"Fun & Addictive"
Battlefield 2142 is by far the most addictive first person shooter I've ever played, and has a few things that make it unique. Most FPS games you play for awhile and have a great time, but at the end of the day accomplish nothing. However, BF2142 adds a lot of addictive elements that normally only RPG's and MMORPG's have. You have to earn Carrier Points (Experience Points) to earn military ranks, which in turn allows you to unlock new and better gear, that gives you an edge on the battlefield, or to fit your fighting style. There is also a separate ranking system that keeps track of every stat you can think of such as overall kills, deaths, accuracy, rounds fired, and hundreds of other statistics. You can then compare these stats with any other player, and see your rank with any specific weapon or vehicle, and try to be on top of the list. And i'm not talking just by round, but cumulative throughout your soldiers career. In my opinion this is the best feature of the game.
Pros.
Global Rank System
Comprehensive Stats
16 Awesome Vehicles
Large selection of weapons
Excellent communications/squad system that encourages teamwork through chain of command.
Very intense game play
Good graphics, just a little out dated.
Cons.
Very Glitchy
Many little imperfections that drive you crazy.
Sometimes laggy game play in certain game modes and situations.

There are many annoyances in BF2142, but they are merely that, just little nuisances, and are by far outweighed by the many perks. In spite of these little imperfections this game is so intense and fun it's well worth playing and I highly recommend it.

"Amazing Game (don't listen to the haters)- its like you're in the middle of a hi-tech war"
I really don't understand the hate towards this game, this game is great. Let me put it this way, did you watch the movie 'Transformers' by Micheal Bay? Remember one of the first scenes where that Deceptacon (disguised as a US military helicopter) was totally destroying the military installation? This game sometimes feels like that because this game has nice powerful Mechs for you to play with and wreck havoc with.

I could go on and on about this game but I don't really have the time to write a detailed review.

But this game is amazing, especially if you have a computer that is up to snuff. I run it on high at 1280 x 800 (have edit the shortcut) with a 1.66ghz core 2 duo (minimum specs say '1.8ghz' but that's really only if you have a older, slower Pentium-4; the newer chip designs of Pentium-m or Core 2 Duo you should be able to run it fine with 1.6ghz or more), 2gb of ram (highly, highly recommended to run with 2gb's of ram, this game uses a lot of ram) and a Geforce 8600m GT (the most important component; make sure you have a good video card, integrated graphics are NOT going to cut it).

"Another good game from EA"
I really respect, but don't understand the low rate on some reviews. I've been playing this game in my gaming clan =CRBF= and we really realyy enjoy it. Also the expansion is really cools and the new maps are awesome. EA has been working hard with patchs and updates. About the advertising and spyware that's a myth at the moment I'm writing this review.

The game play is really balanced and the unlock system is really cool, so you must be very consistent during the game to be able to unlock items upgrades and new items.

I really love the new cars and airships. Very easy to use and ground/air combat in this machines are really impressive.

I've played BF2 also, but I like more this BF 2142. Recommended.

"A masterpiece, never mind the negative reviews"
I have spent several thousand hours playing this game. It is very well balanced, and endlessly challenging.

I once heard a scholar say that the Bible has wading pools for lambs to play in, and oceans so deep that whales could drown. He meant that the Bible's stories can be simple enough to entertain pre-schoolers, and complex enough to challenge the greatest minds.

In the same way, BF2142 can be entertaining your first game, and 1000 games later. Just shooting at people on your first battle is fun, and you can spend a lifetime trying to master all the complexities of the game. It features four classes, several vehicles, and two types of missions. And with multiplayer, each opponent is challenging in a way that artificial intelligence can never fully mimic.

The vast majority of the negative reviews on this site concentrate on the issues of "adware" and "spyware", which are perfectly valid concerns, but in this game are unwarranted. So what if the billboards in the game occaisionally say "Intel" on them? And if EA meant to install spyware, they apparently changed their mind or failed, because I have played this game for several hours a day for more than a year, and I have never had a problem or noticed anything. I'm sorry, but the rightous indignation over these issues will have to wait for another game.

And as far as the issues of "patches" go, yeah, it's annoying, but the quality of the game play more than makes up for it. There was a problem for a while with hackers and cheaters, but the patches fixed it. It was well worth any inconvienence. EA is to applauded, not scolded.

Never mind the politics, just buy it and have tons of gaming fun.

"BF 2142"
I for one, have played several games with in the BF series. The original will always have a special place in my heart, but after trying BF 2142 I find it difficult to go back and play the others. I have played it here in the States as well as over seas and find it a good place to unwind, link up with bubbies, and just have fun blowing stuff up. Admittedly, I have had a few minor issues with Northern Strike, the expansion pack for BF 2142, but all in all I think it is an excellent game.

What our customer's say!

"One of the Best Online Games of All Time", The title says it all. I haven't played another game since I got this a couple of months ago. I even suspended my WoW account for now. As one of the earlier reviews said, this game is a masterpiece, especially once you learn to play as a member of a team (squad). Its superb action from the start of the round till the end and everything you do matters to the overall success of the team. And yes, you never run out of things to do. Everything from the gameplay, graphics, sound, music and controls are top notch. I won't go into the details of how its played and what its about since there's already enough information elsewhere. All I can say is that you are missing a lot if you don't get this game and at least try to get competent at it. It might take a some time before you become competitive against the many people you'll play against but its well worth the effort. FIVE STARS!

"WOW", I am highly impressed with this game. The gameplay is simple and very fun. The single player mode is a great and fun way to kill time.

"EXCELLENT GAME!", This game is pretty fun but when it comes down to it the singleplayer has low choices, The multiplayer however is much more fun. Online sopport is bad.

"Amazing game!",
This is one of the best First Person Shooters my friends and I have ever played. It's basically 100% multiplayer, so you need to be online to play, but it's graphics are beautiful, the ideas are dynamic and yet coherent, and there's something for every action/war fan out there! The only reason I don't give this game a HUGE five-stars (choosing four stars for the overall rating instead), is because it is made by EA Games, the buggiest, most flawed-programming, worst-customer-service company ever. Their corporate size is so massive, they know that they don't need to work really hard to please individual customers (and by individual, I mean thousands of them in huge, angry masses). Battlefield 2142, like many EA Games, sometimes disagrees with computer setups or internet connections. The good news is, if it works for your setup, then it probably always will. Good luck- aside from EA's uniquely slipshod programming, the game's just absolutely fantastic.

"Best Battlefield of the Series", Battlefield 2142 is a superior product to Battlefield 2 in every way. Less crashes, better graphic support, no more JOIN NOW button on the main screen, and so on. However, there are still some crashes and really annoying glitches that never seem to get addressed, but for that you can blame EA. Electronic Arts is bad news if you ask me, but I'm not reviewing them...

The online experience is fun, which is the big deal. It was so fun I bought a copy for my room mate because he was too cheap to buy 2142 since he rationalized that there was no need as he owned BF2. Wrong.

Since purchasing a second copy of 2142, we have not even touched our BF2 disks. There are tons of unlocks and achievements, and bunches of alternative ways to score points without having to kill a thousand people. I love this game. Infact, I think I'll play it right now...

"Wake Me When The Single Player Is Cared About", Alright, I don't care about the ads, or the spyware. They shouldn't do that, but I'm not going to fuss about it. Putting that aside, I don't do multi-player on the computer, the Internet is just too sporadic for me. I only do multi-player on XBOX Live. Thus I don't use the multi-player here, just the single-player. Which would be fine, except there are five maps. What??? There's a ton more in the multi-player. Is it that hard to put AI in another couple of maps? It's not like there's a real storyline, just put AI in another couple of maps. But can they do this? Nope. In fact, you can't upgrade to new weapons either. You're just stuck with the basics, and that's it, unless you pick up something from a fallen soldier. Although a couple of the maps they give you are cool, they get boring after playing them ten times.

In fact, it seems the single-player is just there to train you for multi-player. Doesn't make sense, but that's how it is

The graphics are okay, nothing totally amazing. The AI seems to be fine, no idiots walking through walls, or running in place. The storyline is just there for background, and is just there so you don't have to play another world war 2 game.

However, you still gotta love the gameplay. After all, it is fun to shoot bad guys, jump in the car, and run over some more bad guys. And while the helicopters are kind of hard to operate, and aim, they're still fun to fly around in. The game is also missing something totally awesome, like the jet pack from Battlefield 1942.

Overall, just an okay game. While the gameplay is great, you get the feeling the game somehow doesn't like you. The single-player is not great at all, and seems downright lazy. So, if you're looking for a multi-player game, this seems good. But anything else, and you might want to pass.

"Battlefield 2142 (DVD-ROM) - no thnk you", In game ads? Must register on-line to use. NO THANK YOU. I did not open the box, I sent it back. I am not able to rate lower than 1 star.
I love the reviewers who chalk it up as "oh well, guess this is the way things will be". Well only if you buy the product. If I can only participate in single player or on-line combat, slaughter and adventure by registering then I will go back to checkers. But I'm just prickly that way. It's MY money.

"Good game", Very good game. I had BF2 and thought it was an excellent game and had to buy BF2142 as well. I like the lay out on it a little better than BF2. You can have buddies in game and see when they are signed in. Also send messages, check their stats, and join the server they are playing on. I recently purchased the Northern Strike Expansion and it to is fun. Shame Northern Strike is only available for download from ES Downloader for now. I seen it was going to be shipped with BF2142 starting in January or February though. When I purchased BF2142 it was $15 cheaper than any local retail store, yippee for Amazon.com for having some lower prices.

I have now heard rumors about BF3 being released in late '08. Getting a new computer all set up so I will be able to get that one as well. I have enjoyed the complete line of the Battlefield series starting with BF1942. Really have a lot of fun and enjoyment from playing them. They do have a few bugs in the games but what new computer games don't? To many game publishers push them out the door so fast they do not have time enough to make sure they are in 100% working order. The patches that are released help solve most of the issues but not all.
Still a very good game and I recommend it to anyone.

"Good, with some quirks", Some background: this is my first journey into the battlefield series of games.

Summary: I like it, but it does have some quirks. First in running, and second in gameplay. However, with some understanding, this is a FANTASTIC game.

First quirk is that one will have to look-up how to do the simple modification to running the program to get it to support wide-screen monitors. It's something very simple and most people should be able to do.

Second quirk is that with the latest round of patches (1.4) everything seems to be working fine and their help forums don't seem to be too abuzz with issues. However, 'something' seems to be up with my setup, personally.

Third quirk is that for all the hoopla surrounding in-game advertising, you don't hear anything about it, a year later. The reason: it didn't make anything any different than it was before. Its just what used to be fake advertisements on the sides of buildings, are now real and nicely blended-in to the post apocalyptic world of battlefield.

Playing-wise, there are several things that one must understand. First off, the only way to know you're landing a hit on an entity is to see the little shadow show-up over your cursor. There is no blood in the future of warfare. The second thing to know is that battlefield aims for a little more level of realism. Things like weapon accuracy when you're running vs. laying prone are calculated and accounted for. This can be quite a shock, coming from a game like half-life where if it's in the targeting cross-hairs, its dead. Third thing is that this HEAVILY relies on teamwork to win a battle. If you don't know how to work as a team, you fail, and if your teammates don't know how to work as a team, the same thing happens.

Basically this is an FPS that rewards patience, tactics, and teamwork, more than anything else I've ever played. I've got 20 hours in on this, and I see how many people have upwards of 500 hours playing it. The satisfaction of winning, working together, and earning achievements has never, ever been higher for me.

Solid beefs/problems I have with this game are as follows:
1.) Some of the maps are quite vehicle-heavy. This is good in that, no matter what you are, everyone is equally as powerful in a vehicle. This is bad in that, one skilled guy with a gunship can be a gamebreaker on the battlefield. This also creates a screwed-up problem where 8 people stand around waiting for a gunship to respawn after its been blown-up.
2.) It's 2007...almost 2008... and I've become used to having dynamic damage on inanimate objects in my games. I can't even run over a hand-railing in a tank in this game. Canon-shells will be stopped by a chain-link fence.
3.) There's no real skill-rank system to match a person up with people of a like skill. So sometimes I will see a completely unmatched battle with the beginners on one side, and the experienced generals on the other. It tries to even it out, but the server system they've implemented leaves much to be desired. In addition to issues like this, is the x-factor in that this is meant to be played with real people, only. So you get all kinds online, from some very good leaders, to absolute wieners.

"Great FPS MMO", Full of FPS action in a fun multiplay enviornment. Lack of any single player campaigm (just practice vs. dummy soldiers) limits its long term playability and removes any RPG feel. A great game if you just want to get together with friends and blow each other up, but limited by having only the multiplay enviornment. "Rank advancement" based off of online accomplishments can be rough to noobs, but adds a unique game element.
