"POS"
This has been the worst printer we have owned. Do not by this if you ever have intentions of printing envelopes. You can hand write them before you can get one to actually feed and print correctly. Junk!

"I have the all too common Reset Power error."
Search Google for "hp 6310 reset power" and you'll get an idea of how common it is for these printers to develop this problem. As with many others, mine started just after the warranty expired. I can't scan. I can't fax.

"Perfect in every way so far."
I have used this printer daily after receiving it almost a month ago, and it has worked flawlessly. The printer, copier, fax, and scanner all integrate together perfectly with my computer's (Windows XP) software, and it has made my life much easier. Set up was very easy with no glitches or problems. In my opinion, you can't beat this all-in-one for small home based business or personal use, especially for the price.

"Versatle and feature full"
I downloaded the drivers from the HP website and installed them on my Windows XP Pro computer with no problems. I didn't use the install CD that comes with the printer because HP is notorious for including unnecessary junk on the CD. The scanner is simple to use and my scanned images were sharp and had good color. The printer calibrates itself with using one piece of paper. Every time the machine is turned on it appears to clean the heads which might use ink over time. I leave mine on. The camera card reading tools are pretty cool, you put in your camera card and ask it to print out a contact sheet. Then you pick the photos you want printed by filling in a box on the print and running the print through the scanner. My first photo print had a tiny bit of banding, but now there is none. Color prints are okay with the included color cartridge but I bought a "photo" color cartridge and the photo print quality is now very good, arguably excellent. Ink isn't cheap but I'm willing to pay about $0.40 per 4x5 print including paper, just for the convenience. I had no paper jams. I'm using HP Premium Plus Photo paper. Cheaper paper will not make good photos, also I used some cheap paper for printing documents and it looked a little blurry. I suggest using inkjet paper for best document quality.

"just what was needed at the right price"
This printer is what I was looking for and was shipped within days of ordering.

What our customer's say!

"Great printer for the price", This is a great little printer for the price. I have a laptop hooked up as well as a desktop and the printer is great for both. I am very pleased with my purchase

"This Time, It's Slick Success. Maybe Next Time, It'll be Protocol Prime.", I can't think of how I could be more pleased with my HP Deskjet J4580. When I bought mine (10/7/08), Amazon was offering it at an awesome special price (with one of those "click to see price" links) with Super Saver Shipping... Even on the SSS the printer was delivered only 3 days after I ordered it (10/10/08)!

When I clicked to see the price markdown, I was so flabbergasted my first thought was that maybe the low price was because this printer is not "wired" for wireless, and and/or because it didn't come with the USB cable included (a packing lack which quite a few buyers noted not being pleased with). I decided I didn't need a wireless printer anyway, thinking I might have trouble with installation since I know nothing about wireless protocol (I barely know the word protocol).

(I did buy a wireless mouse and love it! Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 - Slate)

It appears my instincts were right, at least for me, because I just read some of the reviews for another HP printer, a model number up from mine (J6480 instead of J4580), and it sounds like quite a few people have had trouble getting the drivers to work with wireless protocol. And most of these reviewers were tech savvy ethers beyond me, a person who always thought protocol arrived into reality with my beloved nephew Lonnie, an ex marine who described what protocol means in that branch of the military. They know how to apply that word to its Nth degree. As a clumsy dyslectic, I admire anyone who can shine in any branch of the military.

With my J4580, I easily, quickly, and successfully followed the instructions which came in the box, all the while thanking the other reviewers of that model who reminded purchasers to buy a separate USB cable. I bought the Belkin Pro Series USB 2.0 Device Cable (USB A/USB B, 10 Feet) which I'm absolutely pleased with, and was again helped by the reviews posted on Amazon's buying page.

Everything on the printer works with a slick ease which has me feeling like a sort of semi-pro myself. This is the first time I've had a simple FAX machine which works either separately from or with my PC. With my previous HP (which I also loved and it still works but I wanted to upgrade for speed, capacity, and general purposes), I had tried repeatedly, unsuccessfully (phone bills to prove it), to use FAX programs within my PC, so this new setup is a joy!

Of course wouldn't you know it that I would wait to get this FAX setup about the time I might consider changing to cell phones only, without a land line, which would make this FAX non functional...

OH! So that's why the wireless FAX capacity is becoming the thing now!

Oh well, by the time I get rid of my land line, if I do, maybe the wireless FAX All-in-One machines will have fixed the driver snarls. And maybe I'll know more about wireless protocol by then... if I'm still alive.

For now, I have just what I want, and am thankful for that link on the buying page from the printer I had been looking at to this one I bought. The link said that a newer model was now available. And that newer model (due to the Amazon special price then) was $40 cheaper and several ways better than the older one!

Even at the current discounts available on this printer, which (at the time of my review post) weren't as good as the discount I got, I would purchase this printer again.

Another similar printer, non-wireless, which I would also consider, is the HP Officejet 6310 All-in-One Printer/Fax/Scanner/Copier (Q8061A#ABA)

NOTE: I've posted my review on the 6310 model's buying page, as well as on the buying page for the J4580. All things considered, at the time I posted this review I would buy the 6310, since it is now (11/13/08) offered by Amazon on a similar special to the one I got on 10/7/08 on the J4580.

I enjoy shopping on Amazon, cruising for those specials offered regularly. That research takes a bit of time, including reading reviews, but I enjoy that type of browsing, so I'm a satisfied customer every-which-way.

"Works Great!!!", I purchased this printer about a month ago. It is great. Prints well, easy to use. I like the feature that let's you test the fax to see if you have a dial tone and it's ready to send and receive faxes. My wife used it to print some photos and some invitations. Had no problems at all.

"Sure Wish The Scanner Worked", Fairly good product. Getting it to Bluetooth with my computer was a bit more complex. It had to be completed manually using the printer's "address number."

Having no luck getting the "all in one" to be an "all in one"...I have not had any luck what-so-ever, getting the machine to SCAN!

also, it NEEDS a dust cover! [should be included].

"Great for personal use", This is a great printer for someone who only needs something for personal use. If you need something for school or work, this isn't something that is meant to hold up to everyday constant printing or copying. I have a laser printer for that. I use this for faxing and occasional copying and scanning, with the printing for sometime color jobs, sometimes pictures, which works wonderfully. Inkjets suck up ink - it's a fact. You can get printers for the cost of cartridges now - so if you pick out an all-in-one, make sure that's what you need - that's what I did. I love it!

"great reasonably-priced printer", Smooth operating at a good price. Print quality is very good. It seems to use a greater amount fo ink than other printers of the same price/quality but cartidges seem somewhat less expensivethose of other brands I have used in the past. It seems ideally suited to at-home use

"JUNK", I purchased this printer 4 weeks ago and have not been able to use it. I use Vista Home Premiun but the softwere is not compatable with Vista and I get an error statement that says Fatal Error every time I try to load it. Amizon tells me to contact HP. ( Not their problem and will not accept a return.) I did this but HP does not seem to know how to fix it. Most HELP agents do not have knowledge of this product. DO NOT purchase this product if you use Vista. Do not purchase anything from Amizon if you intend to use it. No returns if opened. How do you know if it doesn't work if you don't open it...... ?

"HP Printer", Excellent discription, excellent product, took out of the box and had it up and running! Excellent service and Delivery

"You GET what you PAY for...(why can't I remember THAT?)", I got this printer for about a hundred bucks...shipped fast, installed like a dream....it also has held up pretty well as I have have beaten it repeatedly out of frustration. paper jams CONSTANTLY....and forget envelopes....it's a crappy piece of plastic...what did I expect for $100??? a real machine?....
maybe next time.

"worst printer ever", The software would not install on vista x64. Wasted 4 hours on the phone with HP trying to install it. On my other computer running xp, software installed but would crash 90% of the time after windows starts up. Uninstall doesn't even work right, I'm not sure what it uninstalled, still had all the hp services running and most of the shortcuts and program files after uninstalling.
