"Great design, solid execution, flexible - a great alternative tool." This is a gem of an input device if your expectations include programmable functionality across programs but you don't need an advanced graphics program controller. The NuLooq is a departure from much of the crap that's on the market that don't offer a leap over the flimsy keypads and wowie-zowie mice out there that are so early 2000s.. Instead, it's a flexible, alternate-hand device that actually DOES add functionality to your setup. Right out of the box, the heft of the unit distinguishes it from much of the other stuff. The key, though, is to invest the time to program it, and then to actually use it. It's great for keyboard shortcuts, and if you invest the time to uncover them for each of your most-used programs, you'll be happy you did. Tip: log your settings in a table or text file, as I did, which serves as both a user reference and a backup in case you lose your preference file. The programming interface (for Mac at least) is well-designed. I would buy this product again in a second.
"Does not work on Windows" This tool feels great in hand. You don't twirl the "collar," but simply apply rotational pressure. I'm sure this subtle movement would minmize chance for repetitive stress injury. I just wish it worked on Windows!
"Don't bother" This is worthless. Don't buy. Basically every function it performs is just as easily accessible in photoshop/illustrator.
"Nulooq and Photoshop CS3" I was more than pleased with the operation of this device with Photoshop CS2. I just upgraded my Photoshop to CS3. Now the Nulooq device no longer works. I called Logitech about the problem. I was informed that Nulooq does not work with Photoshop CS3. A fix is in the works with no expected delivery date. A there is not beta software at this time. If you are used to using the Nulooq with Photoshop, I recommended not upgrading to CS3 until Logitech has a fix.
"This thing is freakin' awesome!" I am a freelance editor in NYC and I love this thing!
I've always wanted jog and shuttle control for my Final Cut workstation, and now I have it! I also have pretty much any other control I want for any other application! The hardware comes with customization software that allows you to quickly and easily create software profiles for the NuLOOQ that automatically load whenever each program in question is active on your desktop!
It's easy to use, works exactly the way it's supposed to, and is quick and easy to set up and configure!
Also, anyone who thinks that they need the tooldial software to use this device or even to 'unlock the full potential' of this device understands neither tooldial nor the Navigator's configuration utility and can't be trusted to review it, let alone to be hired as a graphic designer or photo manipulation artist!
Buy it!

What our customer's say!
"discontinued", FYI, logitech has discontinued this product. They even pulled the drivers off the website. So - regarding some people's issues with usability with software packages (like having to continue to use CS2 while waiting for Nulooq to support CS3 for example) - if this product stops working with the next upgrade you will either have to 1.) not upgrade your software or 2.) stop using this device. So get this only if you plan on using compatible (old?) software for a while.
"Not for OSX Leopard users", The problem with this navigator is that Logitech abandoned support and updates for OSX 10.5. So it will still work for zooming in and out of applications and scrolling but there's no software to customize applications to interact with the navigator. I used it extensively for Photoshop in OSX 10.4 and it was very efficient to speedup my workflow. Too bad Logithech decided to strip this great tool of its functionality.
"NuLooq Not Bad", I needed to download newer software than came with the device because of a recent upgrade to OSX10.5. The device is either more limited than I thought it would be, or its real power remains hidden. I still can't get it to change my brush size in CS3, which is like the main thing it's touted as being able to do. It is, however, the BEST way to make one's way around Google Earth.
"Well...", I like the idea of this product, but it has no support for the most recent Adobe products that I wanted to use it for, and I've not developed a habit of using it. So it's just a nice light effect for my office.
"Get the 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator instead", I have a windows xp machine, and this nulooq was not that easy to set up on it. I had to unplug it and put it back in, because it kept scrolling downward. In photoshop CS2, it worked okay for panning and zooming. The brush adjustments for the touch-sensitive tool tuner at the top was not working. The little dialog would come up while in photoshop, that displays the brush size. It would change as I tune the dial, but the brush itself doesn't change. Also, the buttons along the top are very firm, not easy to push, and make a loud click sound when they engage.
I bought the 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator around the same time, but it didn't have Photoshop support, until now.
I recommend the latter product because has more functionality (more application support), whereas 8 months later, the NuLooq still hasn't released any additional support for 2nd and 3rd party applications. The 3D SpaceNavigator has CS2, CS3 support, as well as a windows picture viewer extension, an Acrobat extension, and along with support for many 3D apps. Plus it supports Macro programming, Nulooq doesn't.

"So far so good, minor quirks.", This is a nifty little device. Good heft and non-slip rubber bottom means it stays put. I got this device to make video editing easier, and it made it easier. Scrubbing the clip and pinpointing an exact frame is much easier than with a mouse using the touchwheel on the top. Installation (in XP) was a snap - popped in the CD, installed software, plugged the device into a USB port, restarted, and I was in business. Configuration software is ok, but would be nice to see more apps supported. I still use an older version of Premiere, so I had to configure functionality manually. Some things worked great, others not so great. Example: I tried to bind timeline zoom to backward/forward push of the grey wheel, but even though I set it to emulate a single keystroke, it would rapidly zoom me all the way in or out, instead of going one step per push. I ended up binding zoom to one of the top buttons. Maybe it'll work better when I upgrade to the latest Premiere which it claims to support natively. Overall, I am pleased with NuLOOQ, it REALLY helps with video, though I find it sitting unused in any apps other than Premiere and Photoshop, but then I've had it for only a few weeks. My wishes on the device? The top touchwheel is about perfect, very much like on an iPod, though would be nice if buttons responded to a lighter touch. Grey wheel, in my opinion, would be a FAR better value if it could actually rotate 360 instead of the 'twist' action. As it is now, it is far to easy to give it a 'push' when trying to 'twist' and vice versa. Replacing twist with smooth 360 rotation would allow for lighter, more responsive push action. The only device I can think of that offers more functionality at comparable price is ShuttlePro, but its look and feel just did not appeal to me the way NuLOOQ did. However, anyone shopping for a jog dial device should take a very good look at ShuttlePro as well.
"Great tool", This product was not the godsend that everyone made it out to be at first (the tool dial software has been discontinued because it was not what people expected and not nearly as efficient as it was initially made out to be), but it is a very handy tool that can really streamline your workflow and keep you from having to constantly switch from keyboard to mouse to pen to mouse to keyboard etc. I use it all the time with my graphics tablet and pen. Using the pen to do the editing and this to do the navigating (zooming in and out, scrolling around, changing brush size, navigating history states, etc), I can remain more focused on my work.
This is not a revolutionary way to work, but it does help to increase efficiency and speed up workflow.
If you are a Windows user you should be prepared to download the drivers from Logitech, since the last I heard it was still being shipped with Macintosh software only.
"Well designed piece of hardware", Im a windows user, web designer, i bought it because zooming and panning is most thing that wasts time while working in photoshop and other programs like After effects, i was excited that there is a solution for this problem, however when i received it, i was disappointment. because when i opened the box i found out that the toolDial software that comes with it, is for Mac only, and the Windows driver douse not come with it!! So i searched around and found the driver at the logitech site, after the installation, i was satisfied and happy, because i found out the the navigator can do much more than i expected, and can be configured to work with any program, because all the controls on it can be configured to trigger an action like a keyboard stroke or scroll the mouse wheel, for example in photoshop, i set the ring to zoom and pan the image, 2 buttons to go backward and forward through the history, one button for the brush, another for the eraser and touch tuner (the above layer on the controller reacts to by touch like the iPod) to increase or decrease the brush size. Its totally up to you to set it in any matter you need to any program, i even set up few configurations for several games!
I don't regret buying at all, however i think that the seller at amazon should declare more clearly that the tool dial is no longer available for windows, you can find more at logitech's site.
"Practical and Time Saver", I must admit, it took me a while getting use to it. But once I got the hang of NuLOOQ, it was an addiction. I use it regularly for MAYA and MODO and ofcourse Photoshop CS2. It also works very well with Google's SketchUp. I DO recommend this product.
"Good idea, poor implementation", I'm long time, serious amateur photographer and use Photoshop heavily as digital dark room. Besides this product I as well use Wacom tablet. Although I use Photoshop I never got too much into remembering keyboard short cuts and loved the offer that I can zoom in & out, scroll with my free hand. Change tools without without removing my eyes from the keyboard. NuLOOQ successfully does that but being a PC user it lacks the navigator screen available for Mac users. I just hope that they'll one day provide NuLOOQ Tooldial software for Windows platforms as well. The tools price is bit too much for what it offers for PCs but I do not regret that I made this investment.
