"Works very well for me", I usually don't write reviews, but so many people seemed dissatisfied that I thought I would share my experience with adobe audition. Let me first state that I am not a professional (or even a good) musician. I have spent some time reading about and experimenting with several DAWs, however, and I have really enjoyed adobe audition 2.

I haven't had any of the system troubles of other people. I run a moderately powerful (2.4 ghz dualcore, 4 gb of ram) system so maybe that is why. I also do not use a ton of VSTs, but the few that I do use (guitar rig 2 being the main one) work fine, including in preview mode. I also have been happy with my ability to rewire adobe audition to Fruity Loops 7 to be able to play my edited loops along with my recording and manipulate both in real-time. The wave-form editor is very powerful and spectral display is nice. The ability to add many automations to a track at once is nice and very simple, and I found the layout fairly easy to use. The standard included effects and processing tools(pitch shifting, auto tuning, multiband compression, parametric eq, noise reduction, reverb, delay, etc) are ok, but I assume serious musicians probably would want to replace some of them with VSTs that sound better or are more complex. You can also integrate this with adobe's suite of programs using bridge (For example, I used audition to make the make the audio for a friend's dental school project video and then was able to bridge it into adobe premier for video editing, and bridge in still photos from photoshop). I found it easy to record multiple tracks at once into audition with no latency issues (I have a creative platinum fatal1ty soundcard, decent but far from the best).

Finally, when I searched for professional and website reviews they seemed mostly positive, so it may be that amazon reviews are not indicative of most people's experience with the program. Anyway, I am not trying to contradict other reviewers, it may be that audition does not integrate with a lot of VSTs, and maybe on most systems it is buggy. I also use a lot of adobe programs (my work uses almost all adobe software and I have grown to like it), so I may be biased. There is also a steep learning curve with this (and probably most other) DAW, so if you don't take the time to really figure the workstation out it is probably easy to write the program off. For me, however, I find it to be a powerful tool and it might be worth getting the demo to check out if it is right for your system and your needs.

"New Looking interface", I have been a end user of v1.0 since it's creation. Ver 2.0 offers new features that are an improvement to some extent. Major drawback is you can only register versions 2.0 & 3.0 to ONE user/computer at a time. I use a laptop at the gigs to record the project and would transfer info & tracks to my home computer for completion. NOT anymore using v2.0 & v3.0. Using 2 different versions is a pain as they are DOWNWARD compatible ONLY. A call to Adobe for help didn't solve the 1 user/computer problem but got me v3.0 UPGRADE for the cost of shipping only ($4.95) Not a bad deal but the same problem still exists. I rate v2.0 and v3.0 as a solid 8 out of 10 for nice features but it's hard to teach old dogs new tricks! :)

"A MAJOR "Ooops" for Adobe", I was a Cool Edit Pro user before Adobe bought the parent company. Than Adobe 'upgraded' Cool Edit Pro to Adobe Audition 1.5. There wasn't much difference between Cool Edit - and Audition 1.5 - and both rock solid to work with.

Unfortunately, Adobe decided a major overhaul was 'needed' ... for who knows what reason. (?) ... and alas this fiasco called "Adobe Audition 2." I could handle 'ugly' if it worked - but as the other posts have said, it's buggy ... and flakey software now. From the Adobe forums, it was clear that even the beta testers told Adobe it wasn't ready for release at the time they did it. BUT ... ? it would appear that Adobe thought 'looks' was more important than 'works.'

Adobe's new announcemnt recently about 'Audition 3' will hopefully be their 'saving grace.' BUT Adobe has lost a lot of respect - even among the loyal followers - and if Audition 3 is as unstable as version 2 ... you can be sure that Adobe will completely destroy their audio fan base that loved them.

(The only reason I gave it a "1 Star" is because Amazon won't let you give no rating. But if you've got the bucks, even if you have to wait a save a little more to get a good audio program - it would be well worth it to stay away from Adobe until (or if) they get their act together with 'Audition.'

(But for GOD SAKE - don't by from the other HACK here on Amazon that's advertising $750.00 for Audition 1.5 - for that kind of money you can find a reliable software program that will handle your audio with getting taken to the cleaners like that.)

"Stick with 1.5", I suppose you could blame this on my system/drivers, but when Audition 1.5 fires up and works every time, and Audition 2.0 will freeze my machine after closing it, I guess I tend to go with 1.5.

So it may work fine for you. I have several audio interfaces, and a TON of VST's, which are probably part of Audition's problem.

The audio hardware configuration is confusing in Audition 2.0 and seems a little flaky, for instance, 2.0 won't recognize my Samson CO1U USB mic although 1.5 did. The hardware configuration UI in 1.5 is more like the hardware config UI in Sonar and Reason and Live.



"Good Program But Over Priced", Like the title says, Was a good program when it was Cool Edit Pro and NOW? well still just a good program and Alot over priced. I would think it would be better priced around $99 to $139 range. Been using Cool edit for years and needed this for my laptop.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"WINDOWS XP ONLY", I wanted to make sure people who look at this product have a full understanding that Adobe Audition 2.0 WILL NOT install on a Windows 2000 Pro or Server operating system. Almost EVERY reference I have seen regarding OS requirements say Windows but not specifically Windows XP. The only exceptions have been on the Audition box itself and this Amazon listing (go Amazon). So if you are a Windows 2000 user understand that you will need XP for this product. If you can find a copy of Audition 1.5 you're good to go.

I would say more about the product if I could actually get it installed but with the 12 PCs I use not a one has XP so I have a $300+ book end until I can upgrade (if you can call it that) to XP.

"The Single Greatest Software for EVP Editing", I think that any paranormal investigators that deal with EVP's (Electronic Voice Phenomenon" can agree that this is probably the most important program that you can own. This is used to apply noise reduction, loop, slow-down, normalize, etc. when editing an EVP. Adobe if you are reading this review please oh god please someday release this product for the Mac. A great and certainly very powerful program!

"Adobe Jumps the Shark", Adobe Audition is my favorite program. I use it more than any other program I have on my computer. I have used it to restore thousands of old phonograph discs. I am only giving them one star because I can't give them no stars for this joke.

I knew this was going to happen. I had been using Cool Edit Pro for a long time when Adobe bought it and I knew that they were going to turn it into an Adobe product and screw it all up. I am very fortunate that I went to Adobes web site and downloaded the free trail version. I would have been really upset if I had actually paid money for this dog.

Lets start with the boot up time. I own a 2 year old average laptop and Audition 1.5 used to boot in about 2 seconds. 2.0 takes 20 seconds. That is almost as long as Photoshop or Premiere Pro.

Next we have the user interface. They destroyed it. And the old one worked so well. Adobe is really hung up about making absolutely everything a "Palette" and so now every little thing is a palette, allowing you to resize and relocate them to your hearts desire. But after about a half an hour of trying I'll be darned if I could not make the 2.0 interface remotely resemble the 1.5 interface.

The shortcuts buttons have been removed (wow that makes a lot of sense), however you can get it back if you look long enough for the place to do it. (Don't bother to right-click anything, in their imperial wisdom right-clicking is now pretty useless.) But if you do put the shortcuts back up they are now all black and white and it is really difficult to find the one you want. In place of the shortcuts they added some icons that I have yet to figure out or to need. What are they thinking????

A lot of the presets have been reconfigured and trying to figure them out gave me a headache.

After several hours of playing with this pile of garbage I decided to uninstall it and return to using 1.5.


"Overpriced, buggy piece of crap. Audition 1.5 was better.", If, like myself, you have many DX and VST plug-ins installed on your system, then Audition 2.0 is definitely NOT the choice with you. Somehow, the idiots who made this junk have made it completely incompatible with 3rd-party plugs such as Waves Diamond Bundle. Oddly enough, this was not a problem in earlier editions of Audition, or its former incarnation, CoolEdit. But now, Audition crashes irrevocably when trying to use many VST and DX plugs (except, of course, the ones made by Adobe themselves.)

Bottom line? This software is crap. Absolute crap. If you're serious about audio production, go with Wavelab. Heck, even free multitrack audio software like Kristal works better than this.

If, for some reason, you absolutely need Audition, then go with an earlier, more stable version, such as 1.5.

2.0 is about as useful as a football bat.
