feature, not even for highlighting in yellow or making marginal comments. Note, version 5 ships in March 2008.

"PDF Converter better than Acrobat!", I just have to say that I am so happy to have discovered this PDF maker software. It works easily with Vista unlike to review copy of Acrobat 8. you can quickly print to pdf as well as edit pdf simply. Definitely well with the investment and so much less than acrobat too! If you are looking for a way to create and edit pdfs this is an efficient solution.

"A breeze", This product was a breeze to install and use. It does take a while for the program to open a pdf but to make a pdf it is quite a breeze. I would recommend the program to another person easily.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Cheap PDF maker works as expected", ScanSoft PDF Converter 4 is an inexpensive pdf converter that compares favourably with Adobe Acrobat. It is easy to use. It can edit pdf files. It can compress pdf's to save space and make them load faster. It can make fillable forms.
I discovered that if you have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer, you should uninstall it BEFORE installing ScanSoft PDF Converter. I did not do that, and I could not uninstall Adobe Acrobat afterwards. But I had previously upgraded the computer from Windows Me to Windows XP, and Adobe never worked right after that. I can't be sure, but to play it safe, uninstall Adobe Acrobat first. The directions do not mention that.
PDF Converter hasn't crashed on my computer, and it works as expected. It opens pdf's that were made with Adobe just fine. The pdf's it makes are compatible with Adobe version 6.0 and higher, and you can choose to make them compatible with earlier versions of Adobe.
Two quibbles: PDF Converter always reverts to its default print settings, and most of those cannot be saved, which means you have to set them each time you print. Adobe can search through a pdf for hyperlinks and add them automatically; PDF Converter cannot do that (the company confirmed this), but you can add hyperlinks manually to any text or graphic. One bit of advice: If you compress your pdf's, be sure to compress them BEFORE adding hyperlinks, since compressing a pdf with hyperlinks will remove the hyperlinks. I learned this the hard way. ADDENDUM: Since I wrote this, I have learned that there is a setting in PDF Converter to disable this "feature."
Amazon's low price makes this product a clear winner over Adobe. There are cheaper pdf makers, but they don't offer the features of this product, such as extracting pages from a pdf and making fillable forms.

"Does not work with Vista & IE Explorer", Could not get it to work with Internet Explorer in Windows Vista Ultimate. It would open pdf in one window, then crash itself and IE when the next pdf window was opened.

"A very affordable .pdf converter", I am happy I took a chance on this Scansoft conversion software because it does everything I hoped it would do, i.e., it readily converts Word files and files scanned with Microsoft Office utilities to .pdf files. This software also allows printing material to a .pdf file. This Scansoft converter is very affordable for home use when one does not need the very expensive full version of Adobe Standard.

"VERY ANGRY EX USER", I bought this product in March 07. It loaded and worked great till 3 days ago. I woke up to find all my PDF's unusable. The program was unusable and just like others I quickly found that there was no way to get answers or a fix without spending money...19.95 or 9.95 to email tech support. The one free call got me a tech who had an accent so strong I could not understand him and when he couldn't fix my problem (after messing up my registry) he told me it was my spyware that was to blame..."disable your spyware and reinstall." I tried ...no luck. Funny the parent company Zeon who is holding everything up, is offering an upgrade,hmm! more $$. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT!!! I wish somebody had warned me.

"Be careful ", I bought PDF Converter 4 and it causes MS Word to crash. I can now only open MS Word in safe mode, which is very frustrating. Nuance has ignored all my requests for help and their "knowledge base" is not helpful. Uninstalling MS Office and reinstalling both software packages did not fix the problem. The only fix I have found so far is to uninstall PDF Converter 4.0, so at least I can continue working. Be very careful before buying this software.
