Others say...
"For girls under 8" My 10 year old wanted this toy for Christmas. She told me it was just ok. She expected it to be a lot of fun, and it was at first. I think this toy is for girls under 8 years old.
"False Advertising" The advertising for this toy makes it appear that you can create a realistic makeover using your own face. In reality, you can only make awful-looking "cartoon" type makeovers. This was a big disappointment to my 11 year-old daughter. Don't waste your money.
"Granddaughter's Christmas present" Our granddaughter( 8 y/o) received the Digi Makeover as a Christmas gift from us...she has not stopped playing it since then! I agree with others that the picture quality is not the best, but considering the cost and the age using it...it does well enough. We've found that the pictures taken in a bright light work the best. I am happy she has had so much enjoyment from the toy!
"GREAT GIFT FOR MY DAUGHTER" I bought this for my 10 year old daughter for Christmas. She loves it! I think it's great, it makes her do "chores" to earn money and then lets her "shop". She can chose to "study" or "practice". I feel it was a good purchase and would recommend it to anyone with a young girl!
"Quality stinks for the price you pay" My daughter (9) was given this for Christmas. She was really excited about it. My husband hooked it up to the television & she tried to play with it. Not that we expected the best but the picture quality was terrible. You could barely make out the features (unlike on the box where they make it look so clear). The instructions barely walked you through how to play with the features. We spent about 2 hours trying to figure it out only to decide to return it. Get a cheap 3-4 MP camera & a makeover software for about the same price!

What our customer's say!
"digi makeover", We got this for our 9 yr old daughter for Christmas. Our expectations were pretty low. Just a silly toy for taking pictures of mom, dad, little brothers and friends and dressing them up in make up and radical hairstyles for a laugh. If you're looking for a makeover game that creates a realistic makeover, then this is not the game for you. It's also not the kind of game that's played with daily. But fun for a party of young girls, or evening with the fam. As others said, camera requires very good lighting to work well, makeup is difficult to apply, instructions are poorly written.
"Wish I could give it ZERO STARS...", Perhaps I'm a little bias because I, myself, have been a computer programmer for over 25 years and design software that other people must use. Maybe I was just expecting too much from this Digi Makeover toy? I'm not sure. All I can say for sure is this: when I see a digital toy that is as bad as Digi Makeover is, it really makes me stop and wonder about the horrifically lame team of computer programmers that one would have to assemble in order for this product to come to life in such a pathetic way. In my view, you almost have to go out of your way to program software as bad as that which you find in Digi Makeover.
As I sit at my desk, I wonder "why did this product make it past the developers? How could something this unpleasant to play with get past a focus/test group? Were the people in the marketing department on vacation? Or were they in the parking lot running a meth lab when this game was designed and brought to market?". These are questions I wonder about now that my daughter has opened her Digi Makeover Christmas gift and subsequently lost interest in it in record time.
But I digress. Allow me to back up a bit...
While looking around for possible Xmas presents this year, I ran across Digi Makeover. What a fabulous idea: take a snap shot of yourself, then use the digital interface to add make-up. What little girl wouldn't go nuts over this? I envisioned this being the hit of Christmas this year, so naturally I ordered one straight away. It arrived and the packing looked first rate. When my daughter opened it, she was very excited and out of all her presents, this was the one she wanted to try first.
We rounded up the 4 AA batteries required and attached it to the AV port of our Sony TV. While the girls played around, I read through the manual. Now.. when I bought this gift, it looked like you could snap a picture of yourself, then start drawing on your face and/or you could add make-up, etc. I thought it would be great fun for everyone. I quickly found out I was mistaken. As mentioned, I have developed software for a number of years, so I guess I projected how I would have setup the user interface on this product. Naturally, when you think "digital makeover", you picture someone using a digital pen to add lipstick and eye liner, etc. Maybe draw a hat or eye patch or something. Right? Wrong. The user interface on this product is absolutely horrible. There is no nice way to say it: it's a joke. You are limited to using a cryptic series of buttons and canned images - none of which allow any sort of artistic or fluid design to take place. Additionally, the camera quality of the unit is awful. The stock images (of other people) are good quality. However, when you take a picture of yourself, it comes out dark and grainy. Whatever camera they stuck in this thing, the resolution is a joke.
The first thing you want to do with this game is take a snap shot of yourself and draw lipstick on or something like that - but you can't. You can select from a menu of features, but they leave a lot to be desired. You are continually forced to use a strange set of confusing controls to make items larger or smaller. Even my girlfriend couldn't really enjoy or figure it out. I tried it, but was very disappointed in how limited the interface and functionality of the unit was. Our 8 year old daughter basically gave up and didn't even want to attempt to use the bizarre controls which Digi Makeover employs. I think I would have had more luck teaching her to use AutoCAD.
All in all, this product falls flat on its face. I really have to wonder if anyone at the company ever tried to use this thing and/or took it home to their kids. Let me put it another way... if I was running the team of programmers who produced the code and GUI for Digi Makeover, I would have likely fired the entire development team and started taking new resumes shortly after seeing the end result. At the least, I would have shot the head programmer in the neck and let that be a warning to the rest of the developers: "don't come back a 2nd time with a product this bad". But hey, that's just me... my management style may differ somewhat from the folks at Girl Tech, who knows.
Let me just sum it up like this: SAVE YOUR MONEY - because this is one digital toy that really misses the mark in a major way. Digi Makeover? That's actually a good title, because if there is one thing this toy really needs, it's a digital makeover!
"Good fun for young girls", I got this for my 11 year-old daughter for Christmas. She has had a lot of fun with it, although it can be hard to take a good picture. The pics do come out a little blurry, but you can still have a lot of fun designing your face.
"CAN BE FUN", MY DAUGHTER HAS BEEN REQUESTING THIS TOY ALONG WITH A MILLION OTHER TOYS FOR THE PAST TWO CHRISTMAS. INSTEAD OF GETTING IT ON CHRISTMAS, SHE RECEIVED IT AS A REWARD FOR ALWAYS MAKING THE HONOR ROLL AT SCHOOL. SHE WAS SO EXCITED. SHE OPEN IT IMMEDIATELY AND BEGAN TAKING PICTURES OF HERSELF AND HER COUSINS. THE CAMERA TAKES A PICTURE OF THE PERSON AND THEY APPEAR ON THE T.V. YOU CAN ADD DIFFERENT HAIRSTYLE TO SEE HOW YOU LOOK. THE CONCEPT IS NICE BUT LIMITED. AFTER THIRTY MINUTES, MY DAUGHTER WAS BORED WITH IT. MY DAUGHTER IS TEN YEARS OLD AND IS GOOD WITH FIGURING THINGS OUT. IT ONLY TOOK HER THIRTY MINUTES TO DO EVERYTHING IT COULD DO.
"Disappointing for the price", I bought this for my 7-year old daughter for Christmas. She saw it in a magazine and asked for it. I was skeptical based on the other reviews but I bought it anyway. The picture quality is very poor even after using bright lights. My daughter ended up just playing with the existing models that it comes with and seemed to be happy with that but for what I paid, this is a waste of money.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Hard to work, digital part is primitive", My kids got this for Christmas last year. It was difficult to get a decent picture from the camera. You have to set it up exactly the same size as the example. Picture came out grainy and dark. If you don't size it right the eyebrows can end up on your nose in the makeover, etc.
The actual makeover part uses very simple and limited graphics. The girls got frustrated and lost interest. They were 10. They expect more from technology nowadays.
"Digi Makeover", I have never been so disappointed with a toy purchase for my children and grandchildren. On the box it shows a clear picture of a girl's face. Ha!! My granddaughter and I took picture after picture in different lighting and nothing helped! The pictures were awful - nothing like the picture on the box. Dark, grainy image and when you put the make-up on the picture of your face on the screen it won't set where it should. Lipstick above the lips, etc. I hate for anyone else to waste money on this awful toy. It is not an inexpensive toy and it should work like the package says. False Advertising! All who feel as I do should complain to the company.
"ugh", Unless they've updated this product and really overhauled it, don't buy it. The camera takes incredibly horrible pictures and the make-up looks clownish. Really a disappointment.
"This is so fun!", My daughter loves this game. She took the picture in a well lit room and the picture was just fine. She also was able to read and understand the instructions and played the game with no adult assistance. She intends to play with this a long time!
"False Advertisement", This product does not perform NEARLY as well as it is advertised. The makeovers given to the 'models' look ok, but the makeovers given to yourself (or anyone you take a picture of) look ridiculous. The makeup looks like it is painted on and does not line up properly with the facial features. Also, the hair does not even fit the face of the picture. Basically, you end up looking like a circus clown when you do your own makeover. Two thumbs down...I can't believe the hype this toy got.
