"A Complete 3D modeling/animation program for under $1,000", Carrara 5 Pro really is a great program. There are LOTS of features, it's easy and fun to use. Whether you're a novice or professional, you can produce still images and QuickTime movies in just about any category (product design, a model for sculpting, greeting cards, Desktop picture, make your own adventure games, etc.). You can even visit the NASA web site, download a top-down image of Mars, import it into Carrara and have it apply this image to a "Terrain" object. This will produce a 3D model of that grayscale image. Now you'll be able to move your Carrara camera through this alien landscape and see what it would be like to actually stand on Mars! You can also animate the camera to fly over your Martian terrain and create a QuickTime movie.

Over 900 ready-made models are included, which you can always modify, and you can create just about anything you can image.
