Others say...
"No No No No No Wrong!!!" All you five star people!! What are you thinking. I dont get it. Its plane and simple. Thes DO NOT sound as good as the EX71 buds. No No No I dont care what any of you say. This is the only review all you need to read. Buy the EX71 or 81. Bigger driver blaw blaw blaw. I have been using the EX71s for a year or so now. But wanted to splurge so i order these MDR90. Iv been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why my 71's sound so much better. All that tech jargon is worthless TRUST ME!! These MDR90's sound way muffled campared to the 71's. It seems like none of these reviewers have actually tried both models (71's vs 90's) I have!!!!!! with the same player ,same song. Go with the 71's 0r 80's. I hate getting riped off. My brand new MDR 90's are just ornaments now.
"Product/Seller Quality Review" Product arrived as described and shipping was very fast- it only took 2-3 days so your order will arrive way before the amazon expected delivery date.
Product works very well and met my expectations. The bass isn't as deep as my Headbanger Audio Earsubs, but it's great quality and delivers solid impact nonetheless. Frequency Range is phenomenal and i'd recommend these earbuds for anyone. Enjoy!
"Completely fell apart!" I just ordered these a month ago, and for a month enjoyed pretty decent sound and liked them a lot. The wire to the left bud is far shorter than the right, which I do not like (it's meant to wrap around your neck, but i don't like to do that), but other than that they seemed like very high quality. A week or so ago, though, one of the earbuds completely fell apart--I mean the top half came unglued and was dangling by the wire. Plastic pieces fell everywhere when I just tried to take it out of my ear gently. I thought this was a fluke, and set them aside in my bag and got a cheap pair at walmart in the meantime. Next time I picked them up to examine them, the other one fell apart! I have since glued them back together with superglue, and they still sound okay, but honestly . . . obviously the product is so cheaply manufactured that it can't even stay together. I shouldn't have to superglue my expensive headphones.
"Spectacular" I use earbuds with my Ipod and I have tried many different models from inexpensive to near top of the line -= this list includes Sony's MDREX71, Phillipp's SHE9500, Shure SE110, Creative , and Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pros. For the price, the Sony MDR90 is excellent and although the sound is not as perfect as the high end Ultimate Ear's unit, it's close enough and also much easier to use and more comfortable to wear.
The Sony's will be criticized by some bass addicts for lacking said bass and on first listen I felt the same way and was ready to return them. There was no boom or chunk to the bass but then I realized that I was hearing the instruments as they were supposed to be heard. The bass was there it just didn't boom - it sounded correct and was detailed and articulate.
I'm a musician and I realized then that the Sony's and the UE's made music sound like it did when I listened to it on my full stereo rig where I use Acoustic Research AR48B's.
The UE's have better sound (I still own them) but they are finicky as to fit and if you lay down on your side or compress the ear in any way, you lose sound on that side. Plus they are double the cost of the Sony's.
On the low cost side, the Phillipp's SHE9500 are excellent but for near audiophile sound at a sub $100 cost, the MDR90 is the very best choice.
"Sounds great" I bought this with the noise-cancellation earphones. The buds fit comfortably in my ears, and the sound was great. Very satisfied with the purchase.

What our customer's say!
"Good !", Everything was fine dispite of that the customer service sometimes didn't write back soon (maybe it was Christmas season and they were extremely busy).
"Like shoving hot pokers in your ears", I bought these after looking at several reviews. Most reviews are positive toward the sound quality. And I do agree with that, the sound quality is pretty decent. However, the comfort of these things is horrible. I kept thinking it was the tips that were bothering me and kept trying the different sizes. Also ordered comply tips. After much experimenting I was looking in the mirror at them (while in my ears) and realized it had nothing to do with the tips. It is the circular metal housing just behind the tip. Much too large. It presses against some of the other protruding parts of your ears. Within 5 minutes these things are becoming uncomfortable. Within a few songs I was ready to get these parasites out of my ears. Look elsewhere. Earbuds with driver housings that are narrow near where you insert them into your ears are a better choice.
"the best in the west", I think these earphones are very conferrable and sound great. I have two sets. thank you very much.
"Best pair of earbuds I have ever used...", I must say...I've never been so pleased with a pair of earbuds before. I am a self-professed bass junkie, so I REALLY like my bass. These earbuds have a frequency response of 5Hz-25kHz and if you didn't know most of the higher end AKA more expensive buds(Shures and Bose for example) don't even have frequency responses of that magnitude. With that kind of frequency response, you get deep rumbling lows (like a subwoofer) and clear, crisp highs and don't forget awesome mids. Some people complain about the asymmetrical cord design, but I really like it. It is meant to wrap behind your ear, so you can take the right one out if you need to hear something...like answering your phone without the cord pulling down on your other ear. If you are an active person and you can appreciate great bass (genres such as techno, hip-hop, and R&B) you will really like these headphones. With the price Amazon offers, how can you refuse?
"Great and Reliable Earphones, Better than E-Moda VIBE", I have used the MDR-EX85LP for over a year and unfortunately i had a small accident with it.. it was a great and reliable pair of earphones that endured a lot of trouble. So I was off to shop for a new earphone, i saw the E-moda Vibe and thought it might be an interesting experience, so i ordered it and tried it out, well, to make it simple, it kind of suck, it has a lot of hype around the product and people claim that it requires "some burn in time" for the headphones to work properly, well, used it for over a week (people claimed to manage to burn it overnight) and it still sounded shallow, with weak bases and a lot of treble.. So i returned the E-moda and decided to look for a sony again, and i saw the MDR-EX90LP which looked like a good upgrade from my MDR-EX85LP. Well guys, i'm glad to say this earphones did not disappoint me.. the sound is crisp and accurate.. and the material is a lot better than the plasticky Vibe. Don't get me wrong, he e-moda vibe is great and have a nice design, but it doesnt hold a candle to sony's quality.. the E-moda came with minor scratches, something i wouldnt expect from something NIB...
I guess this somes up my review, if you want something good, reliable and with a great sound, go for the MDR-EX90LP!

"Decent earphones but spend your money elsewhere", I have owned these EX90LPs for about 18 months now. They were purchased to replace my perpetually dying collection of lower-end Sony earphones (EX70LP/51LP/81LP).
The Good:
* Build quality. I am happy to report that these are of significantly better build material. Specifically, they haven't broke yet and the wire doesn't feel like it's about to fall apart like my other Sony earphones do. * Sound quality. Like others have reported, they sound great, significantly better than all of my previous Sonys. Good bass with those large drivers that surprisingly don't funnily stick out of your ear. Clear treble. * Look. They also look quite nice with a clean polished metal look. * Cord length. Good 4 feet, unlike the super short EX71SL (without extension). * Case. The earphones wrap up in a plastic holder that fits inside a nice (real?) leather case that has a button for a secure close.
Unfortunately these earphones have hardly seen the light of day in the past year because of a few key reasons. Good thing I had that case!
The Bad:
* No sound isolation. I guess it's true that you don't miss things until they are gone. The bus got a whole lot louder after "upgrading" to these. * Less comfortable than my old Sonys. That large driver is not padded at all. After an hour or so my ears get sore. Maybe it's the weird angle of the ear bud. Maybe it's just my ears. * Price. Much better earphones can be bought at a price not much higher. I ended up getting the Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro Earphones (White) for $150 when I had to spend some time working in a data center. I'm much happier with those as they are more comfortable, sound better, and block out the noise of industrial air conditioners and dozens of racks of equipment. I'm sure that there are other earphones in the same price range (or even cheaper) that are better products but I don't personally own any so I won't comment.
Bottom line:
These are the highest quality Sony earphones I have owned. But they are also the most expensive Sonys I bought. They suffer from flaws that make purchasing them a bad value. Sony's noise isolating earphones have made me a loyal Sony customer for the past 10 years but it's time to move on to better things.
"Great earphones with great price!", I received today these Sony MDR-EX90LP Stereo Earphones and I'm totally satisfied. At first listen I felt that I'm missing some bass but then I changed medium earbuds to small and they fitted perfectly to my ear canals and sound and isolation improved a lot. I think that the outside noises are blocked out enough - you don't have to compete with traffic or people talking next to you. Bass is deep and high-end is clear - overall I think that you really don't need better earphones to listen to mp3's. Now I just think that why on earth I listened to my ipod for two years with ipod's standard earphones which are crap. [...]$ is bargain for these earphones!
note: I've played drums over 15 years so my hearing may have damaged a bit so... don't count on my review too much.
"Excellent Performance", I purchased the Sony MDR-EX90LP Stereo Earphones a month ago and must say that I am totally satisfied with their performance. I use these with an Ipod Nano (2G). They produce crisp, clean highs and and powerful bass. They are also comfortable and stylish to wear. Try to avoid fake earphones from China that are sold at other sites for around $35. Amazon sells the real Sony product.
"Excellent Earbuds, worth the money you spent", I my opinion, Sony is the best headphone manufacture because all their products produce accurate and mellow sounds. This EX90LP are the best earbuds I've owned so far, only inferior in volume compared to those huge overhead headphones. I switched from Microsoft Zune 80 Premium earbuds to Sony EX90LP ,it takes a about a week for me to feel comfortable with them. The thing that is little bit anoying is if you don't find the perfect size for you, it won't seal your ears perfectly. Overall, these are the best earphones you can get for casual listening!
"Unique Design - Earphones without Isolation", The Sony MDR-EX90LPs are different from all other earphones out there - they don't isolate you from outside noise. For many people, this is a deal-breaker. But, if you want some ability to hear what is going on around you, the Sony MDR-EX90LPs are great. In addition, because there is little isolation, there is almost no "microphonic effect" (noise from the cord moving).
A more minor difference from other earphones is the fit. The Sony MDR-EX90LPs come with the same comfortable silicone tips that many other earphones use. This alone is usually enough to keep earphones from falling out. But, in this case, the large driver also sits in your outer ear much like a pair of earbud headphones. This makes them fit more securely than other silicone tip earphones, without sacrificing comfort.
Overall, the Sony MDR-EX90LPs are excellent earphones. Both the sound and build quality seem excellent; they are definitely worth the price. They are very efficient in terms of volume produced and have plenty of bass. If you need more bass, make use of their efficiency by EQing the mid and treble down and turning up the volume. (EQing up on mp3 players usually causes distortion.) Also, keep in mind that the cord is designed to run behind your neck; some people prefer a more standard "Y-shaped" cord.
Basically, if you aren't too concerned with isolation, the Sony MDR-EX90LPs are worthy of consideration due to their quality, secure fit, and lack of "microphonic effect". For activities where being conscious of your surroundings is important (e.g. running outdoors or working in an office), they are more than worthy - they should be your first choice among earphones.
