"A Passing Game"
Ever since I played Pharaoh and Cleopatra I have been addicted to city-building game and this game makes me smile. Despite some annoyances with rotation angles and the really small city maps (for the beginning missions)I enjoyed the new 3D look and if you have an awesome gaming computer, the shadows, lighting and passing day effects will look amazing.
Overall, I was not extremely hooked, but it's a game you can definitely play in passing.

"This is a really good city sim/strategy game"
I guess I've had it about a month. I read all the reviews before buying Caesar IV and was a bit worried about bugs and graphics requirements. I have a three year old Pentium 4 3.0 ghz processor with a half gig of RAM and a Geforce 7600 256 mb video card. The game runs fine on the factory default settings. I have not felt the need to look at or adjust them. The game great and plays perfectly. No crashes or video problems at all. I have not played online yet. I have played this game for hours without realizing how long it's been. It is thoroughly engrossing. I knocked it one star due to the time it takes to load up. Could be my machine though as my kids have put all kinds of online junk that may be slowing it down.

"Best than the rest!"
This game outshines the previous caesar III. You need a fast PC with a good video card in order to enjoy this game, The graphics is superb the gameplay is still preserved. Hail to tilted mill for doing a wonderful job on this game. This is a 100% leap for this kind of game genre

"It is easier to commit suicide then play this game"
I have basically the same problems as the last reviewer still stuck in one scenario. The advisors who are suppose to advise me to greatness does not advise anything. Before I updated my videodrivers the game use to crash whenever lightning struck the town. I wasted many of moons trying to fix it and when I did i was happy, but the prosperity level never rose when I did everything right, and sadly the citizens are basically pretty drones who complain mindlessly about nothing.

I expected better tactics when commanding the military like Caesar III but unfortunately the only thing you can do with the militia is to move them around and hope they fight well which is quite sad and pathetic. I wish I didn't break my Caesar III disc because I was in the last level and almost finished with the game.

"Better than what other people are saying."
First off let me say that if you are interested in this game keep in mind that the majority of reviews on this page are giving it poor reviews based on the game not being able to run properly on their outdated systems, with a newer system this game is fantastic and quickly and easily surpasses Caesar III!

This is not simply Caesar III with better graphics which is what many people seem to have been expecting. Gameplay wise it is a lot like Caesar III but it is more involved and requires the player to plan ahead, more so than Caesar III ever did. The game plays and looks beautiful. 5 stars all the way!!!

What our customer's say!

"No Subject", I wouldt recommend any sierra games because they are basically the same, you always have to fight to keep you city going and the graphics are lame.

"Maybe not for win vista!!!", Is a good game great graphics, but a little slow to play, the cursor moves slow and takes forever to get somewhere , tehe previous caesar III was faster. maybe because I' m playing it on wind vista, who knows

"Spiffy", Its fun, challenging, and if you have played the previous Casears, slightly different because its more in a 3-D mode. However, the game does take a lot of the computer's resources and runs a little slow, even on new machines. I have a state of the art computer and had to turn down the games settings.

"Once You Get It To Run, It's A Blast", I enjoy sim games a lot, and was a little scared off about this one due to so much news about crashes, incompatability, etc.

So, after installing it, I dialed all the settings down to the minimum resource consumption and away we went! The mouse lags, etc., are still present but are not anywhere near as bothersome.

It is a great game for systems thinking and leadership development. Along the way, you actually learn a little about Roman culture, beliefs and priorities. Even dialed down, the graphics are very watchable.

I must confess that I have not made it all the way to the end yet. I have "enjoyed the journey" a lot, though.

"Exciting graphics don't make for more engaging play", Although I've been a fan of Caesar III for over 3 years, I have not found Caesar IV to be as engaging. City-building is spectacular in the new graphic environment; however, inadequate messaging and information about how to improve prosperity is as frustrating as in version III. The user interface is not particularly intuitive, and maneuvering troops does not work as easily as in the predecessors to Caesar IV. If a new version is on the horizon, perhaps improvement to ease of use could make meeting the challenges of the Emperor more fun rather than more frustrating.

"Pretty Good", I'm a fan of building historical civilizations and this one is my favorite. The other one is Children of the Nile.
The graphics are very nice and the interface isn't bad as well. The tutorials are very informative as well as the manual. The scenarios are nicely detailed and get harder as you go through them. I like the zooming levels and the fact that you can rotate the camera 360 degrees. The path finding of your citizens is surprisingly good and watching them go about their daily lives is a pretty good expierence. I've had this game since it was released and it's never crashed on me. It's a nice historical city builder.

"rome wasnt built in day", after having played Caesar 2 & 3, this game was a delight. the full 3d rendering of a roman city is done marvelously. with 360 degree camera turning and changing weather conditions, this game looks wonderful.

"Disappointed Caesar 3 addict", I have read all the other reviews of people having difficulty to run the game, but bought it anyway. I am such a Caesar 3 addict, that I had to have this, even if it is buggy.
So I got it and started playing, and it looked great. Then it started crashing. I got the patch, which refused to install, giving me a message I'm running the wrong version of the game. Got the other patch, but it is doing the same.
Last night, after less than a week since I got Caesar 4, I uninstalled it, very very disappointed indeed.

Don't do it to yourself.

"A Disappointment", First I'll tell you what I liked. Yes, I did have to lower the graphics' settings even though I bought a new computer(and a good one at that) a month after buying the game. Their graphics were still good, and the scenery was more realistic. I like the way the services work. No more having to remember what direction someone walks after leaving a building so that you can guarantee coverage. It's much easier to work the markets and distribute coverage of different services.

I also like how you can designate what class of people would live in each area from the start. It would drive me crazy in caesar 3 how once wine was introduced, everything became a villa, and everyone stopped working. You don't have these issues anymore and therefore, labor is so much easier to work. I also like the greater variety of goods available in this game.

Now for what killed this game for me. I tend to choose the military cities; more fun coordinating a battle. The battle segments of this game are just awful! No other way to put it. They take forever to get to where you want them, and getting them set up is a major pain. When all is finally taken care of, it looks so completely fake. The battle graphics took a major leap backwards. I would have rather they made all the changes I discussed above, and left the military alone. Since battle is what makes or breaks a game for me, I only gave it 2 stars. Oh yeah, it crashes a lot on me too!

"Don't understand all the negative comments", I guess I'd be frustrated too if the game didn't run on my computer, but I've had no problems on my laptop (1.8 GHz, 1GB RAM)after toning down some of the graphic options, which still leave a reasonably stunning picture of my cities.

As for the gameplay, what did people want? I was a huge fan of Caesar 3 when it came out, and then loved Pharaoh even more. This game plays true to the genre. Yeah, they could've tweaked the interface a bit more, like putting prices on the ports when selected, but if that's your biggest beef with the game, I'd judge you as being a bit too picky. There are very few perfect games out there, and if you like Roman city building, you'll have fun with this one, too.
