Others say...
"I finally gave in and bought it, glad i did!" Ok so i bought the remote a few weeks ago on sale for $50 at Best Buy. It's definitely easier to use than 3 remotes just for watching tv, plus more for dvd's ect. Unlike what others said, it only took me 20 minutes to set up all my devices, plus it wasn't laggy at all on my vista pc. I also didn't have to go back into the software to fix anythng, it worked the first time. Something that i didn't see anyone else mention, nor was in mentioned in the item description is it has a motion sensor! When i sit down on my couch while the tv is off, the remote lights up so i know where it is! Maybe i'm just crazy, but i swear it happens. So here's the deal:
Pros: Very sleek with cool blue backlight Works with all of my devices (6) no problem. Simple set-up motion sensor screen is very readable comes with 8 DURACELL (yes a real brandname) batteries help button is awsome and always helps on first question doesn't need to be pointed directly at the device (works backwards and under a blanket!)
Cons: record button and the words "prev" and "mute" don't light up previous channel button is in an odd spot (I use it alot for DVR and On Demand to go to the previous screen) number buttons are small, others are a fine size
Overall i couldn't find enough cons to remove a star. I would recommend this to anyone with 2 or more remotes. It recognized even my spectronIQ dvd player that is a no-name, i think it will recognize anything else too.
"Best Part of My Home Theater" I have had this remote for over a year, and it is by far one of the best products I have ever purchased. My wife no longer gets mad for having to use multiple remotes to control the multiple components in our home theater. The way you are able to group your components into "Activities" is fantastic. I love it so much I bought 3 for Christmas presents for family/friends.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
"Logitech Makes Very Good Remotes" Bought a new 550 to replace a Logitech I bought several years ago. Was very easy to set up and works just as I want it to.
"great product" easy to use, easy to set up, can control everything i need it to control. highly recommended
"Best Christmas gift of the Year (for me, anyhow)" Ten minutes after sitting down with this remote and I'm two clicks away from just about everything I can possibly do with my admittedly average a/v array. Even opening the package is easy, since -- unlike everything else electronic -- it's perforated, so you won't lose any fingers trying to get into it. I'm not sure how writing the make/model of all your components down before starting is as tedious and difficult as some folks are making it seem. Then again, I'm only tying together four components. Software interface is very intuitive. The buttons will take a little bit of getting used to, but doesn't that come with the territory? If the thing just copied the same buttons from every remote, wouldn't it have to be rather large?
Anyhow, I would recommend just about anyone who's tired of having three or four remotes lying around to pick this up. It seems to be all that and a bag of chips to me. Plus, I save four AA and two AAA batteries in the deal. Win-win.

What our customer's say!
"good remote", Although I don't like that have to "login" to configure the remote, the software wizard works quite nicely. You must redo the wizard if you change the model of a component, but this isn't something you'd do very often.
As for the remote, the buttons (as many have said) are too small. This causes me to give it three stars. Although the product works very well, the primary action I do with the remote is enter channel numbers and that is not easily accomplished.
"Look no further for a remote - EVER!!!", Want to watch TV but all you have is sound with no picture? Then you have picture but no sound...after several more button presses you now have no sound and no picture!? Or the parents are in town and you're leaving the house but have to spend 30 minutes teaching them how to use your complicated home theater setup? This is the remote for YOU!! I am a huge fan of this product. I've owned it for 6 months now and highly recommend it IF you have a home theater setup with several different components. If all you have is a TV and DVD player than don't spend your money.
What this remote does is this: It turns on your TV, sets the TV to the correct AV input (i.e. Video1 for DVD, Video2 for cable box, whatever your set up is) sets the A/V to the correct input (DVD/DVR, TV/SAT, etc) turns on the DVD player or cable box (again whatever you select as wanting on) all with one touch of a button. AND makes sure that any device you aren't using for a particular activity is turned off. Why have the cable box on while watching a DVD? You can customize how each activity is labeled (i.e. watch TV, watch television, watch cable) customize what buttons are displayed in the lcd based on a particular activity (in my case the surround sound and subtitle options are available when I'm watching a DVD or surround sound and movie on-demand options available when I'm watching cable). You can customize the key press delay (useful for equipment that takes a few seconds to read a key press - keeps it from losing a key command when several buttons are pushed sequentially); customize the inter device delay (useful for when a device takes a moment after receiving an IR signal to be ready for the next signal and signals are being sent to several different devices).
I could go on forever. Suffice it to say, if you want your system to do a particular function this remote can make it happen - even the specialized functions like "record" or "Chapter set" on your DVD recorder.
All you have to do is input the correct brand/model of your unit in the computer software and Logitech finds the correct codes for you. If for some reason your unit is not in the Logitech database the remote has a learning feature that lets you upload every function of your original remote into the Logitech database. You also get to name the button- no more trying to figure out that SSS means "Standard Surround Sound". May not sound like a big deal but when toggling through the LCD buttons on the remote and you have a complex Surround sound machine, the abbreviations other users come up with can be crazy!
As for flaws - not enough to knock off a star. The load time takes longer than I expected - every time you set up your remote on the computer you have to "synch" it with the computer to upload your settings. This takes awhile as the software actually stores your remote profile on a Logitech database. You don't have to enter your personal information to register the remote, just a log-in and password. The good of the online database is that if your computer crashes you don't lose your remote settings. I have a 3mb/sec connection and it is slow; very frustrating when "tweaking" the remote but once you're done does not become an issue (so not worth knocking down a star).
Some users might argue that it is too hard to figure out the software but consider this: with every new software program there is a "learning curve". I did have to spend a few hours getting to know the software, playing with settings, getting everything "perfect" but now I am pretty familiar with the software and can do about anything with the remote. My remote can control my home theater system (TV, cable box, PS3, DVD recorder, A/V surround sound system), my bedroom TV and DVD player, Mutlimedia PC and PC speakers.
I will never be without a Logitech Universal remote again!!! I highly recommend this to anyone with several components in their home theater system. Put those 8 remotes you were thumbling around with out of sight!!! Just remember - if you only have a couple devices in your setup this may not be worth the initial setup trouble. Keep that in mind while you shop.
"Works but not the most convenient", The set up was a bit tedious. Once set up it works fine except for when changing between input sources i.e. DVD, VCR, or cable. Changing input sources usually requires between 3-4 selections which isn't much trouble but not the most convenient either. I can't imagine the battery will last long because of these multi selection processes but nonetheless this replaces a four remote set up.
Sony Bravia KDL 46s4100 Philips HT 3565 Comcast DVR Sony VCR RDRVXD655
"Works ... but unimpressed with ease of use, efficiency, interface. ", I paid only half the retail price for this remote, and even taking that whopping discount into consideration, I was unimpressed.
First, the device database is not comprehensive. There are only 3 "major" brands of HDMI switches on the market, and Belkin is one of them. This device doesn't have my Belkin 3x1 hdmi switch in their database so i had to teach the remote codes, and after all that trouble, it "found" a similar Belkin device with the same codes.
The "activities" function works OK, but the preset options are limited so most functions need to be manually programmed and renamed. For example, I have a media center PC for BluRay, an HD-DVD player for HD-DVD, and a 5-disc home theater for regular DVD. So I have three optical disc devices to choose from, not to mention the numerous other formats to watch a video. The Harmony comes preset with only one "watch a video" activity. I suspect the average buyer for this remote prolly has even more options than me, including streaming media players, etc. Each activity beyond the preset 5 will need to be manually added, not automatically programmed. And manual programming, while fairly straightforward, also takes quite a bit of time (a couple hours in my case). Two hours may seem well worth it to some users, but not to me.
Because of limitations with the Activities functionality, I end up using the Devices option to control many functions. The Devices function requires scrolling thru many pages of options just to find a basic function. This scrolling is very inefficient, usually taking many more clicks than the original remotes that came with each component. It drives me up the wall to scroll thru so many pages for basic AV tasks.
I understand there is limited physical space on the Harmony, but basic controls like Favorites, Recall and Setup should have dedicated buttons and not require scrolling thru different pages on the LCD. Although many of the buttons on the Harmony can be reprogrammed, the Harmony's programmable buttons already have vital functions assigned. Only an "A" and "B" button are unassigned and lend themselves to custom programming. This remote would have greatly benefited from a few more dedicated buttons for the most popular tasks.
To top it off, the number buttons (used to enter channels) at the bottom of the remote are too small and hard to press. And the dedicated Sound and Picture buttons don't control the sound and picture of my TV, and can't be reprogrammed, so those buttons are wasted.
Bottom line: If your setup is at all like mine with multiple "video watching" options, be aware that using this one remote may save space and reduce clutter, but may not save time or aggravation.
"Best Remote", It took me a little time to get it set up, but once I finished, it is the best remote I have ever used.

"Solid remote but...", So you want a remote that will make life easier and combine all your old remotes into one super remote. On the surface this remote can do it all. It is well built has good batery life with an auto controlled backlight funtion. It is programed online by inputing your device model number and can control almost anything as long as Logitech keeps up their site. So now I can control my HDTV and suround system as well as my sattelite radio and even my computer. This remote even contols my old Denon AVR1010 downgraded to the garage.
Now the cons. Logitech gets it almost right. The main detracter of this device is the poor funtionality of the page system set up. The remote uses a four item lcd display with four buttons to cover most funtions. So in order to turn on my Samsung TV I have to hit the tv button and then hit the page over button four times to hit the power on button. That's right I press 7 buttons to turn on the tv. Clearly if Logitech can create a patch that will allow you to turn on the tv by pressing the tv button and then the standard power button (that's two button presses) then the problems of the mutinavigating will be eliminated. Until that time I can only give this product three stars. It does everything it claims but in a slow cumbersome manner.
"Everything ", This thing is the bomb. The software is easy to configure; it even found my Popcorn hour A-110. I doubt that anyone would want the more expensive versions; for $50 this is a killer deal.
"Remarkable, and at a reasonable price", After unsuccessful experiences with other lesser universal remotes, I was hesitant to give this a try. I've only had it a few days, but so far I'm very impressed. The setup was completely painless; I connected the remote to my PC via USB, inserted the CD, and the software came up with no problems. It was able to identify all the devices in my setup, including such weird ones as the Roku IP music player, and the off-brand set-top box. Profiles for different activities were easy to set up too; eg. when setting up DVD playback the software asked whether I wanted to control volume via the Stereo or DVD player.
The biggest challenge with these things is that when they send commands, they have no way of knowing whether the commands were seen by the components, and so the remote can get out of 'sync'. The unit lets you identify this situation and correct it, by walking through a series of menus. But if you keep the remote pointed in the right direction, this won't happen.
The only downside of this unit is that it seems a bit fragile - I suspect if it gets dropped a few times, or sat on, it will be gone. So I'll do my best to take care of it. Bottom line - go for it.
"Great Remote", I wanted a good universal remote and I had heard a lot of great things about the Harmony. I decided to get the 550 because I really didn't want to bother with recharging batteries or touch screens, also this is much cheaper then the other Harmony's and I didn't need the features the other Harmony remotes had that this didn't.
Setting this remote up is very easy. I didn't use the CD it came with I just downloaded the latest software from the internet. Setting up the remote is easy, however, the more fine adjustments are a little more complex. When I first set the remote up I noticed a lot of delay when using it. After doing some research online I found a place explaining how to get rid of the delay. The delays are programed into the remote on purpose to make sure all your different devices respond to everything. However, with some adjusting and testing you can get the remote to have no delay and still have all of your devices respond. This is more complicated then just a normal remote setup.
The remote has a lot of power, it works from a long distance and you don't even have to be really pointing it directly at the device. Overall I am very pleased with this remote.
P.S. You can adjust the delays by adjusting the delays in the settings for each device in the software, there is also another setting hidden in the troubleshooting options called repeats. The number of repeats also effects the delays. If you have trouble getting it to respond the way you want it to call Logitech for help. I personally have not called for help, but I know people who have. They have told me that the help process for the harmony remotes is excellent. They will work with you until any problems you are having are resolved.
"Works flawlessly", I bought this product 2 months back. It works flawlessly with my TV, Music System, cable box, Blue Ray Disc player, laptop and my Wii.Its the best value for money remote in market.
