"Caution"
This version is an old version. You will have to download the latest version. Have dial-up and took 2 hours to download and still would not install. Microsoft could not help me. Installed Vista and tried to install again. Said I needed Service Pack 2 which Vista deletes on installation. Finally got it installed by trickery on the web. This is now 30 days later and now have virus protection. Go to the website to purchase this item.

"Pleased, but only using the trial version for 90 days...but...."
I enjoy Live oncare. Yes, it seems easy, convenient and big deal..one has to download Windows Defender. Oh gee, that takes, wow, at least two minutes. I cannot believe the amount of people complaining because, gosh darn, the defender anti virus program must be downloaded.

As a non techie I do have one con about this program. It's probably my ignorance about my computer. Anyhway, the live onecare Icon..(the little oval/egg shaped icon) went from Green (meaning one's my computer is in good shape) to orange(the PC system is now only fair) all because...WELL..
after a thorugh defrag was done by onecare and a virus check and all else, the final message was that "I HAVE IMPORTANT AND NEW FILES THAT ARE NOT BACKED UP!...quite a few files as a matter of fact. The problem is every time I try to back up the files,I am thrwarted by Live onecare! Either I am not typing in the location as to where the files should b backed up, there is another problem. I am totally lost as to how to proceed. Even when I go to the online centger help area...and read solutions...nothing works for me.
So, what to do? I am still going to rate the live one care as *** 3 stars. Once someone writes back who can help/assist with the "new files that are not backed up" problem, getting my green light status, go ahead signal back from live onecare is my main goal here. I was using Trend Micro Pc_cillian 2006 and I LOVED IT...DEATH...TRULY..........THEN...DAMN...LO AND BEHOLD....Trend Micro made 2007 and it sucked to high heaven.

"One Care is really one care"
It is very easy to use and get set up. It also does it all and leaves me to just surf or cruise the net with no worries. Less intrusive than Norton and fewer bugs than McAfee , I've tried both and One Care works better and lets me get on to the business of computing.

"Not for me"
I have dial-up internet service. This product is constantly wanting me to connect to the Microsoft web site for "updates". It started the day after I finished installing the product...which took about 7 hours total over 3 days.
I stopped updating after the 2nd day because it was taking so long. Now, about 2 weeks later, it says I need to download 85megs of "updates".
It was nice enough to estimate that would be just over 9 hours at my connection speed. My current ISP is pretty good, but will not let me stay on for 9 continuous hours.

"Very easy to use...no constant popups"
I have no technical training in computers, so must speak from purely a consumer's point of view. I do not work for Microsoft, either.

Windows Live Onecare has been on my 3 computers for 6 months and have not had any difficulty with it until today, when I accidently exited out of an update. The program crashed....but I had it back up and running in minutes by simply reinstalling. (A TIP: note your Onecare member email address and password- it will be all you need to restart your subscription.

Having been pestered to death by Norton's constant popups before switching to Onecare, I have pleased with how smoothly Onecare runs and how it carries on without my repeatedly have to click boxes. This is extremely important when you have 2 children who do not bother to read the popups and simply click on anything to get rid of them.

As for the price, it seems pretty competitive particularly when it can be used on 3 computers.

My only complaint is that it does not have a spam blocker like Norton did. Otherwise, I think Onecare is superior to Norton in everything else.

What our customer's say!

"Works the best of any antivirus so far", It was easy to install and use- one thing I really like is the backup utility. Haven't had any issues with it like I have with Norton or McAfee.
Also, if you need help with it, you can actually call and get help- the others you can only email and wait.

"Awesome experience", I have installed this product on two computers and I love the experience. Very hassel free. Does PC tune up and reports any problems immediately

"Windows Live OneCare thoughts", I have three computers at home and I switched to Windows Live OneCare on all three about 2 months ago. I thought it was very easy to install and setup. I have had NO problems whatsoever since. I like that it runs a "tune-up" every so often and gives me a report on the results. My oldest computer (almost 5 years old) hasn't run this well since it was new. I am no Microsoft fan but I can give credit where credit is due. I like this product very much so far.

"I wish I wouldn't had bought this", It took half a day to install, then the other half the day was spent installing missing updates. After I got through all that, it wants you to go online and activate your subscription to Live OneCare. I've had problems doing this and still haven't gotton it done. And the help button that's on the Live OneCare....doesn't help with anything.

"Excellent!", I bought an old version and got a year's subscription (and the new version downloaded) at the cheapest possible price. A great deal! Thank you!

"A good all around, easy to use security suite ", I was never a big fan of most Microsoft software. However, this program caught my attention because I got it on sale pretty cheap. It's not perfect, but it's easy to use and it's great if you have 3 PCs you need to put this on.

PROS

Its best feature is the way it integrates with Windows XP. It automatically downloads updates and it notifies you when you need to download Windows updates. Its easy to set up networked printers, you can customize any part of the suite to fit your needs.

The firewall is excellent. It prompts you whenever a program is accessing the internet and you only have to give a program permission once. But you can always go back and change the settings. It comes with options to easily recognize a networked PC, an Xbox 360, a printer on a network, etc.. Set up for these things is painless.

You can program it to defrag your hard drive, scan for spyware, scan for viruses, check for updates, and make backups at anytime. Or you can turn any of these options off if you wish (I turn backups off).

Yeah you have to download Windows Defender, but that is a good anti-spyware utility. And I would recommend that download to anyone.

CONS

You need IE 7, if you don't have IE 7 or if you just don't like it you'll get a yellow bar all the time. It also doesn't like it when you use better browsers like Firefox or Opera. Any support you need you are forced to use IE.

You cannot use any other security suite or firewall. So if only have Norton Anti Virus and are happy with that, and just want to use One Care for firewall, defrag, and other uses, well too bad. You either have to use ALL of One Care or none of it.

Over priced. I know its for 3 PCs but I got this for $20 and I wouldn't pay anything more than that. It's ashame how overpriced software is.

SUMMARY

If you need a good security suite, Windows Live One care is not only better than Norton and Mcafee, but its cheaper too. However One Care is perfect if you don't already have an internet security suite. Right now, stick with the one you have, and hopefully this will drop down in price. (Yeah right, this is Micro$oft)I still think Zone Alarm is the best, but with the ease of installation and integration with Windows XP, Windows Live One Care offers an easy to use, all in one security suite.

"Give in to MS!", After years of struggling with Norton AV, I gave into MS and purchased this product. It works well and works much better with XP than non-MS products. It does everthing other products can and it is mostly seamless. I wish it had more controls; however, I am gladly giving them up to have an anti-virus program which actually runs without slowing my OS to a dead crawl.

"Windows Live OneCare a Winner", I find Windows Live OneCare to be a simple and efficient means to protect my computer as well as keep it up to date. I was frustrated with McAfee locking up my programs and based on a friend's recommendation ordered Windows Live OneCare. I uninstalled McAfee and easily installed OneCare. I am glad I did! Now, I simply check if I have a green indicator and move on with computing. If I have a yellow or red indicator, the program informs me of needed actions and takes them with a click. I have also used the backup and restore features several times and found them to be very helpful. I do a weekly tune up to my external hard drive. This program is a winner! I intend to keep Windows Live OneCare and renew yearly. It is well worth the money and provides peace of mind.

"Works Great - Cheap Price for What You Get", I have tried various other virus and spyware offering - always was disappointed, annoyed, or worse... OneCare works! The $42 price tag is comparatively excellent considering all you get - for one computer, and especially so with the license being for three computers.

Virus, Spyware, Backup, Tune-Up, Updates - autimatically - one interface - and it works.

"Hope you don't have to share a printer or network drives...", Unfortunately, I have the same problem as the reviewer below. I can no longer see my shared network drives/folders or printer. I've configured OneCare to allow me to share files and printers on my local network, but OneCare seems to forget.

The result - I get to cross my fingers when I try to print a document or access a folder on my network. Sometimes it works, most of the time it does not - unless I disable OneCare's firewall software (figuring out how to do so is not easy). However, once you do diable the firewall, OneCare constantly assaults you with warnings to enable your firewall software.

The bummer for me is that I installed OneCare's trial package and then purchased the software here from Amazon - I wish this problem had shown itself earlier - now I'm stuck with software that I can't use - I've since uninstalled it off of all my home PCs.

As the prior reviewer points out, MS will probably fix this at some point. For now, avoid being a beta tester for Microsoft - especially now that you can no longer purchase OneCare for $19
