"Good fun, mildly repetitive" A must own game for anybody with a 360 and an affinity for zombie movies. Fighting off hordes of zombies is a hoot, and the different kinds of moves that you can pick up are a lot of fun to acquire. The only question is how many zombies can you kill before you feel like doing something else?
"awesome" I got this game for getting honor roll. I put in in the second I got home--it is so cool. After completing the mini-quest you can explore anywhere in the mall, acquiring armor and weapons. I love that you can do that. One thing worth mentioning is the difficulty saving the game. Each save point is heavily guarded by zombies. I must have died 5 times trying to get safely to a save point and was forced to restart each time. My mom bought me this game thinking it was not violent. Well, it is--especially for kids under 10. Still, this game is awesome.
"More fun than a barrel of zombies" I've played this game through and find myself playing it again and again. There are some drawbacks to the game design, but the graphics, plot, action, and for the most part the controls are so great that I think this fully deserves a five-star rating.
Pros: Graphics, plot, re-playability, weapons, bloody fun Cons: Otis the Janitor (read below), lack of voice acting, controls, save feature
Here's a little more in-depth discussion of the pros/cons of the game:
Graphics - a little cartoony but for the content - literally hacking zombies and other enemies to bloody pieces - it's totally appropriate. It's remeniscient of another Capcom title, Resident Evil, but far less gloomy. Character details are quite good. The only drawback is that there are only a few different zombie designs, I'd say less than 20. The problem this presents is when you have 50 enemies on screen (you frequently do) it's disappointing to see the same zombie five times.
Plot/replayability - zombies in a mall. 'nuff said. There are several different endings and with the number of survivors and psychopaths, you can choose where you go and what you do over the course of the game. If I can just add my two cents on the whole "Day of the Dead" thing - there aren't that many places where a person can hole up during zombie armagheddon. A house, a mall, a store, or a military base. Hopefully this won't prevent a sequel, which, for this genre, could be very, very solid.
Action (aka bloody fun) - plenty of it. This game is pretty much hack 'n slash without much finesse, however, the sub-plots about saving survivors in particular really adds another layer of challenge to this game. If you pick up a chainsaw and try to hack your way to a survivor, chances are you'll end up killing the survivor instead so there are definitely some tense moments in leading survivors through a pack of zombies.
Controls - This is where the game really gets frustrating at times. The aiming mechanism is frustrating (you pull the right trigger and then slowly, oh so slowly, move an aiming reticle to your target). You don't have very tight movement - the movement is extemely similar to Resident Evil. You may also find yourself consuming a snack (which are basically precious health packs) without meaning to, because you basically scroll through your inventory to get to whatever you're carrying - weapon or food - and use the same control to "use" it. This can be very frustrating. Still, once you get the hang of it - and once you start to level up and get more health, speed, and inventory slots, the overly simplistic controls aren't as much of a hassle.
Save feature (and timing) - The inability to save a game except in one or two locations in the mall is frustrating. The time limit is sort of frustrating if you want to "do everything" (you have 72 hours to survive in the mall, and each mission is broken down into a smaller part of that 72 hours - fail a mission and you fail the game). On the other hand it adds a true sense of urgency and pacing to the game which I think keeps it very interesting and intense.
Otis the Janitor/voice acting - Otis is a character who is more or less necessary to your completion of the game. He will periodically call you over a walkie-talkie to give you information on survivors and missions. Without the info, you can't complete the objective. However, you have to stay on the walkie talkie while he is "speaking" - which he doesn't really do, it's just subtitles, as it is with most characters except in cut scenes. If I remember Resident Evil is the same way - hopefully Capcom, if they make another sequel, will put alittle more effort into voice production, which would really increase the fun factor/reduce the frustrating factor, without affecting the difficulty of the game at all.
Overall - this game is immensely fun. I hope to see a sequel with the controls and save features improved. It would also be nice to have somewhat more competent survivors - they often let themselves get taken down by a hoarde of zombies instead of just running like hell. And of course a different location - either in the town itself (a parallel story) or in another town, the mall thing would probably be repetitive.
Bottom line: for the $20 or so this game now goes for, it's quite a bargain.
"Not original" Personally I preferred to collect original ones without any platinum hits and et cetera. Its been hard for me to find any brand new originals until I saw this item with original covering which enthrilled my thoughts into grabbing the opportunity to capture one for my own. Since I did researched through-out on amazon.com and there re games that specific labeled saying its platinum hits including pictures as well. Except for this game... so if your one of people who prefer collect originals then this wont be what you expected. Sorry, it did disappointed me greatly. I wished it used platinum hits covering which would stopped me from buying. However the review on gaming itself, ingore it because of course we all know its one of those great games.
"Fun with a few problems" Although the front cover says otherwise, I can't help but compare Dead Rising with the movie Dawn of the Dead. The fact is you can do anything you want in a mall. Personally when I think of a mall, I think of Dawn of the Dead, and Dead Rising sort of allows me to play out my fantasy.
Dead Rising is one of the most unique Zombie games out there. Capcom is truly the master of Zombies games much like how George Romero is the master of Zombies on the big screen.
To explain Dead Rising, think Grand Theft Auto meets Resident Evil. The game's world is limited to a mall, but don't worry, there's plenty to do at the mall. If you want a comparison, think of a huge mall with roller coasters, grocery stores, toy stores, movie theaters, and all other wonderful things you'll find at the mall.
In Dead Rising you play a journalist named Frank whose love for the latest story lands him in a town overrun by zombies. The most unique thing about Dead Rising is that you can choose what to do. You are given basically three days of play, and within those three days you can uncover the story of the zombie plague, help survivors to safety, create chaos by killing zombies left and right, stop psychos, or you can do a combination of all.
Dead Rising unique system doesn't end with the fact that you can choose how you want to spend your 72 hours, but also the fact that you can choose how you want to defend yourself from the zombie plague. Do you want to bust TV's over zombies head? You can do that. Do you want to pick up an umbrella and use it as a ram to plow zombies? You can do that. Do you want to pick up chainsaws and cut zombies in half? You can do that. Pretty much anything can be used as a weapon in this game... right down to pies and foam bats and can sodas.
Overall a fun game to play for any zombie fan. There are few minor problems with the game which includes the fact that on some TVs it will be hard to read the text on the screen. I highly recommend playing the game on HDTV otherwise you'll be having a hard time reading the text on standard TV although I heard for some people it isn't a factor. Ironically on the front cover of the game, the main character has a standard TV to break over the zombies head... perhaps it is a precursor to the fact that you'll be doing that to your TV when you are overrun by anger.

What our customer's say!
"Over rated gore fest", I got this game on sale and all i can say is it's fun in small chunks to let some frustration out,but it has some bad flaws. The text size is small for those that don't have a hd wide screen, the save system is annoying. You have to find a break room or go back to the safe spot to save.If you find this game for under 10 dollars like i did buy it.But be aware of the repetitive zombie kill fest
"Excellent game", This is a great game that's a lot of fun. There are a few things to consider: 1) there are many side plots that distract you from your real mission, 2) there are a lot of things to do in this game. The graphics and sound are great, giving the feeling that you're in a mall. Without all the distracting side missions, it's very fun.
"Smashing Zombie's All The Time Is Not Fun", This Is A Boring And Repitive Game. All Your Doing Is Walking Around A Mall And Killing Or Smashing Zombie's. I'm Glad I Got Rid Of This Game, This Game Was A Total Waste Of My Money. The Weapon's Are Useless In This Game, And Most Of Them Are Limited. Using The Gun Is Not Even Useful, Espeacially Lack Of Ammo.
This Was By Far The Worst Game I've Ever Played. You Have To Be Bored In Order To Like This Game.
"Great fun but annoying", Ok, first off good game. Great killing zombies. The over used zombie-mall idea is great. Finally, it is used in a game. The decapitations and shooting heads never gets old. BUT the saving system does get old! You will get so far and die and have t go all the way back. Very fustratng. i usually beat games quickly but this one took a while. Hopefuly dead rising 2 will be an improvment
"First-person shopping", Th(loading)is game sounded like fun but turns out to be a h(loading)orrible bore. It takes longer th(loading)an an Ayn Rand novel to warm up. You spend about 45 minutes suffering th(loading)rough(loading) teenage dialog before you get to swing a wrench(loading) at a zombie. Th(loading)e save system is about 10 years beh(loading)ind th(loading)e state of th(loading)e art. Th(loading)e figh(loading)t system is nonexistant. If you like replaying 20 minutes of mash(loading)ing th(loading)e X button in between a loading screen every 6 feet th(loading)is migh(loading)t be for you...
You might need this...

"Coming 4 U Barb", Overall, I liked the game a lot and played it a 2nd time just to max out all level ups and go on a killing rampage, but the part that always griped me was that the SMALL screen scripts to read whenever you get a hint or message, and too many overlaps in missions to save people within a too limited amount of time. The hopping around on the heads of the zombies to finally clear the last challenge probably sounded good on paper, but in practice it was frustrating. Otherwise, I liked it, but not a great deal of re-play value once you beat it unless you want to do the rampage thing.
"Dead On Arrival", Once again a game I've been looking foward to play and once again am left disappointed and ask 'Why?'.I'm not going to go in to a great deal of detail about the whole game.I will say the good parts first-fun killing Zombies in different ways, voice acting nicely done, great graphics and a large area to explore.
Now the bad-buttons are mapped incorrectly making it confusing and cumbersome to use.Random people calling you in a middle of a mission or when a bunch of Zombies are about to surround you and tear you apart. You run like one mile an hour at all times.Time and Map not correctly displayed.
Now the ugly and these REALLY cripple the game to the point that you'll lose excitement and encouragement very quickly. The first major one is Save points or lack there of.You can only save at the Security Office and if you die you actually start the game over (and although all your stats and abilities are there)all your missions you've completed, all the items you've collected are gone.AND your time that you were on is present when you start over so let's say when you died you had 62 Hours 13 Minutes that's what you'll start off with when you begin the game again. And that's another thing that mad me mad-the time limit.I am not a fan of games that puts time limits in games especially ones of this type.I feel it artificially adds difficulty and rushes you way too much. You never get that GTA-type feel where you feel free to do just whatever or choose to do a job.Dead Rising's approach is to always have one mission activated with a time limit so you have to drop what you are currently doing and run half way across the map.Weapons like guns you get are practicily useless. You can't auto target which is essential in this game or should have been. You have to select it,hold down R2 and you stay there like a statue most of the time completely vulnerable and with a little tiny reticle try shoot someone with a high powered machine gun while you're left with a weak pistol. And most of the stores are bare of weapons and practical usages. And really everywhere you don't find much weapons. And the weapons themselves disinigrate after 3-5 usage.
What can I say-oh I KNOW-RENT THE GAME DO NOT BUY IT!If you do Buy it the first half hour will be left with boring opening with the arrival of the Shopping Mall where you Escort people, then BS around, save your game and then try to kill a man who has an P-90,die and start the game over not knowing that you have to start the game over from the very beginning. That's it in a nutshell. And if anyone else has the patience to over look these damaging flaws and enjoy this game more than I have then you have the patience of a Buddhist Monk.I hope they make a sequal to fix all these flaws and learn from their mistakes.Because this game is certainly what I call a mistake of monumental perportions.
"Zombie bashing at its best!!!", Dead Rising is a fun game that plays kind of like a beat-em-up.You are Frank,a photojournalist who is trapped in a shopping mall and later on the government wants to deny what happens their and drops in swat guys to kill the zombies and blocks off every thing around the town. You can use anything to kill zombies.Their is main missions and optional missions throughout the game to gain special abilities and experience points. The game is a sandbox game with everything at your disposal including 2x4s,chainsaws,guns,skateboards,guitars,water-guns,swords,baseball bats, and many others weapons. The game has three modes: 72 hour mode, overtime mode, and infinite mode. The 72 hour mode is the mode where has to complete the main missions and side missions to escape the mall. The overtime mode is unlocked after you beat the 72 hour mode, this mode is harder and has the swat guys(come out at end in 72 hour mode)and zombies trying to kill you.Infinite mode is where Frank survives long as you don't starve and don't get kill by zombies.Dead Rising is a fun amazing zombie game and is almost like the movie Dawn of the Dead.
Overall, this is well done and has nice elements that make this game more fun by adding two extra modes after beating the game. The game has so many weapons, just about everything is a weapon even a plant or a chair.Dead Rising has a lot of replay value because you can just run around and throw things at or shoot zombies after you beat the game.
Pros: tons of weapons, fun to play, lots of modes, replay value, Frank can wear different clothing/accessories
Cons: A.I needs work, end was disappointing
"Waited too long to play this", Each time I thought about buying this, I was turned off by all the negatives that this game has received, mainly, the save system. Well, I finally overlooked it and decided to give it a try. Honestly, I don't care if I ever win this game, it's so much fun just running around and killing zombies from the multitude of weapons available at the mall. I'm currently just doing the side missions like trying to save people than concentrate on the main story. I'll probably try to beat the game when my player is powered up some more; he is rather weak to begin the game with. The graphics surpassed what I thought from a 2006 game--its better than a lot of games currently. Its definitely a keeper with lots of replay value. What's not to like, it feels like being at a mall where you can grab a yogurt and bludgeon zombies to death with a nearby trashbin. Just keep in mind the save system stinks and you'll have a good time.
"Am instant classic", Like the george romero films, this game grounds it's greatness in the forbbiden pleasure of dismember anything that moves.
Luckly for us, they already dead.
The control gets some complains for some people. I say "Hey, it's a game and a little stiffness keeps it ficticious enough to prevent some moralistics to put the satan's propaganda label on it... jajajajajaja"
Cool game anyway
