"Lose track of time" I am reallt enjoying this game. It is the first game I have sat down and played for hours and not realized just how fast time flys. If you enjoy sims this a definately a game for you.
"Game is great. Interface with Mac can be a problem." I love having a Mac computer. However you better program game to automatically save every 10-20 minutes. I have lost 5 hours of gameplay with this premature mistake. I downloaded bug fixes on a couple websites and this seems to mildly solve the problem. Sometimes you can play the game for like 5 hours problem free. Game is very cool though!
"Terrible, until Aspyr starts to support this game..." Im going to start by saying that the Mac port compared to the windows version is ok at best. What I am truly frustrated by is the lack of support Aspyr is placing in its software. I bought this game with the intention of playing multiplayer with my friends, all of which own PC's and were able to buy the gold edition for half what I payed. Regardless, I put up the absorbent amount of money for this three year old game and attempted to play multiplayer with my friends. To my dismay I discovered that Mac users were not allowed to play multiplayer with PC users because Aspyr has not released a patch compatible with the windows patch 2.13. To make matters worse I also discovered that gamespy is no longer supporting the internet play of the Mac version. So even when the patch is finally released I will only be able to play direct IP connect. After learning this crucial information I called Aspyr support to find out if they plan on releasing a patch soon so I could make my $80 investment worth while. But to no avail, the tech support told me that the incompetent Aspyr "is working on it" but have no definite date for release. The final nail of the metaphoric coffin was the fact that Mac users could also not get the latest Expansion beyond the sword. What makes it even more offensive is the fact that Aspyr has no plans of releasing this half year old expansion pack in the future. Please heed my advise and do not buy this game until Aspyr gets their act together!!!
"Fun Game" I'm a big fan of civilization 3, and this game is excellent as well. The new introduction of religion and the overhaul of leaders adds an interesting new dimension. I thoroughly enjoyed!
"Fantastic Game. Can't stop playing" The game play is great as usual. I've played Civ II and Civ III and this version is even better. Can't wait for Civilization Revolution to hit the stands. A must buy for ALL Civ fans.

What our customer's say!
"Create your civilization then take over all others - too fun", Ok, I got to say that I was afraid of installing this game on my intel macbook I got back in May. I got the mid range model because I wanted something portable for class. Anyway, when I heard that Civilization IV wouldn't work on it because of the integrated graphics card, I was heart broken. I've loved this game for years since I first played Civilization II on my old PC. It made me hold back on my purchase for a while.
I gave in and I now LOVE my mac, way better than any PC I've had. Even though I wasn't supposed to, I got Civ IV and installed it at my own peril. I was shocked! The game worked flawlessly. It worked better on my mac than on my old gaming laptop. I really hope Apple improves the graphics chips on future macs, but the game worked perfectly.
So if you've got a recent macbook that isn't "compatible," give it a try. If you're a fan of the series you'll be relieved and enjoy hours of fun.
"Could not install it.", As many of the other reviews have stated your system must meet the minimum requirements. My system did not meet minimum requirements and I could not get it to install. Do not waste your time if your system dose not meet those minimum system requirements.
"Conquer the world...or at least try", This is the most recent incarnation of the popular CIVILIZATION game. For those not familiar with it's predessors the object is to either conquer the world by either military force, cultural superiority, diplomataic means or winning the space race. The player can either play as an individual against the computer or against other human players or as part of a team. The player dons the persona of one of several world leaders (Washington, Bismark, Victoria, Montezuma etc) and beginning the game from several different eras ranging from ancient through modern. There are various degrees of difficulty ranging from the chieftain, (the easiest) to diety, (nearly impossible). The player has the option of customizing the game, choosing various starting conditions for land masses, sea level and climate and other factors as well as a choice of several preset scenarios taken from historical situations.
The numerous options give the player almost limitless playing options making this a game that can literally keep a player occupied for years. A game can range from a few minutes to hours depending on the options selected. The challenges can progress as the players skill level increases.
I have played this game, in a couple of different versions for years and for many more hours than I would care to admit and still have not come even close to exhausting it's full potential, or becoming bored. When it ceases to be challenging I alter a parameater or two and it is a whole different set of challenges.
There are a few problems though. Although I am playing on a new Mac laptop, with plenty of memory the game slows and hangs up fairly often, requiring a 'save' exiting the game and re-entering - a process that takes 5 to 10 minutes. Each time the game is entered the entire opening sequence is played and while it is an interesting, well animated piece after a few dozen viewings it becomes a bit annoying. Also some of the charactitures of the non Eurpean/American make this WASP a bit uncomfortable.
Overall this is one of the best computer games I have played. The flexibility allows those into shoot'em up games to wage war to their hearts' content as well as those who do not to permanently declare peace and focus on other challenges.
"The Fun Keeps going to a specific point", Its fixed many of its problems and is much better than the last generation of the game. It is a lot of fun but it lacks detail in graphics. Sorry for such a short reveiw....Short but sweet.
"Civ IV for iMac -- It Rocks!", I had Civ IV for PC but when I made the leap and bought an iMac, I had to get a Mac-compatible version of the game. I had thought the game, with its graphics, diplomacy and warfare options, was pretty cool then. The Mac version blows the PC version away! Definitely more intense graphics, great sound, and all the action I remembered. Worth the price to have this for the Mac.

"civ 4 on macbook", I was hesitant to purchase the product due to the system requirements. My Macbook met all of the system requirements except for the dedicated graphics card. After successfully running the demo, I purchased the game. It is completely playable on my Macbook. Although it slows down towards the end of the game due to the size of the civilizations, the speed remains sufficient throughout the game to keep the gameplay enjoyable.
"civillization IV", HAD THIS GAME ON A PC, THEN I WENT TO MAC.THEY SAY THAT IT NEEDS SYSTEM 10.4 OR LATER TO WORK,THEY SHOULD ALSO SAY WHICH THEY DON'T THAT YOU NEED A G5 OR INTEL TO MAKE IT WORK,I HAVE 10.4 WITH A G4. THE BOX SAYS IT BUT THERE DESCRIPTION DOES NOT AND IT SHOULD I HAD TO RETURN IT FOR I HAD NO USE FOR IT .
"Can't get through a game because it Crashes", Until they release a patch for the Mac OSX - I would strongly recommend NOT buying this game, as the frequent crashes will leave you very frustrated. The game itself is great, but I haven't been able to finish a game because it keeps crashing. Good luck!
"extreme entertainment", this product is hard to put down once u start. the different scenarios add a fun challenge to the game. i defiantly recommend this to anyone who enjoys strategy and turn base style games.
"Great game poor port", This is a fantastic game, but the third party port of this game leaves something to be desired. Only recently has the latest game revision become supported, but the latest expansion is not. Worse, the game suffers from crashing (mean-time to crash seems to be around 1-2 hours), poor info graphs (compared to the PC version), and a buggy world-view. Bottom line: It's playable on Mac... it's just not equal to the PC version at all. Also, it seems to crash mainly when playing in multi-player.
