What our customer's say!
"Call of Duty 1... with better graphics", I'm not going to deny that if you are a CoD fan and have a Mac, you need this disc. With that in mind, however, note that this game is quite similar to its predecessor. If you are considering buying it, note that at this time, Call of Duty 4 is scheduled to come out in August for Mac, and is several times more amazing than this game, so think twice.
"Not as good as the original", Call of Duty 2 is a good game, but trust me, the regular Call of Duty and the United Offensive is better.
If you've never played the original, you'll probably like this, but if you've played the original, it just won't be as good. They've improved some things, but left out others.
Improved:
better AI better weapon sounds,(especially STG44), more German death cries (Call of Duty had WAY too little) better animation (some things are quite hilarious; for example, if you shoot a helmet off some enemy soldiers, they'll reach up, look startled, touch their head, and gesture wildly in bewilderment.) no medic kits to search for; instead, if you get hit, you've got to stay in cover for a couple seconds (this can be good or bad; you may like not having to search for a health box, or you might like the challenge or searching for one, it really doesn't matter to me)
Left out:
Exciting missions! These ones are hardly exciting; the original had unpredictable ones and tons of "cool stuff". The Russian Campaign, which you play first, is really good; the British one is boring, except for a couple of missions, and as for the American one. . .eh. . .Pointe Du Hoc is great, and Hill 400 is alright, but really, they're nothing compared to the original. In most of the British missions, you basically do nothing but clear houses and knock out machine-guns.
Oh, and one thing I really hated on the British tank missions is the language. I realize all war games have this and I usually don't mind, but when it comes to a tank crew member shouting "Son of a----" every time a German tank hits yours, I do mind.
So again, if you haven't played the regular Call of Duty, you might like this, but if you have. . .you'll probably be disappointed.
"A better version than the PC version.", I owned the pc version of this before I purchased the Mac version. The Mac version seems to be smoother and with less problems than the PC version. So, if your a Mac user, don't be afraid to purchase it! The simulation is great and very realistic. If your running surround sound, you will hear the sounds of gun fire off in the distance which adds to the realism of the game. Not only is this a great simulation, it also seems to be historically accurate. The weapons, uniforms, and artilery are very accurately recreated. I would definitely buy this again!
"Great great great", Great game. If you like first person shooters and like history then you have no choice but to buy this game. I do have a couple of quibbles though:
1. The game is too easy. There are four difficulty levels; if you play "Regular" this game is a cakewalk. Start with the second hardest and then play it again on its highest difficulty setting. 2. It's really nice that you're not running around picking up health packs, something I've always found completely asinine. Instead, if you are shot, you simply find some cover, stay out of the fight for a few seconds, and you'll recover. This is dumb. I guarantee if you are shot by an 8 mm Mauser round, ducking down in a trench for a couple secs ain't gonna make you feel any better. 3. I hate hate hate the compass in the lower left hand corner of the display. It shows the location of enemies, friendly soldiers and your current objective. If our soldiers had been equipped with such a device they would have been in Berlin before autumn 1944. I cover this thing with tape when I play.
But these are minor complaints so I only knocked off one star. This is easily the best FPS I have ever played. Love it.
"Call of Duty 2 Mac DVD", Great gameplay, great graphics, overall awesome game. Takes a good amount of time to beat on Veteran, and very replayable. I have a Macbook 13" white with Duo intel with intel graphics card and it handles the game perfectly, even though the chipset isnt supported (not nvidia or ati).
The only problem for me was the multiplayer component. Loading times were terrible and I could never find a good server without waiting for 20 minutes for the server to download the neccessary packages. dont really play multiplayer now because it so boring to wait
Everything else was good. If you like action and ducking behind oil barrels forever while the enemy surges all around you, this game is for you. Buy this game if you have a top Mac and you are playing around with Garageband and you are in need of some explosions

"Excellent game", Probably the best game I've played on the Mac - very immersive, and a lot of fun. Probably could be slightly improved if there were some puzzle solving, or secret elements, but nonetheless, a great game. I played it on a G5, and had to back off on a couple of graphics options to prevent it from slowing down when too much was going on. Bet this would be awesome on a quad Intel machine!
"Well done genre shooter", By far the best WWII shooter out there. But beyond that, it's an all-around good game.
"Duty rocks!", I can spend hours playing Call of Duty2 and never notice the time. It's mesmerizing, exciting and very deeply layered for evoking emotional responses. The graphics are excellent, the colors, the resolution, the breadth of the tale that unfolds in historically-researched battles, all are top notch! Great game!
"Very immersive, engaging, and re-playable! (version 1.3)", As an "old-school" game developer, this is only my second game in 20 years. While killing WW2 enemy soldiers isn't what I could call "fun," I *really* enjoyed this game. My stock GeForce 6600 and Quad G5 was mostly up to the task, though I couldn't use the full 1920 x 1200 resolution on my 23" LCD without the game bogging down. I backed off a bit on the graphic settings, and it ran fine, with the only slight problem being inside smoke. The first time through, on Easy, I did get stuck in a few places where I couldn't figure out where to find an object, or how to get to a street that required going through a house. The things I liked best were how smart the other squad members were; the immersive sense of "being there" on various missions; playing different characters (a Russian, a Brit, and a Yank) in different campaigns; working as a unit with one other soldier or many; the banter and camaraderie within the squad; the many different kinds of battles in freezing Russia, the Libyan desert, and of course the Normandy coast to name a few. There are a *lot* of weapons to choose from. I found the sniper rifles and the anti-aircraft gun the most interesting. The game doesn't natively support a USB controller on a Mac, but the key commands are simple enough that I prefer them now. I'm currently replaying the game in Regular difficulty, and enjoying it even more.
"CoD2 is the best FPS game on Mac!", Have had this game and now that it's been updated to 1.3 with punk buster it's the best fps game out for mac.
Pros: great graphics punk buster great multiplayer community great single player missions
Cons: only it took Aspyr a couple months to get the 1.3 ported but worth the wait.
Highly recommend this game!
