"Router Resets" I 've installed this on 3 pc's and 1 network printer and have had problem with having to reset it. The resets were for not being able to see other pc's and loosing connection with network printer internet. I've had another wired router on these pc's before and had no reset problem of this magnitude. I've updated to latest firmware but still problems. I might have return for another router. not happy.
"Never worked in N-draft mode" It took a few hours to learn how to download the latest firm ware for the router and n-draft adapter (both from d-link).
The wired connections worked great.
The wireless conections worked fine for the B (add-on D-link notebook adapter) and G (built-in adapter) laptops, but the other 2 laptops that had the N-draft adapters would not work. One n-draft adapter was from dell in a brand-new 1505, the other n-draft adapter was from DLINK. Scary that the dlink adapter would not connect to the dlink router.
Even with all of the security disabled, the N-draft adapters would not connect to the router. With security enabled, and taking all of the right steps to set it up, nothing would connect to the router. It refused to recognize the security key.
After being on hold for an hour, Dlink tried to help me. They gave me about 20 minutes of support before dropping the call. Basically, they gave up and said that I should return it.
Three weeks ago, I mailed the items to Amazon. It was well within the 30 day window from the date of purchase. I am still waiting for a refund. Why does it take so long?
Obviously, I can not give this product a good review. Between the headache of dlink, and the slow response for my refund, this has been a miserable experience.
Dell tech support recommends the Netgear N-draft router. Once Amazon refunds me my money, that's what I'll buy.
"Not very good range" I bought this hoping for a greater range and was not happy with it. I returned it because every time I used my 2.4G cordless phone in the house, my internet connection got drop. This is NOT acceptable. D-Link needs to take a lesson in design from Apple.
"The fastest wireless router I've worked with" I have used a large number of routers and this is by far the fastest one I have ever used. I have a minor complaint about the software, sometimes the feedback that indicates you've made a change does not work, so your not always sure that what you did took. But it does and otherwise it's performance has been great, set up is simple and straight forward and if you want to dig into the high end networking it's got all the depth you could want with tons of customizations available.
"Don't buy it for extended range with existing WiFi adapters" I use the built-in WiFi on my laptop and the range of this router is worst than my old Westel router. The signal level increased from "Good" to "Excellent" but the connection dropped often and I need to bring my laptop close to the router to reconnect. I think the router transmits the signal with higher power but it could not receive the signal back from my laptop. I tried using two Hawking HiGain (+6dB) antennas but connection still dropped but less often. I was able to get "Very Good" signal with my old Westel wireless router from Verizon DSL service. Just to be fair, I did not try using MIMO PC adapter which DLink probably have tested for increased range. The increased power is needed on both PC and the router. I positioned both routers and external (Omni directional) antennas on the same desk. It's very easy to use though, everything is configured via a browser. If you are using old Windows, the older Firmware does not support WEP, only WPA. I've upgraded mine to FW v.1.09 but still the same problem. Bottom line: don't buy this for increased range if you're planning to use existing WiFi adapter. You will be better off getting a WiFi repeater or HiGain antenna or re-position your antenna.

What our customer's say!
"Hard to say it's worth it", I went with a unit costing over $100 as I was tired of those $50 units dieing after a year or not performing well. This unit so far hasn't died but it also falls short on some of it's claims. My expectation is anyone looking at spending more than $25 for a router on sale has the knowledge level of somebody wanting to tweak more advance routing features.
First off my biggest problem with this unit is it's PPTP support which it claims it fully supports. Like so many other units out there this unit has issues passing the traffic correctly and what you will find is either the unit works well doing a PPTP connecton out or in but not both ways consistantly. The problem is in the Application Layer Gateway which resets itself by default when you screw around with the PPTP settings. ALG off appears to work best but then incoming PPTP will drop after 3 minutes or so.
Anyway I reproduced this over and over and documented for DLink support to which they said they would reproduce and get back to me. In speaking directly with their technical support, Eric French, they said they would work on this issue and get back to me however after two weeks and no return call I attempted to contact Kevin and DLink over and over both by voice and email only to get voicemail and no responses to emails.
The firmware for this unit is years old and has not been updated so it appears it is an dead product. The stock antennas suck and for decent range you need a 7db or higher external antenna. The unit can be easily flooded with packets causing it to not really lock up but need a reboot to get performance back.
I would not buy this unit again, would not recommend for my own customers but at least it's not died like so many sub $50 units do after a year.
"Rock Solid with hundeds of simultaneous connections", Thsi router provides rock solid stable performance. If you use Bit-torrent or other technologies that leverage P2P (Peer to Peer) your computer is going to be receiving bits of data from potentially hundreds of other machines at the same time. These connections must be managed by the router. If there are small problems in the resource management of the router, when put under the stress of Peer-to-Peer technologies over long periods of time (days and weeks), these little problems en up crashing other routers. This D-Link is simply super-solid and contains tons of functionality - I'm using it with four systems wirelessly and two wired. I am only using 802.11g functionality and did not test pre-N functionality.
"FTP Problems", This router did not allow me to upload to certain websites using various ftp software.
Tech support was terrible.
Also, speed of the router was nothing special.
Very dissapointed with this product.
"Awesome", My wirless now averages about 300-400 MB, with my Linksys-G i could not even get a signal in my concrete block house.
If you want a real firewall, get this. This is not the cheesy pick an application crap. This has every option and more. You can reboot this router from the web interface as well.
All around great router, Wireless-N, gigabit, what more could you ask for?
"how new is the pc ", For all those writing a review for this product, it would be really helpful if you mentioned how many cpu's your computer is. I have a pentium 4 2 GB. and am wondering if this router will work well for me. I want to network it to an even older pc, a windows 98 pentium 800! So it will help to know if anyone else has an older pc it works with. Thanks!

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Perfect", The gadget is just perfect. It is very fast and easy to install. I did not epxperience any problem. I can easily get full signals even from downstairs rooms. The delivery was also done without delay. It arrived earlier than I expected it.
"Good product with some caveats", It came with no printed instructions except for "insert cd, cross fingers." Fortunately, the cd contains a pdf version of the manual, so I did not have to trust them to not have their way with my computer.
It took a lot less time to get up and running than I expected. The menus are more intuitive than usual.
It has a maximum transfer speed of 100 megabits/second, while most new computers are ten times that fast. (on paper anyway)
Oddly enough, it will inform you that a new version of its firmware has been released, but then you have to find it and download it on your own.
When I downloaded the new firmware (1.07), it broke the web interface that controls the router. Now I have to unplug the power cable and plug it back in before I can login to the router. I wish that D-Link would have spent the extra ten cents for a power switch. The firmware problem prevents me from viewing the logs among other things. With the original version of the firmware, I was able to see the speed of my Internet connection when the router first boots up and some cryptic entries about external connection attempts, etc. There is no explanation of what these log entries mean.
I suggest downloading the manual from D-Link before deciding to purchase this router.
"Serious issues with WPA, no response from D-Link tech support!", First, let me tell you about myself. I have always been a fan of D-Link and this router was purchased to replace the DI-634M (less than a year old) simply because I needed 802.11n compatibility and it appeared as if the QoS was better for my VoIP Asterisk server which really puts quite a bit of traffic through. I downloaded the PDF manual and reviewed the configuration screens. It looked as though this upgrade would be a worthwhile investment.
Now however, I am beginning to have some buyer's remorse as this product has some serious issues with WPA/WPA2 compatibility. Granted, on other routers you could simply enable WEP until a firmware fix was released, but this device has three options: WPA and WPA2 (auto), WPA2 only, or None. The problem is that the "WPA/WPA2 (auto)" mode doesn't allow my Powerbook G4 (OS X 10.4) to authenticate, nor does the "WPA2 Only" mode. In addition, my AirPort for my iTunes link won't authenticate either!! Because I conduct business and personal traffic on my laptop, I can't risk the "None" option and open my network activity to interception while also opening my network up for anyone in the neighborhood to steal!! I have the latest version... Hardware Version: A1 Firmware Version: 1.06, 2006/06/29
I have sent a technical support e-mail to D-Link over a week ago and I have still not received a response (not even an automated response). You would think more testing would have discovered this serious flaw (seeing as how there is no *other* encryption to check, I wonder did they test anything at all?) If you are considering this product, I would strongly caution you to wait a while. Either that, or immediately contact D-Link first and ask when this WPA incompatibility will be resolved. What is the point of a wireless router when the wireless half doesn't work? I'm going back to my D-Link DI-634M. It has no WPA issues and great range already, I've returned the DIR-635 back to Amazon!
"Great router, happy with my purchase.", The D-Link DIR-635 router is the best router that I've seen from D-Link so far. It has an amazingly new and easier to navigate interface, which is much better from their older control panels (the blue and white one). I upgraded from a Linksys WRT54GXv2, which gave me wireless problems from the beginning. All my wireless problems were gone when I switched to this router.
Things that I like about this router (pro): - New graphical interface that's easier to use. - Ability to notify you of any firmware updates. - Enhanced logs & statistics. - Better wireless connectivity with my Dell laptop. - Support of only WPA/WPA2 with AES encryption.
Things I wish this router had (con): - Gigabit Lan/Ethernet, it's limited to 10/100 speeds. - Ability to download firmware updates directly from the router.
I'm giving this router 4 Stars (would give it 4.5 if there was an option) since it does not have Gigabit ethernet for my desktops and file server. New generation routers such as this one, IMHO, should come with it as a standard. It would add even more value to this router and eliminate the need of purchasing a 10/100/1000 switch.
I have not yet purchased an 802.11n network adapter for my laptop, which I'm thinking would give me an even better experience (longer distance with stronger connectivity). Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and the high cost associated with this router was worth it.
