"Did what I needed. Seems like good build quality, a little expensive though"
I bought this because my computer's headphone jack is really strong, and my headphones are really sensitive, so I had the problem of having the volume on the lowest position just to have it at a comfortable level.

So I just plugged this in, and used the inline volume control to "dim" the volume to suitable levels, and turn up the volume on the computer. The sound is better too, because the volume level of 1 on my computer has a lot of internal noise.

A few things I noticed. One, the volume controls have almost no friction, so if you bump the slider, it will move pretty easily, so make sure the max volume isn't going to make you deaf before you use this in an environment where you might bump the headphones.

Second, this works like any passive volume control. It "dims" or attenuates the power level to make it quieter. If you want this to amplify your sound, it won't. Also the maximum attenuation is not going to mute the sound. It goes to about half the volume of the max (that fraction might be dependent on your headphones).

The reason I give it four stars is that it's a little expensive for a couple potentiometers, and some plastic. I know it couldn't have cost ten bucks to make this. More like $0.30. Oh well, that's what I get for not making it myself...

"Good, but...."
This product is great in concept- it fills a necessary niche with individual volume controls (a must when two people share the same source), and performs well....except that the plastic housing for the jack is VERY weak and doesn't give like most normal headphone jacks. I was using it in an airline seat and snapped the housing beyond repair when I brushed up against it. Good product, but be careful with it...

"Good product"
I don't know what Baltimore MW's problem is with this product. It met my expectations. It lets me plug two sets of ear plugs into my ipod. It is not too bulky, the volume control is a very nice feature, and I have not found it slide out of the plug. My wife and I plan to take it on a long plane ride and I believe it will let us listen to music in peace while letting me not have to listen to music at her volume (and she won't have to listen at my volume).

"Poor Design, Flimsy Connector, NOT Recomended"
Before i describe this product let me say my Sansa E280 uses a GRIFFIN Centerstage Case + GRIFFIN TuneBuds (which are litterly repackaged earthumps....sad i thought i was getting an upgraded EARTHUMPS but not the case so going with crappy GRIFFIN TECHNOLOGY i grabbed this seemingly painless piece to help save the jack built into my sansa...
Where should i start?? this is a simple headphone splitter, and its pretty much just a good cat toy....the connector is not only BULKY, Huge plastic piece before headphone jack, which made me happy seeing it online but in reality it only prevents this thing from recieving a complete connection to any device and forget about it if you use a GRIFFIN case of any kind IRONICLY the "SMART"Share doesnt get a complete connection through either the Vizor or Centerstage which baffles me since ANY other Headphones fit with NO TROUBLE and both are GRIFFIN PRODUCTS not to mention the thing doesn't "CLICK" in it just slides , EASILY "SLIDES" out also....Then theres the VOLUME CONTROL...yeah it CONTROLS ITSELF sliding all over in your pocket, maybe they could've been stiffer or a press to lock system hell for $15+ ?? also doesnt turn the device your using either Full Volume or total Mute i mean RadioShack sold me the Rplacement Splitter that worked flawlessly for $3.95....STAY AWAY GO TO RADIOSHACK !!!! this thing is gawdy JUNK

"Purefunk agrees"
The Griffin Smartshare Headphone Splitter is a great product. My wife and I can, and do, watch movies together on my IBM laptop without disturbing the rest of the family. The dual volume controls is a great feature allowing total enjoyment at personal volume levels.

What our customer's say!

"Good Price & Product", Good tool for my wife & I to share the MP3 & iPOD to hear music we both enjoy. Easy to use controls & gives each the level they want using separate head sets.

"Mostly Good", Great for keeping two kids from beating each other down. Sliders for volume control a little loose and can be moved easily, but good level control. Do not leave this plugged into a laptop and move around. The pin with bend out of the body fairly easy. It still works, but the pin is at an angle. This is my fault, but the mold around the pin could be stronger.

"Excellent", Works perfectly! My wife uses it to split her sansa mp3 player into two stereo lines...one for here and one for the baby!

"disappointed", I bought this item for use with my iphone but it does not fit so I am very disappointed

"Nice idea - good product", I use to split the audio output from my HDTV to my earphones or stereo speakers. The volume control feature is a bonus. No problems with them.

"Cool little product", I got this thing so I could split the audio out from my MacBook when watching DVDs. My viewing companion and I each plug in our headphones to each end of the split consoles, each get good crisp sound, and each get to control the volume that comes through the wire. Only complaint would be to maybe have the sound control bar a little longer/broader to effect a broader volume control. But it's a minor quibble with an affordable smart product that performs a simple task ably.

"Worked great until...", We bought this item for a family vacation. One of the kids has a video iPod and we wanted the kids to be able to both listen to the music during our car trip to Florida. The headphone splitter worked great, both kids were able to adjust the volume of the music independently, however the headphone splitter came apart soon after I gave it to them (within the first day). Keep in mind that I have two daughters and they were sitting right next to each other (I have a Honda Pilot, so it's not a HUGE space in the backseat). Both are pretty calm kids, so there was no roughhousing going on, I just think the weld was weak on the splitter.

"Saint Joseph, MI", The splitter was helpful because it also doubled up as volume control for the individual connections. However, the volume control button is not very effective as it provides only a small range of control. Sometimes, you end up using the control on the audio device itself.

"Cheap and Functional.", just as the title describes! I purchased this for a road trip that has yet to take place, but I test drove it the second I got it out of the package. It does what it is supposed to, doesn't do what it isn't supposed to, and cost under ten dollars. I am satisifed with my purchase.

"Good product", I've used this splitter with a portable DVD player, and have been satisfied. There's not much to be said about the product. It works. You can easily adjust the volume, even in the dark.

If you ever buy a splitter, make sure that you buy one with adjustable volume. No two people will want the volume adjusted exactly the same when using headphones!
