"I never got the item."
Amazon decided that the item was undeliverable despite the fact that the other item in my order arrived in only 4 days. After that, I really didn't feel like re-ordering.

"DON'T DO IT!!!"
Don't do it!! You have to buy the DVD AND THE BOOK, and there is not another DVD to advance your technique past kiddie songs. Trust me, there are much better DVD series out there!

"Great basic violin intro"
I purchased this DVD along with her book, The ABCs of Violin for the Absolute Beginner, Violin Book 1

I found that having a video demonstration of care and tuning of the violin to be valuable. I did think that the video is really short and doesn't go too in depth. I had to look at videos from YouTube on violin tips and care to understand better how to do things.

I am 30 years old and had never touched a violin but knew I always wanted to learn. This DVD, along with the book, did help me to learn the notes, parts of the violin, and I can play a few short songs just after a week of learning and practicing. I am pretty impressed, as I always thought myself to be music illiterate! But it wasn't so bad...and this DVD is a good option.

"great material for beginner "
This dvd along with the ABC's of Violin books really helped me as a new teacher to refresh the memories of teaching.
The instructor gives very clear explanation step by step which is easy for beginners to follow. Good posture is reinforced through out the video.
I would totally recommend this to my students.

"A wast of time and money"
It seemed like a good price, but then you have to buy the music book separately, which upped the cost in the end. Take some advice from someone who has tried almost everything, get the AMP- Beginner violin lessons on DVD, it is the only way to really learn how to play the violin!

"Happy", I purchased this for my son and he has amazed me at how he has learned from this. It is well worth the money.

"This teacher says: Ms. Rhoda knows her stuff and conveys it clearly", A student of mine brought this DVD to my attention not long ago. I have been using the books from the ABCs series in my violin studio with excellent results, so I was hopeful it would be at the same high level. It turned out to be a very worthwhile supplement for several of my beginners. Ms. Rhoda's presentation of beginning technique is a useful home-based reinforcement to my in-lesson teaching -- very good on bow use, finger position, posture, and good practice habits. In fact, there's nothing here I can find fault with. Ms. Rhoda knows her stuff and knows how to convey it clearly.

"not worth buying", This starts out very slow, with slowly going over parts of the bow and holding the bow. Then finally you play Mary had a Little Lamb. Then the rest is just a 'concert' of her playing.

The accompanying CD is even worse IMHO - just some of the music in the book, no announcement or commentary or even enough pause between the tracks, and then again her 'concert'

"Grat Value", This was just what I was looking for grat value and price for the beginner.

"This is a good teaching DVD!!", This is a very good DVD to learn from. If you like me and had no idea what an "E" note was and have know no idea what a rosin is this DVD is good for you. This will teach you everything a stater needs to learn. So if u have know no idea what you are doing or even where to start then this is the DVD for you.

"Not for the Absolute Beginners", The instructor seems to know her stuff, but the camera angles/distance does not help at all unless you had some private lessons before hand. When the instructor begins to teach you (aka the beginner)about the strings and hand position, the camera stays far back and doesn't give a close up view of her hand positons. Also, her body angle makes it harder to see the neck of the violin. For example, you mostly see the side of the violin rather than the top of the neck where the strings are placed. If you don't figure out the hand positions, than basically the rest of the dvd is pointless because they are essential. I strongly do not recomend this, and I do not recomend the book. The books is basically 3 illustrations that doesn't explain anything. Also, it is mostly sheet music..

I recomend a book by Gerald Anderson and Robert Frost. It is called All For Strings book 1..This book gives alot more visual illustrations and actually shows where to put your fingers and hand position.

"Good for a beginner", This CD got me started, but there is one thing that the instructor should have made known to a beginner, and that is how to apply the rosin to the bow. I did not know that you had to rub sandpaper across the rosin in order to loosen up the powder that needs to be applied to the bow. I rubbed that bow for well over 30 minutes, and still could not get a sound. I finally found the info on the internet...but it did get me started.
It would be wise to purchase the book with the CD because there are songs that are played towards the end of the CD and I think you need the book in order to play along.

"Great DVD", This DVD was so helpful. I'm a first timer and by the end of the second day I was playing my new violin.

"The best way to learn!", This DVD is very helpful in learning how to hold and play the violin. It was more thorough than the instructor on the first of my only two lessons in a shop. It has three songs from book 1 and other songs from the other four books. It's very very helpful in showing you the different techniques and understanding what the terms mean in playing. I am almost done with book one and looking forward to book 2. The DVD as well as the CD are an important part of learning for the self taught. I have very little natural music ability if any and this book and DVD are the key for me learning violin.

"Take a deep breath and buy this with the book.", It costs less than taking a lesson. (If you live where lessons are less expensive, consider the cost of gas)
The book and the video are a team. My 10 year old is able to self teach from them and is doing very well.
I am very pleased with the combo. She does recommend that you have a teacher help you select a violin but goes over tuning, posture and position, how to take a bow, even. The tunes are performed, which will help "stabilize" a beginner's pitch. Sure a teacher is great but if you can't afford it or are in an isolated area like we are, this will work.
