Others say...
"Occasionally irritating, but otherwise AWESOME game! Lots of fun!!!" The Secret Files: Tunguska is a great game. My younger brother and I played it together and had a blast. Other reviewers have complained about the voice acting, but when that is the main problem with a game, I'd say it's still pretty good. It's fun to play with another person so you can make fun of some of the ridiculous things the characters say. The graphics are very good and overall it's quite entertaining.
The only thing that frustrated me was the often illogical MacGyver-type things you had to do. The game requires you to use objects in creative ways or to combine several items to make new ones. I thought this was a very interesting aspect of the program, but also a little annoying. Sometimes you had to do absurd things that no one would ever think of on their own. We ended up either trying to combine every one of our items, using every item on everything in a room, or "cheating" and looking at the walkthrough. There was also a bug that prevented us from picking up a rat at one point in the game (which is necessary to continue), but I just downloaded a patch from the website and it was fine. Those were my only complaints.
We often play the Nancy Drew series even though it is a bit simplistic and irritating. Tunguska is much better than the ND games and the story is much more mature. I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys adventure or mystery games and suggest playing it with a friend!
"Secret Files" What a wonderful game. A total surprise. I have to admit I do need hints now and then to help me through the game as with most games. I can hardly wait for the next one. It keeps you wanting more.
"Fun game, despite the bizarre inventory" I have to admit I had to consult an on-line walkthrough for this game, more times than I had to for any other game, including Myst Revelation. Even with the walkthrough, I had problems applying the inventory items sometimes, but the story is fun, and in spite of, or maybe because of this, I enjoyed the game. Character movement is limited, the backgrounds tend to be static, but still very pretty.
"nice game, graphics, and all" the game is great fun, I dont know why pple are critesizing some things that are irrelevant to gameplay, (Nina's voice), I mean what next? the wardrobe? i've never heard someone saying he/she didnt like the characters's clothes, nor voices in an adventure game, and remember, not all game programmers, can afford to buy designer shoes for their characters. the graphics are great, music also, the puzzles are not that hard, but also not so easy, and they offer you the screen search help, which indicates with which objects you can interact in the scene, but, anyway, it is your option to use it or not, the game played great on Vista, although played on a Laptop (graphic card with shared memory), fast, not boring, in short it was a great game.
"Entertaining, fun & no roadblocks" I liked this game a lot because it had a good game flow. This game was just difficult enough to make figuring it out satisfying but not so hard that I got frustrated. I recommend this game.

What our customer's say!
"A good effort with some annoying flaws", This game was a good effort. It had a decent story line and characters that you could have felt for, but didn't mostly because the voice acting was so HORRENDOUS! The main character Nina sounds like, you know, one of those, like, you know, annoying stereotypical teenagers, who, like, are such total airheads. I know this games is labeled for teens, but do we have to treat them like idiots? I can't imagine a teen not rolling their eyes at this game because it became ridiculous. Also, the lines are very bad. Now I understand this game was translated, but who did the voicing? Inmates at an insane asylum? If I were reading some of these lines, I would have said something about the form or the very bad choice of certain words, just so my name wouldn't be associated with a bad production. Still, some bad lines are forgivable. Oh, and there is some profanity. Not much (mostly at the end), just the excrement one, but I found it's use jarring and a bit disturbing given the overall atmosphere of the game (no doubt some Hollywood worshiper wanting to make this seem "more real and gritty")
The problems in this game were also a point of annoyance. About half made some kind of sense, the rest were just trial and error or a quick read through a walk through. This made it very annoying to play, as I would find myself stopping to check a walk through because the answer was so improbable (or impossible) that I just couldn't figure it out. I'm talking some serious stretching of logic, if not outright silliness.Often the main character is standing in front of a smaller hot spot you need to solve a puzzle, so you have to move her over, then click again on the tiny specific hot spot. I also had trouble identifying these smaller hot spots in a puzzle (ex. you could click on a door and the keyhole) & getting the clicks placed just right so I could activate it.
As for the story itself, it had a lot of potential, but seemed to have fallen short. I stopped being curious about halfway through, but that could have been because I was so annoyed by the main character's voice & frustrated by the puzzles (which were mostly stupid). About the only time I enjoyed myself was when I could play as the secondary character & I attribute that to his voice, which wasn't annoying and did have some ability to convey some emotion.
Overall, I can't really recommend this game unless you are immune to the annoying voice. I got this in that Adventure Pack that comes with 5 games, and that's the only way I would buy this one. It's not worth wasting $10. There is supposed to be a sequel and if they learn from the last & correct the major blunders, then I would happily try it, which is why I've given this one 3 stars instead of 2.
"Do You Like A Challenge?", Well, ya going to get it here with Tunguska Game. The puzzles are not that easy for a 60 yr old but lots of fun. Graphics are nice and story is well written. I enjoyed this game and had lots of quality time fun playing it.
"Best Adventure Game I've Ever Played", I thought it was great! The graphics and plot were good. The main character's voice was a little annoying, but not too much. Most of the puzzles were relatively easy, except for a few here and there that made no sense. The ending was a little disappointing, but still worth it.
Overall, I'd say it was wonderful. I really enjoyed it and can't wait for the second one.
"Get the German version if possible", This is an excellent, old fashioned adventure game, with likable characters, interesting story and good puzzles.
The only downside is the bad English translation and voice acting (there are worse, such as the one of Keepsake, but it is by no means good), which severely tarnishes this otherwise splendid game. It was originally produced in German and if you have even a basic knowledge of German, I strongly recommend to get an imported version (which I did after hearing the first few sentences of Nina in English). In German, the writing is excellent and the cast is brilliant: for instance, Nina has the German dubing-voice of Angelina Jolie, and Max has the one of Mark Wahlberg. Other actors employed lend their voices usually to A-list actors such as Orlando Bloom, Christian Slater, Jonny Depp, Tom Hanks, Roger Moore, Kurt Russell, Steven Seagal, Antonio Banderas and even Lisa and Homer Simpson. Dubbing is common in Germany, and these folks have years of experience that you can hear.
I give the game 5/5 for the German version, but only 4/5 for the English one.
"Worth playing, but...", I'm about 2/3 through this game, taking time to savor it, and have only one real complaint. In the English version the voice of the main character, Nina, is reminiscent of actress Melanie Griffith - "Minnie Mouse on helium", someone once described it. It is an immature and repressed voice, which I'm sure the game makers think sounds like a teenager, but it's hard to gel that voice with the daredevil adventurer Nina is. You can always turn off the sound and read the subtitles.

"Great graphics, but predictable bad guys!", Great game, pretty easy, some difficulty matching objects to solve problems. Loved the hot spot highlight feature! Would recommend this game for those who loved syberia. I wished I could have explored more places such as the swamp, and the professor's house, just because the graphics were so great. But other places where i could explore alot gave me little pleasure or clues, such as the professor's office @ the museum. Will there be more titles under the Secret Files heading I wonder?
"Light, casual fun", I enjoy adventure point-and-click games with a little thought behind them (e.g., Grim Fandango). Tunguska fit the bill perfectly. My fiance and I played it together, and the "puzzles" I thought were obscure made perfect sense to him, and vice versa. So I suppose none are truly obscure, it just depends a little on the way you think. I use quotes for "puzzles" because you rarely run into situations where you have to solve an unrelated put-the-chess-pieces-in-the-right-spot kind of puzzle in order to continue. Instead, it's a fairly logical game where the difficulties you solve are all related to the plot. The plot, by the way, has some holes (all computer-game plots do) but was overall entertaining and had some beautiful cutscenes. A lot was put into the scenery and graphics. I'm looking forward to the 2008 release of a related game, and will definitely buy it. Highly rated!
"Interesting and Enjoyable", I really enjoyed this game in spite of its flaws and there were flaws. There were some problems with "pixel" hunts in just about every section of the game. In spite of that, the game was fairly well thought out and the graphics were really good. When I first started the game, I felt that Nina's voice was a tad juvenile sounding but as I began to find myself immersed in the game, her voice began to be realized as befitting her character--it seemed to suit her. The many characters in the game were varied and interesting. The puzzles were many and most were fairly logical and except for the "pixel hunts" were enjoyable to solve. Even so this is a really great game and I am looking forward to the sequel.
"Nina must die!", I am currently playing Tunguska. The graphics are great, the puzzles so-so. Some are extremely easy, a few are so non-intuitive that I have had to resort to hints or walkthroughs and then been glad I broke down because I NEVER would have figured out the answer. Still, except for one terrible flaw, a reasonably good game. BUT the voice acting sucks so badly that, at times, I have had to turn off the sound--then, of course, you miss the ambient sounds of the environments which are pretty well done.
I have loved adventure games since I first fell onto Myst Island in 1995. For the most part, I have prefered first-person point and clicks--I'd rather wander and explore alone in interesting environments. Siberia 1 and 2 caused me to open up to third person games because the characters, dialogue and voice acting were engaging and amusing. Not so in Tunguska.
I can't believe the developers took what should have been a first class game and nearly ruined it with actors who sound like poor readers reading their lines out of context, with no clue as to what is happening in the action or what has just been said to them. Jeez. Really, really, really bad.
The Russian "train driver" has a strong Brooklyn accent. The main character, "Nina", sounds like a smug, obnoxious 14-year-old Valley Girl. Frequently, I'd like to slap her. When I find myself repeating, "Shut up, you little bimbo," I know it's time to turn off the sound again.
The humor is extremely non-funny middle-schoolesque.
It's true that the game is rated "Teen". In this case, the rating must be refering to the intellectual maturity level required to appreciate it. (Honestly, no offense meant to teenagers who may well like it. But, please, if you want the opportunity to mature, don't let Nina be a role model.)
I'm giving it a generous 3 stars because the graphics and the basic game play are pretty good. The dialogue and voice acting would get a minus 1 if that option were available.
Those over 15, be forewarned.
"Loved it!", This game has brought back my love for adventure games. The story is good (great even, by computer game standards). It keeps you engagend and you keep playing to see what happens next, and not just to solve the next puzzle.
The puzzles are fair. A bit on the easy side perhaps, but that allows you to progress at a resonable pace, so I count this as a positive. The interface is good too. In particular, I enjoyed the fature that allows to highlight all the clickable areas, which completely eliminates any pixel hunt. Well done!
Note: I played the German version of this. It has great voice acting. I am not sure whether that is the case in the English version or not (some reviews lead me to believe that it isn't as good).
