"great book" Not only did I get the DVDrom delived quickly, it also works very well and is easy to navigate. Not to mention that the Ultimate X-Men books themselves are fantastic. Really a good buy.
"great deal for $10" I got turned on to the Ultimate Universe last year, adn when I saw this I thought it'd be a great way to catch up. Yea, they're scans of the actual books, but they look great. There's one bad page where the top is cut off and you lose a couple lines of dialogue, but it turned out it was printed like that in the first place, not a bad scan. I was confused that the watermark was appearing at home on my mac but not at work, but that turned out to be becasue my mac was using Preview to open the files. Adobe Acrobat opens them without without the watermark.
Overall, a great deal, but PLEASE put out other Ultimate series!!! As mentioned, there are big plot gaps where stuff had obviously happened in other titles. I could definately see digital distibution of comics in the near future!
"It's a good read" I never really had these comics to read myself. I had a roommate who subscribed in college and I would occasionally read one here or there. So I decided to get this and get caught up. Enjoyed the stories and the resolution was fine. Navigation was adequate, could have been a little better.
Biggest plus is that it's not Windows Only! I was able to easily use it on my Linux Desktop and my MacBook Pro. Not problems with either.
My only recommendation is to read it on the biggest sharpest screen you have (20" LCD worked well, the 15.4" Laptop display was pushing it).
"A good buy" Only complaint is that it is only 69 issues plus one annual. But at 14cents a comic it aint bad.
"Awesome Product!!" I love Marvel Comics and was curious about comics in digital format. I decided to try Ultimate X-Men first because it was the cheapest one available. I thought that if I didn't like it it wouldn't be that big of a deal to spend $10. I will say this...I will own every title that Marvel puts out on DVD-ROM (except Ghost Rider). It is awesome to have this many comics at your fingertips. Iron Man, Daredevil, and Thor will be out later in the year and I can't wait.
P.S. It does take some getting used to reading these on a computer screen but be patient it is worth it.
P.P.S. DC Comics please take note!!

What our customer's say!
"I wish they had more Ultimate titles on disc -- this is great!", GIT really did a fine job with these comic collections. Too bad Marvel is now going totally online and won't let anyone have the actual comics in hand anymore. *sigh* Oh, well -- but if you can get it used (or from GIT), go for it. It's definitely worth the money!
"Works fine on a Mac; a great bargain.", What comes in the box: A single CD in a DVD-style clamshell with a protective sleeve. The CD contains dozens of comic books in PDF format, plus Mac and Windows installers for Adobe Acrobat Reader 6. The comics are scans from printed comic books, so you can see the page seams, staples, etc. in the scans. The scans are of good quality.
Using the CD: I loaded this CD into both a 12" G4 iBook and a Core Solo Mac Mini with a 22" widescreen monitor. I was able to read the comics on both Macs without problems. Since the comics are PDF files, I tried to view them in both Preview (the preinstalled Apple app) and Adobe Acrobat Reader. Both programs work fine, except that in Preview, a large "MARVEL" watermark is distractingly visible in the center of each page. That's too bad, since Preview will remember the last page viewed and jump right to it (newer versions of Acrobat Reader do this too; but not version 6 that comes on the CD).
There is a "start.pdf" file in the top-level folder of the CD. It contains links to each year of comics (2001 - 2006); a link to the 2006 "Annual" comic book; a link to the "Bios" (biographies and backstories for the various mutants and groups), a link to send email to tech support for the CD; and a link to the Marvel.com website. Clicking on a year's link opens another PDF file with links to each of the individual books from that year. The individual books can of course also be opened directly; they're all in sub-folders organized by year.
To view the comics on the iBook's 12" screen, I needed to switch to full-screen view (available in both Preview and Reader) and then select the "fit page to screen" option, so that the comics completely filled the screen. After doing this, the text in the comics was small but clear, and I was able to read it with a little squinting.
On the Mini's 22" screen, putting the comics in full-screen mode was a treat; they were larger than the printed comic books and made it easy to really appreciate the artwork.
Verdict: This CD contains a lot of comic books. It is well executed for the price. Reading the comics on a desktop Mac is a pleasure. Reading them on a compact laptop is doable; the CD is a good option to throw in the laptop's case for long trips, as it'll provide many hours of entertainment and could prove quite handy in airport layovers, hotel rooms with limited TV and internet options, etc. Definitely worth the price!
"Convenient, but less than stellar quality", I have been a fan of the X-Men for many, many years. I decided to purchase this Ultimate X-Men Collection first, to see if I really liked it before purchasing larger collections on CD-ROM.
It is very convenient to have all of these comic books sitting on my laptop, allowing me to read them pretty much wherever I go. I only gave the collection 3 stars for two reasons: 1. The scan quality is poor, primarily because the colors are washed out, and 2. The PDF's can only be viewed in Acrobat Reader.
Because of the two issues listed above, I don't think I will be buying any of the other collections on CD-ROM. If you want to see for yourself, buy this collection FIRST, as it is one of the cheaper ones. But I would recommend purchasing the actual books rather than the CD-ROM version.
"X-men collector", Don't have the time to go out and hunt down the printed books , me niether so i bought this .
It's in pdf format , so sit back and read untill your eyes water , all you need is a PC or mac and adobe reader . I like it a lot , I just copy the CD contents to my hard drive and use Adobe reader to zoom in and out on hard to read areas .
X-men fans , buy this collection.
"Ultimate X-Men Complete Comic Book Collection on cd-rom", Looks brand new- but haven't opened it yet. More than 70 comic books on these cd-roms. Had I purchased the comic books it would have cost more than $210.00 so I'm very happy to be able to read the coolest x-men comic book title. All the comics in a row from February 2001 thru May 2006. Plus it's nice to be able to read many issues one after the other at one sitting; instead of waiting for one story every month. I can read a year's worth of comic books in one sitting this way.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Reading comics on a computer screen is not awesome", If you're in the place I was before purchasing this CD-ROM collection, you're asking yourself whether or not you're going to enjoy reading comics on your computer screen, in an Adobe Acrobat format. Well, if you're also like me in that you have a small laptop, I think the answer is "not really.' I certainly got my money's worth in time spent reading, as I couldn't breeze through the thing like I would in trades, but by issue 20-something the constant clicking and dragging started to grate on me, and I gave up. If you have a huge computer screen, or if the money aspect is that appealing (let's face it, that's a lot for $20), then go for it. For the Wednesday lovers like me, however, this format feels not ready for prime time.
"loved it", This is a great way to enjoy comics of the past. I enjoyed reading them all. One thing that use to get on my nerves is you buy a comic and the story is never finished, and you may never read the ending of the story if you can't get the next issue. This was great because I could read each issue without wondering what happened they are all there for me to read. I hope they continue to put the most popular back issues on CD/DVD. It is just great!
"Just what I wanted", It's exactly what I wanted to buy: Complete collection of Ultimate X-Men. I don't mind scrolling up and down on my laptop in order to see the whole picture. The ads were kind of annoying though. I just hope Marvel puts all the other X-Men series on cds like this.
"Great read!!", I had a hard time putting this one down. I quickly read through the entire collection and it was over too quickly. I would recommend this to any X-men fan especially fans of the old comic books and it certainly takes up a lot less room than if I had the hardcopy versions. My only complaint is that it ends at the beginning of a new story. Ah well...
"Definitely a bargain, but...", At seventy issues for ten bucks, this collection is definitely a steal. The comics are PDF files, which isn't a problem, but I have reservations about the files. One, these are scans of comic books, not reproductions from original computer art. Not only will you see old expired ads, but also staples and comic book folds. Two, you will want to read these on a large monitor. I couldn't read the font on my notebook screen, and could read it at 125% on my larger monitor. Three, the "Marvel (TM)" is on every page, though I didn't have any problems with this. Four, this is a PDF file, and you cannot export JPG files, a pity since these pages would make *great* wallpaper. But, again, for less than the price of a graphic novel reprint, you have six years of the Ultimate XMen, starting from the first issue to today. With these caveats, recommended.
