"Pinnacle's slogan should be "This is idiot proof software"...."
The fact that you purchased our software after several hundred 1 star reviews is proof that you're an idiot (high five). I tried using the trial version with Vista, no-go. Vista didn't like it so I called the sales dept at Pinnacle and the sales guy said that the full version was compatible. After going back to Pinnacle's website I read where the latest version was beta, it might work with Vista but we're not sure and by the way it's not supported by Pinnacle. So I loaded it on another PC with XP and it took 45 minutes to install, then 2 minutes to start up and 2 seconds to crash. Uninstalled it and sure enough it hosed the SQL server version that XP installed. So even the free trial cost me a lot of my time which I don't consider free.

"High Price & Low Quality"
I have Sony camcorder that create AVCHD files. Thus, in order to burn to regular DVD I have to convert to mpeg2 files. After I converted all the files and used this software to burn it. It stopped 4 or 5 times and I had to give up. The files are still on my computer and I don't know what to do with them now.
A few other projects I had done successfully with this software. However, I think I need another software beside this to edit my DVD since I don't 100% trust this software.
What you pay here is very basic video editting. You will have to buy/upgrade for 5.1 channels and other features. Don't expect too much from this program.

"Bloatware"
This is the biggest piece of bloatware I've ever seen. Just to give you an idea of how bloated this is, it installs its own copy of SQL Server (which by the way might screw up your existing SQL Server installations like it did mine). Whoever was the 'architect' for this product should be fired asap.

"Pinnacle or Nadir?"
Among stiff competition, this has to be a contender for the worst software ever, particularly in its price category. Almost nothing works, options are preset and cannot be changed. For example, if you use a separate HD you cannot select it as an option. Forget about the monikers 'plus' and 'special' with 'extras'. If the package I got indeed comes with 'extras' the bare-bones software must consist only of an opening screen that says, "got you sucker...one born every minute". The software is counter-intuitive, doesn't actually work and it is very time consuming to establish this. If you bought it, uninstall it, toss it and cut your losses and buy something else. This will drive you to drink.

"Downgrade form Studio 9!!"
Studio 9 worked but would occasionally crash. Thought I'd upgrade to 10.6. Installed the program, which took forever. Then installed the patch. Then installed the new driver. Now it will not show transition thumbnails, so it is like playing "Concentration" trying to remember which blank square holds which transition. Then, it refused to remove clips from the timeline, despite the fact that they were deleted from playback. It just made a frameshift, so that the timeline no longer matched playback. Then, it would not show any thumbnails in the timeline except those originally visible.

Don't waste your money. I may re-install Studio 9 or just bite the bullet and learn to use the more difficult but more predictable interface of Premiere Elements. Studio 10 is a very disappointing product.

What our customer's say!

"Do not buy this!!", The reviews are accurate. I used it for the first time this morning and it has crashed with blue screen EVERY time. Biggest waste of money I have spent so far on video editing. Believe the reviews!!!

"Poor quality output.", Video output at 100% quality is pixellated. The product mangles the raw footage when it brings it in. I have a Sony HD camcorder FX1 and it takes remarkable video. It might as well be a $500.00 el cheapo because of what Pinnacle does to it upon rendering.

"Would rate it lower than 1 if I could.", WORST... SOFTWARE... EVER! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME LIKE MYSELF AND SO MANY OTHER POOR SOULS DID! Read the reviews, cnet also. Go to the Pinnacle Support User Forum Site (pinnaclesys dot com) and read the countless people who can't get it to work.

This software just doesn't work, end of story. You will be more upset about your time wasted than your money, buy anything but this. Render error, render error, render error... you will have nightmares about crashes and render errors, no wait, they are real. The only person who should buy this is the smart lawyer who is going to start the class action lawsuit against Pinnacle for selling us something that is not even beta quality, it is pure crapware, try to make anything longer than 20 minutes with transitions and it does not work, period.

"Like the Plague", I wanted PC videocapture to record shows and VHS conversions, and I owned the Pinnaclesys PCI card and the USB (silver blue) hardware; I used Studio Plus 9.4 and 10.5.

I finally gave up on the USB box and Studo 10.5 on my P4 and went back to the previous 9.4, the only version that would halfway work; I used the PCI card with the red breakout box. Half the time the sound and video would be off, but I managed to re-edit the timelines. I spent 2 years with this product (Studio 9.4) and it worked, but 10.5 was buggy as all heck and unusable even with all the patches.

In short while the Pinnacle hardware PCI card was ok, the software was a complete disaster, and other programs like Premiere Elements wouldn't read the MPeg files created by Pinnacle or else the sound was a mile off.

I finally last month bought a Hauppauge USB Personal Video Recorder and tossed all my Pinnaclesys stuff in the dumpster (sorry, landfill!) I didn't want to even sell it for peanuts because that would be like selling a cheap car that would injure someone. With Ulead Studio plus, the Hauppauge is a dream come true comparatively.

My advice is, shun any Pinnaclesys product like the plague, unless you enjoy beating yourself up with inferior products. They keep releasing new versions that don't work or are worse than the previous versions.

"Don't give up hope", Like many other users who suffered through Studio 9 and the patches, I was looking for another program. I endured countless crashes and freezes in the past while spending hours of my life editing. I was about to give up, when I bought Studio 10.5 last month. After updating it to 10.7 online I have had no problems at all. From simple to huge builds, the program hasn't crashed once and burns every time. I was looking at spending $1000's to get a new computer, but the Studio 10.5 saved me the trouble . I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes their Studio 9 and doesn't want to learn a new product.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Best software for its price", Let me start by saying that I've tried every program out there other than the really expensive stuff. I have tried Vegas, Premier and other third party titles. Nothing would properly edit my HD video. I have a full 1080i camcorder and I just couldn't get the quality out of any programs.

Now you might consider this program trash if you read the other reviews. I have not had one problem with it. That can't be said for any other program I've used. I will have to say I built my computer custom from the ground up. It's powerful and that might be the reason I have no complaints. This program is very intense in system requirements. Don't trust the box. You need more than it tells you. Here are the real requirements.

You need at least 1Gb of RAM. The program on average uses around 400mb of RAM and sometimes more. You also need a good processor. You are NOT going to run this program flawlessly on a cheap computer. If you don't have at least a dual core Intel processor then you won't get much performance. I recommend an AMD Athlon X2 processor. It's much faster and more reliable with absolutely no hangups. You better have a separate hard drive for your video. It takes up a lot of space and will need good access to it. Putting it on the same drive as windows is a big mistake and will cause freeze up issues.

This program doesn't have all of the bells and whistles out of the box. You can capture, edit and create media right out of the box even in HD quality. It also has extra packages and expansions you can buy for more features. You can save in tons of formats including PSP, MPEG2, MPEG4, AVI, DIVX and more. It's easy to just click and save in whatever format you want, even for web use. No program is as easy to just save a file in the exact format you want. It even saves into an ISO file or direct to DVD with just a couple clicks and you can choose the quality without confusion.

Conclusion
You should have a good PC to run this program well. This program is very intense and takes some power. To edit HDV you need a good video card. I recommend something with HD playback ability like the GeForce 7950 GT PCI-e. I have saved files in multiple formats and they all work well. This program saves to file and DVD quicker than any other I've used. If you can't afford an expensive program like AVID software then this is a good choice.

"Good Concept but Product Does Not Live Up", I have been using Studio 8 for some time to edit videos, add titles and menus, and adjust audio and video. Other than an occasional crash, Studio 8 actually worked well, was easy to use, and had many features only found in high-end video production products.

I was excited when Pinnacle came out with 10.5 Titanium. I had read the reviews about Version 10 and problems, but I figured they were now on version 10.5 and all the problems had been worked out. Whoa, was I ever wrong. First of all, Studio 10.5 crashed when installing the bonus CD that came with it. Next, the activation key that comes with registering the bonus did not work. Tryed again, reinstall and activate or unlock a feature and still did not work. Okay, so I can't use that feature, lets fire it up and create a video. My editing system is not the newest but by no means is it a slouch either. I have a 1.8gh system with 1gb ram and an 128mb 8x-AGP NVidia graphics card. The first thing I noticed upon reboot is the additional 3 services Pinnacle added to my system startup to slow it down. When I first fired up Studio 10, it took nearly 2 minutes for the program splash to go away and program to come up. I then imported a video from DVD -- another 10 minutes for 40 minute video. Okay, so now I have a video and everything is great, lets start editing. First thing I noticed is wow, this is really, I mean really, slow. Adding a simple text caption takes about 2 minutes after waiting for 3 hour glasses (one to open the add text caption, one to set options, and one to save your text caption and update the video). Next I wanted to check out all the great features of the Titanium edition. Hey, all the features are premium. Okay, I will just click on the link to add this feature. Good Gosh, another $20 bucks for just one feature that I have in version 8. Wait somethings not right. Yep, thats right, got a lot of features that 8 does not have but they are all locked. You have to pay $10 to $20 for each package and there are tons of them. So, I decided to make just a basic video with a basic menu. I created a 12 minute video with 4 chapters and main menu. Next I clicked on Make Movie and Create DVD. Set up to burn to DVD direct and clicked go. After 20 minutes, the menu still had not been rendered. I left the house and came back 4 hours later only to find out it was still rendering movie.

Conclusion: I now have Studio 8 back on my system. I have several systems and loaded Pinnacle Studio 10.5 on a Athlon64 running Vista with 1gb Ram and Radeon 9600 and it is not much better. Both systems were updated to the 10.7 patch. I have numerous problems and not one has been answered by Pinnacle support. My main menus only render black boxes instead of thumbnails. Pinnacles answer is they are aware of this and it will be released as a future feature. Future feature, they had it working fine way back in version 7. If you have hours upon hours to do video editing, have the patience of Job, and can afford to shell out a few hundred dollars for features of which many are in 8, then this is the video editor for you. For everyone else, make sure you try the download from Pinnacle first. You cannot return this product to Pinnacle once it is opened. Their answer is this product is provided without any warranties or guarantees.

"Pinnacle", I was not very satisfied with this product. I could not get the software installed, so I called tech support and they informed me to uninstall the software, and then reinstall it, but to uninstall it I would have to download a uninstall utility to do this. I did this and it wiped some of my Windows software out. I had the 10.6 version I think. I sent it back and asked for my money back. Amazon informed me they would, but have not received yet.
My son came over and helped me with this program, but he could not get it to install either. He is a Computer Science graduate.

"Best in Class, But With (Maybe) an Annoyance", I have had almost no problems with this software, and have to admit being perplexed about the wide range of reviews here. Many people are reporting all sorts of instability, crash after crash, problems with installations, etc. They're obviously not making up stories, but I haven't had any of those problems except one. I had no problems with installation; it was smooth as silk, and instantly recognized the capture card that came with Studio 9. I installed Studio in two other computers at the same time, and had no problems with those either. (By the way, I highly recommend getting the PCI version. It has ports for every type of video and is a snap to install -- open the case, drop the card into a PCI slot, and close the case.) The program itself has all sorts of new capabilities. I did my son's wedding video with the help of a new feature, A/B editing, and some of the new transitions. I haven't used (yet) the blue screen capacity or ability to edit in high definition, but look forward to doing so. The basics of the interface remain the same, which means it's as intuitive as ever. It does its one job, DVD authoring, brilliantly. Studio comes with an actual manual, and the book by Jan Ozer is an excellent complement to it. I don't know about Pinnacle tech support, because while I have used Studio for over nearly three years (started with 9.0), I've never had to call it. I've encountered a stability problem, but even this is mitigated by the fact that when I restart Studio, it asks if I want to go back to the current project. I click "yes" and am back exactly where I was before, with nothing lost. Is this a big problem? No. Is it an annoyance? Yes. It may not even be that any more: Since I installed the free version 10.7 update, I haven't had a crash -- and there's so much else good about Studio that I can't take it out of 5-Star territory. This is still the best video editing program in its price class.

"Easy to use once I cleared up the firewire problem", Hi,
I've been using Pinnacle Studio since version 8, didn't do much with 8 or 9, but went to version 10 when I really had a lot of video to edit and put on DVD. 10 crashed alot, mostly to do with capturing, and I went through a lot of updates etc, but nothing seemed to help, until I switched to a combo firewire and analog capture card, and my problems all went away. There was something about the integrated firewire port and driver on my ASUS motherboard that didn't jibe with Studio. But with the combo card firewire port, everything is working fine, and I really like the ease of use, i'm getting to be an old dog and new tricks are difficult.
