"macbook power cord rot"
Both of my children have macbooks, they use them at home, and they are careful enough with them. BUT, the power cord adapters keep breaking, fraying off at the point where the wire and the connector meet. At first I thought maybe the children were mishandling them, but after the first go-round, they were so careful, and still the problem returns. At $80 a whack, this is getting outrageous! And using a frayed adapter is dangerous, no?? Hello... Apple... wake-up on this issue...this is a defective product and needs a recall/reissue.

"Piece of junk!"
I am on my third adapter in the past year, the plastic wire cover breaks at the connecter and no longer functions. After the first two went out I was extremly careful about using this cord and it still broke! and as Apple has a patent on this product I cant get one by a different manufacturer, I am stuck ordering yet another one. Let me know if someone is starting a law suit over this one!

"Foiled Once Again by Steve Jobs! "
Allow me to preface this review by saying that I am in no way irresponsible with my MacBook, as in fact after nearly a year, it is still in great condition. However, I am annoyed with this particular 'accesory,' which is hardly an accesory due to its vitality to the entire computer using problem. Despite appropriate caution, this power cord is constantly the source of woe for me-- the first time, the cord just suddenly snapped while in use, perhaps because of consumer ignorance, but it certainly didn't seem as though keeping it totally straight was a prerequisite. $80 later, and I am taking appropriate measure of caution with my new adapter. However, I suppose that the fact that I use a very sturdy, heavy desk chair didn't occur to me, as after getting caught under the wheel of said chair, seems to have just short circuited. I am certainly not one to jump to accusations, but to me it seems that their effort to put 'functionality and design' on the forefront, Apple has sorely neglected half of that promise: while the adapter certainly looks nice, it is useless to me if the only thing it does is raise funds for more inferior products to create a perpetual chain. Forgive me, Mr. Jobs, if I choose not to buy my next computer from you, then.

"Superior design at cost"
My Macbook is 7 months old. It's well traveled. My six year old misuses it. And I've never had any problems.

I thought I might get an extra one for the office. I'd never pay 70+ dollars for it if I didn't have to. Value:Cost ratio certainly knocks off a star.

"Absolute crap!"
I really enjoy the idea of this item as it will definitely save some careless people headaches. However, I have two MacBooks in my home and have gone through six of these adaptors in eight months, which breaks down to 1.33 a month! The cords consistently separate at the connecter. I suppose if your laptop remained on a desk and you didn't travel a lot it'd last longer. They need to reinforce the wire where the cord and the adaptor tip meet. I would NOT buy one of these as an extra one, because it is highly probable you'll have an issue and if you buy them over the counter you only get a 14 day return policy. At least with the MacBook purchase it covers you from one-three years depending on if you bought AppleCare.

What our customer's say!

"Adaptor sent by Amazon is fake, lousy and a fire hazard! Do not order from here!!!!", Amazon selected a seller that sent me a non-apple substitute for my purchase. It failed electrically after two hours of use - burned through the cord and melted the white plastic. We have two other true Apple adapters in our household and I would rate them 5 stars. After three weeks of waiting for the seller to resolve this issue and another week of waiting for Amazon to resolve this issue, nothing has been done about my faulty, fake charger. I rate Amazon no stars and will NEVER use them again. In summary, an Apple charger is a fantastic product, but don't purchase it from Amazon. You will not get what you are expecting, neither in product nor in service!

"Great idea poorly executed", Another voice with the same experience: I use my Mac with care, no special handling, and the cord frayed and got very hot just at that juncture with the magnetic head. AppleCare took care of the situation, and within 48 hours I had a new one (although they shipped only the central element, and not the plug nor the long cord that attaches to the outlet). That's okay with me because I have those parts from the original. But the inconvenience of even losing just one work day is very frustrating, because that's what happened, at a time when I couldnt' afford to be idle.
I wish someone would invent a competing product of the same kind, with magnetic attachment, because that is a great idea. When your dog sidles up to you and sits on the cord, it's good that the cord will simply detach. (And no, I don't believe that activity is enough to account for the fraying and loss at the magnet head.)
Poorly done, Apple!

"Nice while it lasts.. then *POOF* Burnout... at magnetic connection ..", There's a major flaw in design of this apple power adapter, and
it's the ultra thin cord and its common point of bending at where
it connects to the macbook, specifically at just before the magsafe
ending. After using my macbook for a year, the cord suddenly smelled
like it was burning.. the covering on the cord melted off.. sparked
smoked some more.. then kaput completely, argh! googled cost for new
one, $80 bucks a pop. Checked out apple's site for reviews on same
adapter and same problem came up with others.. over and over again.
I luv apple comps., but this power adapter is faulty. Go read the
reviews at apple's site! Almost 600 now, and most negative.. having
same burnout happening to others in usually same spot. I suggest
contacting your local apple service center and getting the tech
support number with Apple and talking with them before dishing out
your mula. I'll grab a new one if they don't replace, but will
definately re-inforce this area around magnetic end so as not to
create a stresspoint that breaks the connection. Just a heads-up.

"Breaks Easily", the 'MagSafe' feature is really impressing. But this cord is delicate. I bought my macbook 10 months ago and last night when I lifted my mackbook from the bed while the magsafe cord was still attached, the connector stayed with the laptop and the cord fell apart.....I didnt realize this until I happened to touch near the connector and felt something coming out of laptop.

Be careful while you use it, its also freaking expensive! $80+ for a piece.

One suggestion, from now on, after buying a new cord I am going to tape it near the joints several times to make the cable stronger.

"Must have at least one extra", I've had two of these since we bought a MacBook November 2006. They've both worked great at the office, at home, and on the road, never any problems.

"Apple elegance but typically incomplete", This simple device is elegantly designed both visually and functionally. The magnetic connector to the MacBook is brilliant with indicator LEDs on both sides of the plug so you can see status with any orientation of the plug. The magnetic attachment is strong but detaches before the Mac is yanked by a sudden tug. Both a power cable and a wall-wart style power plug are provided and securely and easily slide-on the non-standard socket so you can't get a replacement except from Apple. Both are USA wall plug compatible but other Worldwide wall plug standards are not included even though this is a travelling Mac (this power adaptor automatically switches between 110-230 volts). Plugs for all standards are available but not easy to find and, as usual, very expensive compared to standard sockets. The only available power connections I've found are expensive packages that include one each of all Worldwide standard plugs, even if you only need one non-USA standard plug, ie European.
