"Beware!"
I was unable to install the software on two brand new machines running
VISTA. Is NOT Vista compatible.

"Works great"
I had a couple of older Dazzle capture devises and they were not working well. I was a little hesitant in purchasing the Dazzle 170, but am very glad I did. It works flawlessly and is very easy to use. The only thing I notice is you loose some quality in the video using RGA plugs, but that is to be expected. I just wish my VCR put out S-Video as I am sure that would cure the problem. I have converted about 20 of my VCR tapes to DVD already and find it very easy using the Instant DVD recorder program that works with the Dazzle. Though I did find that once or twice the program seems to hang and will not finalize the movie on the hard drive. Also I could not get it to burn directly to my DVD burner, but I expect that is the fault of my burner not being able to run at the right rate of speed while the movie is being captured. But it is very easy to just take the files made on the hard drive and burn them to a DVD once it is done making the files. It could be a little bit better, but all in all it is very easy to use. Its real cool to if you want to take the time to capture and then later edit and remake a movie of your choice using the Studio Program which I am using version 11.1.1 I would say its worth the price.

"Does not work with Vista"
Believe the other reviews. This product absolutely and positively does not work with Windows Vista. Even with all of the latest patches from Pinnacle it crashes to a bluescreen every time.

"Garbage!"
This product is junk. Doesn't work with Windows Vista - despite claims that it does, online upgrades had problems with files, and Pinnacle refuses to provide on-line or telephone support for any model related to their 10.xx products. Once it looked like the software might work, the Dazzle crashed my system several times when I attempted to connect it to my computer. Beware of this product, you are much better served to buy a DV cord and connect to your computer directly.

"Definately Avoid"
I am surprised by any of the positive reviews of this item. Especially about the software. This item was a disaster. I am running a dual core AMD processor with 2meg of ram and all the latest XP. Wouldn't work in my Vista system and didn't try to fix it.

The dazzler device connected easily. While recording a mix of videos from VHS and Hi8 tapes the system did not identify any chapters even when there was blank tape between the videos. I created my own chapters and this caused the saved project not to reload. Nothing in the software tells you not to do this although you can. Twice the recordings claimed they were created from an older version of Pinnacle and also would not load. No new pinnacle software was avaialable unless you wanted to pay more it.

The quality of the output to DVD is also not good quality. I tried many different settings and all were very grainy with some groups of lost pixels.

Pinnacle web site is no help. All they want to do is promote purchaing upgrades.

Dazzle may have a good product if they had software to go with it. You cannot use any other software with the recording from the dazzle.

Don't waste your time or money on this item. A lousy Christmas present.

What our customer's say!

"Dazzle", The software isn't worth anything and Pinnacle won't respond to any form of contact. Worthless

"Dazzle video creator", This does exactly what I wanted to do but I did already have Pinnacle and have worked with it too.
I haven't converted all my vhs tapes yet, but I will. It is time consuming.

"capture card", it does what it says it will. i captured live tv & dvr programs on my pc.
it doesn't work that well with vista, but its great with xp.

"Ignore the sticker, It's NOT vista compatible", Even after reading everyone's reviews about how it doesn't work with vista.....I still went for it. Working in IT, I have had some experience in shoving software down Vista's throat and making it work.

Well in this case, no matter how well you follow the instructions provided by Pinnacle to make it work. And no matter what else you do or don't do, it will not work with vista. Period. Their "Vista Update" drivers available for download are worthless. I attempted to install it on Vista Ultimate and I kept getting nothing but blue screens of death when I clicked to Capture the video (not that it even detected the device).

Not only that, but I attempted to install it on my XP system, it took 4 HOURS and afterwards my computer took 5 minutes to boot up. I am not kidding. 5 minutes to boot up after one install? What kind of crap did they put in their software?! After all that, my XP system could not detect the device. After uninstalling and reinstalling everything, it finally connected and I recorded a few "good quality" clips from some live tv that was playing.

After I uninstalled the software from my Vista system, it kept asking me to install over and over. I had to manually delete every trace of the program from the OS system folders, all my personal folders where it shoved plugins and sample videos, and I even had to manually search and destroy every Registry entry this program made. I might as well reinstall Vista on my computer thanks to how badly this program screwed it up.

Don't risk it. Don't buy it.

"Dazzle video creator", No problem with hardware or software. Worked perfect the first time. I have given up on Roxio Easy Media Creator Suite 10/9/8 because of useless tech support.

"Dazzle Platinum - Mini DV tapes to DVD", I have had this product for a month. Set up on my computer and capturing videos from my mini DV camcorder was quite easy using a firewire connection. I am using Windows XP Pro with 2 GB Memory. Editing the movie and adding subtitles was easy but adding music and the more advanced functions were more difficult. Making the movie and burning to a DVD disc was erratic. It would work fine for 20 to 30 minutes into the operation and burning to the DVD disc would then freeze while the making movie part would continue. Once this happens, the DVD drive had difficulty opening and you have to restart your computer to open it and restart the make movie and burn process on a new disc. Eventually it worked. On playback to TV, occassionally the picture would freeze for a second to 20 seconds before it proceed. Most annoying.

"One of the Lucky Ones", I was lucky enough to have purchased the Dazzle at Circuit City and they refunded my money without question. Dazzle worked just fine on the first 5 tapes I copied and then it quit burning. I tried several different methods to record. I tried to copy to my hard drive and use another program to write it to DVD. I did not use the create chapter function. I used only the Good setting. I changed up DVD types. Something in the Instant DVD software causes the CPU to work at 100%. There's a bug somewhere.

"Decent potential, poor performance - A non-technical review", I bought this product to convert years of analog tapes onto DVDs. It took a while to install but it was fine. My version worked well and didn't crash on Windows XP SP2. I went through the tutorial and checked out some cool options for my films, but ran into the following problems:

1) Chapters, Menus, or "Bookmarks" if you want to call them, are extremely difficult to use. It auto-detects scenes for you at seemingly random intervals, and it is very difficult to change. I had to use the help often my first time, which was hard to follow. The help made everything seem simple, but when I went to various toolbars to find these options, they either didn't work or were nonexistent. Creating menus is extremely difficult to do.

2) The capture quality is awful. First, I tried to load onto my hard drive and then onto a DVD. After about an hour and a half of writing frames and burning the disc, everything stopped. Unfortunately it does not give you the status of the actual burn, so I was unsure if it was still working or not. After waiting another 20 minutes and not seeing my CD light go on, I quit and decided to burn directly to the DVD. When I did so, it was easy to use on my computer. However, when playing on my standard DVD player, you could notice the poor quality even on the "best" setting they give you, because all the lines in the video were rough and the image would shake every second or two.

I do not recommend this product because of the poor performance. It seemed like something easy and cool to use, but the end result was terrible. Unfortunately I can't get my money back now. Please don't make the same mistake.

"Does this replace a DVR drive on my PC?", Do I need to have a DVD burner (DVR) on my PC or does this burn DVD's? I'm totally confused. What do I need to make this work?

thanks!

"Don't Waste Your Money on this Item", Everything loaded fine. Once I opened the program, it told me that updates were available so I downloaded version 10.7 and the patch (for Internet Explorer 7 users). First installed the patch, then installed update as per instructions. My primary interest was to convert VHS home movies to files and DVD's. It captured the videos OK and I was able to edit the various scenes, but the program hung up every time I tried to make a movie (either to file to DVD). Also the Direct to DVD function hung up too. I spent a week trying to get this thing to work, but in the end it was all in vain. I did check my system and had the required hardware. Unless you're a gambler, don't waste your money on this product. Go with something else that works.
