"Perfect Problem Solver"
We ordered Bob to help control TV watching time for our son. What a great product! Now we are not the bad guys yelling to turn off the TV. Bob is very easy to use, and we had it up and running in about 5 minutes. Programming is very intuitive and the directions for use are pretty clear. (You do have to log out of the device to turn it off, not just turn off the TV.) The device blends in with the other electronics on our entertainment center, so there's no embarrassment factor when his friends come over. It has done a great job of limiting time and is flexible--it is easy to add extra time when watching a favorite film and to change programming. I love Bob!

"Outstanding Media Management Tool~!"
The Bob Screen Time Manager is just what it was promised to be. It works great~! My 16 year old son has NOT been able to circumvent the system and it has delivered just what was promised: more time for family and studies and more control over media time for our teens. Best product I've purchased on the internet in the last two years.

"Bob is worth is weight in gold"
Bob was a great investment for our family. I no longer have to hide remotes or argue over TV time. Once the time runs out, it is gone. The blocks are also a great feature. If he wants to watch TV, he trys the code. If it doesn't work, he moves on to something else. If you have trouble getting your child out the door in the morning, you can setup a block to turn the TV off at whatever time you choose.

He figured out pretty quickly that he needs to conserve his time and choose wisely. The setup was a breeze. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is starting to battle their child over the television.

"Excellent Way to Limit Screen Time"
I bought Bob after researching several similar products. BOB was easy to set up and my kids learned how to use their PIN codes very quickly.

"Bad Guy Bob"
Bob arrived at our house a few weeks ago.

My kids think he's a bad guy because he's always turning off the computer right in the middle of their games.

But they're quickly learning to work with Bob. To negotiate for more time or to limit themselves to the hour or two that Bob gives them.

Bob is a TV Time Manager. And it's not really a guy. It's this small electronic device that you plug into your TV, computer, or videogame into, and then you can set specific time limits and time blocks for up to six different children.

In our house we don't have a problem with the kids watching too much TV, as they only turn it on by themselves on Saturday and Sunday mornings when they're allowed to watch DVD cartoons for an hour or two. So far they've been good about regulating themselves on that.

What we do have a problem with is computer games. My son, especially, likes to play games at the free online sites, like NeoPets and Yahoo Games. We give him an hour a day, usually just after dinner. But that hour goes quickly, and he's so caught up in the action that he forgets the time.

That's where Bob comes in. For computers, you can plug the monitor's electrical cord into Bob, which has a locked outlet so the kids can't simply plug the cord back into the wall outlet. Then your child types in his own 4-digit pin number, and Bob will turn the monitor on for the amount of time the child is allowed. When the alloted time is just about up, Bob gives a 60-second countdown, so your child knows he'd better finish up the game.

You can also set up time blocks when Bob will refuse to accept a PIN, so your kids can't play games or watch TV during hours of the day when they should be doing other things.

It's all worked wonderfully with our son. He has no reason to complain, because we all agreed on how much time he would have on the computer each night. I don't have to watch the clock, and my son is learning a little something about time management.

Bob has an extremely simple interface. It's easy to use, and easy for the kids to understand. They can see right on the screen how much time they've used. Parents can give more time as a reward, or take away time as a punishment.

What our customer's say!

"Works great!", I had purchased a competing product a couple months ago (the Time Machine) and the kids had found some easy ways around it in no time. This device was easy to set up and works great. I had a user problem at one point and wrote customer service and they replied immediately and went beyond normal expectations to help me solve it. A great product from a great company. Highly recommended.

"Great product... Works perfectly", Bob was easy to set up. It's easy for the kids to use, and surprisingly, they don't mind (too much) having it. We are able to avoid arguments that were a regular occurance before. Bob is able to detect that the TV has been turned off, so the kids can save some of their time for later. I believe this is teaching them to be more selective about when and what they watch.

"Buying our 3rd "Bob"", The best product I ever tried for controlling my kids' screen time was "EyeTimer" which inexplicably went out of business. Bob is a worthy substitute - but whereas EyeTimer let me set up a single "screen" budget for each child for 2 TVs and 1 gaming system, I need a "Bob" for each device and have to manage time on each of them. (Eyetimer also had a "homework" mode that let kids use the computer for homework without charging their "playtime" budget and kept track of what they did to make sure there was no playing when they were supposed to be working.)

We have 2 "Bobs" - one for the family TV and one for the small TV my 10- and 13-year-old boys use for gaming. My kids have really learned how to budget their "screen" time. We use a weekly allowance that is split between the gaming Bob and the TV Bob. I'm back to buy a 3rd Bob b/c my 13-year-old figured out he could move the Wii into my bedroom when I'm not home! They won't even have pin numbers on that one.

With Bob, the kids know exactly how much time they've used and how much they have left. I have set up blocks for times they shouldn't be on screens and I have one pin number that only works on Saturdays from 7-11 PM - so it's only used when my oldest is sitting for his younger brother and they're allowed to watch a movie. They also know that I can take away Bob time for bad behavior, or reward them with "fly time" as either a special "bonus" or because there are 10 minutes left in a show they are watching.

"Bob helps regain our family!", Since installing Bob on our TV, my kids have learned to respect
their allotted TV/video time. Previously, "2 hours" would turn into much longer on the weekends. Now, each one has their own time slot.
Very easy to use, very easy to program, can have multiple users, doesn't just "let you in" if the power is cut (unplugged or power outage) -- you have to use the master account if the power is out.
Very straightforward to use. Even my husband, the TV addict, does not complain about it being in place. Very nice to be able to control usage.

"Bob worked great !", BOB has brought peace in our house when it comes to watching TV. Our 2 kids would watch TV as soon as they came home from school to "unwind", but it was very difficult to get them to shut it off and start homework. Even when it was possible the kids would be in a whiny mood which made studying difficult. Our kids are old enough (10 & 12) that once you left the room for a few minutes they would stop the homework, walk into the room with the TV, & turn it back on. Finishing their homework got later into the evening specially when there was extra curricular activities that night (volleyball, karate, or Cub Scouts).

We purchased two BOBs (one for each TV) and they are pretty simple to set up. BOB controls the power to the TV set. So first you unplug your TV from the outlet and connect it into the small plastic power box attached to BOB. Then lock it with the key & put the key away somewhere safe. The BOB power cord is now plugged into the wall. Next, set a 4 digit master password for you, & set the current day & time. Then set a 4 digit password for each child, the amount of time each child can watch TV & "blocks" which are times when they cannot watch TV. You can limit any user's time by day or by week, but not both. For example, we allow 1 hour of TV per day in the living room and have blocked TV from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm. on school days because that is homework time. Since they can't watch TV when they come home from school they have figured out they might as well get their homework done then. On weekends they can watch 2 hours of TV each day. There is an audible warning that starts when 60 seconds of time are left.

BOB has helped to reduce the stress tremendously in our family & overall we are happy with it. It only took about 10 minutes to set up and everything is menu driven on a 4 line LCD display. You use the arrow keys, enter button, and numbers to enter the info. You can also add or subtract time on the fly using "fly time". Basically while your son or daughter are watching TV you touch a special key sequence, enter the master password, and enter or subtract time in 15 minute increments.

One minor grip is that I wish it was more flexible. For example, if we want to keep our current TV limits until 6 pm on school night it worked fine, but if our son is done with his homework early and wants to watch TV at 5:00 it's not easy to do this. You cannot user "fly time" because the user must be logged on to BOB, and they cannot log on since the time is blocked. The only way I found was to use by master password to turn it on for him.

"I love Bob!", Bob has been a peacemaker in our house. I have two teenage children, a girl and a boy. Even though we had a time limit on how much television they should watch, it was very hard to enforce. Even they did not realize how much time they spent in front of the television (usually videogames for my son). Installing Bob made them decide how they wanted to use their time allotment. They no longer flip on the TV mindlessly. It has been wonderful. I can't recommend Bob enough.

"!!!!!Finally!!!!!!", Bob is great!! I have been waiting for a product like this. it is easy to use and it gets the job done! we now have no more fighting over tv time. I bought three. you can tell how good a company is by how they handle the problems. One of my bob's had a l.c.d. screen malfunction. They immediatly sent a new one and a shipping lable to return the old one. I was so impressed with this system because this way I was not stuck for a week without a unit. Their customer service is the best I have ever seen!! A sincere thank you to the inventors of Bob.

"It is nice not to have to be the TV Cop...", We have used EyeTimer in the past, but it wouldn't work with our new DLP Projection TV. I really like the flexibility of the Eyetimer to be able to specify one time bank for all devices in the house, and different time allowances for different days of the week... but this does the job of keeping the kids off the TV/Video games efficiently enough. We just don't give them any default time, and they have us add it whenever they have done the appropriate activity or chores.

"BOB works!", Multiple pediatric studies link excessive television to later development of obesity, ADHD, insomnia, and various other emotional and behavioral disorders. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends limiting children's television watching to one to two hours of quality programming per day. BOB is a system to help enforce these limits.

There are several advantages to using a system like this:
First, it limits our children's time on the TV even when my wife and I are not around.
Second, kids learn to manage their time themselves. If they watch too much early in the week then they run out of minutes until the timer resets at the end of the week.
Lastly, we spend less time yelling at our kids to turn off the TV. The box does the job for us.

Does it really work? It does in our family. My wife was initially quite skeptical but now loves the system. Our kids accepted the limits pretty quickly.

Our first electronic system to limit our kid's TV was the "TV Allowance". That device is a nice idea, but poorly implemented and much too complicated. I'm a technophile but I was usually confused. BOB is a clear improvement: Easier to use, Better display, More flexible (can program for hours per day or per week.)

The only Con I can think of is no battery back up.

If only it could limit the TV to "Quality" programs!

"Bob's the best!", Bob's the best! No more arguing over media time -- all video games, dvds and television shows go through this simple device. Bob is very easy to set up and use. Each user has an unique code, so one child can't "use up" all the time allocated for t.v. One of my children would use all their weekly time in one day, so I am able to set up his account by the day. My daughter, on the other hand, can monitor herself so much better that we set her account up by the week.
